I love everything that the Finn brothers have ever done musically. They’re incredibly talented. Another Split Enz song you should check out is “Six Months in a Leaky Boat.” By their group Crowded House, check out “Weather With You” and “Fall at Your Feet.” So much great music came out of New Zealand and Australia during the 80s and 90s. Check out Men at Work (Overkill is an amazing song), The Church (Under the Milky Way), Midnight Oil (Beds are Burning), Ice House, and just about everything by INXS.
Split Enz from New Zealand included brothers Tim and Neil Finn, the latter being the lead singer in this. He went on to form Crowded House. He is an amazingly talented song writer.
Awesome you reacted to this song, because I listened to their CD, The Best of Split Enz - History Never Repeats, just this morning! Split Enz was founded in the '70s by Tim Finn and Phil Judd. After Judd left, Tim's younger brother, Neil was invited to join. The band had many members and several line-ups; their earlier period included circus-like makeup and costumes. Other favorite songs of theirs are: Message to My Girl, Six Months in a Leaky Boat, Dirty Creature, One Step Ahead, and Give It A Whirl.
There is a group you might like from the 80's. This reminded me of them weirdly enough: Squeeze - 2 great songs off the top of my head - Black Coffee In Bed and Tempted By The Fruit Of Another.
Neil Finn and Tim Finn, brothers, started, Split Enz in the 70's. Neil Finn, who is the lead singer, went on to form Crowded House. He's one of our great pop songwriters. Check out History Never Repeats and Message to My Girl Great, great songs.
Great to hear you react to some New Zealand music! Tim and Neil Finn are absolute legends of NZ music. So many great songs, but here's a few of my favorites from their Split Enz days: Neil Finn: One Step Ahead, Message to My Girl, I Walk Away Tim Finn : I Hope I Never, I See Red, Dirty Creature Interesting fact: Tim Finn wrote 'Dirty Creature' about panic attacks we was suffering from at the time.
I love your reaction. I think that was probably everybody's reaction when this came out. I was in primary school at the time. Those Finn brothers were ridicously handsome and you were either a Tim girl or a Neil girl. I loved Tim. Still do. They were a band of phenomenal musicians and two brilliant singer songwriters. Just check out every Enz song. You won't be disappointed.
Couldn't get off the dance floor when this hit the states and immediately bought this and earlier 70s albums. Not too many of us caught on, but those of us who did loved this group.
Tbh Jay, that rocked me out as well. I remember this tune, as a young chap in England and going down to Bournemouth, on the south coast for a summer weekend, listening to this circa 1983 ish. Had a rocking time. Thanks Jay 😊
I love some Split enz, they're from NZ but also had enormous success here in Australia too & continued success when they disbanded in the mid 80s and became crowded house with some of the members of Split Enz. Must check out others hits like dirty creature, I walk away, I see red, Message to my girl, Tim Finns Made my day, Four seasons in one day
The LP had laser patterns cut into it, it was SO COOL LOOKING! The first I'd ever seen. And the production was amazing. I remember when we heard it, my brother shouted, "All right, Harmonies are back in!".
I saw them on American Bandstand back in the 70s and became a fan, then followed them when they became Crowded House. I still have a couple of their LPs. Great band.
This band was my first fan club membership and first concert! I still have a few vinyls, alas not the laser etched True Colours (I think my sister took that!). Check out One Step Ahead, Six Months in a Leaky Boat, History Never Repeats, I Hope I Never, Dirty Creature, Poor Boy, I See Red. So much behind most of their lyrics, they really were a band of excellence.
I have the laser etched one. i remember showing it to everyone and no one seemed too thrilled so I assumed it wasnt special. but now im thinking it might be?
@@WeirdAlpha That could be worth $$$ now as a collectible. A classic! Glad to see that it can still appeal all these years later. People are picking out some really great artists and tunes for you and your reactions are great, you get it, you've got the music in you! On that particular point... you should checkout New Radicals 'You Get What You Give' and 'Mother'. You can't fight the feeling, and you won't be disappointed.
Glad to see you getting into Split Enz. One of my favorite groups. Some other great songs by them are "Giant Heartbeat", "One Step Ahead", "Message To My Girl", "Hard Act To Follow", "Strait Old Line", and "Our Day." Another group I wish you would sample is the Divinyls and songs like "Boys In Town", "Take A Chance", "Only Lonely", and "Punxsie."
Split Enz/Crowded House had some fabulous music over the decades "I hope I never""Six Months In A Leaky Boat" and many others, and of course the perennial "Don't Dream It's Over"(which I think you've already reacted to). They also did an orchestral album that is really spectacular. Neil Finn and Crowded is still touring, if you look up his last live songs you'll be blown away by the well received beautiful music
With over 700 songs from the 80's on my Spotify playlists, i need to add this song which i never heard before. Unique sound & very different from many songs i heard in the past, but i heard about this band. Another unique song to react to is from The Passions "I'm in love with a German star" and one of my favorite songs of the 80's is by Ian Hunter " Good Man in a bad time".
The German band Kraftwerk paved the way for that Synthesizer sound, which was popular in the 80‘s. Their songs Autobahn, the Model, Tour de France and many more are still crisp.
Neil Finn, One Nil his first solo project is phenomenal, also Finn Brothers the project with his brother is phenomenal as well. Crowded House, Split Enz everything Neil Finn does is amazing!!!
Brilliant, you did a song from my Country New Zealand.... Split Enz were big in NZ, Australia, & Canada but never made it big in the US but their songs are worthy of US recognition. It came out on True Colours in 1980, the 12 inch LP record was all different colours to reflect the album cover. Massive technology 40 years ago for little ole NZ. Other great songs on the album were Poor Boy & I Hope I Never amongst others. Anthems down here.

There is a group you might like from the 80's. This reminded me of them weirdly enough: Squeeze - 2 great songs off the top of my head - Black Coffee In Bed and Tempted By The Fruit Of Another.
To me, I think the Squeeze comes through because they both have that power pop sound, but with great singing and songwriting.
Also Up The Junction and Cool for Cats!
Let's add Pulling Muscles From A Shell to the Squeeze list, please!
“Cool for Cats”! 💜💜💜
@@emmapeelpants up rhe junction one of the best songs ever written
Definitely try Split Enz:
Poor Boy: or
Dirty Creature
Both my favourites, for sure.
Split-Enz were awesome, such a great band!
The chorus is great.
Check out his 21 yr old sons song ruclips.net/video/jiIo26ardSs/видео.html
FINALLY!! I am glad someone is finally reacting to Split Enz! Great group with a lot of great songs.
NZer here,I grew up with this band, and they really were something else.Funnily enough, this was my fave SE song.
Neil Finn and Tim Finn, brothers, started, Split Enz in the 70's. Neil Finn, who is the lead singer, went on to form Crowded House. He's one of our great pop songwriters. Check out History Never Repeats and Message to My Girl Great, great songs.
Nope. Neil joined later. Tim and Phil Judd formed the band.
I'm curious, why did they break from Split Enz to begin Crowded House? Couldn't they just continue with Split Enz?
Great to hear you react to some New Zealand music!
Tim and Neil Finn are absolute legends of NZ music. So many great songs, but here's a few of my favorites from their Split Enz days:
Neil Finn:
One Step Ahead, Message to My Girl, I Walk Away
Tim Finn
: I Hope I Never, I See Red, Dirty Creature
Interesting fact: Tim Finn wrote 'Dirty Creature' about panic attacks we was suffering from at the time.
They were so young!
I've loved ❤ this song 🎵!! Thank you for sharing this amazing song 🎵 💜. I just wanna dance 💃 🎶.!!! Thank you!!
I just entered high school and remember this amazing tune.. I loved ever since... 1980
I still remember when this came out. AT 8 years old, I thought their style was CRAZY! Always loved the song - still do :)
I’d heard this song but didn’t know the name of the group, now I do. Nice reaction x
I just got transported back to my youth with this song. Played it a million times 👍
Big Pig’s Breakaway was another Australian hit. You might remember hearing it on Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure.
Neil Finn (the singer), is currently a guitarist and vocalist for Fleetwood Mac
40 years song.fantsstic song.you hear today and still great.thys make you think 80s was one of the must inovstive time for muzik
Tbh Jay, that rocked me out as well. I remember this tune, as a young chap in England and going down to Bournemouth, on the south coast for a summer weekend, listening to this circa 1983 ish. Had a rocking time. Thanks Jay 😊
I met Neil Finn many years ago after one of his solo concerts and thanked him for performing this gem of a song
Brilliant! Split Enz were amazing and some of the members went on to form another amazing band, Crowded House.
"Message to My Girl" - an absolutely sublime Split Enz track, fantastic video. "Six Months in a Leaky Boat" and "One Step Ahead", as well.
They brought out a number of different coloured album covers, the one we had was I believe the very first release - yellow background with blue border. I think this would be worth the most!! You should look it up! Back then, it was just a thing of beauty as it turned on the record player 😁
Their songs and hair cuts were cutting edge back in my younger years. Love their tunes..👌🏾✨
Back again to just say how much I love these guys.
Classic song writers. Pumped out the songs. Huge catalogue.
As an Aussie...these boys from NZ showed us all how it's done. Love Split Enz!
Another great song from the 80's ! Played alot on the radio back then!
Great reaction!
I’ve always loved the bass in the chorus! Fantastic!
Saw this band live in 1982 and they blew me away. Their opening band was a little known band that was about to break big in the U.S.- Duran Duran.
Another one of my all-time favorites! You've found another great group! ❤❤❤❤❤
Kraftwerk the model .......The band and song that began the 80's Synthesizer music ......MUST HEAR.
I love tour da france
The German band Kraftwerk paved the way for that Synthesizer sound, which was popular in the 80‘s.
Their songs Autobahn, the Model, Tour de France and many more are still crisp.
Neil Finn, One Nil his first solo project is phenomenal, also Finn Brothers the project with his brother is phenomenal as well. Crowded House, Split Enz everything Neil Finn does is amazing!!!
New Zealand’s gods of rock
Thank you sir! This song has a very special place in my heart as it’s one of the first songs I ever heard, and it’s one of my all time favorites
It is a great sing-along song when you are by yourself in the car and the other cars are sufficiently distant...
J, first laser etched vinyl record I ever saw and played at the radio station. Cool design
I have that album
“One Step Ahead” is another great one. I played these songs as a college radio DJ.... 40 YEARS AGO!!! Damn, I’m old.
Voices is one of my favorite songs of theirs.
I love the Enz and Crowded House. Have seen them both live and they were amazing. Had Message to My Girl at our wedding.
What a banger. So many feels rite now🤩
