I got mine when it came out in 2005. I shot approximately 430k frames with it. I went through Mark II, III and IV transition, sold them all, had a brief encounter with Nikon and finally moved to Fujifilm. 5D classic is the only DSLR I still own. This camera holds a special place in my heart, I think I will keep it even if it goes belly-up. Great video! Enjoy this piece of photography history.
Wow, that's quite a journey that you have with the 5d and other cameras. Also thank you for the compliment, really means a lot. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
I've had my 5D since it first came out. I've used it for weddings, model photos, general photography, landscape etc. Finally for event photography. I had a back up body 20D for weddings and I even carried a compact for emergency back up. It only let me down once when the mirror came off, but it was repaired and is as good as new. I'm retired now and not really into video work, mainly because of all the editing, so I can honestly say, I've never really felt the need get another camera, though I also used medium and large format film cameras years ago. All came and went, only this one remains. I just love this camera.

I bought this camera used one year ago following relentless search. It's a gem. The output is fantastic, beautiful colors giving a smooth feeling. The AF is little weaker than 5DII which I also own however, it's manageable.
Yeah, finding this camera for a good deal is getting harder and harder since more and more people are also looking for this camera. That said, it does still indeed deliver great results with very unique colours and rendition. The autofocusing system is indeed a bit behind but once you are used to it as well as know it's weaknesses, it's really workable and reliable. :-) Thank you very much for watching and also for sharing your story, very much appreciated! @@DavidCuhls I have the Mkii which I purchased a couple of years ago. I think its a great camera and I am very satisfied with the photos, I just wondered if the classic was worth buying for me too. However I can see that it is getting harder to find good classics. They are getting rather expensive.
@@thorsrensen3162 Yeah, they are indeed getting more expensive as people are now looking at older cameras for that vintage or unique look that modern sensors don’t really have anymore. I’d say if you’re not really serious or looking into getting the vintage digital look or some classic colour science, the 5d mark II is still a good camera and not to mention, the 5d mark ii’s colour science is also pretty good and unique. I’d say, if you really want to experiment with the 5d classic, really be patient and wait for some good deals that will fit the budget. Once you get your hands on it, I am sure that you’ll like the colours that’s coming out of the camera. However, I don’t think it will replace the versatility and the quality of the 5d mark II that you have. I’m many ways, you will still be able to use the 5d classic as a backup camera to that or even as a primary walk around camera. But in many occasions, the 5d mark II will definitely be more reliable for you. (Hope that made sense 😅😅)…
How funny. I just pulled mine out. It really does take magnificent photos. The only thing I would say not to use it for is fast action. Even in low light, with DXO raw…it gives its high ISO new life. The weak AA filter really gives the images a sharp look despite its low MP. I’m of the opinion that low dynamic range AIDS in good photographs. Highlight or shadow recovery in modern cameras allows people too much flexibility that creates weak/flat images IMHO. This camera does Really amazing stuff.
Yeah, this camera still delivers really amazing results and sometimes the results can still surprise you… The way it renders the tones and process stuff, it’s very unique and gives another perspective and character that you sometimes weren’t expecting. :-) Thank you very much for watching and also for your time in sharing your thoughts and experience, really appreciated it. :-) I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
Slide film only gave you like 6 stops on something like velvia.. and yet it was what people used for landscapes for ages and it's legendary. The windows XP bliss background picture was taken on velvia 50, even.
Who would have thought we’d ever be nostalgic for particular types of digital sensors? 😂 I just bought a 5D classic myself and am loving it. It’s far more like shooting film on my old Canon Elan, and I have some L glass to work with. I mostly shoot 120 film, and have otherwise long been satisfied with my Canon T3i for digital. The 5D looked like a good intro to full frame, and at 200USD it has been a revelation. I had been thinking the next logical step for me was medium format digital, but now I’m rethinking that. You’re 😅absolutely right - 12 megapixels is quite capable if you’re not pixel-peeping. Cheers!
Congratulations on getting the camera and I am glad to hear that you are liking the camera. Yes, it does sounds weird indeed to feel nostalgic about a particular camera sensor but as technology evolved fast (especially in the past ten years), aesthetics, characteristics, styles and looks also changed over time. Older sensors can therefore because more nostalgic and also delivering unique look in the same time. The 5d classic is still a good camera that still delivers great results if used properly. I agree with everything that you said. I transitioned from video to still photography over 20 years ago (I know, the opposite of most people), and I currently do limited professional work with a 5D III and IV. I bought an original 5D used around 4 years ago, and I love the images that come from it. In most cases, the dynamic range and the number of focus points do not impact what I'm shooting. Yeah, I totally agree with you that once you start shooting, the dynamic range and the number of the autofocusing points just doesn't really matter as you become more aware of what you camera can shoot and more importantly, the subject that you are photographing. Nice video. I want to know how was different image quality and characteristic files between Canon 5d classic vs Nikon D200? I have D200 and never use 5d classic. Thank you.
After using both, I would say that apart from the difference between the full frame look and the crop frame look between the two cameras, the 5d classic has more of an analog tone to their images, especially if you shoot JPEG. If you shoot RAW, however, the 5d classic will have a bit more dynamic range. The D200, though a very capable camera, still has more of a digital look. Despite having done videos about both cameras, it's very hard for me to precisely explain... But just say that the 5d classic has more of a "character" to their images with the analog tones, a little fade, not too contrasty yet with a nice touch of minor red saturation that makes the image also feels a little earthy and warm compare to just kind of an old digital look of the D200 (which again, the D200 is still a great camera, it just seems very basic digital look when compare to the 5d classic in my opinion).... Hope that helps somewhat. I thank you very much for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

Thank you very much for watching and also for the kind words, very much appreciated it! :-) Regarding your questions, I edit my images in Adobe Lightroom, I mainly just adjust recover a little bit of highlights, boost the shadows slightly and make the blacks a tiny bit more black and the white a tiny bit more white. Then I just play with the colour temperature depending on if I want the images to be a bit warmer or a bit darker. Then on some occasions, I do adjust the clarity slider depending on if I want the image to have a sharper look or a softer look. Hope that helps somewhat~~ :-) I thank you very much again for watching as well as for the kind words. I wish you a great time, stay safe ad have fun shooting! :-)
@@DavidCuhls thanks for such a detailed reply. I'm still learning the basics of how to edit, and guides such as this really help. I'll be following for more interesting stuff
I would say that the 5d classic has more of an element warm tone yet still retaining a bit of the matte look. The 5d mark II has a rich warm tone as well but also has really good red rendition and skin tones. The 1ds mark iii has a really neutral cool matte look. The colours are very accurate but contains really rich details. Since it is a very old camera with a very old low resolution sensor, the RAW file straight out of the camera is 72 DPI (and 240 DPI when converted to JPEG). Is it worth the risk buying this camera for under 400usd? Or just save a little bit more money, buy a little bit more latest fullframe camera(canon 6d mk i) low shutter count, a very good condition one, be safe of camera failure in short time and no need to upgrade for many years. I am a beginner, I love taking low light shots with my phone(hand held/tripod) and I am into astrophotography. Most suggestions I get is that I should buy a aps-c camera under 300usd and i get it that I need a camera just to start practicing. I like this camera because it's fullframe, under 400usd and a lot of budget lenses to choose.
Get a 6D if it's your first camera and they're near in price. Higher iso performance, few more megapixels, and the more modern better type and SD cards.

11:12 Well, the 4K30 is around 250mp per second. 4K60 ~ 500mp/s. And usually each 4k frame doesn't really look that great. Just saying ... 12mp can be plenty enough for social media and stuff. Huge prints, large screens - not really. Even 20mp is becoming a low resolution now. If you want your image to look exceptionally good on a big 4K/5K/6K/8K screen (40" - 88"), it needs to be oversampled. There's no way around it.

@@DavidCuhls Thank you so much and appreciate your video and content. Cheers.
Is it possible for you to do a POV Street Photography shooting with the 5D but only JPEG straight out of the camera with 0 editing
They say that the JPEGS out of this camera have this Film Analog look
I will be thankful if you can do this POV
I still own, use, and love the 5D I bought in 2006.
Oh wow, that's great to hear! Yeah, the original Canon 5d is still a very capable camera that will still deliver great results yet still very reliable! Thank you very much for watching and also for sharing your story, very much appreciated it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
Very cool, that is getting your money's worth!
can you recommend a budget speedlite for 5D classic as it struggles indoors
I use my 5D - C with a 28 - 135mm EF lens for Trainspotting!!!
Yeah, the 5d classic still delivers good colours for it and you have a decent setup for train spotting. ☺️ Thank you so much for watching as well as for sharing your story, very much appreciated it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting ☺️☺️📸
I feel pretty much the same way about my recently acquired D700. Very simply photo only 12mp camera.
Yeah, there is something about using more photo-first camera and also older cameras in general that still delivers great results yet keeping things to the essentials. Gives a "new" refreshed perspectives sometimes. :-) Thank you very much for watching and also for sharing your story, very much appreciated it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
Really like your images. How do you edit?
Thank you very much for watching and also for the kind words, very much appreciated it! :-) Regarding your questions, I edit my images in
Adobe Lightroom, I mainly just adjust recover a little bit of highlights, boost the shadows slightly and make the blacks a tiny bit more black and the white a tiny bit more white.
I'll be following for more interesting stuff
how the the 5D classic and mark ii compare to the 1Ds Mark III in terms of color interpretation?
I would say that the 5d classic has more of an element warm tone yet still retaining a bit of the matte look. The 5d mark II has a rich warm tone as well but also has really good red rendition and skin tones. The 1ds mark iii has a really neutral cool matte look. The colours are very accurate but contains really rich details. I am not sure how to really illustrate it that you can imagine it but I hope it helps… 😅😅 Thank you so much for watching as well, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! ☺️☺️✌🏻
😊 can you help me to know DPI of this camera #canon5D #fullframe it have 72, 90, 240 or 300 ?
Since it is a very old camera with a very old low resolution sensor, the RAW file straight out of the camera is 72 DPI (and 240 DPI when converted to JPEG). I am not sure about the JPEG straight out of the camera though since I don't shoot JPEG with it... I hope that helps though. Thank you very much for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
Love that first Rotterdam picture
Thanks for watching and also for the compliment, really means a lot. ☺️ Rotterdam is a very beautiful city to begin with, good photo angles are everywhere.
Thanks so much again for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting. Happy holidays! ☺️
@@DavidCuhls i lived there from 1977 untill 2017. Still love that city very much.
Wish you to the best, these days.
Higher iso performance, few more megapixels, and the more modern better type and SD cards.
yes an older DSLR can also do a good job.
Yes indeed it can when used properly. They can also be very reliable and still more than capable even for today's standards. Thank you very much watching and for your comment, really appreciated it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
I thought HD footage was only 2mp, not 8mp
What's your systems configuration
In normal daily use with this 5d camera, I use the ef 16-35mm f/4.0L Is, ef 50mm f/1.4, ef 85mm f/1.2 L II, and the ef 24-70mm f/2.8 L.
Hope that helps, thank you very much for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! ☺️☺️
