Come alone with us in this short video as we approach KLCI Laconia Municipal Airport in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire on a beautiful Friday afternoon. We encounter distracting radio traffic as well as a couple traffic alerts as I fly a high performance approach into LCI.
High performance approaches involved application of pilot techniques to manage airspeed, pitch rate, bank angle and energy management in order to configure the plane for landing and touching down inside the touchdown zone of the runway, at an appropriate airspeed, on centerline and with a nice and smooth touchdown. Of course, managing the rollout on and exit of the runway at an appropriate speed are also important.

That was a fun video. Love the music to it. I miss the private charter days and watching your videos brings back so many great memories. Have a great weekend Don.
Glad you enjoyed it
Like the dramatic music, nice touch! Like watching a movie!
@@ProPilotPete Thanks PPP!! It was a fun approach.
Fantastic approach and landing, brother! That was definitely textbook! I want to be like Dan when I grow up!😅😅😅
Thanks Russ! You’ve been pumping out videos! I’ll have to find some time to come to the Philly area to meet you.
Great short approach, Don. You put Patti to work on that one looking for traffic, too!
Thanks Matt! She’s pretty good at spotting.
When your woman says you did a good job you just say thank you and put your hand on her thigh and smile you big goober! Nice landing by the way! LOL
Thanks for watching!
Not quite a stable approach, more like an Oshkosh approach! I have flown into Laconia 26 many times, if you turn before the mountain, its pretty darn tight, if you turn after the mountain (and over the lake) its a very long drawn out approach. Neither a great choice. Great video, thanks for sharing.
@@brettwest549 I’ve flown the 26 pattern probably 150 times. I was based there for years. Very familiar with it. You need to understand the requirements for a stable approach before saying it wasn’t.
What definition of a stabilized approach allows for a 30 degree bank at 300 AGL, getting a “sink rate” alert, and being 15 knots fast over approach end of runway?
@@brettwest549 This was described as a high performance approach not a perfect approach. There is always room for improvement, but there are several accepted definitions of a stabilized approach. That being said, the turn to final was on centerline, slowing to VRef, without overshoot and touchdown was smooth, on centerline and within the touchdown zone. We practice what is referred to as a high key maneuver that is basically an exercise in aircraft control and energy scheduling.
