Our 2004 Pilot EXL has 373,000 miles on it. Original engine, transmission and radiator. We've replaced 2 $50 transmission sensors at 150 and 250,000 miles. Everything else it needed was maintenance related.
Awesome! That’s great.
Have you ever had a valve adjustment on your pilot?
Also what were your symptoms you needed new transmission sensors?
05 Civic, bought new, 280k miles. 1st oil and filter change at 1100 miles, again at 5000 miles and each 5000 miles thereafter with Mobile1 5w-20 and Mobile1 filter. Replaced cam sensor, a couple of timing belts, manual tranny oil changes, new radiator and wheel bearings. Still runs great.
Awesome, love to hear that.
Great to hear that! Have you encountered any issues with the steering?
Excellent advice for keeping a Honda/Acura for the long haul. For the most part I’ve followed this advice and have easily run my Hondas close to and over 200k miles.
👏
Great tips. I'm happy to report I follow all those guidelines. When the maintenance minder reads 40-50% I book my appointment!
I’m all about it, nice job 🙌
I had to replace a left front axle seal, and the dealer found that the C clip had worn down, leaking transmission fluid. They were able to locate the replacement clip from another dealer at no cost to me. This is my 2012 Acura TSX Wagon with 81k on the clock. Your suggestions for fluid and oil changes are excellent for anyone who wants to enjoy a 'runs-like-new' Honda vehicle. Thanks for your excellent info.
Thanks for sharing!
Great tips! I followed a similar maintenance approach with my previous 2007 V6 Accord, which I sold in mid-2023 after 16 years and 175,000 miles. During its lifespan, I replaced the radiator and radiator fan in 2013. starter in 2017 and the compressor in 2019. Around 140,000 miles, I encountered a main seal leak and some minor leaks that weren't major, so I postponed fixing them for a while.
My transmission held up well for 16 years and 175,000 miles. I replaced the transmission fluid yearly, regardless of mileage (averaging 10-15k miles per year). Interestingly, the transmission failed 3-5 days after I sold the car to a friend (there were some signs, on very, very rare occasions, I would experience a slip or a bang when shifting to reverse at a cold start and, of course, I told him about that). He fixed it for $1,000. I'm impressed with the transmission's longevity, given its reputation for problems in this model.
I have a 2019 Odyssey now and am planning to follow the same maintenance schedule.
Did you ever get a valve adjustment on your accord ?
No, I don't recall that I have done valve adjustment. I didn't know about it until I watched the channel here, TBH. It might be worth noting that in my first 6-7 years (up to 80-90k), I used to do all the maintenance in the dealership and normally approved what they recommended, so there might be a chance that it had been done during that time.
This is a very informative post! I also have a 2007 Accord V6, and owned it since brand new. 166K miles now. Also have a minor main seal leak, and leaking power steering rack that got a little bit bad. Poured Prestone stop leak into it and it stopped the leak entirely, I was impressed. The power steering pump also started leaking but was easy to access and replace the seals. I've also been changing the automatic transmission fluid every 15 - 30K. Starter was replaced at 120K. Transmission bangs into gear when shifting from P to D or R, but I feel like it's done this since new. Replaced the timing belt and water pump myself at 110K miles. Never did a valve adjustment, but it's starting to clatter on cold mornings. May have to do it soon.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Sometimes timing works in weird ways.
@@dknight211 your right about the slight banging when switching drive gear directions even when new.
Totally agree with all that.. i have always over serviced my cars...'an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure'...
🙌
Solid advice, thanks! Also certain oils like Mobil 1, Valvoline and others have an 'extended' version that claim 20k miles of protection. Please ignore that nonsense. Your recommendation of 3-5K miles (and a quality filter) is the way to go.
💯 thanks for the support!
I use Mobil 1 extended miles for 15k but I still change it at 3k. People tell me I’m throwing away money but just ignore them 🙃
@@aito8467 I agree max I would push would be 5k but hat would be on a stock car that I don’t abuse which isn’t my tlx 😅. $100 extra in oil a year isn’t going to break the bank and if it does then that individual has bigger problems.
I have 246k miles (394k km) on my owned since new 2006 Civic. I do follow the maintenance minder, but its a 2006 maintenance minder so it might not be stretching the maintenance as much as today. It tells me to do the oil change around 5000 miles. The engine runs fine. It consumes about 2 quarts of oil per oil change interval. I check it and top it up every 20% on the oil life. I expect the car to get near 300k miles before I send it to the junk yard (due to rust). If I had a new generation Honda, with a longer oil change interval, I would probably do the oil 50% and 100%.
Great insight and your right the maintenance minder was way more aggressive on the older vehicles, thanks for sharing and come back once you hit your goal 🙌
Rust is what kills cars where I live. Annual rust proofing is the easy solution. But I've learned the hard way that floor pans can rust out from the inside. The preventative action is to lift the carpet, remove any sound deadening that has separated from floor panels, and remediate any rust that has started. The sound deadening material is a particular concern because if it separates then it traps moisture and that's where the floor rusts through. This is something I'd do on a 8 year old plus car that I intended to keep to end of its life.
Love the insight and something most of America including myself might overlook since that’s not really the case here but any northern state and for sure Canada should have an annual rust proofing plan.
Same in the UK, the chassis gives way to rust before the motors do.
@@mickl8212 do you guys over there do any preventative anti rusting measures as well?
@@BCautosolutions I do now. I cover the underside of our cars with Lanoguard every year

2006 Honda Civic 2.2 iCTDi diesel, bought on 76k miles, ran to 227k miles in 12 years. Changed the oil using 5w30 fully synthetic, annually at 12.5k miles. Engine clean inside (I had to have the sump off at 227k due to a cracked sump). Cam chain fine, looked new.
x2 Honda Jazz ran for years, never had reliability issues, followed Honda service schedules.
Integra Type R DC2, owned since 2007, on the road, followed Honda service schedules. Never missed a beat. Retired from daily driving when I bought my 2.2 Civic above, did oil changes after every trackday.
Never had an issue with any of our car's engines following Honda's service schedules. Always used supermarket fuel.
Maybe you guys in the USA have poorer quality oil and or fuel? Maybe your climate is more severe?
3-5k for an oil change is not a lot of miles.
Could be a lot of factors for sure, 12k oil change intervals here will not end well. Thanks for sharing!
I had a Honda accord 267,000 miles would of kept going it it wasn't in a wreck. Now I have Acura tsx 2010 162,000k runs like a clock
Awesome, thanks for sharing.
06 TSX with 265k. Burns a bit of oil between services, but still running strong!
Me of the last solid ones. Burning a little bit of oil isn’t really shocking at that mileage. Thanks for sharing
Solid video. I'm aiming for 300K miles to get the full value out of the car. And doing the maintenance myself way before the maintenance minder sugguests. The oil life usually still says 70% when I change it after 4,500 miles. Its a hybrid
Maintenance is key! I change the oil on my cars at 3k and the minder is usually right around 70k as well.
@Hondamobilemechanic It will be dope if you can get past 200K on the TLX trouble free. Since you said you sometimes drive it aggressively. Thats a badass car
@@Aaron-eb2cd thanks and it’ll take me a while I’m only averaging 12k a year lol
My 02 6th Gen Accord coupe had 180 when I bought it. I had it for 2 years maintained it had 207k miles before I sold it. I have a 13 accord LX with 110 now. I bought it with 80k miles. 5:28
Awesome! Those 9th gen accords are solid.
Absolutely. My moms 2000 accord 4 cylinder hit 245k before the trans went.
My 04 tsx hit 180k smoothly before i sold it. My 12 tsx 6 spd hit 175k before a deer totalled it. I know they would’ve hit 200k easily they ran like butter, I maintained them well. But i may have an advantage over most since im a former honda/acura tech.
Nice, take the knowledge and use it.
Great video, i also follow you on ig. I traded in my 06v6 accord with 160k everything was original. Took care of it and had all maintenence done..bought a brand new 21 accord sport 2.0. My 1st turbo im doing oil changes 5k, trans fluid changed at 32k, my brake fluid will be done when i get in for next oil change ..eventhough im stock i use 93 always since off the lot..also upgraded upper torque mount to 6mt metal one.
awesome! Nice job on the maintenance and the upgraded tq mount 💯
I try and get fuel at Costco and only get 93. If I can't get Costco, I make sure I get top tear fuel. The upside of Honda 1.5T is that it's still better than Kia's Theta II or the Northstar v8.
True story 😂
Damn that a crazy maintenance! Timing belt 😮
Yep
i’m rocking 95 Civic at 210k miles.
The golden era 🙌
I have a 2016 Accord Touring with 72,000 miles. Today the car decides to not turn off completely. The engine will cut off but the touch screen stays on and plays music. The car starts up fine and drives. What could be the cause of this? I’ve disconnected the negative side of battery until I can figure out a fix.
If it’s only the radio I would think it’s the radio itself.
Yup my 09 civic is at 278k third owner
Probably the best generation civic, great engines and trans.
My sister has a 2007 CR-V with 280K miles on it. The only main issue is that it consumes a quart of oil every 1000 miles, which is fairly common on these older K24 engines, especially when the miles pile on. Other than that, the CR-V still runs strong.
Run 5w30 it will slow it down if not fix the problem. I had the same issue with my 08 crv .I changed to 5w30 problem was solved and change the pcv in the front of engine
280k is nothing to sneeze at, congrats on that.
@@pilot2020 💯
All the k24 engines that I worked on all ran better on 5w30 .timing chain even sounded better on cold start and after warmed up.the engine ran more smoothly and offers better protection on the k24 .those engines are bullet proof those engines were made to last
@@pilot2020 💯
I can’t seem to find much help online about this particular issue. The car not wanting to cut off completely, only the engine cuts off but radio still gets power. 2016 Honda accord touring.
Even after you open the drivers door the radio will stay on when locked and everything?
@@BCautosolutions Yes. I believe it’s something with the radio itself like you stated. The previous owner looks to have had after market speakers. The cables are to still hooked up as i see them running out the back into the trunk area. The issue has stopped after I opened and closed the trunk. It’s been about 6 days no issue. I wonder if it has something to do with me loading things in the trunk that started the problem.
@@svtrunnin501 yeah sounds like whatever the issue may be was caused by the aftermarket audio in that case. If you narrow down the issue come back and lets us know 👍🏻 good luck.
@@BCautosolutions Will do. Thanks alot
2020 Acura ILX Base, ... I can rant for hours about it not coming with manual transmission but I'm stuck with the car. The only issue I have is the auto breaking safety nonsense. Yesterday I was making left turn, only one car ahead of me, no oncoming traffic and yet the damned car made a decision to brake "thinking" that I am too close to the car ahead. Another situation, just driving 25 mph and the road is weaving to the right a bit, car is parked there - nothing abnormal and the system goes crazy again. I hate the fact that I have to disable this option every time I start the car unlike the lane departure mitigation that stays turned off...
Is there an after market valve cover for the K24V7 that is aluminum made because this plastic crap is very annoying looking?
Thank you for your time, good channel 👍!
Thanks for sharing and I hear your frustration. The sensing system still has some kinds in it and hopefully can get sorted out via software updates. Unfortunately I don’t know of any aluminum valve covers either.
For the cold starts I think 1 Bar is to long, just ads to the dilution issue on short trip cars, not so much on hi-way driven daily. . If its cold -10c to -35c witch I get to see a lot up here and its plugged in, 10min and go, but go easy as the engine will warm up faster under a light load. And since most of of here are doing Oil changes every 6-8k(KM) the oil will be in good condition for those cold starts. It varies so its just my opinion for up in the north. Most of my Honda's get to see 400-500K ( KM ) so I must be doing something right, as for my 2018 Si... not so sure yet :)
For sure have to be mindful of your environments, travel habits, and maintenance. Very valid points.
I can’t thank you enough, Thank you!

I’d like to keep my ‘23 Accord Hybrid for 8-10 years, so I plan 5k OIC. Agree? I know HV battery will be a matter in 6-7 yrs.
Too early to tell and hopefully we can get 10+ years out those batteries.
Great tips! Have you found out what VINs for the 2016 Pilot and 2019 Ridgelines are affected by the V6 recall yet?
No info available yet.
Hey you should upload a video on how to replace an oil pan gasket on the 3.5 v6. I can not seem to find any and I don't want to pay dealer $600 for it.
When I get the chance I will.
I have a 2018 Honda accord 1.5L turbo touring sedan (bought used w/31k miles). I have 77k now. Changed transmission fluid about 35k…new tires as needed. Oil changes @ Honda every 5k. Mother issues but CAN U PLS EXPLAIN ABOUT FLUSHING BRAKE FLUIDS..and when?
Brake fluid should be every 2 years or 30k miles.
Hey great video as usual, wanted to ask regarding timing belt do i need to change it with the whole kit to save labor? or just the belt is enough? "Timing Belt KIT | Water Pump T-Belt kit | Engine Kit | Timing Seals Cam Crank | Crankshaft Camshaft"
On the v6 timing belt, water pump, drive belt(s). I’ve never seen a cam or crank seal leaking although if your oil pan has oil that means the oil pump is leaking and should be addressed at the same time.
Great channel for Honda/Acura owners.
We own Honda accord 2023 EX 1.5t. What brand of oil and oil filter do you recommend. Will Mobile 1 extended performance 0W-20 every 5k miles with FRAM Tough Guard a good combination?
Thank you. Yes; I believe that would be more than sufficient.
5,000 miles on synthetic? I’d recommend oil analysis. Period.
Ok, im going to recommend to change it.
I've done two oil analysis on an old Civic at around 5k miles. Pennzoil gave me their Platinum Ultra oil and two free analysis for before after oil. The before was a local (Canada) store brand synthetic (which I think is made by Shell) and the after was Pennzoil Platinum Ultra (also made by Shell). They were both fine and indicated that the oil had more life in it. That was about 100k miles ago. I've used Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage since then. Now at 246k miles, and the engine runs great.

My 97 civic rusted too much to pass an inspection at 206k miles. I replaced the original clutch at 142k. The new one was starting to slip before scrapping it. I drove like an asshat at the end of its life 😅.

this is where VW owners go wrong. following VW recommended service intervals, but also pushing past them. in this day in age with turbocharged small displacement owners 4K oil change intervals is imperative.
I couldn’t agree with you any more 👏
Do you know what changes they made to the transmissions for the v6 accords going from the 7th gen to 8th gen ?
I don’t know the specifics. 8th to 9th gen was more obvious due to an added gear which changed the transmission completely
thoughts on valve adjustments i have done spark plugs, water pump and timing and aux belt and tensioners but not valve adjust v6 15 accord
Same question here. I have seen many owners have high mileage engines and never get a valve adjustment
Yeah I’d recommend around 100k although I have seen vehicles 200k+ without one being done.

Appreciate these videos. I have a 2015 Honda Cr-v Ex with 110k miles. Running perfectly and well maintained. QUESTION is about the timing chain tensioner. In cold weather I am hearing the famous RATTLE on cold startup occasionally. I am happy to have it replaced but I hear that the sound comes back. DOES THIS split second noise do any long term damage to engine/timing chain or is it just an annoying sound? As you said in this video, the oils are thicker in cold so this noise is actually common in Toyotas as well on cold start up. So, any long term damage???? Thanks
Vtc actuators require replacing, not recieving oil correctly worn them out, can stretch timing chain, etc
@@Thegreatto2 yes, but the 2015 is usually timing chain tensioner making noise.
So anytime anything is slapping around and rattling there’s gonna be long term consequences, I would get it changed.

Would you consider Costco Gas a brand name?
Yes and no, they have to make sure fuel is clean although I doubt they use the best out there
What about the coils for plug change..they last much longer?
I wouldn’t change them unless if they fail, at that point, replace all of them.
@@BCautosolutions so how do you know they are failing thru observation and symptoms..how long do they typically last..used to be to change the wires with your plugs for maintenance.
@@Tracy-wr7mj they fail at all different mileage points. They are also a lot more expensive than replacing the wires back in the day.

23 Accord Touring here with 2 year Honda complimentary maintenance included. Honda won’t even do any thing until the maintenance light comes on, example for oil change. Does Honda use full synthetic on the freebies?
They use the most affordable oil unless your getting the bottled stuff which won’t be covered under the plan. What I recommend is change oil every 3k, don’t reset the light. When the light finally comes on, take it in for the “free” stuff.
Do you recommend induction service for the GDI only engines? If so, how often? Thanks!

I have a 2002 civic ex, with 199,000 it run like a clock, but now I have a head gasket issue, I was hoping I will hit 300,000 without major repairs....maybe is a time for a K swap but I do not no how much is involved. I also have a 2017 accord sport with about 50,000 mil great car! we just purchased a CRV 2024 Hybrid sport touring, for my wife, now the question is when I should do the 1st oil change? At a 1000 mil, or wait for a bit longer? Is it true that honda uses a break in oil, and it needs to stay in for a while, or just replace it and go with the 5,000 mil oil changes? Finally the new Hondas come with a 2 year 24 months service for oil and filter, I was wondering if It is not worth it, if I have to do my oil change over a 5,000 mil. Thank you!
Yeah those 1.7 were gasket blowers only second to the 1.5t. As far as the new Crv goes I would change it at 3k considering it’s hybrid and every 3-5k after that. Congrats and best of luck.
The only thing that's new to me is I'm at 40k and got a b7 brake fluid flush bleed brakes .I've never done that only when I do a brake service .is it necessary to just do this .I've always took a turkey baster and sucked the fluid out of master filled back up with fresh fluid and drive and repeat in between services and I've never replaced a caliper on my cars either. On my older hondas reaching 300k to 450k
So brake fluid does absorb moisture. Using the turkey baster works although I’m not sure it would be thorough enough. I would empty the reservoir, fill with new fluid and at minimum gravity bleed each caliper.
So far thankfully my maintenance minders coincide with 3k-5k mile range that. Wing said because my driving has been significantly shortened I assume the maintenance minder is timed?
Yes minder also has time calculated into to the algorithm

@@christopherk2020 the 2.0t does the 3.0t has a timing belt
Will changing the fluids or oil earlier than the maintenance guide and having the work done at a local honda independent mechanic void the warranty on a new honda?

Got a 2023 Ridgeline already making a tic/rattle sound when it cold low idle. Sad man. Dealership has no clue said they can't hear nothing

Nope, can’t do it unfortunately. That’s an epa regulation I’m 99% sure of that although k agree it’s silly when diesels pollute way more then you 20 mins of idle time lol.
You shouldn't need longer than 10 minutes anyways. At that point, you're just wasting gas if you think about it. After 5 minutes, start driving.
One thing I've noticed about my 2019 insight is, whenever the engine first starts up on a drive, it seemingly runs independent from the electric motor and the battery. The electric motor and battery seem to take care of the propulsion while the engine holds a static RPM. Is this some sort of warm-up cycle built into the operation of the hybrid system?
For winter months, what do u suggest for the ac?
My civic 19 got the condensor fix last year
Leave it alone and get it fixed come spring. Try not to follow any larger trucks on the highways as the kick up rocks very easily and damage the condensers.

@@ihar9975 really appreciate you saying that.
5:03 so do you recommend 91 even on the k20c2 ?
Regular is fine although I would consider 89-91 personally.
@@BCautosolutions interesting I'll try it next time. I didn't know an NA port injection engine would benefit from premium.
@@whereswaldo9089 yeah not in the way a gdi turbo engine will, but there are still benefits.
A lot of the newer Hondas come with turbo charged engines. With the high heat & pressure & oil dilution of turbo charged engines. I doubt very many of them will reach 200k miles.
There’s already 20-30 that have come through here. Will definitely need more maintenance but the oil dilution won’t affect those because they aren’t running for short periods of time.
Ive done 10,000 mile oil changes on Toyotas and Hondas and those cars made it to 400k miles and still running.
Hondas Maintenance minder hits around 7500 miles.
3000 to 5000 thats is way overkill oil change.
Yeah I’ll have to disagree here…. I’ve seen it over and over, it’s doesn’t end well, ever…
