- One Chicago Cubs fan has waited 71 years to return to Wrigley Field to watch his beloved team. Jim Schlegel, 97, was at the last World Series appearance of the Cubs in 1945 when they lost to the Detroit Tigers. Schlegel had just gotten back from serving his country in World War II. He's a Pearl Harbor survivor and still has the ticket stubs to his last Wrigley appearance. Schlegel and his son, Bill, attended the game right from the front row. #InsideEdition

-Saw Cubs in Two World Series
Lucky... Someone get this man a lottery ticket.
Lol
Survived being a WW2 soldier too.
j3m1f8 hell yeah
Ive seen the cubs play in two world series
D Mills he probably won’t need it with the luck he has he’s probably gonna live forever
This mans life is finally complete
He dies one day later holding his ticket stub, smiling
Good on him who would have fought he'd still be around long enough to witness the cubbies 71 years later in another World Series and finally breaking the 108 year drought. Amazing stuff and I just wonder how he was holding up when it was 9-9, the rain delay then the 10th inning. I'm sure it was Heaven for him. C'mon cubs back to back.
Wait really?
Vampirerockstar This man’s life is not complete
Not yet Maybe he can get stubs for 2035
This guy is literally history
Manny Salazar wdym?

This is a story worth watching. This man's quote summed it up. God bless Mr. Schlegel, and on behalf of so many others, thank you for your service, sir.
CONGRATS CUBS!! No other team deserved it more then you! I'm a New Yorker and I've always loved the Cubs! I wish I could afford a plane ticket to come and celebrate with all of you Cubbies fans in person but sadly I can't. Enjoy every minute of it because you never know when they'll win again! My English teacher dad was born 1909 and died 2015 a year after they won and a year before they won it again. He was a big Cubs fan felt bad when she told us
jesus christ 106 years old
The brother of my mom's mom lived for 111+ years or more I think
Imagine him realising he's probably one of the only ones left from that 1945 game
He probably knows that
Still alive at 101 years old, what a legend.
This man was a fighter, so were the Cubs when they broke that 100 year drought, and so were those men and women who fought for their respective countries. Past or Present
I'm a Tiger's fan, and usually pull for the American League team, but I had to pull for the Cubs on this one...Great job, and got to see a historical moment in sports.

Thats true when your physical body is that old you never know how much time you have left until you transform into a spiritual entity or ghost (pass away in a nutshell).
God Bless Him!!!! We need more people like him in the world. He deserves more than this game!!!
Thank you SO SO MUCH for serving our country HOPE your life goes AWESOME

This whole video was just heartwarming!
To think this guy is probably the only person alive at this moment to have seen the game in person makes this video that more historic

so happy he got to see this!! ♥️
Man God bless that fan he been waiting that long win or lose he still watched it with a smile
Wow I bet he wishes a lot of his friends could’ve lived to see that...live long buddy
This is enough to make a grown man cry...
It was a special year for the people in the City Of Chicago. Will never ever forget that season as long as I lived.
Now THIS is a baseball story and a truly American one at that. For 150 years this country has gone through so much change and reinvention, but PTO baseball has remained a constant connective thread throughout all that time. I’m a fourth generation Red Sox fan myself and my great-grandfather passed just weeks before Carlton Fisk and the 1975 WS. At 10 my grampa and I watched with sadness as the 1986 team blew their chance in game 6. The old man got to see them win it all in in ‘04 though only to pass away the following summer. He, like this gentleman was a soldier in WWII. Baseball is as much a link to our past as anything in this country. We go to watch grown men watch a child’s game an hang on every moment.
That’s some dedication
I am happy for Jim that he lived to see the Cub's win the World Series.
Godbless man this gave me chills in a good way
Not a Cubs fan but I feel super happy for him! And thank you Jim for your service!
