This is the sound of my youth. I can distinctly remember these songs at parties and who I partied with. Being in my fifties, this is pure nostalgia. Thank you for showing such an appreciation for the music of the decade that made me into a person.
Grew up in the 80s and this brings back good memories. Even though I love heavy metal music from the mid 80s till now I still like a lot of pop from the 80s. Great video.
You are one of the first reactors i began watching. I love watching your excitement as each song rolled through. 70's is my favorite era but no one can deny the great music of the 80's. Nothing holds a memory like a song!!
Officially my favorite video you've ever reacted to! You knew the words & sang with almost every song. You had the biggest smile the whole time. The 80's were a blast! Thanks Jay!
These are my teenage years - I was 12 in 1980 - so much great music! If this was an Australian list, INXS and crowded house would definitely have been in there too.
That's a good age. I was only 4 in 1980. Wish I had been a little older, but my earliest possible memories at all are of music. I can recall only as far back as the halfway point of 80 when new songs were debuting. I used to like the songs "Rainy Night" by Eddie Rabbit, "Hungry Heart" by The Boss, "Arthur's Theme" by Christopher Cross and a lot of others. I can't recall actual events until I was about 5 (that's true w/ most people), but I do remember music because I had older sibs who lorded over the radio and TV and had MTV/radio on all the time and I, myself, would fall asleep after listening to a radio every night. So I got music pumped into my little brain like a prodigy.
INXS was big in the US, too. Don't Dream, It's Over is a great song to this day, but I don't know how well Crowded House stuck after that. I have old Vh1 docus on various 80s years and in the 1981 one that I re-caught a few months ago, the lead singer of Men At Work was talking about how the US market was the last one they had all kinds of trouble breaking into until they finally did and instantly blew up. Beds Are Burning by Midnight Oil was a hit in the States, too. Like that song.
Don’t dream it’s over - crowded house With or without u - U2 Drive - the cars The flame - cheap trick Together in electric dreams - Phil Oakley Sweet surrender - wet wet wet That’s when I think of you - 1927 Slipping through my fingers - ABBA Another day in paradise - Phil collins The promise - When in Rome Celebration - kool & the gang Higher love - Steve winwood Your the voice - John farnham True colours - Cindy Lauper We built this city - starship Dancing on the ceiling - Lionel Richie Holding out for a hero - Bonnie Tyler Footloose - Kenny loggins I ran so far away - flock of seagulls Little lies - Fleetwood mac Don’t you forget about me - Simple minds ^ All of these songs could have completed this list 😢 but nonetheless still a good vid 👌🏼
Out of all reactors to 80s bangers, your reactions are my favourite… it’s great that someone from younger generations appreciates all these classics I’m hoping that the ones you haven’t reacted to yet will be checked, guaranteed you won’t be disappointed
I graduated in 1986..!! The music and the quality of life was absolutely off the charts..!! I feel sorry for those who were not able to experience that decade..!!
Damn 83 was a phenomenal year for music....also the year I was born! It was also the year the 80s sound really took off...there was still a little bit of lingering disco era before that.
1983 was the best year for pop music since the rock era began in 1955. Pop music peaked around 1996 and has been precipitously getting worse ever since.
That is pretty wild to have so many iconic artists and hits ... the 80's were something else.So much diversity in music. If you ran today's top hits like that they would be all sound the same. Glad I grew up in the 70's and 80's.
This made me SO happy!!! The decade of my youth & watching you just loving it ❤ THANK YOU for having such a wonderful open mind to all kinds of music ❤
Aaaahhhhh the 80s!!! There will never be another decade like it music wise... I became a teenager in '81 and turned 21 in '89. It just doesn't get more 80s than that!!!!!
We definitely got some fantastic new romantic and synth-pop stuff that didn't make it to the states though. Like in America, Soft Cell and The Human League are seen as one hit wonders, but for us a lot more of their singles entered the mainstream. Going just by sheer quantity of amazing songs, the UK won the 80s in my opinion. We had the new romantics, the synth-pop, the new wave of british heavy metal, amazing R&B/soul singers like Billy Ocean, Alison Moyet, and Rick Astley, post-punk and goth music, and so on. It's like we had the best bands while the US had the most notable solo artists.
I forgot about the impact of these songs throughout the 80s, and the beginning of the amazing careers in music of Madonna and Whitney Houston, and when George Michael became a solo artist. It was one crazy decade with lots of great hits!
I was a teen in the 80’s , graduated in 1990 and all these songs were played at our homecoming dances and prom. The absolute best song at all of our dances was Thriller and we all got out on the floor and did the Thriller dance was the best time ever

1980s best decade of music ever...so glad I was a kid and teen during that time simply an amazing time for music, movies, and TV. I feel so blessed to experienced every second of it
Me every time Wham/George Michael appeared: “Yeah, you’d better be putting that thumb up!” 😂 But you did. Every time. And don’t feel bad, I lived through the 80’s and didn’t know some of those songs.
Yay George!!! ❤️ I think knowing or not knowing some of these songs depends on where you grew up. I’m Australian, in my mid 50’s and I didn’t know 3 of them. Also, very bummed out that Band Aid wasn’t included. ☹️💖💜
@@turdferguson400 I had the same thought as soon as the USA For Africa song popped up. In the UK I think it was #1 but in America it never quite got there.
It's crazy, the 80's were the real start of electronic music with affordable small production hardware that gave exposure to a bunch of indepedant artists. One-hit wonders, short lived careers or long term artists alike, the 80s are just full of instants classics of real artists that loved the craft outside of the money machine industry we have today.
Great List! I would have thought Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” and Soul II Soul’s “Back To Life” and like the entire Purple Rain Soundtrack songs by Prince (those released) would have been there. And where is Duran Duran!!!! However, I really loved this and I am so happy to have grown up listening to all of this music. Thanks for your reaction!
Batdance by Prince was from the movie ‘Batman’ starring Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Jack Nicholson was the Joker. He recommended Prince to do the theme song.
Hahaha Batdance by Prince always makes me smile...crazy tune, it's a rollercoaster of a song..... "Hey Duckie...let me stick the seven inch in the computer" is a line that will go over so many heads...it's worth a listen. Prince did the soundtrack for the first Batman movie with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson as the Joker. Lemon crush and The Future are my favourite tracks on that

A little bit of trivia in April 1981 the song "Shut upa your face" kept the fantastic "Vienna" by Ultravox off the number 1 spot, that makes me ashamed to be a Brit 😔. Loving you singing along you can't help it with these 80's tunes, it's great to see someone discovering these songs and enjoying them, while it brings back great memories for me, you can't beat the 1980's for fun music.

I'm blessed to have been born in time, for this music. In the 80s, PL was still behind the "iron curtain" but this great music still trickled through it.
The 80's were my day - age 15 to age 25. I'm shocked that maybe 5% of these songs I'd never heard of! Where was I? I listened to the radio every day! lol Such good memories and I'm so impressed how many you knew, young man! Love your reactions!
Thank you for this trip down memory lane from 5th grade until I was a sophomore in college! I still remember every word to every song. What a great reaction!!!
Being 6yo to 16yo during the 80's...it was all about MJ,Prince and Duran Duran for me...and my biggest regret is that i didn't get into The Police at the time it was happening...Got really into them in my 20's...Every Breath You Take Ruled back then...
This was a GREAT blast to the past! A 75 baby, I really began remembering all the ones mainly from 1983 forward. I had forgotten about that Glen Madeiros song and is instantly started singing! “Lady in Red” was about the singer’s wife I believe. You definitely should react to more Phil Collins and Genesis. And if you haven’t already, to “La Bamba” which always makes me think of the movie and “Ritchiiiiiiiiie!!!”
January 1980, I was going to turn 11 soon, Disco was fading and the music changed generationally. It was "our" music, not our parents. A great time to explore and discover our own music. This list is top songs of a particular month, but the 80s musically were vastly more comprehensive. Tons of hit songs and bands not even mentioned on this list. No Genesis, Janet Jackson, Simple Minds, Thompson Twins, The Boss, Run-D.M.C., Sheena Easton, Asia, Journey, Heart, The Pretenders, Pat Benatar etc. Great time for music.
I love seeing someone not from this generation and loving the 80’s. You have great taste😉 Glenn Medeiros’ version is really good. My parents used to karaoke “Lady in red” 🤣
I just stumbled onto this video and almost didnt view it because usually when young people react to what I think is the greatest decade of music is they just dont realize the impact has on music today! So many songs are sampled and young people think its original till they hear the right version and instantly fall in love with these classics. What I am impressed by is that a young man like yourself knows so many of these songs it makes me smile because not only did I introduce these songs to my kids now I get to introduce these songs to my grandchildren and just makes me smile because they love these classics also! Love this reaction cant wait to see more!! You Rock!!!
This took me from age 5 to 15, my formative years. So glad they were so diverse. I'm still sorry for buying Shaddup Ya Face, Ultravox's Vienna so should've been number 1 🥺
Your face when "Never Gonna Give You Up" popped up is priceless. It makes me remember the first video reaction I watched from you (for that song) and when Rick Astley started singing you were like, "What?!? Is that his voice?!?" Best ever. I was born late in the 70s, so the 80s were part of my whole childhood and I have a great connection to its music and movies. Although I've been a fan of Madonna since I can remember, there are lots of other great singers/songs who/which have a special place in my heart. Cyndi Lauper with "A Night to Remember" (by the way, Cyndi has never really had the respect she deserved as an artist), R.E.M with "The One I Love", Icehouse with "No Promises", Depeche Mode with "Never Let Me Down Again" and so many more. From the songs on this "most popular song" list, Lionel Ritchie with "Say You, Say Me" is definitely one of the best. Oh, and a happy surprise for me (I'm from Brazil) was to see Kaoma with "Lambada" among these songs. I remember this was huge back in 1989.
If you loved A Careless Whisper and One More Try from George Michael, then you’ve got to listen to A Different Corner. Yet another of his beautiful ballads. 🙏🏼
I was fourteen when the Eighties started and twentyfive when they ended... These were the songs of my youth... My life was pretty crappy then but looking back? Boy, I'd love to do that decade allll over again!
Thank you Jay, that was a great reaction video! It was fun to revisit my childhood memories (I was 4 in 1980, 13 in 1989). And I agree 100% with your "Thumbs up" list ;
"One more try" is a very bitter love song. Sung from the perspective of someone who still is hurt from the last relationship but are considering entering a new one (it is the musing of that consideration that is the song). Basically it is the lovesong for all of those that had given up on love altogether, bitterly accepted it, and then have the (mis)fortune to fall in love again... The "Teacher there is a thing I don't want to learn", what he doesn't want to learn is if "Teacher" loves him (once you hit a certain point of bitterness you consider the numbness of it all to be preferably rather than taking the strain and the pain all over again), by the third time this theme comes around (third pair rather) he decides to give love "one more try"
Damn this is like a chronological order of my childhood through my early teens. Every one of these songs were played at every job I ever had and played constantly on MTV. You couldn't escape them. I still to this day all these years later get tortured at work with these songs on a daily basis.

I'm so impressed by how many you knew! As a kid/teenager during 80s you knew almost as many as me. There were maybe 5 or 6 I didn't know.
Officially my favorite video you've ever reacted to! You knew the words & sang with almost every song. You had the biggest smile the whole time. The 80's were a blast! Thanks Jay!
mj dominated
@@AC-mp7cx He dominated children yea.
The 70s were even better,,
These are my teenage years - I was 12 in 1980 - so much great music! If this was an Australian list, INXS and crowded house would definitely have been in there too.
Me also
That's a good age.
Like that song.
hello libby from long island new york, i was also 12 in 1980, our teenage years had great music.
Same here! Loved me some INXS and Crowded House... surprised none of the Go-Gos' songs made it on the list.
80's was the happiest most uptempo era of music and movies
Don’t dream it’s over - crowded house
With or without u - U2
Drive - the cars
The flame - cheap trick
Together in electric dreams - Phil Oakley
Sweet surrender - wet wet wet
That’s when I think of you - 1927
Slipping through my fingers - ABBA
Another day in paradise - Phil collins
The promise - When in Rome
Celebration - kool & the gang
Higher love - Steve winwood
Your the voice - John farnham
True colours - Cindy Lauper
We built this city - starship
Dancing on the ceiling - Lionel Richie
Holding out for a hero - Bonnie Tyler
Footloose - Kenny loggins
I ran so far away - flock of seagulls
Little lies - Fleetwood mac
Don’t you forget about me - Simple minds
^ All of these songs could have completed this list 😢 but nonetheless still a good vid 👌🏼
Loved the 80s . This was the hay day for MTV so sad its gone. Thank you for bringing all these great times back to light.
Out of all reactors to 80s bangers, your reactions are my favourite… it’s great that someone from younger generations appreciates all these classics
I’m hoping that the ones you haven’t reacted to yet will be checked, guaranteed you won’t be disappointed
I just had a decade long flash back of my 20's. So many memories. Wow.
Interesting take as posted something similar. Feels like early 80's the 70's disco stuff still lingers before a definite 80's sounds comes into being.
I agree.... born in '71... also grew up with these songs. Brings back great memories...
@@rebeccasimantov5476 '69 here 💜
The 80's were such a magical time..
So nice to see you smiling so much and enjoying this music! Such a huge difference from when I started watching you almost 2 years ago!
Aaaahhhhh the 80s!!! There will never be another decade like it music wise... I became a teenager in '81 and turned 21 in '89. It just doesn't get more 80s than that!!!!!
As an kid growing up in the 80s UK ... this is the soundtrack to my childhood right here! So much nostalgia listening to this.
I worked at a gym that only played 80s music so this brings back memories
I forgot about the impact of these songs throughout the 80s, and the beginning of the amazing careers in music of Madonna and Whitney Houston, and when George Michael became a solo artist. It was one crazy decade with lots of great hits!
I was a teen in the 80’s , graduated in 1990 and all these songs were played at our homecoming dances and prom. The absolute best song at all of our dances was Thriller and we all got out on the floor and did the Thriller dance was the best time ever
Everybody wants to rule the world. Puts a smile on face every time. Indeed.
Every song is engraved in my heart forever. I'm so glad I was around as a teen in the 80's, I was 15 through to 25, Very special time with brilliant artists. Long live the 80's. ❤️❤️❤️
The 80s were the best decade for pop music! There were maybe 2 songs that I didn't remember vividly. And these were just the number ones for each month! There were so many more great ones!!!
You can get all these songs for free, you were born in the right decade
LOL LOL LOL
The 80s was like ten years of the guys who whogot caught li lipsylncking
1980s best decade of music ever...so glad I was a kid and teen during that time simply an amazing time for music, movies, and TV. I feel so blessed to experienced every second of it
Me every time Wham/George Michael appeared: “Yeah, you’d better be putting that thumb up!” 😂 But you did. Every time. And don’t feel bad, I lived through the 80’s and didn’t know some of those songs.
Yeah same here! 😂
Very well put. I love listening to A Flock Of Seagulls with "I Ran (So Far Away)".
@@MichelKulmann Wishing (If I Had A Photograph Of You) is their other big hit, also a great song.
I was born in ‘77 and this just took me back to my childhood. Loved it, thank you ☺️
1984 slapped, hard - man, I was 10 and have almost all of this still on vinyl 🙌🏼❤️
TRY 1976 and 1979,, Now they slapped just as hard
He recommended Prince to do the theme song.
ok, your ability to sing along with so many of these has definitely made me sub. you’re awesome 😃
This music is 42 years old and it's still epic ,I wish the same could be said about my old 80's child ass.i was born in the February of 1980.
Lemon crush and The Future are my favourite tracks on that
Ok I was born in 1979 I totally loved this video and all those great 80s songs this was definitely a trip for me down my childhood memory lane such a great time back in the day all of those great songs by those amazing artist honestly not go wrong at all with all of those great songs so much enjoyment
I was born in Dec 1979. This is the first 10 years of my life and I remember all but 1 (some disco track very early on)
Music from the 80's is the best! 💯
The 80’s was a great time. Awesome music, blockbuster movies, talented artists. It was the beginning of the internet. So many great memories
The internet didn't really get going until the mid 90's.
Same with the 70s Huge songs Bands from the 70s QUEEN ACDC THE EAGLES BOSTON TOTO JOURNEY AEROSMITH Just to name a SMALL SAMPLE of BANDS FORMED IN THE 70s
Best Decade of Music Ever
70s of course...
@@barry0709 I loved the 80's but the best decade without doubt was the 60's

After the 70's, LMBOOTYOFF 🤣
I was born March 20, 1969. These songs take me from 10 years old to 20 years old. Childhood to young adulthood. My goodness, what a time to be alive!! After 40 years, I'm glad these songs are still being appreciated today! 😁
Born April 23, 1969. Pretty much the same.

The 80s was such a great era for music 🥺
So did the 70s
This was such an awesome idea you had! I love how it starts with MJ. SO many good songs, some I did not know either though.
Definitely would love you to react to 90's, 70's, 2000, etc...
They had a breaking of all the Amadeus records on all the stations around me at one time!!!! Jockey’s HATED that song and people calling in requesting it!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤I was 80’s teenager!!!! Best times!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉
Oh my gosh, memories of childhood through graduation just came flooding back. 1984, 1985, 1986 were great years. Radio and MTV. Such vivid memories. I didn't realize Jay was a fan of Tear for Fears. Very cool. I really appreciate his commentary. Listening to music with him brings me joy.
I was born in 1985 and my childhood was music from the 60s, 70s and 80s. I love it! ❤
It's actually insane how many classic songs came out of the 80's
So glad that i grew up in 80s/90s, best music...
Born in 1969 and and I LOVE this recap of my musical timeline ❤️
I was in my 20's when the 80's music came out, LOVED them!! xx
Jay Great Reaction. You’re getting to know a lot of 80s music glad I was here to watch you discover them.😀👍❤️✌️🌼
I'm 50 and I forgot how good our music was! Good grief, what a time in music to grow up in!!
I love seeing someone not from this generation and loving the 80’s. You have great taste😉 Glenn Medeiros’ version is really good.
My parents used to karaoke “Lady in red” 🤣
The 70s were just as good EASY ,,
I just stumbled onto this video and almost didnt view it because usually when young people react to what I think is the greatest decade of music is they just dont realize the impact has on music today! You Rock!!!
Michaels meant he didn't want to learn about breaking up and getting a broken 💔
I guess the teacher is “life”
I was born late 80s so grew up a 90s kid but I would sit in front of the record player and play all my parents old records
This took me from age 5 to 15, my formative years. So glad they were so diverse. I'm still sorry for buying Shaddup Ya Face, Ultravox's Vienna so should've been number 1 🥺
me too my childhood was defined by these songs.
'Praying for Time' is another one that really showcases his voice and song writing ability.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HOW MANY 80s HITS U KNOW N ROCK TO. U r impressive. Thank u.
I remember Lambada being one of the most massive hits i've ever witnessed. . It was absolutely EVERYWHER for one sommer.
One of my favorites as well.
I was fourteen when the Eighties started and twentyfive when they ended... These were the songs of my youth... My life was pretty crappy then but looking back? Boy, I'd love to do that decade allll over again!
Thank you Jay, that was a great reaction video! It was fun to revisit my childhood memories (I was 4 in 1980, 13 in 1989). And I agree 100% with your "Thumbs up" list ;
Glad I have listened to all these songs when I grew up.
