@@markplott4820 They said the same thing about Tesla with the Roadster and after the Model S started production and was losing them a large amount per vehicle
@@MrCarGuylucid have it much easier than tesla for manufacturing. There is no excuse for their out of control build costs. Plus the model S was very quickly cash flow positive at the build level, which lucid is nowhere near doing.
@@MrCarGuywe can't pretend that both are operating in the same timeline. When tesla did it, there was no tesla, rivian, byd, etc to compare to.. nissan had the leaf, and gm long discontinued their ev1 when tesla was selling model S. Model 3 was out before lucid started..and sold model y before lucid began selling their first cars.. now model y is best selling vehicle world wide 2023 nearly 1.3 million sold, lucid still hasn't made more then 10k+ cars in a single year. Lucid is still at the roadster level tesla was in 2011 with worse financials, and tesla is out here selling more cybertrucks then all other ev trucks combined. Scaling their semi truck, launching cyber cab, it is just not even comparable. Lucid trying the tesla model but a decade late and funded by saudis not us investors. A lot harder to get behind especially when ev competition is already high and continually increasing. Also not even considering tesla megapack storage biz (10% of revenue prior quarter) and growing, or solar, battery production, fsd/autopilot, or tesla bot... the opportunity investing in tsla vs lucid is so obviously in favor of tesla, outside of gamblers on longshots, im not sure who investing in lucid is for.. maybe people whp think they missed the boat on tesla and want to get in at lower price on lucid.. but to be honest its clearly not even close to the same opportunity or quality of company
I thought the trunk molding and undercut manufacturing and assembly process had to be super expensive. Nope! It's just really, REALLY smart. I just really hope that Lucid realizes this and makes as much of their product user-replaceable and user-repairable as possible. Even in the front fascia, where there are so many super expensive components, EVERYTHING seems to be held on with screws and bolts instead of adhesives (or worse, clips) which makes things easier to repair (even if they're not as cheap). Their battery modules are a really good example - the pack is modular, the modules themselves are simple and ALSO modular without any unnecessary bonding or adhesive agents, the busbar is lightweight and made of aluminum, and the ballistic shield protects all of it. And the entire underfloor is also bolted in instead of welded or bonded to the structure - great for repair and service.
Lucid has very impressive engineering - if they can continue to scale manufacturing and volume - they can become profitable. I am looking forward to the new Gravity.
That front bumper assembly is a perfect illustration of the promise and perils of modern auto engineering. It's a beautiful piece that no doubt achieves its engineering goals. It is also impossible to repair and is likely to result in big insurance rates and increased totaled cars. No doubt their target demographic doesn't care much about that though. That rear drive unit is insane- I wonder if they would sell me one to stick in a hot rod
Great technology and enthusiasm from the team. A real shame is that the whole company (Lucid) is now worth less than 7 billion dollars (Petty cash for Tesla) Lucid has fallen another 5% today having already fallen 45% in the last 12 months. I do hope that even if Lucid fails into bankruptcy that all this great technology lives on with a company that will use all their great research and patents. It is very hard to see how Lucid can scale to profitability fast enough to survive. Lucid Motors, a California-based electric vehicle has lost varying amounts per car sold, including: Q1 2024: Lucid lost around $350,000 per car delivered Q2 2023: Lucid lost around $338,000 per car made Q3 2023: Lucid lost over $227,000 per car sold March 2024: Lucid lost $400,000 per car sold
Lucid won’t go bankrupt as long as the Saudi money keeps flowing. 20 years from now this may be a brilliant investment. Not now. It’s like the foundation of a cathedral that takes 100 years. There’s a difference between capitalism and knowledge.
Backed by a trillion dollar sovereign wealth fund that has a stated national priority of developing green technology manufacturing, Lucid faces no funding problems. Lucid shares may not be the best choice for average investors, but the company itself is on a very strong footing.
@@JoeBlow-rl1xw Saudi certainly has great resources and if they choose to keep Lucid on life support. they can do what you say. But will they or will they take another route.? Time will tell.
@@Miata822 You may be right my friend, time will tell, but I Have my doubts personally that Lucid will survive as the entity is now, but I certainly hopes its technology survives.
Always fun to see the Lucid team excited by their technology. I"m curious if they have made any modifications in their technology in the past 4 years. These descriptions are the design and manufacturing breakthroughs from years ago. Did it seem like they are continuing to advance their tech or are now mostly focused on packaging into SUV/midsize and licensing tech?
Seems like Lucid is pushing harder than Tesla on the innovation side. The Gravity launch and subsequent mass adoption, should bring a breath of fresh and green air!❤️👍
I’m starting to understand that Lucid is marketing themselves more like a watchmaker than a car company. They use terms such as “in-house” as a differentiation because there are cheaper and more efficient systems out there but that doesn’t seem to be their goal. They are marketing luxury and technical novelty over profitability.
they have been upfront about being a luxury electric car maker, and making other luxury ICE manufacturer as their competitor, but they're bleeding money in achieving their goal in a market share that are too minute to begin with. It's important to strive for ambitious goal, but more importantly to make money while you're getting there, which is what Tesla did. Doubt Lucid could achieve that without someone like Elon at the helm.
That's all Lucid has to offer.... an overly expensive watch. Yet it only tells time just like the other watches of almost the same quality but a much lower price.
I do love the Techincal achievments of this Company, though.... Those differential spider gears look extremely small and fragile to be able to transmit the high HP this motor produces... Good Luck on your continued automotive enhancements.
HP=(T x RPM)/5252 By spinning the diff at high speed (before the reduction gears) the Torque on the diff is greatly reduced vs. the typical diff located after reduction and spinning at the much slower wheel speed.
That twin rear drive unit allows a very capable RWD sport/supercar like the Porsche 911 GT2RS, AMG GT Blackline, etc. Mate it to a battery that is not overly big and a light chassis and body, and total weight could get close to that GT2RS or Ferrari 12cilindri or Aston Martin Vanquish. Torque vectoring is very handy and the twin motor allows ~700 hp for a lot of time with higher peak bursts.
Cool stuff however I have to point out that lucid neither designed engineered nor manufactured their headlights and micro lens array. That was done by a supplier.
Lucid's technology and integrated design ethic, coupled with the focus on ensuring that all of that can be manufactured in the most efficient way possible, makes the company altogether different from any other in the business (including Tesla). The concern is that the present market demand, and the price point at which Lucid is seeking to sell its vehicles (luxury, expensive), will result in a commercial failure. I hope that Lucid's biggest investors, including the Saudis, keep the faith (in the product and the amazing engineering personnel who have pulled it all together).
Next I'd like to see their drivetrains meet lightness. What can be replaced to drop weight? Will Aston Martin really get their drivetrains? Or more? Curious to see what can be done with higher ticket cars. Carbon battery modules? Integrated battery box and chassis from carbon? A clever BEV drivetrain with a clever McLaren-like chassis could challenge the gas powered Porsche 911.
You arnt going to get much lighter than this on the drivetrain side. The vehicle around it has to be lighter. And more energy dense cells would be lighter.
So what mass market will actually be available to them? My question to lucid is with all this incredible design and engineering, seemingly, will it be moot because the entire transportation industry moves towards robotics and fleet vehicles.? So what mass market will actually be available to them?
Outstanding design and construction. The ICE engine has benefited from 150 years of incremental improvements, while electric motors have mostly emulated Nikola Tesla’s design. But Lucid motors are One Step Beyond! When I hit the Powerball, a Lucid (or two) will be among my collection. Clearly, Lucid stands apart from Fiskar and Tesla. Only Aptera comes close to level of innovation, imho.

Great job guys! Absolutely fascinating to watch and feel your passion perfectly mixed with your genius.
I believe in your project and I am going to order my new Lucid Pure Air before year end.
Wishing you all the best and keep that passion!

Audi had the wave winding already 2019 in their production cars. That were the 50 TFSI e-Versions of Q5, A6 and A7.
What a pleasure to see that sectioned view at 37:30. Good stuff!
"Its never been our problem to ramp and sell cars" 21:33
That is actually, precisely the problem. And not doing it profitably
Exactly
Guess the Saudis like to play with real electric cars instead of toy ones.
Lucid will never, IMO, return a profit to them.
Well I think it may be more of a demand problem than a ramp up problem, but it is probably both. I don't think any car company can be profitable at 50,000 units or less, unless you can sell them at ferrari or lamborghini type prices.
Selling at a loss and making it up on volume is a risky strategy.
They optimized the process so cost effectively, they are now selling 100k cars with a loss. Love the plastic part designed in there to fail with time to encourage more future sales.
You guys are awesome. Love the technical details.
I see so many Tesla fans say nobody can compete with Tesla on efficiency, but it’s just not reality. This is super impressive from every standpoint.
Tesla have an Elon, Lucid have a Peter. Puny Peter (Hulk, Avengers movie...)
2:50 the painted area should be covered by the frunk cover making the liftover height lower and preventing damage if something doesn't make it up and over.
What a great video, best Munro video in my opinion.
I thought I would skip around and go through this video in about 10 minutes, watched every minute of it though because it is really well done and great engineering. Lucid vehicles are expensive but very impressive, awesome powertrain!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Such a great video
Keep inspiring people to build great products
I really want to see the machine that inserts the copper weave into the stater.
Impressive tech and interesting discussion. I wish Lucid all the best and I hope Aston Martin re-invigorates its plan to develop an EV convertible to replace both my DB11 and Tesla model 3.
why ? do we need MORE unaffordable LUXURY cars?
None of this is new technology
@@TheMrgoodmanners - BTW , Tesla released for FREE 6 NEW low voltage Connectors to replace 200+ legacy connectors.
Loocid uses over 200+ low voltage connectors in their vehicles,......lol.
Really encouraging, top notch new stuff.
lucid's engineering is just 👌👌
Love this. Huge fan of lucid as an engineer. Would love to be a customer when cost aligns with my family's realities. (Until then, the fantasizing will continue.) 🙂
Amazing thinking of details! I just love this! WOW!
I like the way the engineers are prood of their products! They should be, it realy is a world class achievement they made!
It's great to see this level of engineering. Can't wait to see them make a cheaper price car.
Amazing engineering showcase, thank you!
Also I understand you cannot take photos at Lucid, only videos 😄
I’m concerned about china fast-following this phenomenal system.
Paul, Jordan and the cantankerous Sandy are my favorite Monroe personalities - with their ability to pull out the interesting content from guests (or share their own disassembly analysis).
This video is phenomenal. When Emad describes the details of any component you hear the passion and sense his gray matter - phenomenal Lucid find. (I loved his Ansys history and the overnight decision.)
Doug
China doesn't need to copy - they lead in EVs. Xiaomi's SU7 Ultra Prototype EV just destroyed the Nuburgring record for 4 door sedans by a LOT over Lucid and Tesla. Scary thing it's close to the production car....👀
they're showing older technologies, not their latest
When Engineering is allowed to run a Company rather than the sales department, and the fantastic Engineering sells the Product, very impressive, Lucid.
I'm loading up on Lucid stock!
🙋♂️🤗THANKS PAUL ,ERIC,EMAD AND THE MUNRO TEAM FOR THE INTERVIEW OF LUCID MOTORS 🧐 INTERESTING 🔋🔋🔋
Such a revelation of engineering.
Amazing video. Very informative.
Glad it was helpful!
Please review the BMW i4 motor. It takes a unique approach, as it uses a synchronous electric motor without a permanent magnet.
Induction motor uses more energy for a give power output.
@ the i4 doesn’t have an induction motor.
Very cool video. This is HR department success :)) in past and for future)) !!
It's not just about the technology but the economics must be sound.
Loocid and even make PROFIT on a single Vehicle.
Loocid motors will NEVER able to SCALE.
and of course you know everything about the economics of their parts and products
Imagine a scaled down version of the motor tech in a mototorbike!
Fantastic video
Lucid has very impressive engineering - if they can continue to scale manufacturing and volume - they can become profitable. I am looking forward to the new Gravity.
That front bumper assembly is a perfect illustration of the promise and perils of modern auto engineering. It's a beautiful piece that no doubt achieves its engineering goals. It is also impossible to repair and is likely to result in big insurance rates and increased totaled cars. No doubt their target demographic doesn't care much about that though.
That rear drive unit is insane- I wonder if they would sell me one to stick in a hot rod
Oh, and thanks to the Lucid guys and MunroLive for doing this video. Great stuff
I'm the biggest Tesla fan. But it's really cool to see a deep dive and neutral view of some of the other companies out there too!
Lucid Motors, a California-based electric vehicle has lost varying amounts per car sold, including:
Q1 2024: Lucid lost around $350,000 per car delivered
Q2 2023: Lucid lost around $338,000 per car made
Q3 2023: Lucid lost over $227,000 per car sold
March 2024: Lucid lost $400,000 per car sold
Lucid just need to apply this engineering ability to the factory and production process, not just the car.
COGS through the roof
Look at these men, so full of passion for their work. Hope LUCID survives at least for their sakes.
Seems like Lucid is pushing harder than Tesla on the innovation side. The Gravity launch and subsequent mass adoption, should bring a breath of fresh and green air!❤️👍
Is this video complete? There appears to be no discussion of the Wunderbox.
Hey, that Sapphire jacket isn't on the website!
TESLA in Chyna in 90% IN - House, they make the SAFEST & cars @ PROFIT.
they have been upfront about being a luxury electric car maker, and making other luxury ICE manufacturer as their competitor, but they're bleeding money in achieving their goal in a market share that are too minute to begin with. It's important to strive for ambitious goal, but more importantly to make money while you're getting there, which is what Tesla did. Doubt Lucid could achieve that without someone like Elon at the helm.
While at the same time occassionally talking about their amazing cost savings 😂
@@shamhoshino Lucid has Peter Rawlinson. You should go back to when the Model S was at the same birthplace as the Lucid Air.
HP=(T x RPM)/5252 By spinning the diff at high speed (before the reduction gears) the Torque on the diff is greatly reduced vs. the typical diff located after reduction and spinning at the much slower wheel speed.
fiding out one of their powertrain guys is from Ansys, it makes sense why its so fucking insanely efficient
Fantastic tech and video. Will Lucid ever be making RHD versions of these cars?
That twin rear drive unit allows a very capable RWD sport/supercar like the Porsche 911 GT2RS, AMG GT Blackline, etc.
Mate it to a battery that is not overly big and a light chassis and body, and total weight could get close to that GT2RS or Ferrari 12cilindri or Aston Martin Vanquish. Torque vectoring is very handy and the twin motor allows ~700 hp for a lot of time with higher peak bursts.
Definitely the most beautiful of the current EVs.
Incredible integration!
Thoughtful engineering evolution 👍
Cool stuff however I have to point out that lucid neither designed engineered nor manufactured their headlights and micro lens array. That was done by a supplier.
Generally OEMs work with suppliers, so there might be some input, but yeah kinda tooting their own horn, aren't they?
As per every manufacturer
The host did heavily imply that lucid made that tech.
@@jarretta2656 that is what I found very disingenuous.
no disrespect, but how do you know that?
Fantastic video. It would be cool to see a crate motor available for purchase.
"NO CRATE MOTORS FOR YOU...!!!" (best Cory sweating in the desert heat of AZ voice)
I hope they will survive and grow along with the stock price.
Remember what market they are competing in. Their cars are not overweight compared to their ICE or BEV competition
if you are referring to the drive units discussed in the video, they are already insanely lightweight
Though I did not understand half the things, they all look very exited. I am thinking of buying some shares in the company.
Never mind the engineers, go ask the CFO how the C-suite compensation is justified while they're in the red
Impressive!
LCID 10$ INCOMING
Replacement cost on that front bumper?
I love seeing the Lucid tech and clean, sleek design. Pair it with Tesla’s software capability so that you can get FSD and it would be perfect!
What keeps the cooling fluid from leaking between each laminate? Nice concept but with age I see that becoming a sieve.
the king!
