Love the sound of a radial, whether it's scale, or full size. Nice landing without any major damage to the plane itself. Myself, I would have liked to have someone in the background helping, no matter how many hours I had on the controls.
That's a great sounding engine and suits the plane well. Sorry to hear about the engine damage. Sometimes you just have to "Tune people out"...you have your hands full enough when stuff like this happens. Fine looking plane, and good job getting it back down dead stick like that!
The pilot was very lucky to have an expert bystander just at the right moment to give precise instructions on how to land his airplane ("keep it flat", "gear up", "rudder! rudder! rudder! rudder!"). Had it not been for that valuable help, I'm sure the pilot wouldn't have had the first idea of what to do to land the airplane and it would have fallen out of the sky.
corisco tupi Hahaha my thoughts exactly. Last time I dead sticked I inverted my plane, gave it full left rudder and full right aileron then crashed. If only he were there to tell me what to do I might have saved it ;P
+DudeManBroMan Spotter is reminding R/C pilot the aircraft is in Gear Up flight. Pilot's First rule is fly the airplane, then begin emergency procedures. Good spotting, just like aircrews use CRM.
Love the comments from the "peanut gallery". Reminds me of a fellow who asked me why I was making CCW circles while flying my glider in a thermal. I told him I was right handed and he shut up. The pilot in this video knew his airplane and his capabilities, enough said.
Someone flying a beautifully built, sophisticated model worth thousands of dollars, probably doesn't need advice on what to during a dead stick landing. Geez. Hope the motor was repairable!
+falconeaterf15 Actually, in my experience, it was always the best builders that were the worst flyers. Clearly that will not always be the case, but it very often was. Very often the best flyers were flying some beaten up hack and practised their skills to the very edge and beyond without worrying terribly about crashing. But again, plenty of exception to what I found to be the rule.
You can recognize a great pilot by his takeoff and landing skills, and this guy's skills are superb! He exercises precise rudder control while advancing the throttle slowly, thereby minimizing the torque swing on takeoff, which would be substantial, given the torque output of a Moki 5 cylinder radial. His flight manuevering is smooth, controlled, and perfectly "to scale." He pulls up immediately when the motor goes south, to convert energy to altitude, and of course, he nails the deadstick while landing downwind/crosswind... And some blowhard in the pits feels the need to provide THIS guy with landing tips? Just one more reason I prefer to fly ALONE!
...................gotta luv the peanut gallery in the background....'rudder rudder rudder rudder'.........that was well handled as it was, good job you paid no attention to the 'experts':-):-) Nice model flown well:-)
The guy did a great job of a dead stick landing, the armchair pilots in the background are really annoying. if he would have crashed it, the 'experts' in the background would have said.. "see we told you more rudder.." Those guys that do that really suck.
Well, instead of the Rudder, Rudder, Rudder thing, he could have gone histerical and did the Six million dollar man thing"She's breaking up! She's Breaking up!
Fantastic model! I really like the way you've routed the exhaust. For me the more authentic the better. Probably the best I've seen, right down to the markings.
Don't bark crap from the pits, the level is already high enough on a engine failure. Let his co-pilot/spotter keep him focused and ONLY give info when absolutely necessary. Nice save and a very nice Corsair.
Landing a model is the hardest part, even under ideal conditions. I'm 58, have been flying r/c planes for 30+ years, but gave it up about 4 years ago when I crashed my beautiful Corsair that took 2 years and $3000 to build. I have no idea what happened, I had flown it successfully several times before. It simply stopped responding to control inputs. I believe the problem was either in the transmitter or receiver. It was a crushing loss, especially the two years I spent building it. Just not going to do it again.
Would be nice to know what happened there, no mention of the cause ?? The way the prop went into freewheel, tells me the crankshaft and the pistons have parted company. Not knowing the insides of the new moki 5, i know not how the connecting rods are fixed. It did sound expensive though, but a very nice save by the pilot, despite the idiot with the loud mouth barking RE-KIT in the background.....
Lovely sound to the engine, made it very authentic, and a brilliant dead stick save of a very nice looking aircraft. Talent to make and fly, the two don't always go together.
Sir. The flight of your aeromodel was very beautiful. Before the flight, on the taxiway, and also on the landing, the tires were under very high pressure. I believe that if you lower the tire pressure, the model will no longer take to the side, (like overturning). With the tire pressure lower, there will be a smoother twist of tire rubber in contact with the asphalt runway. I hope I have cooperated with you. Hugs here from the south of Brazil. Tanks, Walendowsky, Wilmar
I was watching your pride-and-joy and completely forgot about the engine failure, and (suddenly) it happened. It kept me on the edge of my seat for the rest of the video. I bit of entertainment (I had to press "like"). Good to see you got it down all right (and you only have one shot at it). lol well done
This was a great save by a great Friend and Pilot. Way to go Kenny Mac!!!!!!!! I hope it's all well and good. Hope to fly in formation some time with you and the corsair and my P-47.
One of these days someone will make a constant speed, full feathering, reversible propeller because you have come up with everything else. What a treat to see these!
I really liked watching the plane. It seems rather big and some bucks were put into that engine which sounded awesome! Good dead stick landing! Did you run out of fuel, or did you have an engine failure? What happened?
Nice job on the deadstick landing. Had a deadstick on a Corsair myself a few years ago. Managed to belly mine into high grass without any major damage too. It'll get the adrenaline pumping.
How slowly does this MOKI engine idle... is there perhaps a flywheel on it? This engine also has a beautiful sound.....I am an old RC pilot of 73 years old, I used to fly in the 70s and 80s and then had to stop because I could no longer move my neck due to Bechterew....and Of course you have to be able to look up and to the left and right with RC flying. My RC aircraft at the time included a Piper J3 Cub with a 3 meter wingspan, on which was a 1-cylinder 2-stroke MOKI of 35cc and a Graupner Bell 212 twinjet helicopter... I like watching these kinds of videos.
My heart just sank, thinking that stunning bird might be destroyed..... WOWZERS! What a great save. Glad you had enough altitude to get a good enough glide slope to pull it off.... GREAT JOB!!!!
1) A GREAT video! Got the good stuff left out a lot of the boring crap! 2) A GREAT dead stick! Hot thumbs there for sure! 3) What an outstanding model! A true work of art!
If you can walk away, it was a good landing. If you can use the aircraft again, it was a great landing. I'd call this an incredible one myself. GREAT job. Beautiful aircraft.
What people don't really understand is that you don't hear anyone when you concentrate really hard. I doubt the pilot even heard the guy trying to help him land.
You are absolutely right - I have had the same happen to me, and I had lots of time to turn the model, look around to make sure the runway was free, check the speed, lower flaps and lift the low wing, and feel for the runway - lots of time, and it wasn't till I saw the video that I heard the people yelling advices to me. And that lots of time was around 12 seconds.
These Moki engines have exposed push rods and been known to spit them out when revved. He was lucky to bring the Corsair back to the field unscathed for such a large model....
Considering there was no pilot in inside the cockpit, I thought the landing was very good! Seriously, that must be a heart stopping experience and I, for one, could not take it. All that work, dedication and money in the balance.
Beautiful job of building and certainly of flying - no question. Curious as to the cause of the engine out though. Thanks for posting, it gives me more inspiration to get in to my shop and get building.
sounded to me like maybe over-rev...gotta pull the throttle back in a dive...or due to fuel starvation, which then caused the over-rev as the last fuel was burnt in the chamber.
Awesome video brother you are a boss! Never seen anything as cool that radial engine in a rc (I fly helis) I have trouble getting back down when the power goes out and I don't need a runway! Top notch!!
The real radials sound awesome, like a big V8 but ten times more mean. The Caribou plane has two 2,000 hp 14 cylinder radials. And when it takes off, the sound goes right through your chest. In a YT video of the Ford Tri Motor (old plane) it has 3 x 450 hp radials. It was filmed from inside the cabin of the 1930's plane and... did it sound awesome when taking off! lol
No doubt! In the air though it revs too high and sounds like a V-8, but on the ground, idling or low power settings, holy cow! If only someone would build a scale constant speed prop to keep the RPMs down in the air!
Hey dddtong.... Any thoughts on what happened to the engine..... ?? Your comments will be important to know some details on the failure of the engine.... Thanks
I hope the guy telling Kenny how to use his gear up switch and rudder control reads these RUclips comments and realises he should just sometimes be quiet.
I did'nt realise at the time but i was holding my breath until it was down, realy nice plane but you were giving it the beans a bit to much, your a lucky chap..
The guy telling this guy how to land his plane and what to do with gear and rudder needs to be quiet. Looks to me like this fella is ultra capable of landing his plane, going by his existing skills. I know it’s a club thing, but sometimes telling someone with experience how to do their job is a tad annoying to hear. Kenny is thinking “Just shut up and fly your own plane”. I agree, the dude is under some pressure to bring in his expensive plane and he has to hear some idiot yelling in the background. If you're flying this kind of plane you know how to dead stick a landing!
the plane looks excellent. big bucks, time, skill went into this. a pity the engine failed. great sound and performance though. happy to see the pilot was able to glide to a landing.
So enquiring minds want to know, what did go wrong? Needn't praise the landing, you already know you did an excellent Job! More importantly what's the name of your pit dog and what did he have to say about the close call?
broken crank pin, the prop was freewheeling. The master rod wouldn't break, the others would bind the engine. This engine should have a redline cutout on the ignition, to prevent careless lean running.
Just conjecturing ... Maybe when doing hi-speed passes the pilot was running the engine above the spec RPM therefore causing internal damage ? Again, just conjecturing here.
Love the sound of a radial, whether it's scale, or full size. Nice landing without any major damage to the plane itself.
Myself, I would have liked to have someone in the background helping, no matter how many hours I had on the controls.
An aftermath engine reveal would have been educational.
Yeah like wtf?? Almost clickbait but not quite.
Yeah pretty lame.
That's a great sounding engine and suits the plane well. Sorry to hear about the engine damage. Sometimes you just have to "Tune people out"...you have your hands full enough when stuff like this happens. Fine looking plane, and good job getting it back down dead stick like that!
Oh my! That is one of the most beautiful looking and sounding RC planes I have ever seen : )

corisco tupi gear up?
corisco tupi never mind your right he did say that, i thought he said gear down it was down when he landed

Nice save to a very expensive plane. Your Corsair looks & sounds great! Hope you were able to salvage the engine.
The guy is wearing a Horizon Hobby team pilot shirt. I'm pretty sure he can take care of landing it himself...

WOW... THAT ENGINE SOUNDS GREAT!!

Jeremy Jamison
Yeah...got some of the same idiots at our flying field! I agree with you Jeremy...armchair pilots suck mud through a straw!
Every one at the field should wear a shock collar, and if they say something stupid and irritating, they should be given a friendly jolt to stfu
videoclipits now that would be hilarious...rudder guy would stutter rudder.....rudder
Geez there's nothing worse than someone shouting out commands ("rudder rudder rudder") when you're trying to concentrate on an emergency landing. :\
You got that right
Exactly. That's why you should have two spotters, so the one spotter can punch the other spotter in the mouth.
bogey19018 Hahahahaha, that made my day! :D
Well, instead of the Rudder, Rudder, Rudder thing, he could have gone histerical and did the Six million dollar man thing"She's breaking up! She's Breaking up!

Good job dead-sticking onto the runway. It was a real relief to see the gear withstand the ground loop too. Phew!
This was a great save by a great Friend and Pilot. Way to go Kenny Mac!!!!!!!!

Awesome, precise flying and what a brilliant recovery after a dead stick like that!
👍👍
That plane is so beautiful and one of the best sounding yet. I'm thinking, "no no no not another crash." Whew😓
I really liked watching the plane. It seems rather big and some bucks were put into that engine which sounded awesome!

One hell of a beautiful plane!

I wanna see the aftermath, nobody ever shows the aftermath...
He can't show youtube watchers him lock loading and BANG!!! That part was left out.
My heart just sank, thinking that stunning bird might be destroyed..... WOWZERS! What a great save. Glad you had enough altitude to get a good enough glide slope to pull it off.... GREAT JOB!!!!
Great save. Love the sound before the boom.
I am so happy you made that dead stick landing. Thats about $15,000 saved. Great pilot
Outstanding save, great to watch a good pilot save his aircraft. Hat tip Sir.
1) A GREAT video! Got the good stuff left out a lot of the boring crap! 2) A GREAT dead stick! Hot thumbs there for sure! 3) What an outstanding model! A true work of art!

Hey Dude! That plane's friggin bad ass! Nice recovery and emergency landing, too!
over rev the engine. they are not made to rev that high. got luckly to get it down and safe. good job on landing
nice save and great looking plane hope the engine was not damaged too bad
wow that is one beautiful plane. fantastic landing well done!
These Moki engines have exposed push rods and been known to spit them out when revved. He was lucky to bring the Corsair back to the field unscathed for such a large model....

Magnificent plane and engine sounded realistic. Good save too. Was that an in flight "break"-in?
Beautiful job of building and certainly of flying - no question. Curious as to the cause of the engine out though. Thanks for posting, it gives me more inspiration to get in to my shop and get building.

Beautiful bird and you did a great job there, did you find out how the engine failed? it sounded like it over revved.
Amazing deadstick control, shame about the motor. What caulsed it to stall?
Great Aircraft and good flying skills!
that is SUCH an AMAZING sound!!!

What do you know? Your a dog.
Justwantahover no actually the Caribou had 2 14 cylinder Pratt & Whitney R-2000's which were rated at 1450 HP for five minutes.
on the flyby it sounds like a 5 cylinder from an audi quattro(really good)
What exactly caused the engine failure? Did it overspeed, overheat or starve for lubrication? I'm curious..
Very nice flying, bringing her in w/o power.
Was too high rpm a factor? Wonderful sound and beautiful aircraft art.
Hey dddtong.... Any thoughts on what happened to the engine..... ?? Your comments will be important to know some details on the failure of the engine.... Thanks
Surprisingly it held together as long as it did!
Would have like to know how the engine failed. Crankshaft? Piston? Curious minds want to know.
I hope the guy telling Kenny how to use his gear up switch and rudder control reads these RUclips comments and realises he should just sometimes be quiet.
thank god he never listened the ones talking to him at the back...will be 100% for sure crash
Excellent landing
The sound in these are above amazing!
Great save on the landing.....but was the Moki being over-revved? It was ripping that prop on almost every pass.
Sounds like he definitely over revved it... Expensive learning curve lol.
How many rpm is that, like 4,600? Was it over revving when it blew? Sounds like it is spinning faster than most other videos of 250 cc radials.
Amazing realism and smooth performance...
Very nice that u brought it down in 1 piece
What a spectacular sound.
Yeah great save, but what happened w engine. It was almost instant lock up. Glad plane made it down in one piece- Great flying!
nice landing, wish he would make another video on tearing down the motor and finding what broke
sucks he ground looped after getting it back down safely with all the expert advice behind him...
I did'nt realise at the time but i was holding my breath until it was down, realy nice plane but you were giving it the beans a bit to much, your a lucky chap..
Amazing plane, astonishing realism. To bad it had to go down like that. Thanks for sharing
That is one of the most beautiful models I’ve ever seen
i know opinions are a dime a dozen but that thing sounded way under propped
So between us we got 24! And I agree with you. Prop tips were going supersonic, could have used a little more pitch.
Sounds healthy enough to me, why did it fail? Just curious,.
Brilliant sound, thanks.
Congratulations for this emergency landing !
But what happened to the engine ?
The guy telling this guy how to land his plane and what to do with gear and rudder needs to be quiet. Looks to me like this fella is ultra capable of landing his plane, going by his existing skills. Kept calm, and got the bird back down safely, well done, lovely plane

AMAZING!!!!
What a pilot!
Awesome model, and a great save on the dead stick landing!
$7500 engine, Hope they warranty
Great job bringing her home, beautiful
wow that is an amazing plane
To me it sounded like the engine was at too high an RPM, but I'm not knowledgeable enough with these engines to know for sure.
Thank heavens the pilot was able to save the plane.
Just conjecturing ...
Maybe when doing hi-speed passes the pilot was running the engine above the spec RPM therefore causing internal damage ?
Again, just conjecturing here.
Absolutely beautiful save of an equally beautiful airplane \ engine combo. Well done.
How much do one of those engines set you back?
