In this video from Cateel, Davao Oriental we go on a life adventure with Anselm, my Welsh friend who lives in the Philippines. We started calling him Commander Daot... but really he is just awesome! I think it is so impressive how he is living local here in Mindanao and trying his best at a fish pond business in Cateel.

As a Fishery Technology graduate I experienced before the hardships on how to work and venture into Aquaculture field. There are lots of problems you are going to encounter i.e. the frequent typhoons that visited the Philippines that would eventually eradicate your fish stock due to flood, the fish thieves that will harvest your stock at midnight, variable brackish water temperature that will affect the oxygen content of the pond's water and algea growth. the presence of nuisances that will compete with the fish stock on fish meal and algea consumption. And the most headache is on how to find the competent and reliable buyers of your products to give you profit. But I salute this Bitoy guy who bravely ventured on aquaculture business.

anselm makes do with a third world acommodation while being from a first world country, very humble and he is quite comfortable with it, very admirable. not a lot of folks from very advanced nations could do his lifestyle, heck not even a lot of filipinos could live like that....couldn't help it but i'm smiling all throughout this edition.

I truly impressed what your friend did. Having one's dream come true would truly goes too many obstacles to experienced along the path. Right employees to trust, loyalty, and honesty are characteristcs to look up. Anyway, at this pandemic food is important than anything else. For sure ppl will buy your milkfish kuya. Without fod leads any person from starvation. Just make sure you know the value of the fish to be sold in the market. By the way kuya, your payag-payag is super cool. Just cover with zeal on the sides n covered the flooring with waterproof flooring ( no bugs gets in)....you are surrounded with ponds. Slowly but surely business. Liked and approved your bahay kubo👍😎👍

Kulas, you should coordinate with Manny Pinol the one currently in charge of Mindanao Farming that includes salt or fresh water farming. He sect. Manny Pinol is a great guy working under the office of the Phil. President Duterte. He supports for free any farming business related challenges.

Your videos truly highlight the beauty of the Philippines and I am missing it so much. Pls feature Anselm more in your videos - we love watching him. He's so charismatic. Hi Anselm! For many episodes, we thought people were calling you Handsome hahaha! (We know how Filipinos love to go by nicknames ;) We wish you luck on the fishing pond. As you may already know, Philippines is all about connections. I'm not sure about the fish business but I know that some of Manila's fruits come from Mindanao. Try to make contacts with people in the supermarkets and they may be able to give you names of their suppliers and work with them or develop relationships with the vendors as well. I know you mention that they're already getting supplied by trucks, but still some vendors may still want to feature your product. If you create a facebook page and hire someone to deliver directly to people's houses or at a central location, that might be another option. They are doing this in the U.S. My relatives in the Philippines who sell stuff also sell in bulk to their "sellers" and this is a good idea for other locals to also make money. They usually sell to their families, friends and neighbors and a really good strategy to get rid of inventory. The other idea is to create connections with those at the fish ports. A pandemic also requires creative thinking and solutions, not sure if this is allowed due to pandemic etc. But I love your location. Is it possible to turn it into some kind of eco-tourism where you show and teach people about fishing? Your location is just so beautiful that I'm sure people would love to check it out. This might also be a great way to make connections with the locals. Also, I love your place - it is simple and humble - what Philippines is. I personally love Nipa Huts :) Who needs more when you're living in already such a wonderful location. Super apir!
