Iceman know his stuff. You can't rush perfection. One of my main homeboys is an awsome detail man. I nicknamed him Shine at work because he is the most skilled and absolute OCD driven detail men I have ever seen. Iceman will tell you that people will pick a detail job to death and everyone want a $10.000 detail for $25.00. I'd like to see some sponsors step on board and help Iceman out with some detail products. Those aluminum bars are not cheap nor are the pads and the buffers. Someone drop a hint to some of the sponsors or this post could make a great sponsorship opportunity. That truck would make many a driver happy to drive after all the mechanical work your putting into it.

You're doing an awesome job bringing that ole girl back to life. I was a former Cummings Diesel mechanic and see something you might be aware of. These were great motors but had some weaknesses. I saw some streaking down the block between the 2 & 3 heads. The rocker box shaft orings were prone to hardening and leaking causing these streaks and are easy to replace. Another problem (much worse) is coolant leaking from under the heads. The upper block counter bores on the 350-444 hp engines would crack from the higher hp stresses. Cummings has a field repair fix back in the day of machining the counter bores beyond the counter bore cracks and then installing new counter bore insert sleeves. If it's the counter bores leaking you'll see coolant leaking from under the heads after a hard pull. Coolant will remove the block paint down to the bare metal where as oil will not. I see where your front accessary drive front cover seal might be leaking. Sometimes it's just the seal and other times the thrust is bad in the acc drive. You can check the thrust with an plastic hammer and a big pry bar. Take the hammer and hit the acc drive pulley all the way rearward and then take the pry bar in between the acc drive pulley and the front cover and pry forward. If the thrust is bad you'll have more than .030 play, IIRC. I always loved these Navistar chassis to perform engine work or an inframe.

He should add oil to the fuel, if he uses our current fuel with that older engine he will have injector and pump problems.
I would add half a gallon of cheap oil to each tank, then at least one quart at each fill up. Or use Lucas fuel injector cleaner, it adds lubrication for pump and injectors

Agreed, back in the early 90's when the government mandated a lot of sulfur removed from diesel, we went through a lot of fuel pumps.

If you can't secure the hoses off the frame by using factory equipped standoff brackets u can use frame clamps that push or can get hammered onto the frame & then u can either zip tie them or use 1/4" hardware with cushion clamps to secure everything.
