    Hi Kat, welcome to Ireland! As a resident of Northern Ireland I can confirm that it is also very ‘dog friendly’. Wishing you all the very best on your Irish travels. 😀👍☘️❤️

    We spent a week in Ireland in January sailed from Cairnryan to Larne and back again the dogs have to stay in the van but it only a 2 hour crossing. We didn’t need any documents for the dogs or vacations. Probably because we got the ferry to Northern Ireland still in the uk. We found Ireland very dog friendly they especially loved my Jack Russell.

    Welcome to Ireland 🇮🇪 ☘️
    Lots of dog-friendly restaurants in Howth, County Dublin (A fishing village, 20 mins drive North of Dublin City centre). One restaurant is the ‘Dog-House’ next to the DART (train) station in Howth. Also King Sitric & O’Connell’s pub are welcoming to dogs. They’re situated 10 mins walk from the DART station & are next to the East Pier.
    Enjoy and welcome.

    Awesome! I'm going to Ireland in October with my dog, but was a bit concerned about the dog-friendliness. We'll be doing lots of outdoor activities as well, but you never know. This was nice to hear.

    See the link for more accurate info. No paperwork required going from GB direct to NI. eg Cairnryan to Larne or Belfast.

    Loving your vlog. We are lucky that the Common Travel Area agreement still exists between the UK and Ireland. This predates the EU membership and is still honoured by both sides. It means the time restrictions etc. do not apply. You can work and/or study in both place without restriction.

    Last July we travelled from Cairnryan to Belfast and didn't need anything then Rosslare to Fishguard and again didn't need anything. We now have a Spanish passport so all good, but we must have been lucky crossing to Irekand last year.

    Excellent video and beautiful dog. May I suggest travellers to France get the best tick treatment they can buy. Disease (babesiosis) carrying ticks are rampant in parts of France. Our 9 month old spaniel died in France in January this year after a tick bite, even after a very early diagnosis, it’s deadly. Brittany Ferries dog cabins are excellent 👍

      Hi. I just booked it on the ferry website. I think you’d be lucky to get one now for August- perhaps that’s why you can’t see the option. They sell out quickly!

      You can thank brexit. It’s just the same regulations the U.K. had for pets coming from outside the EU until a few years ago. Seems the British were quite happy to do the checks to others but are unhappy when they get checked themselves.

    Although southern Ireland is indeed a republic, it’s correct and official constitutional name is Ireland or Éire. Republic of Ireland is the name of the Irish football team to distinguish it from the Northern Ireland team. This arose out of a disagreement in the 1950s when both teams wanted to be called Ireland, which would not have been possible. This historical sporting factoid has caused confusion among many leading to people often referring to the country name incorrectly.

    • @creekyknee
      @creekyknee Год назад

      Southern Ireland is not a country, its an area of Ireland down south. Eire is a term used by dumb un-educated Americans who think they are Irish. The country officially known as the Republic of Ireland is called Ireland. Northern Ireland is a part of Ireland annexed by Britain hundreds of years ago. Easy peasy.

    I didn't think dogs needed any other vacines, except rabis, for any travel in Europe? You mentioned puppy vaccines but these aren't compulsory in general life? Thanks

    • @WanderingBird
      @WanderingBird  Год назад

      You’re right- they don’t need these for Europe, but I highly recommend you get them. My point was you can’t usually have the rabies within a certain time frame of the puppy vaccines- so be sure to allow enough time before your trip.

    If there are sheep and lambs around keep him on the lead... The Burren in Clare is commonage so there will be cattle, sheep and goats roaming about.

      Oh yes. He’s always on a lead near livestock… although he has passed several sheep and had no clue what to do with them. I was at the Burren yesterday 🙃

    Very useful video, as like you I'm a solo traveller with a little Cocker Spaniel 🐶 and am contemplating an Ireland trip. One thing I've heard is that while you're in Ireland it's possible to get an Irish EU pet passport which would then make trips to mainland Europe easier. Do you know if this is right or just another internet myth?

    • @WanderingBird

      Yup, if the dog is Uk registered. Your passports have nothing to do with it.

  • @xhogun8578

    Probably wouldn't want to go with a "restricted breed" as they have to be kept on a lead at all times when in public. Lead needs to be no longer than 2m and the dog has to be muzzled.
    Restricted breeds includes GSDs, Staffies and Rotties. Also any crossbreeds from the list of restricted dogs is included in this.

    • @xhogun8578
      @xhogun8578 Год назад

      Restricted dog breeds in Ireland
      American Pit Bull Terrier
      English Bull Terrier
      Staffordshire Bull Terrier
      Bull Mastiff
      Dobermann Pinscher
      Rottweiler
      German Shepherd (Alsatian)
      Rhodesian Ridgeback
      Japanese Akita
      Japanese Tosa
      Ban dog - a so called ban-dog is a cross of any of the above breeds mentioned or any strain of the above dogs listed.

    Thanks Kat for putting the effort into explaining this. I got 3 dogs to take if I go........... that gets awfully expensive for something that hasnt mattered until brexit . We always had our dogs up to date with chips and annual boosters etc. If people dont go , Ireland looses out on tourism and the ferry operators loose. I am guessing I would need an extra £600 to travel to ireland. Ridiculous considering the times we are living in............ Perhaps I should put them in a rubber dingy and they will be taken care of on arrival along the north coast. Only joking folks. Simple answer I wont go .

    • @Dreyno
      @Dreyno Год назад

      Yes. But only because the U.K. left the EU. Ireland hasn’t imposed anything new on the U.K. that isn’t the same for any other country outside the EU. The exact same regulations the U.K. had on pets coming from outside the EU until a few years ago.

    From 01 May, you won’t be able to let him loose on the beach. Some places may not let him on the beach.
    People should be careful of letting dogs off lead, because there are livestock everywhere. But most places, either country pubs, or tourist places, will be fairly relaxed about dogs. Just be sure your dog is, too.
    Ours loved the beaches in Donegal, Sligo, Mayo, but especially Sligo. We have found that if there’s nothing by a beach but a place to park, it will be great for walking the dog. If there are loos or a kiosk, they attract people, so not as good, though you can occasionally find a bin.
