This reminds me when I was 9 and I asked a stranger for help right before my concert. He ended up being one of my college professors later on. Funny how these things work.
So I assume this is how it went. 9 year old you: Mister can you help me tie this tie? Stranger: Sure *Explains while demonstrating* and that's how you do it. You: Thank you mister. *Leaves* *Years later* You: Sir.. Don't I know you from somewhere? Teacher: Yeah.. you look familiar. Where or how did we meet? You: I think you were the guy that helped me tie a tie when I was a kid back in (year) Teacher: Oh yeah! Now I remember you!
I learned to tie a tie watching Gomer Pyle when I was 12. Little did I know at the time it would serve me well in boot camp in 1982. I think there was a couple of other recruits who knew how to tie a tie and we wound up tying everyone else's tie for them for the Bn. Cmdr.'s inspection.
My first job was a bag boy at a supermarket. Boss called me over on the first day and said I had to wear a tie, he handed me one. I went out to the floor and asked an older kid how to tie a tie. "Go find the cutest cashier and ask her, that's how". Life lesson 😄 And yes, she tied my tie. For some reason it didn't work at Parris Island 😆
I learned to tie the "field scarf" long ago (1965) and there was an added stipulation for "uniform appearance" in my day. When the final pass-through movement was made, there was supposed to be a "dimple" at the top of the large end where it appeared below the main knot body. I noted there was no dimple present in this presentation. I guess things have changed quite a bit in the last 54 years. I still put that dimple in my tie as per regulations of 1965 with every tie I tie. Old habits die hard....
Thanks for the lesson. However, I hate tying ties. So I simply go to the PX and buy the ready made ties. Just have to hope I never got gigged on an Inspection. BTW thanks to the U.S.M.C I still have dreams of Marine Corps inspections close to 40 years later.
@Porkchop Periwinkle Good idea. I always feared being inspected and then the C.O takes me aside, Tells me to remove and re-tie the tie. I still have dreams of that happening and wake up in a panic. PTSD.
In general, the structure of the individual tie at the position of the actual knot will determine whether you should use a Full Windsor of Half Windsor knot. Depending on how tall you are, if there is too much material in the know, a Full Windsor might appear too large and have too much bulge. In that case, a Half-Windsor might be more appropriate, In my opinion, a Full Windsor is typically too large of a knot. A Half Windsor looks cleaner and more proportional.
This was great.Im a Cadet Major at a military academy and I use a ruler to measure the the length of the tie is 1/2 inch from the top and nottom of the belt buckle. I measure the tie tie bar which must be 50/50 distance from the top of the neck and the belt buckle.Tie tacks are also required it must be 1/3 from the neck and must be completely centered 50/50 on each side. When jackets are being worn Cadets are required to open their jackets so I can take tie measurements. This requirement is a continuation of a rigid strict Military Academy from a 17 year old Military School Junior but who is a hard disciplinarian to all Cadets from grade 6 to PH.
@@perceptionmanagement2116 Too bad rules are rules. Either follow the rules or drop to the ground for many, many push-ups . I hand out demerits like they are water
I'm going to be nit-picky here, but I'm sure you won't mind because USMC spells nit-picky. The end of your belt should be no more than a 1/4 inch from the belt buckle itself to clean up the gig-line.
They do, but if you spent the majority of your enlistment deployed, and only put on alpha blues once per year for the ball, you forget how to tie a tie
LOL You've just aged yourself. I concur with you. That was the proper nomenclature for the uniform tie worn with class A uniforms. I call it that also. I was active duty from 1965 to 1969.
“I'd like to have two armies: one for display with lovely guns, tanks, little soldiers, staffs, distinguished and doddering Generals, and dear little regimental officers who would be deeply concerned over their General's bowel movements or their Colonel's piles, an army that would be shown for a modest fee on every fairground in the country. The other would be the real one, composed entirely of young enthusiasts in camouflage uniforms, who would not be put on display, but from whom impossible efforts would be demanded and to whom all sorts of tricks would be taught. That's the army in which I should like to fight.”- Jean Larteguy

Thank you, I was tired of being yelled at! ❤️
You got yelled at in the fleet? I’m reserves so I will probably just be at my duty station and not the fleet.
My dad served 30yrs in the Marine Core and that's exactly how he taught/ is teaching me how to tie a tie! Semper Fi!
Its Corps, not Core.

When the Marines start doing PSAs, you know things are finally getting to how they’re supposed to be.
Billy Bob John Adam Joe they're not though :(

Yo, Mrs.Drill-instruct. Can you spare a min, sis?
-A dead recruit probably.

1985 we were taught to put the "dimple" as you stated, which I still did when I retired in 2006 and still do now.

so you're telling me you had some guy who is left dominant teach everyone how to tie a tie
Thank you for your service 🇺🇸!
I love me a Double Windsor. Can’t stand a lopsided unsat knot.
Almost as bad as a lazy clip on.
Semper Fi Mac
Probably one of the most popular videos ever on RUclips: “How to tie a tie”. Now, USMC style
Thank you for the video. Retired for 14 years and have to go to a military funeral in the morning. I forgot how to tie a tie.

They should’ve included how to correctly blouse a tie as well. It looks so much better when worn correctly.

Agree.
Having the tip LOWER than the top of the buckle was unsat.
In the Old Corps, we were taught to tie our ''Field Scarf'' with a Four-in-hand because we did not have time to fuck with the windsor.
Dang I gotta say thank you I thought I was making a mess and then bam kts tied
this dude is left handed
Got it on my second try!!
Typed in ''how to tie a Royal Marine neck tie - United Kingdom'' and got this!!! How is this an appropriate result to what i asked for????
how am I supposed to learn how to tie a tie although I'm not a Marine
You watch the video again.
How do you measure the lenght? I'm able to tie a tie but allways have problems ti get the right lenght.
I've always wore my tie so it doesn't block my belt buckle

They do, but if you spent the majority of your enlistment deployed, and only put on alpha blues once per year for the ball, you forget how to tie a tie
Huh, I was taught the four-in-hand in boot camp, the Windsor is too big of a knot for service B shirt collars, it looks off.

@partriarch: “Aged myself.” No, I believe guys of our service-generation are only providing wisdom to our younger brothers and sisters.
😏😏😏
And a"Field Scarf Retainer".......Am I really this damn old??
I’m literally more confused now wtf
Theres a vid of a brit explaining in under a minute on youtube. That is what helped me
Alot of marines use the same tied up neck tie from bootcamp lol
Aout One facts
3 years strong
Let’s make the tie is long enough.... perfect it is.
What if it isn’t?
I don't tie my tie while looking directly at myself. This should be shot while looking down POV style. It would help with understanding.
Buy the clip on one they sell at the Px
Nice
"let's film this in a dark room"

It was a "Field Scarf Retainer"-- Not a tie clasp......back in the day.......Semper Fidelis.........
isn't that a normal knot for ties or did I accidentally learn a military knot?

Cool. 🇺🇸😎
How about keep the camera angle consistent jeez
Not clear view of the step after the first loop with wide end.
This made it seems way too easy to get right. Never fail the knot would look great but be too high/ low from the belt
