While in the air force me and a good friend went a camping trip trip to mount wittney in lone pine California. Half way up the mountian was a abandoned cabin. Left on the rafters was cans of food left by others. With a note asking to leave some food if we had it, but were welcome to what ever was left if we needed it. That night we heard this noise , that scared us. Shined a flashlight looklng for what ever it was. Turned out to be a kingerro mouse. I laughed so hard there were tiers in my eyes. What a great memory. That was i 1960 . Im 82 years old now. The memories are still very vivid in my mind. Today i thank god for those experiences. P.S. please excuse any typos.
I remember several decades ago I to climbed Mount Whitney. I went from sea level to about 10 -11,000 feet in a matter of 6-7 hours. I got such altitude sickness I thought I was gonna die. It still was a great memory, BTW, I’m 60 now just a bit behind you, my friend. God bless you.

Wow. Talk about willingly walking alone into situations which could easily lead to disaster. I admire his guts, confidence and know how. Nothing seems to phase him. Nice, clean, well stocked little cabin waiting for him. They provide well and do things right in that part of the world. Very impressive. Glad he made it back to his car.
My legs on are on fire just watching this. Treamendous amount of effort to hike in that deep of snow even when its flat....i dont want to imagine how much energy to climb in it like that.
The Gemona Alpini Battalion fought in WWI, and in WWII invading Greece and fighting in the Soviet Union. Near the end of the war, as part of the Salo Republic, they fought against Slovenian partisans in the same area as the bivoac. The unit was disbanded in the 1990s.

I thought that looked like a chapel. That is the most gorgeous public mountain hut/cabin I've ever seen. A craftsman worked on building it, and a craftsman worked on refurbishing it.
This guy really is awesome! The places he goes to. And by himself. Manages to take excellent camera footage. In the middle of a dang snow storm at night. Walking in it waist deep. With a big backpack. 2 hiking sticks . And a camera. I’ve been watching this guy a lot lately. Not to mention a good cook. Really enjoy your videos sir. Excellent young man. Terrific video. The WWI artifacts were fascinating, and the scenery was epic. Brutal hike, by the way, for anyone that hasn’t tried trudging through chest deep snow with a pack on. Starvation and exhaustion accompanied him to the bivouac 🥃.
Read the novel "A Soldier of the Great War" by Mark Helprin ... it contains a great fictionalized account of the alpine fighting between the Italians and the Austrians ... the main character is an Italian alpinist
Walking like that in the snow without proper gear is as dumd as it can get. The place where you slept is called Bivacco Battaglione Alpini Gemona and is in Italy's Friuli Region, just to let you and the viewers know.

Terrific video. The WWI artifacts were fascinating, and the scenery was epic. Brutal hike, by the way, for anyone that hasn’t tried trudging through chest deep snow with a pack on. Starvation and exhaustion accompanied him to the bivouac 🥃.
Read the novel "A Soldier of the Great War" by Mark Helprin ... it contains a great fictionalized account of the alpine fighting between the Italians and the Austrians ... the main character is an Italian alpinist
