You know what I'd like to see with the idea of an Enclave in Alaska? The idea of the Enclave being more good, or more moral in general. You could justify it pretty well, as like suggested, they've been isolated and on their own. It would be perfectly reasonable to have them follow a more noble version of the ideals and goals of the Enclave. It'd be a nice twist on the Enclave always being the bad guys. And you could still keep shades of grey from the more mainstream Enclave.

It would make sense for the Enclave to be there though. Just like it made sense for Enclave remnants to be in the DC area. Maybe this time they wouldn't be the enemy. Make it more nuanced and it could work.
But if the brotherhood or super mutants make an appearance it would ruin it.

Protagonist wise I thought of two options:
1: the survivalist. You’ve been alone for as long as you can remember. Maybe trading with the other factions here and there, but you’ve lived a tough yet fulfilling life alone. That is until your homestead is attacked by raiders. You’re forced to flee into the icy forests while everything you’ve built for yourself goes up in flames. After finding a stash of gear (determined by your tag skills) you attack the raiders in turn, wiping out their camp. An Army remnant squadron approached the destroyed camp and is impressed with your work, and offers you shelter at one of their camps.
Option 2: The multiple choice route.
You could start the game as the survivalist as above, or as a member of one of the main factions.

This is an amazing idea. Alaska is one of my favorite states. And has a great environment. For the US Military remnant based faction, I'd like to see it be kind of like the Rangers from the Wasteland series, or in a sense the Desert Rangers from NV, they'd bring protection and law to the territories under their control, and have a form of government known as a Kritarchy. This would be a unique position they'd be in, since we never get to interact with the Desert Rangers, and the only other group who has a similar set of ideals are the Regulators, but they don't have significant power in Fallout 3. So they could go in depth and explore that element this time around. Also, I think that having furs in this game would fit really well. Not only for character customization, but also economically. The Great White Wastes(as I'd call them), could have a huge fur trade, another thing we haven't seen much of in Fallout. And it'd give you another incentive to hunt, besides needing food to survive and keep warm. I also think it'd be a great chance to break away from the typical 'Im a hero' mentality of games. You could choose your backstory in the starting menu, and it'd give you a unique beginning, and influence how you start, but you could choose to leave that faction and walk the wastes or join another faction later on. I feel this would be great for replayability, and player freedom. It could be similar to how you play ESO(though obviously more grounded).

I would love to see a northern setting for Fallout as a Canadian, but if they ever do that, I would also like to see the Canadian resistance still fighting the Americans, since America basically annexed Canada to secure supply lines to Alaska. With the apocalypse, it would be interesting to see how both forces remaining in the area still fight each other, both for their perceived heritages and nations and to try to bring them back. If the setting was also more British Columbia than Alaska, then you could even have far more elements of the old world present due to the general sparse population in Canada. Less out right devastation and more just wilderness and the isolated pockets of civilization in the mountains

  • @thomaswinterhoff2078

I feel like lower BC would be a great place you could have several well know major players as well as the Canadian resistance. You have Vancouver Island and it's surrounding islands ripe for discovery as well as Vancouver itself with a major naval base. You would also have the lower main land with all those smaller cities but with farm land and mountains. There is also the northern wilderness to discover which if you have been to its simply breathless.
My DnD group did a campaign using modified rules with the naval base holding a pre war super carrier that was docked. We had the factions of enclave, brotherhood of steel (the northern faction), Canadian resistance, and a group of locals all trying to claim the super carrier a d its endless trove of prewar technologies. We had minor factions too like a legion infiltration/ sabature group who was trying to destroy to stop any one faction from getting it. The only problem was the base was guarded by power full robots and an army of ghouls who got more ferocious as we got to the carrier because wouldn't you know it had not one but to nuclear reactors with one of them leaking radiation. Oh man it was tough the Dm was awesome and we had a lot of great role-playing moments. We all died in the end trying to get to the carrier (ghouls killed us). To see that as the next fallout game would be so cool.

An Interesting faction could be a larger Chinese remnants, perhaps consisting of a force that after the war mounted a last ditch invasion amd got trapped there.
I'd imagine they would be based out of a small fleet frozen in the ice with their only working ship being a submarine that's trapped under the ice so the only way for it to surface was for them to cut away the bottom of one of their ships to make a make shift harbour for the sub.
They could act as a counter to the army remnant as they would promise an end to the harsh rule of the army. Though they would be as bad if bit worse.
The army remnants would be torn do they stay with the Enclave who have been distant at best as they weight on any orders beyond hold what land they have. Or do they relent to the civilians an esentaly become a new nation like the NCR.
As for the Enclave their ideal until they finnaly receive no new information from Control station Enclave, believing their the last remnants of the pre war government they move towards reclamation.
As for the Russians I'd see them using their own currency though as for how big this empire is I'd say its based in Magadan so it's a small state with their goal being to take Alaska before launching the reconquest of Russia. Though i think they would very much be on a time limit for their conquest as the baring straight would only be safe to cross in winter as that's when the ice is thick enough to move men across. I'd see the natives siding with the Russians due to proximity though they wouldn't be against forming their own nation or allying with others.

A concept from the HoI4 mod for Fallout, Old World Blues is something I'd love to see. Bellingham/Koover. Being a major pipeline town, and the staging post for the Alaskan campaign, as well as a focus for the Canadian resistance, when the bombs fell, there was a high rate of Ghoulification there. After significant conflict, the remaining ghouls form a stable community that is open to outsiders. A combination of Canadian freedom fighters, US garrison troops and veteran US Alaska troops makes a powerful, anti-US, anti-raider faction, not interested in a return to the old ways, which they can remember

Maybe your power armor could freeze up sometimes, leaving you stuck in your power armor, or making your power armor unusable for a little while, so you have to have to drag it around until you can find a way to make it unfrozen. This could lead to Fusion Cells not being needed until you are able to find an upgrade that doesn't make your power armor freeze up. This would probably be for basic Brotherhood types of power armor, and then the ultimate Enclave Armor would be the end-game armor. This could be considered a retcon as the armor in Operation Anchorage doesn't freeze up (but that can be explained away because it is a simulation), and there are no records of power armor freezing up, but you could explain that with the nukes made the cold much worse. Just an idea

After hearing of the situation in Alaska the council agrees to assist their people in the west. Halfway through the game the Canadians appear during a big confrontation between the rebels and the army and enclave. The Canadian army lands in verta birds and in patriotically painted power armour. The army and enclave flee, you are either taken prisoner or told to come with them depending on which side you pick. honestly, i really love the idea of a Fallout game taking place in Alaska, and you also got me excited when you mentioned a Russian faction, because i had the same idea, to have a Tsarist Russian Empire, i have a huge page on the things you said and my ideas
now, for equipment, i don't think "lacking" is the word, since in real life Russia had plenty of interesting fire arms
Makarov pistol - while lacking in damage, it feels nice to hold it even if it uses the weaker 9x18 caliber
APS pistol - the Makarov but it's a bullet hose (don't worry you can switch fire modes from semi to full)
Tokarev pistol - armor piercing ammo since the 1930 way before the 5.7x28 ammo in 1990
PPSH-41 - the tokarev pistol but is literally a "bullet hose" and has plenty of bullets
Mosin Nagant lower rank infantry and sniper rifle - 7.62x54mmR is a very powerful cartridge since 1891
Dragunov marksman rifle - the Mosin Nagant but in semi auto
AK rifles - if two types of AKs could be in, the difference would be, 7.62 AKs have better damage, 5.45 AKs have better customization like scope mounts and such
VSK 94, AS-VAL and VSS Vintorez - these rifles are suppressed as they use the heavy but powerful subsonic 9x39 caliber (and in S.T.A.L.K.E.R they are REALLY powerful and pretty much end game loot as they win battles in only a handful of shots), excluding the OTs-14 Groza "Thunder" as it's not suppressed but still uses the same caliber plus versions have a grenade launcher module
KS-23 shotgun or special carbine - a VERY interesting weapon used by riot police, Ministry Of Internal Affairs and Spetsnaz, it has many kinds of shells such as tear gas, shrapnel, flashbang and slugs (btw the 23x75mmR slug can literally destroy an entire car engine)
anyways, sorry for my ramble, but yeah they're not really lacking, maybe for armor though the 6B body armors could work including the SSH 60 helmets
anyways as for Canadians it would be cool to see the C7 rifle, which was the Canadian version of the M16, 9mm pistols like the Hi-Power (though for Canadians it's the L9A1, like with the British), and Mauser C96 copy, and it would be cool to see the Chinese assault rifle return with an option to convert it in 5.56 and change the handguard to a RPD style one to make it closer to the Fallout 3 counterpart, and the return of the R91 assault rifle with the ability to convert it to 308 (7.62x51 NATO), along with a long scope similar to the G3SG1 marksman version
and again, i did love the multiple currency types of Legion Denari, Bottle Caps and NCR Paper Money,
so for Fallout : Alaska it's Bottle Caps, Requisition Chips, Pre-War Money, Russian Rubles, Chinese Renminbi and the military grade ammo similar to Metro games (maybe it would be more valuable for the Russian faction more since in real life the Ruble is almost kind of useless and 90s Russia had similar economy as Spain, for example 100 Rubles is 1 Dollar and 55 Cents, or 2000 Rubles are 31 Dollars and 7 Cents)
also, it would be awesome if there were was a "wild wasteland" type perk for interesting moments and references
like i had an idea of encountering Tsar Nicholas the 2nd (with a scar on his eye from the failed assassination) asking you if you've seen Lenin anywhere, as he wants to have a "talk" with him
anyways, i loved your idea TOI, and keep up the amazing work, God Bless The Enclave, God Bless the 3rd Rome and America (yes, Russia called itself the "3rd Rome" as they are Orthodox Christian after ditching Paganism in favor for the Byzantine Empire's relations)

The Russian faction would be under equipped in the same way Tsarist Russia was in the First World War. They'd have far older equipment, you mentioned plenty of good examples for weapons for them to use, which they likely would. I think it would be cool to have a faction in a Alaskan fallout to use styer augs and p90s. Both guns have appeared before in fallout tactics and 2 respectively. Also. I imagine that the factions would probably be fighting over the oil in Alaska which would be cool and fit the themes of fallout because they would be fighting over the same resource that sparked the sino-American war which ended in nuclear fire.

I made up some factions for Fallout Alaska:
-Major faction: Sinos: the decentents of Chinese invaders and Native americans, Can ally with SSAR and Alasks
Major Faction: Новая Российская империя (New Russian empire) the remnants of the Russian Peasents who are from Siberia, the empire is half the size russia now is, with the entire western russia being annihilated thus not being a part of the New Russian Empire, can ally with Canada Rangers and Alasks
-SSAR (Soviet Socialist Alaskan Republic) a combination of Russian Tourists and Chinese invaders which are ruling with a stalinist regime, Can ally with Sinos
-Canada Rangers (kinda like Desert rangers just in alaska) willing to help anybody in need, polite as always, always say sorry to their victims, Can ally with New Russian Empire
-Alasks: a Native american tribe which were staying at a ski lounge when bombs fell, the Last A in Alaska fell off when bombs fell so their decentants thought they were in Alask instead of Alaska, they live isolationist in that ski lounge, throwing snowballs at anybody they saw come near and worshiping Snowmen as Totems and Statues, can ally with Sinos and New Russian Empire
Major faction: NUAA(New United Alaska Army) pretty much US army with white camo combat armor and laser rifles, can ally with Enclave
Enclave: Just watching over everything, kinda like House. Can ally with NUAA

I think it more likely there is a game setting setup around the Puget Sound from Seattle in Washington to maybe as far north as Vancouver Canada, but considering the proximity a Alaska DLC might be possible, possibly centered around the all important Anchorage, and the overall Anchorage Municipality which is a good looking area for a game map.

All of those factions would be great, but as you stated being a pre-war war zone would also mean the brotherhood of steel would have sent a chapter there aswell, as they sent chapters everywhere and as fallout 4 introduced the airship which is something the brotherhood used a long time ago to spread out chapters, so with the oil, prewar tech everywhere and how isolated the region would be along with remnant chinese tech, american tech and the abundance of remnant army personnel i could envision the brotherhood would move into the region while roger maxson was in charge still and making the remnant potential allies, new recruits or just brokering a peaceful treaty to allow the scavenging of prewar tech

@@TheOmegaInitiative well mate its an overdone faction but with the lore it would fit in alot more than most pf us would like, hell if they did the brotherhood.....I would like to see one that splintered from the main objective like fallout 3 again, ya know one that joined the remnant as heavy troops or the natives for the way of resources, a splintered group that would be willing to leave and become allies or join the enclave as we all know the company bethesda wont ever leave the brotherhood but itd be good to see a vastly different style or version of mentality of the faction

Maybe the goal of the Enclave could be to take over leadership in the army. Doing a coup or something like that.

Honestly i would love to see fallout expand on the lore around Denver and the surrounding area (Yes i live in the area) but in real life the airforce base in cheyenne, wy (100 mi north of Denver) holds the 90th missle wing and is heavily rumored the the two guys with the keys are located in our Base plus we have the countries largest oil and coal supply in the lower 48 states

Idea : What if the Mojave Chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel won in Operation Sunburst and Father Elijah still remain as the Mojave Brotherhood elder (there is reference from the HOI4 mod Old World Blues).
