Well, this is just pure beauty. James' velvet voice and those stunning chord transitions, full of 7ths, 9ths and God only knows what else, bring a lump to my throat.
Mr. Taylor, your voice and guitar are an inspiration to generations. At 55 I picked up a guitar for the first time in hopes of being able to move my family the way your music moves me. Thank you for the music of my life.
Not only one of the greatest singers, greatest songwriters, and greatest performers....but, a super nice, polite guy. Met him twice. He's a real American treasure. Hope I get to see him again soon. Such a good dude.
Dear James, you have surpassed yourself, you know how to touch people’s souls and make them move for a song heard a thousand times but now it’s like the first❣️thanks my friend ❤️
James has that face of life and wisdom and experience of all he's encountered in his love life. I have to admit some jealousy of James, he's had hard times but he's also had years of being loved and idolized by his millions of adoring fans. Now that has to put some warmth and a glow into your heart. Love you James Taylor.
You will always be my favorite singer & songwriter. In high school we used your song at a mass. I prayed every day for you to overcome addiction and my prayers were answered. Thank you for this song, my new favorite version!
James, Your great vocal talent is every bit as strong as it ever was. Your ability for telling a story through song has an irresistible way of causing me to listen and understand.
Absolutely beautiful 😻. Brings me back to the 70’s, perfection💜 and such an appropriate song. Thank you James. Have a safe and wonderful holiday season with your precious family❤️
Same here. No family here near me. My mother died in February, and my dad several years ago. Then, my girlfriend of 4 years split up with me before Thanksgiving. Lonely times are here temporarily.... This has been one very hard year....
James Taylor-you have me all teary eyed and helped make this a wonderful day. This is one of my fave songs of all time as are many of your originals.Oh my heart....thank you so much for this and the introductory verse makes this song even better.
James, from sweet baby James I sang to my son a baby James as a lullably in 1978. Then to Country Road and You Got a Friend. Fire and Rain went onto the story of my life. Timeless.
This music from James Taylor brings so much love deep understanding what is worth in my own life what keeps the world moving on in a good way .Thanks a lot for all music from James Taylor, especially this album .To hear more songs ....than the other elder songs .
Still there , over the rainbow , this is why we still are his biggest fans , from the day I first heard his "Fire and Rain" ,walking down a main Nairobi street, in 1970.
Love James Taylor’s interpretation of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”. To think they were going to remove it from the “Wizard of Oz”. Most famous and loved song of this iconic movie.💕💕💕
I am a great fan of James since the 70's and also musician. I play some songs since then like 'You've got a friend, Close your eyes, Shower the people, Long ago far away, The secret of life' but this guitar arrangement is so beautiful with his pure voice(working on it) Unbelievable this did not make it to the album. Happy that it's on You Tube!
I love everything you do. I have listen to your book. It’s great that it is you doing the reading of the book. I am so impressed how you turned your life around. Your son is so talented, you can close your eyes and it sounds like you. Take care be safe. I am looking for the rainbow 🌈.
I'm just moved, uplifted and awestruck by this version of this lovely song. Mr Taylor, you remind us that there is always something new to offer, and find, as we journey through our moments, days and years. Keep doing what you're doing sir.
Hi James, Found the Rainbow Looking four over!!!! Very happy attribute you lend to the quality of the song, you always have a voice that I can't resist! Thanks, Gayle
Such a beautiful song James! Your music is so calming and I am so glad so many of the younger generation still love to listen to you, my son being one of them. In the late 70's, early 80's I played your music to calm the house down. It was not only soothing for my children (get them to sleep faster) but also when my friends would see me grab a James album they realized it was time for them to leave except the two that stayed to play cards. Thank you for so many years of great music. Happy New Year to you and your family.
Iz sang this and I cried - Same here. The tone of JT, is amazing. it must be in his pipes and the resonance in his head that makes this voice spectacular.
OVER THE RAINBOW - making another 'standard' all his own. Getting goosebumps - from the song, and from a 'synchronicity': I'd just speaking with my wife about Oscar Peterson. How we saw him at Winnipeg's 'Centennial Concert Hall' -- an audience of more than a thousand of us -- back in 1984. To this day "the best concert we have ever seen." Oscar without his famous trio, 'alone together' with jazz guitar giant Joe Pass. I recalled to my wife how Oscar could improvise a solo so that "every note's a chord." My wife asked me if Oscar had recorded 'Over The Rainbow'” -- after I had mentioned that it had been voted No 1 on list of 500 popular songs, in a couple of late 20th century surveys. So. James Taylor's Facebook page just shared this tonight: OVER THE RAINBOW with a take-your-breath-away solo guitar arrangement that is stunningly beautiful - and with every note a chord! New progressions that flow with an organic wholeness only James Taylor could impart. Deepest thanks for sharing it with us now (and not holding back for inclusion on 'American Standard II' - 2022) [Favorite comment below the video] Joe Human (5 hours ago) The 2 down votes are from the Wicked Witches of the West & East. Thank you very much, James. You are a truly awesome person and a fantastic singer. I’ve been a fan since the 80s and have never once been disappointed or regretful. Best wishes to you and your family.
My husband and I have met him at several concerts since he is nice enough to sit on edge of the the stage in the middle and end of his concerts. He seems almost spiritual in his nature.
My favourite one since I first listened to Judy Garland when a child. Your version and Barbra Streisand's are the BEST, both singing it complete, what I really appreciate. LOVE It, James! You made me cry again. So beautiful! Gracias from Spain.
We buried my Dad yesterday, and then I heard this song on the way home from the service. What a beautiful rendition. Thanks for bringing me comfort on such a sad day.
Oh wow! 😳This is beautiful!😭 I was not expecting to hear the first verse, so seldom heard, and I was amazed at how much emotion I felt listening! Thank you so much for remaining true to the original words written. This is truly beautiful. 🙏
They laughed at me because I listen to JT's songs they always tell me I'm too young for this. What did didn't know is that I'm looking for a great music and I find it in him. When I say good music, it's always JT🥺💜
Thanks very much! This is a great surprise. Love the guitar arrangements. Put me down for a little vinyl version. It would be a great stocking stuffer if you decide to crank up the lathe.
Who else hits the like button at the first few chords? ♥️This was my dear cousin’s beloved song, and it was played at her funeral. She passed from a car accident at age 33. Every time I hear it, I know she’s up their singing along♥️
I agree!! Oh my word, it's so appropriate right now. Someone wasn't thinking! (producers). For the past few months, I have this on in my car (going nowhere) and have shared it with my sisters, friends, "heaven opens a magic lane" "a place behind the sun". It may be old, but It's very relevant and his voice, well...I have an unrequited love for him. LOL I always feel like he is smiling when he sings. It touches my heart.
Oh wow, that made me cry. Dangit. ..well, anyway your voice has, seemingly over the years, really gotten beautifully rich...lots of deep strength from your soul. I can't tell you what key you sang this in, but it's definitely a nice choice for your voice. The song selection surprises me, and yet, I really developed a new admiration for both you, and the song. Yay! Thank you once again! I so need , as do all of us, some divine inspiration, and you BRING IT! YAY GOODIE GOOD!
If you ever need your soul restored, just sit and listen to JT for awhile.
Just so. And perfectly expressed -- in so few words! thanks, Christi -- Mark B of the frozen North
SO TRUE!!!
You know it!
Always been good for me refreshes my soul
the man is pure magic
He's been good forever, but he has the greatest mature man's voice.
I like that he did the entire song. So many people don't.
In times of change and uncertainty, James Taylor's music is like a familiar cuddly blanket.
And, we shall not forget THESE chord progressions! Boy!
Not only one of the greatest singers, greatest songwriters, and greatest performers....but, a super nice, polite guy. Met him twice. He's a real American treasure. Hope I get to see him again soon. Such a good dude.

It is his heart resonance with ours.
I heard James' brother, Livingston, play 'Rainbow' maybe 40-45 years ago. He did a great rendition as well.
OVER THE RAINBOW - making another 'standard' all his own.

That introductory verse he mentions is really special.
Great guitar playing.
One slight typo, however, in the text.
The word ever should be never.
