      looking at the suspension they probably dissected one and measured it with good suspension bushings to gather its kinematics to base their platform on

      @@daviddetweiler7658 Nah, the lead engineer that left Tesla to make these things, Peter Rawlinson, was formerly Chief Engineer at Lotus, and Principle Engineer at Jaguar. He doesnt need to copy anyones homework.

    For those of us who live in a mild to warm climate, the RWD versions of EVs are a lot more appealing. They're substantially cheaper, lighter and have much better efficiency. You also typically get smaller wheels with fatter tires which makes it more practical if your town's pavement is garbage, which is usually the case. Perhaps the only efficiency disadvantage is you probably can't regen quite as aggressively as you're relying on the rear wheels only to slow the vehicle down. In every other respect this drivetrain configuration is more sensible for a lot of people in North America.

      Completely agree. I live down in South Florida and EVs of all stripes are a surprisingly common sight on the road. No snow, no slush, no road salt, no demand for AWD unless you’re going off-road, and no winter range hit, either. Definitely makes it a much more compelling proposition when compared against the use case for up north and the Midwest.

      I’ve driven RWD cars through Montreal winters with no issues. You just need decent snow tires and you’re fine.

      Agree on all except the efficiency. Counterintuitive to what we know about gas car added weight and parasitic drag, but another motor means double the ability to gain regen on deceleration. The motors reverse polarity and go from motor to generator, and another axle adds more regen.

      1st: test drives don't lie. 2nd: Sure bankruptcy risk's a concern. However, bankruptcy is often not the end of business for an at risk company. That's why it's called a Chapter 11 reorganization.

      @lalalal8111 Virtually everyone who reviwed it's called at one of the best sedans they've ever driven. The company may will fold. Dusenberg folded, but it made arguably the best cars in the world while it was making them.
      Being a successful business and making an excellent product are not the same things, and sometimes work at cross purposes. It needs to be just good enough and profitable to be successful. But it won't be one of the best of its kind.

    I got a chance this past weekend to stop by the Oak Brook dealership after the Chicago Auto Show. What I appreciated was, how everyone I met seemed very passionate about the brand and they didn't feel the need to try to sell me on the Air, because it speaks for itself in many ways. It's quiet, sleek, and has more than enough speed and comfort for anyone. If the market wasn't the way it is now with electric cars and every other problem associated with EVs didn't exist, I'd absolutely lease the Air.
    Side note: At least 3 of the reps, including myself, spoke about your review of the Sapphire. It was a fantastic review.

    FWIW, I sold my original owner, 20 year old manual E39 for a Pure AWD last Aug. As much fun as I was still having in the E39, I'm having more in the Pure.

    I got my early Air GT almost 2 years ago and still love it, but still regularly get the parking lot question "Nice car. What is it?" Lucid's biggest issue today is simply letting the world know that they exist and are within reach of most premium car buyers. I am thrilled to hear that the Pure RWD handles as well as I expected. I would almost consider trading down to one, but the big power and big battery in the GT are an addictive combination.

That "Lost" money has been building out a 3.8 million square foot factory in Arizona, an assembly plant in Saudi, along with showrooms and service centers on three continents. AZ factory just opened this month and SUV production starts this year. Building a global brand is expensive but Lucid has deep pockets funding it.

      The passion is a passion for reality over fan-boy bullshit. I argue with tesla fanboys over Elons bullshit as well, Optimus being a good example. Im banned from commenting on several Tesla youtube sites, because they hate facts just like you seem to.
      Lucid are in trouble, its obvious, yet the fanboys refuse to admit it. They make a product that nobody wants that is too expensive to build. They admit it themselves at every earnings call but simply say "it'll be better next year". Then it isnt.
      The Gravity does look good if they survive long enough and can get their production costs down.
      Well done simply ignoring the numbers by the way. They are irrefutable. Pizza shops make 5x more revenue per employee than Lucid.

    Lucid is so underrated it's insane right now... for such a small company, the engineering they are doing is crazy. Wish I had the money to buy one so I can support what they're doing.

      Great tech and such but they are far too focused on a certain market, they would do better as a company if they also offered more affordable versions alongside the luxury ones they offer. Not sure how long they can sustain their current business model, it is not like they sell thousands of cars a year which is a shame i want to see the brand expand. Just my opinion of course plus as a stock owner i want their shares to be much higher... lol.

      They made big investments the last years to lay out the infastructure of the business.
      The number will come down significantly the comming quarters and then the we will know the actual margin of each car

    I can honestly say that I never envisioned a world in which I'd CONSIDER owning an ev until Lucid starting producing vehicles, and, in my opinion, that's an accomplishment. What other brand can say they've made a product that has inspired many petrol heads to open up to POTENTIALLY owning an ev in the future. This car is intriguing independent of the fact that it's e-powered. That's pretty cool.

SG has superb production and provides detailed facts, and fantastic insight. Scotty is not only the king of clickbait, but he is often contradicting himself and even worse constantly spewing BS and misinformation. Heck he can't even hold the camera straight.       You should drive one. Turn on the fairy lights for engine noise and you're not far off. It's so quiet, spacious and relaxing... until the driver goes mad and turns the car loose. They're ridiculously fun to drive. It's probably what WW2 prop pilots felt when the flew their first jet airplane.

    This company NEEDS to survive and make a ton more cars. I'm rooting for them constantly and excited to see them entering a lower price bracket ... my hope is that the Gravity, and whatever smaller EV they can come out with in the future, will cement their place in the EV industry.

    I test drove a grand touring at the Torrance delivery center a few weeks ago. Car was awesome. I was very surprised the sales guy never asked me about buying/leasing/financing the car and I actually appreciated that haha. He just focused on how he thought lucid tries to separate themselves from something like the eqs.

      They actually aren’t allowed to discuss pricing at all. Direct to consumer business model :) I took a GT test drive at the Americana Manhasset location and as someone in the industry I probed a bit about what it is they do. They’re essentially product specialists, not salesmen. They are legally obligated not to discuss pricing nor do they have the capability to sell you a car on the spot.

      I wonder if the love for SUVs will change a bit in the EV market? Range is obviously one of the most important concerns for buyers, and it's easier to get good range with a sedan than with a SUV.

      ​@@morstyrannis1951hard to say. I know here in Canada the rise of SUVs have allowed municipalities to back off on snow plowing and road maintenance in general. I am not an SUV fan but do have one right now just to deal with the road conditions and pickup kids and etc. I essentially cannot drive my m2c for 4 to 5 months out of the year. Not reliably at least.

    Charging infrastructure is #1 & cost #2 reason I’m not sold on EV yet. Love what Lucid is doing. I hope their business is sustainable.

      Once everyone's on Tesla's network, and we're months away from that at this point, charging will be solved. Having done roadtrips in EVs a couple times, their network is head and shoulders above everyone else's.

      @@TheSteinbitt it’s not terrific charging infrastructure. I live in the mid Atlantic region between two major cities. The nearest Tesla supercharger is 17 miles away. I pass at least 15 gas stations in that 17 miles.
      EV’s are great if you charge at home.

    After watching the Air Pure v BMW i5 video, I have a completely new perspective on this car and the brand. I recently got hired by BMW and their cars feel really really good, more like a car that happens to be electric than a Tesla which feels like a giant RC car. Licid's approach is truly reminiscent of the days old olde where the German giants had unlimited R&D budgets and everything was engineering-first.
    When Gravity launches, it has some huge shoes to fill, as most brands have abandoned that longer, more utility style for the lifted off-road look for ""compact"" SUVs that are larger than full-size SUVs of the early 2000's.
    It truly is astonishing to see a car that's hard for SavageGeese to fault, with the only criticisms being due to the times... Super impressed and I hope to see more of Lucid on the channel.

    I have owned a Lucid Air Pure 4WD for a year and I absolutely love driving it - it can hold up to 4 tall adults comfortably, has a ton of cargo space, and is truly a fun family car.
    The service when needed is convenient and reliable!
    This is most detailed and informative Lucid video that has been made!

    After 2 years of leasing a Polestar 2 and watching posters with no EV ownership experience who slam EVs, I'm here to say that livability with an EV really depends upon your use case. For me, it has been fun and effortless. I don't usually drive more than 35-45 miles per day and I leave home every morning with a full "tank". My average electric cost is less than $45 per month for 1250 miles. Road tripping is less convenient for sure, but definitely possible if you have a bit more time and good onboard route planning software. We do have an ICE powered SUV for rare cross-country trips, but most people who haven't tried an EV might be surprised how useable it is for daily commuting, etc. EV's may never fully supplant ICE and hybrid vehicles, but they will be a permanent part of the mix.

      Out of Spec Guide just did a video on one of their staff that has less than 1 year old Polestar and it's lost more than half its resale value. Most EVs are suffering great resale value losses. I dont understand how we can be happy with $45 per month of electricity for 1250 miles when the vehicle has lost $25'000 in value in under a year.

      @@jeffgendron1959 The government is giving massive subsidies to NEW EVs that don't apply to used purchases. That automatically reduces their value quite significantly. When you buy those cars you're immediately getting a significant chunk of that lopped off in tax credits.
      That's not the only problem, of course - EVs are very likely going to have much better range in 5 years making buying one right now a fool's errand. The charging networks also just absolutely suck right now outside Tesla's, but buying a Tesla is dumb too because you're paying for a poorly-put together pile of garbage.
      2030 I suspect EVs are going to be a lot more reliable, the kinks worked out, and hopefully some actually reliable charging infrastructure figured out.

    Wow 410 miles of range. If it can actually hit that, this is pretty great. Granted, it's still very expensive, but it's so much more like a normal understated luxury car. All that lost weight must make it feel so much nicer to drive. I really hope Lucid succeeds.

      Ah yeah the cold kills it. Plus if it doesn't usually want to charge to 100% like a lot of cars, I guess 300 miles should be more expected. Still, I feel like this car is going the right direction overall for a premium EV.

    This to me is the spiritual successor to the Jaguar XJ as an EV. Heavy but sporty, cushy but not too isolated, even some of the design cues like the sweeping dash and C pillar.

      I'd like to see Lucid license their tech to more companies, like Aston Martin has. It's top tier, and could help them in the short term until they can sell more cars. But, it's still hard to say if they will retain financing enough to survive the next few years

    Having an at home charger is the biggest advantage of EVs. That is where most of the savings come from over gasoline. At a DC fast charger you are gonna be paying an obnoxious markup for the same electricity you can use at home for 10-20¢/Kwh depending on where you live. A level 2 charger at home will cover 80-90 percent of daily trips.
    There are still pretty major issues the non-Tesla fast charger networks but sometimes I think the DC fast charging issues sucks up all the oxygen and obscures the real advantages of home charging.

      Mood. Home charging is a significant benefit, not a downside. ICE heads are pretty desperate to hype up gas stations, but it's just silly when you probably stop at a charging station for less than 10% of your charging needs. I think last I heard it was closer to 6-7% of total charging is charging stations?

      I think that is the best use case - have a driveway or garage to park in. Even at 120v charging it's doing it for all the hours you are home. How far it can go on one charge isn't really an issue if you have that capability.
      In cities, I'm guessing that building garages will adapt and offer some charging in place (obviously not for all spots but maybe even 120v for spaces you pay more for?). Near my house they have three housing developments going up. Hundreds are townhomes without garages. That situation.. I think it will be a while before we see at home charging for most of those people. I think the less dense mostly single family homes will be where EVs thrive. It will be a little while before townhome communities start putting in ways to charge in your assigned parking (obviously with an increase in cost and home value/rent). It will be interesting to watch it evolve :)
      Me, I like my neighbors farther away from my door than I can throw a stone so I'll always have at least a driveway ;D

    You said that it doesn't include the heat pump that the Saffire gets. Do you mean it doesn't get a heat pump at all? Does this apply to the Air Pure AWD as well? At what trim level does a heat pump come standard?

    You guys need to drive the 2024 touring. It's the dual motor with a marginally larger battery so not much heavier but more power. It's the Goldilocks trim and is the one that everyone has skipped over in tests and reviews. We own a touring and spent about a month in the Grand touring. The touring is marginally slower in a straight line but drives like a 3 series vs the GT 5 series. Both fight for traction up to about 40 mph and then accelerate from there with what seems like increasing G-Force to above 100. It's weird

      You cant tell me this is a good car if it has worse finishing than a BMW i5, a car that is universally not praised for exactly that.
      Thinking of it, this car is in a weird spot. It does not drive like a German and also does not have the overall quality of a German.
      On the other side, it does not have the tech a Tesla does (that includes the charging network).
      It is very efficient (as long as it is not to cold) and seems to offer a lot of room.
      You also don't get any tax credit.
      Its a tough sell.

    It may seem like such a small thing to talk about efficiency at around 80mph but that is such a huge deal. At least where I live, the average flow of traffic on the freeway in the left lanes is around 80mph. So having a first hand account of what at does to your range is super valuable! One of the many reasons why this channel is one of the very best in the auto journalism space. Great review!

      Funny, I'm just the opposite. But I can't stand a glass roof that doesn't open. I actually use my sunroof, and especially during this time of the year -- fresh air without the side window buffeting.

      Ha, it's an absolute requirement for me. Especailly as more and more cars have sloped roofs and high shoulders that make interiors feel like a prison. I need the sunlight and airiness

      yeah I have a sunroof that I never open and I prefer to keep the shade shut even. In hindsight I really have no reason to ever consider having a sun/moon roof let alone a glass roof.

      The extra headroom and quietness of cars without sunroofs is awesome. I've had plenty of sunroof equipped cars, and hardly ever opened them for long because they are way too noisy on a highway, which is the majority of my driving.

    I bought a Lucid Air Pure dual motor because of Savagegeese and Jason Kamissa. I found the software in my ‘22 model 3 to work better and the settings are more customizable but the Lucid just feels so much better, allows you to get the backend loose, it’s quite w/out wind noise, faster and longer range than the Tesla, more comfortable.

      Not a 1999 Corolla, but I wouldn't mind an EV that's on par with a 2024 Corolla, "an car", just make it electric.
      I don't want any of those overpriced CUV or "performance" sedans, just give me okay specs with 150-180hp motor and decent range, 500km would be enough I guess.

    I’m looking to trade in my Model S and drove the Lucid Pure. Loved almost everything about it but there is a software issue that is a deal breaker. There are 3 screens but you CANNOT have your gps and media running at the same time. You can even see in this video that the gps is showing on both large screens at the same time. I asked the salesperson about it and he confirmed.

    Greetings from Dekalb County! Gearhead here: but EVs are starting to make more sense. If you have a garage, and drive less than 100 miles/day, the drive experience is tough to beat. I don’t tow, I don’t road trip past 250 miles, and I come every night. Hard not to have at least 1 EV at home

    Good to hear that it feels like 80% of a Sapphire while being less than 1/3 of the cost. Most people don't need a sub 2sec 0-60 car. The thought of going that quick on a car that heavy is kinda terrifying.

    The fact that car companies are still releasing EVs without heat pumps really goes to show they continue trying to cut corners. I get that it's an expensive addition, but it's required for a large percentage of the population. We don't all live in California.

      70 large is a lot of money for me, just as it is for you and nearly everybody else. But it's hard to escape the context of that number here; this is the price-leader version of a $250,000 car, so I can forgive some corner cutting I normally wouldn't.

      Heat pumps for better range are a hobby horse. Yes you get more range when it is 30F to 50F and you are using heat. Below 30F coefficient of performance goes down to 1 or less and there is no range benefit. They are not worthwhile but everyone thinks they are.

    Don't forget Alfa Romeo in the list of the cars whose fans would appreciate the Lucid Air. I'm driving an Alfa Romeo Veloce Q4 and all I can say is: Alfa is back, Baby! That being said: I test drove the Air and was very impressed. It handles well, goes like a cheetah with its tail of fire and has a lot of room. Everything feels very polished and distinctive. The Air is definitely on my shortlist, despite the low sales numbers that Lucid apparently have. Leasing it should be a no brainer since you can give the car back when and if the company goes belly up.

    I hear what you're saying about range loss, but if you lived with one, and drove less than 300 miles a day, home charging is a better experience than gas- full tank every day, no extra stops at a gas station. On an infrequent road trip charging every 3-4 hours is fine. You're making too big of a deal for an infrequent thing- it's only a big deal if you can't charge at home.

      It takes maybe 3 min to refuel and the infrastructure for gas stations is vastly more convenient than charging stations. Most homes will not have the electrical infrastructure to support EV charging.

      No question about it. Home charging is the way to go. It’s one of the best reasons to own an EV. Park car, put charger in, and don’t worry about it.
      Unless one owns and lives with an EV, they may not understand this kind of convenience.

    The thing I don’t get is why people don’t mention that ICE cars get lower range as well. My Subaru gets 25% mileage in the cold and snowy weather. That’s just how winter works. More drag, winter tires are softer, snow and ice the alternator runs more to power the heat.

      But the EV loses 33% range and costs twice as much as a Subaru and if you need to charge when it’s below freezing. . . Get what you want but don’t pretend like EVs are just as good/bad as petroleum powered vehicles.

      Because 25% less efficiency isn’t that much of an issue when a gas station is on every corner.
      Also, I’ve lived up north in very wintery environments, my vehicles have NEVER lost 25% efficiency, that’s wild. When I was younger I had, for some reason, got in the habit of logging all miles, fill ups, and mathematically calculating MPG’s, there was rarely over 1 mpg difference, unless it was purely a highway trip.

    The federal government requires manufacturers to offer an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty on all EV batteries. California does one better, mandating a warranty of 10 years or 150,000 miles. Some companies will cover a battery only if it completely stops working, while others will replace the battery if it falls below a certain capacity, usually 70% of the original, while still under warranty.

    I saw an ad last month for the 2023 Lucid Air Pure for $749/mo for 18-month lease, 10k miles per year, $6,744 due at signing. MSRP of $82,400. Seems like a decent priced lease honestly.

    Cool, when are they going to do an even smaller one? Something to compete with the prius. 70k is great for a midsize luxury sedan but if that price was down closer to 50k I feel like there would be more potential buyers. Personally i couldn't fathom spending more than 35k for a car and 40k for an SUV.

      It's almost laughable what these electric startups are charging for vehicles that are ultimately worse than what is and has currently been on the market. There is a reason tesla made the model 3. And even that is overpriced, IMO. These things must cost an arm and a leg to insure.

      $23k - $27k is about all most truly “middle class” people (Americans) can afford for a new car and that is pushing it. I refuse and that’s why my cars are 14 yrs old and 10 yrs old. Until they cost me more than $2k-$3k to maintain I’ll never get rid of them.

    I’m a car nut. You’re a car nut. We all love our enthusiast ICE vehicles… but with the way the industry and regulations are going, the future is looking all electric. It’s nice to see a company like Lucid exists that’s prioritizing driving dynamics and feel in the sterile EV landscape. They’re quickly turning into my favorite EV manufacturer and I hope they survive the storm and establish themselves as a household name in the future. The geese deliver another fantastic review as always.

      china is 1/3 of global car market and they're going full ev. by that alone they're never going to go away. add in Europe and the rich usa coasts. its happening

    I really like what Lucid's been doing - If they keep driving the prices down and we see solid state batteries with a nice increase in range appearing in the next 5 years I'll definitely pick one up.

      They’ll be gone by then I guess, but BYD and xpeng have some nice and quite similar vehicles at much lower price.

    7:40 Touring (the next one up) is 5000 lbs; the Grand Touring is 5250 lbs. No idea why adding a 65 lb motor adds 450 lbs though

    Ngl, everyone talk like EVs are all doom and gloom to live with. You balance it out here pretty well, but your phrasing about "how you have to live life with these" is weird. Charging at home is honestly just a generally preferable experience over gas stations. Charging stations only extend my range for individual, long trips that exceed my range, I don't need them outside of that.

      Honestly if you think of EVs in a real world environment when you’re driving to work and home and even if that round trip is 100 miles, if you charge at home nightly then it’s literally like having filled up a gas car every day but cheaper. I’m not much a fan of electric cars but that’s because of my negative view on Tesla since it’s like Apple, everyone wants one. If I had to get an EV I’d seriously consider Lucid.

    Personally I think the whole gas vs EV argument is silly. Both have their purpose and pros and cons, I wish the EV fanboys would understand why EVs don't make good sports cars, and I wish ICE fans would acknowledge the obvious benefits of EVs when it comes to daily drivers. I say this as an enthusiast myself, I've owned several manual transmission sports cars including my current c7 Vette. And I'm telling you, when it comes to daily drivers, a well-executed EV is simply better.
    We have a Jaguar I-PACE EV as our daily driver. This replaced our 970 Panamera Turbo (both of which we bought used btw), a car that most ICE fans would probably agree is a pretty good daily driver in its own right. And I can honestly say the Jag is better in every single way. I don’t miss the Panamera one bit, neither does the wife. With the Jag, there’s no automatic transmission to get confused around town, never getting into a hot or cold car with preconditioning, there’s insane instant torque, the smoothness and refinement is unmatched (not only because no engine noise but also because the 1000 pound battery insulates you from road noise), the use of space is excellent (small on the outside and big on the inside because no engine), low center of gravity, naturally perfect weight distribution, being able to blow by anyone in traffic anytime, never being in the wrong gear, way more efficient, never being late because I had to stop for gas, no maintenance, quicker than most v8 family cars and more efficient than i-4 family cars, etc etc. And even though on paper the panamera was faster 0-60, in real life around town it’s not even close - the Jag would be gone before the panamera would even get into the right gear. Yes, it can be annoying on road trips - but it's not the end of the world unless you road trip all the time. It's the better car 364 days of the year, and the worse car 1 day of the year.
    Having said all of that, like I said I'm an enthusiast, and we also have two sports cars (manual transmission c7 corvette stingray and an R56 Mini Cooper JCW, both of which I frequently use for road rallys and autocross), and I have no desire for either of those to be electric. The whole point of those cars is a visceral, loud, lightweight, connected experience with a manual transmission. I know there is a Boxster EV coming soon and I’m sure it’ll be great and smoke my c7 around any racetrack, but I have no interest at all, even as a current EV owner. Sports cars should be gas powered and manual IMO. So as I said, each has their purpose. I don’t see myself ever going back to gas for daily driver, and I don’t see myself ever going EV for sports cars.
    My point is simple: EVs are better at some things, and gas cars are better at some things. "Taking a side" doesn't make sense, even for enthusiasts. Just acknowledge what the other is better at. EVs dont work for everyone (you need a place to charge and can't road trip all the time etc etc), but if it works in your lifestyle - try it before you knock it is all I'm saying. You might be surprised.
    And like I said - just because a car is EV doesn't make it good. There are good EVs and bad ones, just like gas cars. For example, I' not a huge Tesla fan. But, the well-executed EVs are, in my opinion, the best daily drivers, if they fit into your lifestyle.
    ...and this is coming from someone that's currently on his 8th manual transmission sports car (Vette, Mini JCW, 350Z, etc etc). And to be clear - these are my favorite cars, not the I-PACE. But, I have a wife and a kid, and we need something that isn't manual and has a back seat. And in that category, the Jag is by far and away the best we've had.

      The problem with this philosophy is that it means real sports cars will become completely unaffordable, and EVs will supposedly come down further in price. So when you take that sort of accessibility away, what you’ll basically see is the death of motorsports.

      @@eldiablort1461 I actually do agree with that and I see the flaw in my own logic. Truthfully, that was happening anyway even before EVs with everything going turbo charged, AWD, DCT etc. But yes it will be accelerated

    How does it compare against model 3 (performance)? Race car driver Randy pobst seems to like the model 3. He tuned the track mode software for Tesla

      This lucid RWD weighs over 700lbs more than the Tesla RWD. It’s one reason Model 3’s do so well in autocross.

    Great review gents, love the emphasis on the drivers car blend with luxury. Would like to hear what Lexus you would compare this to... the look of the Air has pulled me in since I first saw it... and the interior of the higher trims made me say: this is what the Model S should have done. It seems like the Pure would be an excellent daily driver for highway driver with ample storage options. Thanks for the work you guys do, really enjoy your channel. Excited to see where Lucid is headed.
