    Just received the S-VCM controller for my 2024 Ridgeline Black Edition and will be installing it today after I do my 1st oil change. I hate to reduce my fuel mileage because I commute 100 miles per day, but I'm far more concerned about long term damage caused by VCM, and there are many accounts of such damage here on youtube. This is a good trade off as far as I'm concerned. I'm also comforted by the fact that the S-VCM controller was designed by a Honda engineer. Thanks for the video!

      @Jazz-life I installed the S-VCM controller yesterday. During my 100 mile round trip commute today I immediately noticed that the vibrations and harshness were gone, and the throttle response is much better and smoother. I also didn't notice any drop in fuel economy, but I need to run thru at least an entire tank before I'll know for sure. So glad I installed it!

    An update for those interested: It has been about three months now and the VCM is still working good. My oil consumption is down to about 1/2 quart of oil (between ~3000 mile oil changes). Some of the oil lost is due to a small oil leak coming from the rear main seal and/or oil pan gasket. So not all the oil that is missing is from consumption. But this device has been working very well. I am pleased with it. Sure it consumes a little more gas; but I would rather pay extra at the pump than having to do major engine work.

      Hey Robert, how much worse is the gas mileage after installing the s-vcm? I have a 2010 accord crosstour been driving for 40k km. Only issue I have is the vibration at 70-100km/h. Will the s-vcm fix this?

    • @ahotdj07
      @ahotdj07 2 года назад

      @@Nh0001 Hello. I noticed that my fuel dropped around 5 miles per gallon. I am now getting about 20 miles per gallon, which is not bad for a V6 that is 10 years old (only 120,000 miles). For your vibration issue, no the VCM controller will not (to the best of my knowledge) fix the issue. You might want to see if you have a tire (or tires) that are not balanced. Usually a vibration at that speed could be a tire out of balanced, bent rim, and/or drive axles.

    I just bought a 2012 Honda Accord EXL with the V6 3.5 engine, and the first thing I did was get this S-VCM controller, after learning that the Variable cylinder management engine system is a bad design, regarding excessive oil burning and fouling spark plugs, not to mention the stress it puts on the motor!

    • @ahotdj07
      @ahotdj07 3 года назад +4

      I have the same car and Honda was telling me that the car is consuming oil and to replace the engine (tune of $6k). Car only has 119,000 miles too. So I installed this S-VCM this morning and cannot wait to see if there is a difference in oil consumption.

    • @politicman1
      @politicman1 3 года назад +3

      @@ahotdj07 That is bad advice Honda gave you, why would you spend $6,000.00 on a new engine because it is consuming oil, when you just add the oil as needed? You did the right thing by getting the S-VCM controller, because it's a cheap fix, if it works out for you, which I hope it does.

    • @ahotdj07

      @@politicman1 Because Honda wanted to make money. I learned that it was "consuming oil" when Honda was replacing my spark plugs (got a misfire code on cylinder #1). That is when they said the car is consuming oil and two options were to either have the piston rings replaced in all six cylinders OR it might be as cheap, if not cheaper to replace the engine (used engine of course). So after researching, I learned about the issues that Honda has with the V6 3.5l engines that has VCM. Glad (sadly though) that I am not the only one dealing with this issue. Nonetheless, we will see if the S-VCM controller does the trick. Also I was told to change the oil in higher intervals, like every 3000 miles and use full synthetic oil, which I will do. Time will only tell.

    I used to have the old version of this years ago on my 2008 Odyssey. At that time all it did was reduce the temp reading to the computer so the VCM would not activate. But you had to watch out in super cold conditions as it may take too long for the system to come up to temp and trip a check engine light. Has this sytem done away with that concern? If I remember correctly it was called the vcm muzzler and you had multiple options depending on climate.

      On older models there was an indicator light when the VCM shut down half of the cylinders. Looks like they don't have it on newer models.
      Basically if you're not having issues yet, this will prevent them. No fouling of spark plugs, excessive oil consumption, wearing out transmission fluid or replacing expensive electronic motor mounts.
      Continued use of the VCM will cause premature wear on a number of components. Disabling it will make your vehicle just run the way cars always used to. The only indicator you'll have is that the temp gauge is a few degrees lower and you won't have the problems that many Honda owners encounter.

      @@slipperyjohnson7016 if you had noticed a significant difference that would indicate that damage had already been done to the motor mounts. It's far from just the Pilot that was affected by this. VCM has ruined motors on multiple Honda models for a decade now. Other manufacturers have tried their own version of cylinder 'management' with similarly poor results. Ruins motor mounts, fouls spark plugs, consumes oil, damages piston rings and cooks transmission fluid all for 5% better mileage on the highway. There was a class action lawsuit against Honda because it's so bad.

      so it's not gonna hurt your car? is it really safe to install?

    • @AutoSensation
      @AutoSensation  3 года назад +3

      @@zeta602 pretty safe. SMARTER AND SAFER TO THE BOTTOM LINE! - When a resistor tool fails while you are driving, your car's engine will be in trouble because the faulty resistor cannot remove itself to let the car's onboard computer get the correct coolant temperature. The S-VCM Controller is different - even if it fails, its design ensures that it would quit as if it is not installed.

    questions.. so after doing this, I won’t be able to use eco mode? Also, dashboard temperature gauge is always going to show cold?

    • @AutoSensation
      @AutoSensation  2 года назад

      On the third gen. It does not affect eco mode. No temperature gauge will not always show cold. For the most part it will not show much deviation from the true temp.

    I have a 2022 Acura MDX a spec it also comes with VCM. I am intrigued by this product but the biggest issue I have with it Is that it tricks the computer telling it that the engine is colder and not at operating temperature so It deactivated the VCM. At the same time I’m assuming it’s also injecting more fuel into the cylinders to get it up to operating temperatures Because it’s assuming that he needs to warm up again that’s my assumption and that’s why you are consuming more fuel than normal. I don’t think I would add this to my MDX. I do oil changes every 3000 miles it’s excessive but I am trying to avoid every type of carbon buildup and oil consumption I also have two oil catch can to try to minimize the oil Blowby good luck guys

    • @reedhensley
      @reedhensley 3 года назад +1

      It wont make it overheat. The feature is if something else makes the car overheat (failed cooling fan, low coolant, stuck thermostat), the svcm will detect that and restore the true temperature to the gauge in the cabin so you can see it

      @@glockwhore I did not have to actually buy anything else that I did not already have. I have a professional scan tool that allowed me to scan the truck via OBDC2 plug. From there I was able to scan all devices and clear the fault codes. Once all these faults were cleared, I turned off the truck and waiting a few minutes. Then I restarted the truck and no errors came back up. I did regain throttle response after a minute or two.

      The same thing with the dashboard lighting up like a x - mas tree happened to me also, plus my back up camera stopped working.
