I just showed this to my son as inspiration for him learning guitar not knowing the news. RIP an absolute legend. 😔
you idiot dad...Inspiration to drugs and alcoholism...
@@kimkong9622 Fuck off. Listen to the good, leave the bad. Eddie is one of my all time favorite guitarists. All legends have flaws. Don't dispute what made them legendary.
Kim Kong Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin all had vices as well, should they be ignored too? What a stupid insensitive thing to say.
Eddie was the inspiration to my son too......RIP...EVH
Playing so clean it kills coronavirus. RIP GOAT.
It should be illegal to put an ad in this video. RIP Eddie

Eddie van halen should be remembered as a mozart, or beethoven a modern day version what a genius, rip maestro van halen!
some of his solos truly portrayed the worst of human emotion, in such a beautiful way...
eddie didn't even amount to a wart on beethoven's ass. listen to eruption then listen to the third movement of beethoven's moonlight sonata. Blows eddie away in every respect.
@@brettsmith8956 Pretty sure he's talking about how Eddie pioneered the electric guitar for an entire generation of people who wanted to be like him and had a shit ton of musical talent. He's the most influential guitarist that ever lived and was just as good at guitar as Beethoven was on piano.
Paganini is probably a more apt classical comparison. Eddie was more a virtuoso like paganini and they both changed the way people played the instrument. A composer isn't really apples to apples.
@Jensen Morgan and then Eddie named his son Wolfgang
Ladies and gentlemen........
The greatest guitar player ever.
Amen
I agree, but watch out for Hendrix fans
I agree 120 percent
Jimmy hendrix not even close
Randy Rhoades is the only oneness who could even come close
I cry when I watch these “Eruption” videos, but I can’t stop watching them.
Come on Jeff hang in there... Eddie has a great time at his new address ..new people to meet and a lot to discover. Knowing it will be just a matter of time before seeing his family and friends again. And the best thing.. everybody happy.
RIP bro rock will live forever
Same here crying as i write ✍ 😢
He left us music and performances that will stand the test of time
I've seen maybe a dozen on here and this one's the very best, just beats Live Without A Net IMHO
Eddie was only 22 when they recorded Van Halen 1 & Eruption with Ted Templeman. 22. That said, he was still in his teens when he started improvising, writing, and then becoming Master to the instrument. Truly an Icon, he will still be a legend, long after many former, current & future "legends" are forgotten. RIP, EVH.
Eddie also, at the age of 9 and 2 years after immigrating to the US, won the first of 3 piano competitions in a row in Long Beach, CA
he was 23-24
Gifted and talented
3:53. Just appreciating the brilliance that you are witnessing. Priceless.
There’s a video of “not enough” for this same show, and towards the end of the song this same kid is shown singing to the song.
Makes you wonder if that kid and the girl with him has seen this video and others from this show.
I remember in the 70's someone talking about this band that was playing in Pasadena at a house party and were supposed to be pretty good. It was Van Halen. What luck to have seen them in that setting. RIP Eddie Van Halen.
It was one of my greatest Christmas presents ever my mom working for Valerie's and or with Valerie's and I should say and me meeting Valerie and Eddie here in Delaware back in 1984 when Alvin came out and that was my big Christmas surprise all day long I was being a real Chuck where the hell is this big Christmas surprise and they're up visiting some family and friends and I just saw her and then all of a sudden come around the corner from I guess well anything around the corner was bedroom and the toilet so he was either in one of them rooms was one of the guitar gods and I got three very guitars and a blue meanwhile especially when I got to see them in concert with my mom who was invited backstage I'm off off the side and then I got these try to find some better friends cuz one picture I took with Eddie and baby Wolfie was close to 30 years ago or no 19 83 December Christmas time and then I received two Thanksgiving to go about a week to week and a half a picture of Eddie very and Wolfie growing up I don't know you know if her aunt got in touch with her because I got a letter and picture from Valerie when I was younger going through some hard times and how's big fan of Eddie's Daddy and Ace really you know to me you know my guitar guys definitely know love AIDS you know design in his own ax if that ain't an awesome tap you know I mean what can you say I need to just really put not in my stomach when I heard he passed and then a nauseating actual nauseating knot but it's a memory of being able to shake and not spend no 5 or 10 minutes talking to a very articulated spoken guitar God and how he explained in no way of playing guitar and notes and I could go on but the sound of Eddie and his guitar will always be around as long as we have radios and keep playing his music that guitar sound will be in the airways for many many years too from today.

Just watching Eddie Van Halen play his guitar solos, with a cigarette in the headstock, and the smoke going up in the air, with his long black hair, his fingers just flying up and down the fret board playing eruption, he just looked so cool. Always wanted to play like him. Was so innovative, and unique, there will never be another like him. He just made playing the guitar look so dam easy because he was just that good. We have lost a true rock guitar legend. RIP Eddie!!! You will be missed, but your music will live on. I bet heaven will be electric with your guitar tonight! Long Live The King!!!!!!!!!! Greg B
he has short blonde hair here but ok
With all the positive things said about EVH and his playing the one thing I don't see said enough is how cool Ed always looked , with the exception being the "Samurai hair" IMO, Ed could go on stage or just be in public and he always looked cool just being Ed.
Yeah and that cigarette smoking is what killed him!! It's too bad - he was a true legend in his own time. There will never be another like him again! I have the memories of him to live with until I get so old that I can't remember my own name.
@@benparsons4979 His hair was originally blonde as a child but as he grew older it turned a very dark BROWN - not black. He dyed it or what was called frosting at the time but only on the tips.

@@solomonlynn7456 Oh, that tired response..Hm..Okay personally I think Terry Kath (rip) eats EVH for lunch personally, tapping is a gimmick, nothing more ( 42 years of hindsight tells me that),if Eddie doesnt put "eruption" on that first album, that made everybody go apeshit for two seconds(which, btw a guitar player friend of mine, at the age of 15 at the time when this "solo" came out, figured it out in 45 minutes, yeah, real tough) he's not the "guitar god" everybody fawns over.Look, if he's your "hero" thats great..Have at it..But I like other guys better..I've been in plenty bands( I was a bass player) and played with enough Eddie wannabes that it got extremely boring .My motto: If you're a guitar player and have to resort to tapping during a solo, you've run out of ideas...Have a good day.. This will be my ONLY response.. I feel ZERO need to defend my comment further
I had documentaries about Rock and Eddie appears saying that when he was a teenager spent a lot of time practicing, his brother went out with his girlfriend and said good night to Eddie before leaving, then Eddie's brother returned and Eddie was still practicing early in the morning. Eddie said that his brother mocked him saying that he never went out, didn´t have a girlfriend, fun, etc. And finally Eddie said "When I became famous I had money, girls, fun, fine things, everything, all the things my brother told me I would probably never had"
Let’s be real here, even if he had gone to some parties in his teens things probably would’ve turned out the same way
@@LOLLYPOPPE I don´t know, people who practice like him are few, Jimi Hendrix used to go to the cinema with the guitar

I just found out min ago this hurts my heart to its core R.I.P to my favorite guitarist of my favorite Rock and Roll band of all time and one of my favorite people of all time a legend and an icon Eddie Van Halen 🎸.
4:18 gets me everytime
Unfortunately with my young age of almost 15 learning about how Eddie and getting into Van Halen 8 months before his passing I will never see him live. He is one of the bigger inspirations for me and guitar. At 0:47 you can see the audience (specifically the guy on the right side) just admiring being there watching one of the world’s greatest guitarists ever.
I saw him when I was 15 at the US Festival in 1983. One of the greatest days of my life.
@The Tru it was epic to see it live front stage.
Your comment is a year old but I do feel sad that you won’t be able to see him. I got to see him a lot. I got to be 3 rows right in front of him once and I can tell you, it was not just an awesome show just to see him, it was a very special experience to hear him talk, yell and all while playing. You can literally feel him when you’re that close. It was surreal. You were taken to another mental dimension hearing these solos live in person.
I seen him live in Vancouver. Everything you can think of and more. He was the only one out playing before the concert. I had vip tickets and some unbuyable swag. $680.00 a ticket. A security guard came and asked him to extinguish his cigarette as there was no smoking. He replied. " You do not make enough money and it is not worth your time" He kept smoking and played. Goosebumps I tell you. His son Wolfgang played that night. Replaced Michael Anthony. How do you do that? Talented bastard just like his dad and uncle! Didn't miss a beat.
@@chrisburnett8584 so Eddie simultaneously Jedi mind-tricked the guard and gave him exactly the wording he needed to use, if he was required to explain himself to his superiors 🤣

We didn't understand what Sammy meant by "A very special moment, Mr Eddie Van Halen" until now. Until now, we could go watch Eddie amaze us with these flawless solo's and amazing licks, with his seemingly simple ease.
God Bless EVH and rest in peace.
Actually, it’s David Lee Roth that said that, evidenced in the description. Roth rejoined Van Halen in 2007.
@KaidenHinton-ll9vi that is 100% Sammy. Two totally different voices.
RIP Eddie, you will be missed
Since his passing today, I will come listen to this often.
Eddie just doesn't play the guitar, he makes the guitar sing!! Awesome solo
lol it sings like Yoko Ono "sings" she screeched on record years before Ed screeched on guitar like this. F.
He's master level, even more so.
I swear I saw this exact same comment on a Jimi Hendrix vid
TwisterChrisable Great point! He actually plays melodies whereas a lot of guitarist just throw a lot of notes real fast. Eddie actually plays songs on his solos. So he actually makes the guitar sing. God bless you
You can tell which ones in the front are guitar players. Look at their faces. Completely in awe
The heavens will hear music like no other. RIP Eddie.
My parents were at this concert! I was lucky to see Van Halen when they came through in 2012 for St. Patty’s Day! RIP Eddie - Thanks for the many years of killer riffs, and tunes. 😭💔
This is my favorite version of Eruption live for many reasons. I also loved his set up from 91-95 to get that sound.
I started listening to Van Halen when I was 13, 55 now, never gets old, those guitar picks he just threw out in the audience are definitely worth something, RIP Eddie,
I also started listening when I was 13. I’m 15 now and I wish I was around for this.
“We'll get higher and higher
Leave it all behind” RIP Eddie 🖤🤘🏼
EVH set the bar so high that, in my opinion, it will take many, many years before anyone will come close to displaying the kind of innovation and creativity that Eddie did. He truly redefined guitar playing on so many levels. RIP sir, you will be missed.:(
Honestly, it’s never gonna happen again. There will never be the combination of technical proficiency with the brash, go fuck yourself, fuck the world attitude that we see here. Technical proficiency will always be around. There’s plenty of musical geniuses out there. But that combo of musical genius, with that attitude that says, I don’t give a fuck what anybody did before me or what anyone does after me, I’m gonna rip this shit. I think the fact he pounded down packs of cigarettes per day and still said in interviews “naw cigarettes aren’t bad for you, I got cancer from metal and copper guitar picks in my mouth”😂 there’s more to this human than musical talent and that’s what made him great. Not just shredding, shredding while simultaneously not giving one fuck what anybody thinks.
@@chrisezelle8876 I would agree with that
There may not be another Eddie but there are some really good innovative guitarists out there today you just gotta know where to look
Idk about that. There will always be somebody. Have you seen Tosin Abasi play? I consider him the EVH of the millennial generation.
Yeah, Guitar Gods don't come along very often.
I am so blessed to have seen him play live. I’ll cherish that moment forever
I'm so glad to have lived in the Eddie van Halen era!
Balance tour was an incredible show. Saw them that same year at the meadowlands in jersey, summer of 95… I believe it was July.
I saw them in 1982, 91, 95, 2007 and 2012. And his playing just got better and better every year.

Yep mine to, eddie not only played guitar in a superior way but he played every part of every guitar he picked up, he innovated which not many other guitarists did, a guitarist like jimi hendrix who is another one of my favorites but he played guitar how it was meant to be played, never really changed it, basic style, eddie created a new style and a complete new way to play, that's why in my opinion he's the best
In my lifetime, the best Guitarist I have ever seen live! Self taught too.
Yes...Self taught. Wasn't it George Harrison that said, and I'm paraphrasing, but "self taught means no bad habits to break"?
Unfortunately, I have had just enough guitar lessons to screw me up for the rest of my life. I don't think I "play" the guitar. I just masturbate a piece mahogany and rosewood and shoot my riffs all over the bedroom wall!
