    what a cracking venue for a club match..very fair even pegs... was i the only one watching this thinking 'small waggler 12ft rod all day long' ....? kept you busy all match trying different approaches... nice one

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  2 года назад

      Hey it may well have worked but lifting and lowering the pole definitely helps get a few bites which is faster than recasting. That said the waggler can be deadly when spraying casters but I only took the pole with me, just wanted to keep it simple not knowing the venue.

    Ecclsfield pond was the first time I ever fished. It belonged to the working man’s club at the time. My uncle took me there when I was just six years old, I caught a roach and a small Rudd . I am in my late seventies and have fished all my life and still enjoying it.
    Well done John on your catch and bringing some old memories back for me.

      That's awesome Peter, I'd never seen the place before this day, it's a lovely little pond I assume it was an old brick works or similar? I think the new owners are trying to open up the bank that was to my left at some point and have been doing a lot of maintenance on the rest of the venue in recent times. Lovely natural fishing and there are some very big carp in there. Glad it envoked some happy memories for you, Tight Lines bud.🎣

    Nice video John 👌 subscribed, and have been watching a good few of your uploads 👍 I do love my hemp fishing, especially at burn road pond on the York book, best hemp fishing venue I know! had plenty of 40lb+ bags of roach on it with a number of big 2 pound roach on it, my best at 2lb 4oz. Something I always do when im off hemp fishing is to prep about half a dozen or so nice sized grains of it 😉 because as we know its fidely to put on the hook, and its all time consuming, especially in a match situation! just a little tip for any anglers who fish with hemp seed who might not have tried this?? I get a small sewing needle and carefully push it through the side of the shell right the way through, I thread about 10 inches of 0.06mm line through the eye of the needle and pull the needle with the line through like I say about 6 to 8 grains of it pulling each one up the line. Then just cut the line with enough to be able to just do a simple cpl of knots tightened down to the hemp seed & snipped off as close as possible to the knot 🙂 then its easy to just slip the point of the hook under the line and pull it down to the bend of the hook. You can strike for England and it wont come off!!! and can catch loads of Roach on the same piece of hemp 😎 and I keep them in a little plastic box with some water in so the hemp dosnt dry out! great videos and keep up the good work! tight lines.

    well done . this dam is more of a pole venue but feeder and float are pritty good . it is stuffed with roach skimmers perch . just had a good stock of small barbel carp n chub introduced early this year n already started to grow pritty fast . my sn fished in a open match and stuck it out for the big carp that are in there and pulled a 23 pounder out for second place.. there is also some nice tench. daz the owner has spent quite alot of cash making this venue to wot it is with the help of Ken his farther inlaw and a few others . this venue can be hard to fish from time to time just like any other venue but usualy fishes pritty good . hope you have a good day John

      Thanks for the info Wayne, it's always nice to learn a little more about a venue from regulars. That's a big carp your son had out, it's not a way I can fish a match but for those brave enough, respect is due. I think it's a lovely little fishery and a credit to Daz & Ken. It could use a little bit of work to level the path, it was a hard push round to my peg with the barrow but fortunately it's not a long way.

      Yep tried to minimise the amount lost by choosing lighter elastic, keeping the pole tip low and breaking down a section further back but it's one of those things with small skimmers. It's a venue that'd suit you to a tea, a lot like railway in many ways with the variable depths around the pond, located in the middle of housing, the only difference is, there's fish that are willing to feed😉

    Hi just subscribed really enjoyed the video. Used to match fish 10 years ago but work commitments forced me to stop. Probably time I got started again. Could you tell me why no pellet, meat or corn was used. I always thought fishing in summer on lakes with maggots and caster was a negative start and brought too many small fish in. I used to catch 90 percent of your net on the whip straight in and out on maggots or caster. Has times changed?

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  2 года назад +1

      Hi Paul, not much has changed in the last 10yrs but having never fished this venue before I had limited information which suggested most matches were won with silvers on maggot or hemp. I tried the fjuka pellets but the response was slow, however I'm sure if you fed micros and fished an expander the skimmers would respond. It's not a commercial Carp fishery though there are some big carp in there so fishing pellet or corn in favour of maggot or caster is a case of risk vs reward IMO. Let's not forget though there isn't a fish that swims that won't take a maggot. Thanks for the sub and enjoy my back catalogue (plenty of whip fishing in other videos). Tight lines🎣

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  2 года назад +1

      All the manufacturers make decent poles so it depends on your budget Paul but I always go for Daiwa these days as spares are never an issue. Many of the UK made Daiwa poles interchange with each other. The G90 I used on this video is my backup pole and it's fully compatible with my Tournament Pro Sunday best pole so it gives me plenty of spares at a much cheaper price, isn't much heavier (only notice it after 13m) and they are mega strong so I use it for margin carp fishing, on windy days, banks with concrete etc to prevent expensive breakages to my tournament.

    I must admit I clicked you at about 21Lbs. I know the skimmers did come up small for a while but the Ide and the Bigger Skimmers and the Roach did make it look at very low 20's. • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  2 года назад

      Cheers Peter, I agree with your comments, losing fish drives me mad, I swapped out to my lightest solid elastic on the skimmer line but it still happened at times, just one of those days. Maybe the fish were hollow. We were told hemp was a great bait in there but I'm not sure I was on the right peg to fish it, Rob had 8ft at 5m, it might have worked for me in the deeper swims, in hindsight I should have maybe set a maggot line at 6m to my right instead 🤷‍♂️

The G90, well let me tell you, I bought it as a backup pole to my Tournament X CU as it all interchanges and thought, I'll also use this on windy days, for margin carp and winter or anywhere it might suffer some damage instead of risking/ruining my Sunday best. I' picked it up 2nd hand for a snip, immaculate pole and at 13m I really can't tell the difference between it and my tourny, they're a bargain mate, especially 2nd hand, go for it.
