LIFESAVER big big thank you to you man, I was so beyond stuck. Spent like 40 mins toying around with leverage to compress piston… even bent my piston compression tool…. Hint for anyone else that this is going to help big time, OP shows a 9v circuit waiting to be completed that’s made of material not everyone has laying around the house..
if you need to implement this trick and you aren’t a mechanic/electrician with all sorts of 12v leads and grounds laying around, you can literally pull one out of something as simple as an old Co2 sensor that runs on 9v batteries, cut positive lead and ground from the board of the old appliance… strip the wires, touch them to electronic motor for caliper… all set! Bonus points if you find a way to pull out just the wires and terminal connectors all still in one piece without the need to resolder… and you won’t end up looking silly as all hell when the neighbor looks out and sees you plugging a co2 sensor into your brake caliper lmao

Thank you my Russian Comrade, you helped me with my brake issue. My 2020 Toyota Corolla Le was having e brake malfunction and couldn’t put car into brake service mode. Your hack helped me override the brake caliber piston so I can change brake pads Ty ❤

Super helpful video. I’m going to try the 12v option on my Volvo and BMW when I need to do the rear brakes. The Foxwell 530 OBD2 bidirectional scanner is capable of accomplishing this by putting the brakes in service mode, but you do have to pay for the scanner + additional $ for different car manufacturers.

Hi. I used to own a foxwell too. I eventually bought a launch 129 pro from launch directly. It covers everything you need including EPB. free updates for life too. It's a spend though for home mechanics at £269 but the usefulness of it served me well as a Roadside tech too. I rarely got my snap on scanner out!

On Toyota chr you can follow a procedure using the electronic parking brake lever to retract the piston. But i didnt realise you can apply power directly to the contacts to also push the piston out as well thanks for the explanation.

I'm a master Tech of Toyota no need of battery with the Rear Brake Service "you can do the Service only with the Parking Brake Switch"
    1) Car switch on/Ready (engine off) Push Start button 2 times without pressing the foot brake pedal - if with key just move the key to ON position
    2) With Car in on Position (Engine OFF) NOW press the foot brake pedal don't release it and push the parking brake switch 3 times up and 3 times down and the Brake light would start blinking (service Mode)
    3) Now release the foot brake pedal and push the Parking Brake Switch Down don't stop pushing it because you would here like in 4 seconds the rear brake retracting the Piston. When you stop hearing it you can now stop pushing it down the parking brake switch.
    4) replace the pads or make any service of the rear brake
    5) Now just push up the parking brake switch and hold it UP until the blinking brake light STOP blinking. which mean the Rear brake piston is Release and the vehicule now Exit of service mode to Normal operation

You are right! You can enable the service mode using this sequence of steps.
We have a separate service mode video as well: Toyota Corolla (2019-2024): Enabling Rear Brake Service Mode. EPB Actuator Release. No TechStream! - ruclips.net/video/k3UFl-YBx24/видео.html.
This video shows that you can also manually unwind the electric parking brake motor using the 12 or 9 volt battery and retract caliper piston when you work on the rear brakes.

@@MorozovAutomotive Good Stuff 👍 But be careful the new Tundra 22-24 if you do it like that with a battery you can break the rear brake motor ($$$$) since you can only retract the piston only removing (2) 5mm Hex for removing the rear motor brake and using a Torx 50 behind and a caliper compressor

Looks Like I will never own a Toyota. There should be groves in the piston for a piston cube to fit and turn the piston by hand. Toyota obviously wants you going to the dealership to fix this.
