Randall, I appreciate you have a unique style for devlogs and seem to be fully embracing it, but for what it's worth I miss your old (also unique) chill vibes style with all the scenic footage and chill music!
You have great game design practices! Prototyping and polishing the prototype later is a great way to make sure your functionality works first before you get too deep into it and have to restart because you missed something you might have needed/wanted.
The inventory system should be based on how cumbersome things are, instead of weight. You can carry two handfuls of flint pieces, but you can only carry at most two logs. Or you could carry a log and a handful of flint. What's more is you wouldn't need UI, just animations for the character picking up items and filling up his arms.

Yo, had a random thought at 2 am about what the core game loop could be. Its primarily built around gathering resources to make spells. Each spell is shown as a colored crystal that hovers around the player and breaks when the spell is used. This would be an easy indicator of what spells you can use with out the need of a pop up menu. Your sword, which is upgradable is the primary attack and spells serve to aid that attack. Though some spells are dps driven or inflict effects like poison, burning, or regeneration to the player or enemy. The majority of them should be focused on mobility and setting a sword attack. A fairly common or cheap one being a warp that can quickly brings you in and out of range of your opponent. Another could be a large concussive blast that spaces you from hordes of small enemies or interrupts a large foe's attack. Variations on that could be more focused rather than AOE or specifically for guard breaks. That leads to strategies on which spells to bring to fit your playstyle and best counter your opponent. Not to mention it would add to the replayability of the game. Different spells may add on to each other like alchemy in a dynamic and predictable way further raising the skill ceiling for the game while still being accessible to more casual players.
