I disabled the VCM on my 2011 Odyssey at 59k Kms when we bought it. I also changed the plugs at that point and found the rears were really fouled up already. Since then, I change the oil every 5k Kms and the plugs have been changed at 120k Kms and will need to be changed again soon as we are at 190k Kms and still running perfectly.
@@prokopprusek9134 I've had an S-VCM in for a year, about 20k km, in a 2010 Odyssey EX-L. The engine got a new cylinder three sparkplug at the same time as the S-VCM. I pulled the plug recently to look at it and there was no sign of oil burning. The prior plug had about 50k km on it (installed at 160k km), with VCM enabled, it was carboned and there was a short, transient, episode of misfires on the cylinder, and the oil was down to the bottom of the dip stick at 50% oil life, which was unusual, and indicated some oil buring had occured during. That prompted the S-VCM install. When I replaced the original plugs at 160k km there was carboning on plugs 1,2,3, and 4. It was worst on 3. Which is typical. The van now runs fine today, modest oil consumption, and I expect it will have VCM disabled for rest of its life.
You are definitely underrated, in a way I’m glad you are because gives your followers more opportunity to gather direct feedback from you the Pro, but on the other hand , your knowledge deserves to be heard by everyone! Thank you for what you do!
2015 Odyssey. VCM on since new. Works great and saves gas. No oil consumption according to the dipstick. Had transmission shutter at 60,000 and the dealer found service bulletin. They did a triple drain and fill with Honda ATF, then a firmware update. Problem resolved. I've done a double drain and fill every 30,000 since and the transmission is working great. Oh yea, I change my oil between 30-40% on the less than adequate maintenance minder, not the 15% that dealers recommend.
Did the dealer cover this service for free? What was the cost? Do you recall the service bulletin #? There is a separate one for a torque converter lockup, so just doing my research.
@@mrsayao Try searching these. From Service Bulletin 17-043 February 27, 2018 08340 Version 2 2014-17 Odyssey: Judder from the Torque Converter Lock-Up Clutch There are two bulletins referring to this subject: • 17-043 - 2014-17 Odyssey: Judder from the Torque Converter Lock-Up Clutch. Do this bulletin first to apply the software and flush the transmission as indicated in the REPAIR PROCEDURE. • 17-044 - 2014-17 Odyssey: Judder from the Torque Converter Lock-Up Clutch After Software Update. Some vehicles based on how they are driven may still experience ATF deterioration after updating the PGM-FI or A/T system. In these cases, do the inspection and, if necessary, flush the transmission as indicated in the REPAIR PROCEDURE. I believe that the dealer cover the cost, but several years ago, so I won't swear. "The term “flushing” refers to repeatedly draining and filling the transmission with Honda Genuine ATF-DW1. Other aftermarket flush systems are available, but American Honda strongly recommends that you avoid using them on any Honda vehicles."
About 11 years ago, I purchased a very nice Accord V6 Ex with about 25k miles and the dreaded VCM. I experienced the steering wheel shuttering and excessive oil consumption using Mobil 1 around 50K miles. I traded the Accord for a mint 2012 TL FWD with only 12k miles. Still loving the TL and at 115k miles using Mobil 1, still zero oil consumption. I always wanted a TL, and the VCM helped me make the decision!
Of course you should disable VCM in any Honda. There are no downsides of disabling it only a long list of upsides. And the 1mpg you might lose is not a downside.
Just installed the VCM Tuner 2 today in my 2013 RDX with 145K miles. Engine is more responsive while coasting and then punching the throttle. Nice to have a full time V6.
@omarlozano8037 Yeah, it's been sold out for a LONG time now, so I decided to go with the S-VCM instead of the VCM Tuner 2... It's the next best thing, it's been working good, no eco-mode anymore, and true temp readings.
@@4Runner21VCM Tuner 2 has been sold out for a long time now, I decided to go with the S-VCM instead (it's the next best thing) and has been working great, no more eco-mode, and true temp readings. It's also a little cheaper than the VCM Tuner 2. Just Google S-VCM, and you'll be able to purchase it from their website directly.
I have a 2011 Honda Pilot and had Cylinder 3 fouling starting around 90k miles. I changed the plugs at 92k to NKG Ruthenium high ignitability and change the oil at 50% and 100% of MM which is around 5k miles between changes and use fuel system cleaner frequently. It's been running with out fouling since making these changes. It's at 120 k miles now.
Thanks for the vid!!! It’s annoying taking it in and off before going into the dealer, although that’s infrequent since I do basic maintenance myself. I’m glad to hear earthdreams engines have the oil consumption figured out, but I’ll still keep VCm Tuner II on my pilot because I don’t want to replace engine mounts. Plus I think it runs smoother with all 6 cylinders all the time.
2019 Honda Passport - purchased with 29k, now has 60k. Installed VCMTUNER II 20 months & 20k ago - WOW 1000% better vehicle. Changed plugs and ignition coils at 50k, much better power, no noticeable MPG loss. I'd say that the vehicle is completely different. I change my own oil every 5k religiously and drives like a dream. Just changed the drive belt and PCV recently, very very easy.
Just some input on deactivation of VCM. I went with the S-VCM. It is better in that it deactivates the VCM by tricking the car that it’s a few degrees cooler than operating temperature BUT, it hooks up to battery and has a brain that monitors the actual temp and if it notices actual temp rising above normal then it deactivates itself so you’ll get the real guage readout and not have an overheat situation that your notified about too late.
@@kalel0192Just Google s-vcm it's a small company making them, you give your vin to verify they are sending you the correct kit. My car had severe oil burn. Matches the 13-078 warranty recall on vcm accords. I had 1.5 qts per 1000 miles burned. Adding the svcm reduced it to 1qt per 1000miles and I proceeded with new piston rings and spark plugs. All the rings oil control rings had spun out of place and were carboned up. My catalytic converter were also destroyed and needed to be replaced. For the accord V6 2008-2010 with the j35Z2 engine it's a requirement. For the j35Z3 (2011-2012) I do not think it is necessary bc the vcm is not present on the engines valve train. The main issue was the vcm disabling the valve train on those cylinders increasing oil blow by and fouling the plugs when reenabled. Fouled plugs results in unburnt fuel in the exhaust over heating the cats and excessive burnt engine oil being sent down the exhaust also hurts the cats.
I installed a VCM TUNER II, on my recently purchased 2014 Honda Odyssey. Said Odyssey had Honda dealer oil changes, every 5000 miles. I just drove it completely across America, it ran perfectly!
PS Approx. 2500 miles, across America at approx. 80 MPH, NO OIL Consumed! I checked it before and after the trip, after overnight sit, level ground. I attribute that to 1 The ONE, Original Owner had it's oil & filter changed every approx. 5000 miles, at a Honda dealer. 2 When I replaced the spark plugs, before the trip, I added a few ounces of Seafoam , then Gummout carb spray into each cylinder. letting it sit a few days. I also (with plugs OUT!) rotated the engine over, by hand. This to allow the solvents to really soak into the rings and ring "Lands" (the grooves in the pistons that rings sit it). And, 3 The VCM Tuner II. this on our 2114, 133000 mile, Honda Odyssey. Mike C.
I have a 2014 Accord Coupe V6, with active VCM, paddle shifters and 155000 miles. I have had zero problems with it. I change oil every 5k like clockwork. I drive 80 miles a day. Shockingly, I still have the original plugs. When I drive conservatively, I can get upwards of 35 mpg. I absolutely love it.
I have a 2014 V6 with 147k I bought used the first thing I did was changed the plugs with NGK iridium plugs and coilm packs that fire them, the car run great and has amazing power when I look in with oil cap off there's also no sludge.
The VCM already failed on my 2023 Honda Pilot with 5k miles. Honda has already had it for 3 months and it is still not fixed. They said they are waiting for parts. The main reason I bought a Honda was for reliability. 😢
In my personal opinion buying anything in 2023 is going to be less reliable. I personally go with vehicles 2016 or older. Less stuff to break with less tech
That downshift thud at partial throttle Is EXACTLY what I've been experiencing! I thought it was my trans going out. So, it's this VCM thing all along? This is the only thing about my Acura TLX that I don't like. Currently, I am trying to figure out WHAT product does what I need without having to overspend? This S-VCM Controller, a VCM Tuner II standard or Advanced, or all the way up to a KTUner 1.2 or V2 for crazy money. Thanks, man for the informative video! Subbed!
I would try one of the cheaper options for sure and see how it works for you. Although with the k tuner you can also make it peppier so it’s a 2 for 1 deal which is work considering 😅
One additional thought…People who use a muzzler or VCM tuner aren’t the people who go 40,000 miles between oil changes, so they rarely have major problems.
Good video. Thank you for sharing this info. A month ago i purchased a 2023 Honda Pilot Touring. Is this 10 speed engine susceptible to say, the same misfire/ fouling of spark plugs that I had with the 2011 Pilot? That gave me heartache for a few yrs till I traded it in.
First off thanks and congrats! We haven’t seen fouling plugs from oil consumption since the 2016+ earth dreams engines. I think this new j series will be fine 🙌
Honda should never put the VCM in their V6, people buy a V6 to have all 6 cylinders. That's why I choose Toyota old V6, no VCM, no direct injection and NO TIMING BELT!
Honda did not put that 🗑️ in their manual matched transmission Accords. I have never had a J-series engine that burned oil either. I work on these & prefer a T- Belt over a chain any day.
@@SamslamminCarsI have an 07 and 10 3.0 and 3.5. Any thoughts or suggestions about those engines? I can’t bring myself to buy another vehicle because they both still run pretty great!

I own a 17 accord v6 touring & just bought a cheap $20 kit/cable & it completely changed my driving experience. I think it drives & sounds about 70% better. Transmission felt rough before but now it's butter. Definitely recommend the cheap vcm kit. Maybe I'm just a cheap dutch guy but I bet the $200 kit is the same thing with a nice cover & better wire insulation.
Not only do they shut down the injectors and the spark, but the problem is that they KEEP THE VALVES CLOSED thereby creating a vacuum when the cylinders are going on the downward stroke thus sucking oil into the combustion chamber. The compression rings and the oil ring were constructed for compression, not vacuum. "The piston still goes up and down." Wow what an eye-opener that was.
VCM muzzler when i first got my v6 Accord, Best move ever (even the dealership i go to, since the mechanics by me charge more, use the cheapest parts, etc, admitted that it's probably why i don't have any issues). Now, where can i get stronger motor mounts... Like proper ones and with poly bushings
@@BCautosolutionsseems to be blanks. Unless a 6-6 mount could work... Been working lately on chassis bracing to make things more rigid. I just want the engine to not be such a pig in terms of moving about.
I’ve had a number of Hondas and I am done with them. Have a long list of repairs made on my 2012 Ody. Both catalytics, motor mounts, valve gaskets, and many others. 8000 miles ago new spark plugs. They just failed due to this VCM issue - oil burning. I’ll be getting a VCM. But no new Hondas for me.
Should I do a vcmtuner for a well maintained 2007 Honda Pilot exl? No issues with misfires, transmission or oil burning at this time. Thanks for the video!
Have lightly used (mostly highway trips) 2014 V6 J35Y1 Earth Dreams Accord. Nice car. 50K miles. Blamed wonky transmission for ten years. Finally after much reading online, added disabler (VCM Tuner II). Shudder/Judder/inappropriate shifting, all gone. Lost 1-2 mpg but the way I drive is still comfortably above EPA estimates. No more Honda V6 power for me, due to this VCM constraint (and timing belt replacement costs)
Well I beam driving with with one for 2 years in my 2015 pilot and up here in Canada we get some crazy ass snow storm. I removed the VCM for week and man it was sketchy in snow storm pilot was sluggish and no power after installing VCM man can’t beat power of all 6 cylinder working
I don't know what the big deal is about the VCM. A few bad stores and people think their engine is a ticking time bomb. I have about 100k on my V6..no issues at all!
Honda already settled their class action lawsuit back in 2014 for all the 2008-2013 VCM motors. They extended the warranty to 8 years and reimbursed those who already paid out of pocket for repairs. Those years are the ones to avoid.
Yeah I mean there was definitely consumption related issues although I think Hondas lazy maintenance algorithm affected it too. I’d be willing to be there was some software changes to algorithm as well with the pcm software for the vcm. Although I’m with you, not everyone will be victims of this, also some people are more sensitive to vibrations while other are oblivious driving on tires with flat spots 😅
Trust me, if you drive mostly city stop and go it IS a ticking time bomb. Freeway driving you are a little safer, since it is not turning on and off as much. Which causes carbon buildup, misfires, and destroys your piston rings, which means a total rebuild or a engine swap.
@@ccsocal768that doesn’t even make sense. My eco rarely come on in nyc stop and go traffic. If anything, the eco comes on when I am cruising in the highway.

Thanks for video. I have a 2009 Pilot with 140K miles and have not noticed any unusual oil burning or vibrations. My only issue is at approx 120K, a cat coverter ECL code (P0430). Could this premature cat converter failue be caused by VCM?
You said that when VCM is activated that the valves continue to open and close, that only the fuel is cut off, is that correct? I thought the valves opening and closing was deactivated as well. That is the whole purpose of the spool valve / oil control valves that are mounted on the cylinder heads, they hydraulically lock and unlock the rocker arms using oil pressure.
You are correct, in that the valve operation is disabled by oil pressure using the control solenoid, which is the reason for the plugs and rings getting fouled up. It seems that the vacuum created by the the piston traveling up and down in the cylinder bore with the valves closed causes oil to get sucked up into the combustion chamber and ring lands, gunking it all up!
Yes if... You do not carbon clean your engine and tune up regularly. Also you will have to change oil every 4000 miles. If you are not babying the engine and components then there is a high chance you will have a misfire eventually. Honda odysseys/ Accords are for people who are semi handy or more and want an above average driving performance.
Engines will carbon regardless of vcm of not. Newer cars in general are not for your average diyer, that’s why I make the videos I make, not just odysseys and accords.
I got a cheap vcm muzzler to shut off the ECO light but got a CEL 4 months later saying bad thermostat n running too cool. Decided to replace the thermostat n both ECTs. CEL was gone n came back 3 months later throwing the same code. Do u think the vcm muzzler is the culprit? Should i change the resistor?
me too, I have a 2008 with 235k miles with VCM enabled. Same with my friend who has a 2007 with 244k miles.. so not sure about this muzzler thing.. I do my own oil changes.
@@legendaryslayer1234 - I actually have 3 of them, all high miles - no valve adjustment ever done. 2006 Ridgeline with 245k miles, 2005 odyssey with 185k miles and 2008 odyssey with vcm 235k miles. They all have power steering issues and valve cover leaks..
You do have to read your contract if you have a 3rd party vehicle service contract though. Some of those will have a prohibition against “tuning” parts/software and technically that’s what a VCM muzzler or tuner is doing.
Great video on an interesting topic for all Honda owners. I am very interested if they offer a VCM muzzler for the new DOHC J series as I am considering a future Passport myself. I do feel like VCM is one of those deals with the devil. We do get our NA V6, yes, but at what cost? Direct injection and VCM issues such as oil consumption, spark plugs fouling, motor mount wear and NVH. This is probably the last hurrah for Honda V6’s until the end of the decade. The Toyota 2GR-FE is on its way out and the older 4.0 V6 4Runner is on its last legs. Even tried and true platforms come with an increasing amount of compromises to meet CAFE regulations and the EPA fuel economy circuit for best MPG. It does make me appreciate the Honda Accord 6-6. SOHC V6, no VCM on the manuals, port injection, no stop start and of course, VTEC.
I haven’t seen anything for the new dohc engines although would be interesting to see if one could configure the current muzzler lots out there. Tbh I haven’t even looked to see where most sensors are either on the pilot or mdx/tlx S and being that that coolant passage pipes are on opposite ends it’s going to be something I’m going to have to look into and possibly make a future video on.
I notice with the check engine light on. eco light stays off, is there a harmless way to have the check engine light stay on? maybe driving with a loose gas cap or something as harmless?
Question, if VCM is tricked into below operating temperature, when something is wrong and vehicle is overheating a little bit, vcm will be activated again ?

Confused about viberation. 2017 pilot vibration at 60 to 70. Usually happens up hill. 80,000 miles transmission fluid changed regularly. It’s small vibration like a wheel bearing but they are fine. Is this most likely the VCM?
@@PatrickEvans07 do you have a 6at? I would highly suggest looking at your trans fluid condition. If it’s anything but red/light brown, might want to consider changing it. Know there may always be risks doing that tho and things could turn for the worse.

I have a 2013 Honda Pilot with 160,000 miles on it and just spent over $4000 on repairs to piston rings and fouled spark plugs. Oil is bypassing rings. I change my oil every 6,000 miles and have not noticed low oil . I don't understand that part of it. Wouldn't I notice if I was burning oil or needed a change prior to 6,000 miles? Now I need a new catalytic converter. What is going on...after joining several Pilot Forums it seems to be caused by VCM. Any thoughts?
I’d highly recommend 3k oil changes. The rings were damaged to infrequent oil changes along with possibly some vcm activity so I would disable that at this point as well. The cat was damaged due to oil consumption. If your going to change one I would do both primaries, they fail pretty quickly within each other.

I was watching video how oil was fouling plugs from vcm I changed my plugs at 90 thousand on my v6 As a pre owned car not knowing how past has been driven the spark plugs I took out looked very good the perfect tan color No sign of oil burn so I think there so many variables that go into this and may be were the car is located and there temperature As i stated above the hotter the car runs for some reason the more it deactivates cylinders so if u live in Texas it can doing it all the time vs couple times In winter like never dose it lol This vcm has more than meets the eyes Do I think it’s good. 100% all my vehicles (both that I currently own as well) get oil changes every 3k. 3-5k and you will for the most part avoid major issues on any brand.
I have a 22 tlx type s. Some times the car literally takes 2 seconds before the gas responds when I need it. Like going through a yield and merging on a Highway. Seems like the engine is unresponsive and then boom it engages and takes off. I thought that was the vcm. Any thoughts?
Vcm, waiting for pcm to receive throttle input to select the correct gear. If you want to avoid that as much as possible I would recommend driving on sport/+ mode
Great content, I appreciate it. I wanted to know will the vcm in time make the electronic mounts wear out quicker than they should and need replacement? If so around what mileage? Will the vcm affect the combustion of the engine or any part of the engines functions in time? Do you run the vcm muzzler in the Acura? Contemplating if I really need to install the muzzler. @@jonathanlonneville5945 what’s your main concern? Oil consumption/fouling of the plugs hasn’t been an issue since the introduction of the earth dreams engines. Mounts also aren’t failing. It’s a greatly improved system and pretty seamless. I would leave it alone.
My main concern is the reliability dependability and longevity of the engine. My understanding is that the VCM leads to rings failing and oil consumption and fouled plugs. I would like to drive this vehicle for hundred thousand miles would hate for something like the vcm to prohibit that.
@@jonathanlonneville5945 follow my maintenance advice and you will have the best chances at achieving that. 1-2 miles per gallon. Honda totally disowns any knowledge of the VCM blocker and VCM problems since they get a HUGE tax break from the US government to have the VCM and the slightly higher MPG. Turning it off at any official dealer would officially void their lovely tax write off the government gives them on VCM cars. American Honda would much rather void your warranty and screw you than give up that hundreds of millions in government money.
Most people report seeing 1mpg difference with VCM on vs off. The primary reason for it is emissions. Same for idle/stop, it’s primarily for emissions. Same reason why many car companies go smaller with turbos….emissions.

So now I am thinking to log a few drives as well as potentially switch to a higher octane. Hence my questioning initially. Maybe you can do a video on this topic 😬….

Look at the front head and directly to the left of the valve cover if there’s some switches, it has vcm, if no switches, then it doesn’t. Plus it would probably display eco on cluster when in vcm mode I believe on that year.
@@BCautosolutions I have never seeing ECO mode at all on our RDX. I’ll check if there are switches though. Thank you! Hey man, do you suggest Trans filter replacement , the one under the hood on this car Or on and 06 Accord 4 Cylinder after trans drain and fill? Ty!

@@prokopprusek9134 I can’t recall but I believe they looked normal. First change at 68k kms the back three were very oil soaked and black.

2014-17 Odyssey: Judder from the Torque Converter Lock-Up Clutch
There are two bulletins referring to this subject:
• 17-043 - 2014-17 Odyssey: Judder from the Torque Converter Lock-Up Clutch. Do this bulletin first to apply the
software and flush the transmission as indicated in the REPAIR PROCEDURE.
• 17-044 - 2014-17 Odyssey: Judder from the Torque Converter Lock-Up Clutch After Software Update. Some
vehicles based on how they are driven may still experience ATF deterioration after updating the PGM-FI or A/T
system. In these cases, do the inspection and, if necessary, flush the transmission as indicated in the REPAIR
PROCEDURE.
Still loving the TL and at 115k miles using Mobil 1, still zero oil consumption. I always wanted a TL, and the VCM helped me make the decision!

Great valuable info
This is what I've been trying to figure out, thank you for this info. Do you have a link that explains this by the manufacturer of the S-VCM?

Hi, which kit did you get and where? thank you!

@@axxiom20001 yes, absolutely especially on the year
You said that when VCM is activated that the valves continue to open and close, that only the fuel is cut off, is that correct?

We have a buttton for ECO mode, one for start stop, why not VCM? Has no one with a high dollar scan computer found a override for VCM? On my 2023 Passport there is nothing that lets the driver know VCM is activated. The VCM sticker is also missing from the top engine cover.
K tuner has capabilities or turning off vcm in some vehicles although that requires a reflash.
Hello Doug, do you think I should install an oil catch can for my 2023 Honda Pilot
If yes, can you do a video on how to install one. Greatly appreciated
It’s not a bad idea. I would need a donor car and a kit.
I like to do it but not sure what brand brand will fit on my 19 pilot
So, we have a 2010 Pilot with 99k miles. Am I too late for the VCM to make a difference? I usually wrench on this car myself but will be outsourcing the upcoming waterpump/timing belt service.
I'm asking because we're about to purchase a low mileage (24k) 2021 Pilot and I'll be getting an S-VCM for that right away. Figured I'd save on shipping if I bought two.
Never too late although I haven’t seen any oil consumption issues post earth dreams engines. It will definitely improve driving experience either way. Thanks for sharing and best of luck
@@BCautosolutions I didn't know anything about this before we started looking for a new pilot. I kicking myself for not doing it earlier on the 2010. Couldn't stand the ride when eco mode was active. It'll make that better at least. I have pretty bad oil consumption on the 2010, so perhaps that will improve also.

Can you please talk about the 9 Speed reliability and how difficult is to replace the fluid or shop should do it for a particular reason. Thanks in advance
He has already covered this in other videos.
I have nothing against the zf 9 spd (not the popular opinion here) I will do a trans service video tho, it’s on the list of many to do videos 😅
It is easy to do maintenance, ZF9
The second Gen ZF9 has been really good
No issues so far with over 120k miles from what I have seen
@@reyperez3424 maintenance is easy yes
I basically drained the fluid. Measured how much was drained and added that amount of new fluid back into it.
I have the new 2024 Ridgeline Trail Sport on order for Jan 4, Delivery. Will they still have the VCM? Has Honda changed anything with the J motor?
Yes they will. They will have the same j found in the current ridgeline.
My 2023 pilot trailsport @ 3k miles maintenance light went on for low oil reading of 50%. Now at 6k miles the reading is 70%. Really debating on disabling the VCM now but not a lot of information from other owners thus far.
I would leave it alone
any update on your choice of disabling or not? I have not read anything in regards to old disable devices actually working on the new cars, even though it might plug right in the same places.
Is it too late to disable VCM if only 45000 miles and oil consumption and or vibrations occur? I.E. has damage already been done? This is a 2012 Accord. Not sure if problem solved in this latter model. Thanks.
No, you can still go ahead and disable
I was watching video how oil was fouling plugs from vcm
I changed my plugs at 90 thousand on my v6 As a pre owned car not knowing how past has been driven the spark plugs I took out looked very good the perfect tan color
No sign of oil burn so I think there so many variables that go into this and may be were the car is located and there temperature
As i stated above the hotter the car runs for some reason the more it deactivates cylinders so if u live in Texas it can doing it all the time vs couple times
In winter like never dose it lol
This vcm has more than meets the eyes
Do I think it’s good. No
But the issue depend on wide range of circumstances
Why Honda didn’t put on switch is beyond me
But I do have the vcm would not go with out it but don’t try ellinate it completely pull all ur hair out doing that
I have so 95 percent in drive don’t come on
Only after traffic and once u start driving may stay on 15-20 seconds then gone
And if I give touch Throtel kicks off as well
lol 😂
Appreciate you sharing your experience!
@@BCautosolutions no problem buddy

Im currently looking to buy a honda thats why im here. Just a FYI. Avoid using extended life oils. I used one of those 25k synthetic oils and i changed it at 15k and i drive like a grandma. Thats where all my problems started with my Lexus. Just MHO. Bit im sure if you keep up with oil changes you should be good
100% all my vehicles (both that I currently own as well) get oil changes every 3k. 3-5k and you will for the most part avoid major issues on any brand.
Always change at 2-3 thousand miles on high mileage cars.
Is VCM active in Sport mode?
I have a 22 tlx type s. Some times the car literally takes 2 seconds before the gas responds when I need it. Like going through a yield and merging on a Highway. Seems like the engine is unresponsive and then boom it engages and takes off. I thought that was the vcm. Any thoughts?
Vcm, waiting for pcm to receive throttle input to select the correct gear. If you want to avoid that as much as possible I would recommend driving on sport/+ mode
Which tuner would you recommend for a 2008 V6 Accord?
Yes, I did it t my 2008 v6
Great content, I appreciate it.
I wanted to know will the vcm in time make the electronic mounts wear out quicker than they should and need replacement? If so around what mileage? Will the vcm affect the combustion of the engine or any part of the engines functions in time? Do you run the vcm muzzler in the Acura? Contemplating if I really need to install the muzzler. I have a 2021 With the 9 speed tran.
So we haven’t seen any mount failures on the newer Hondas with vcm even with well over 200k. We also have not seen any oil consumption issues earth dream engines onwards. I personally don’t even feel the transition on my tlx type s although some are more sensitive then others. I personally wouldn’t use a muzzler.
@Hondamobilemechanic Thanks for the response! I appreciate your content as it really helps the Honda community. Keep up the great work!
@@ihar9975 thank you!
I read somewhere recently that Honda pipes white noise through speakers to muffle VCM interior sounds.
Is this true?
Yes at times it can
Would you recommend getting a S VCM for 2017 TLX V6 3.5L? Thank you for your time!
It wouldn’t hurt, if for anything just better driveability.
We have a 2017 Honda Pilot and was thinking of doing this. Has anyone had any issues with the engine over heating ? Cooling fans working correctly?
If done properly should work flawlessly
Ktuner factory tune with vcm disable is a good option.
Get some added power will disabling vcm, I approve 😅
@@BCautosolutionsteach me how to do that... I have 2005 ody and need it urgently.
Hey bud, watched a few of your videos, roamed around the comments. Seems like you think the 24+ DOHC 3.5 in the Ridgeline well likely NOT need a VCM disabler? Looking into getting a Ridgeline probably late 2025, was thinking I'd get the start/stop disabler, and probably VCM as well. Seems like you think VCM is fine on these new models?
@@MeltingRubberZ28 yes for sure. No oil consumption issues even long term. Just changed your oil every 3-5k

Will it work for the new 2024 Honda Pilot? I don't see any for 2023/2024 year.
I believe they are working on something for it
My odyessy had a negative umpact from vcm defeat device. The one that tricks the thermostat in showing cooler temps my torque converter in transmisson seemed to nkt unlock on desell. Im wondering if fans run. Properly keeping trans temp cool enough with defete device

I wouldn’t personally.
I have a 2015 Acura TLX SH-AWD Advance Package. I always have the car in sport+ mode. Does sport+ disable vcm? Or is it still active
Not sure tbh but on the tlx type S it’s disabled so it’s possible.

Oil consumption/sticking rings often gets blamed on vcm and its root cause is more times then not over extended oil changes. At 1:33 you mentioned what sounds like “pre earth dreams”. What does that mean please?
Basically all the v6 before 2015-2016 ish
Does VCM actually save fuel? Or is it an emissions thing?
Tbh who knows, it’s a bunch of waisted effort if you ask me.
1 or 2 mpg
@@sizzlacalunji I feel you, I was thinking the same thing. Having such an engine switch between 3, 4, & 6 cylinders is a cumbersome task. And I knew the fuel economy couldn’t be boosted if at all.
