LYRICS
Well, the sun is surely sinkin’ down
But the moon is slowly risin’
So this old world must still be spinnin’ ’round
Yes, and I still love you
So close your eyes
You can close your eyes
It’s all right
I don’t know no love songs
And I can’t sing the blues anymore
Yes, but I can sing this song
And you can sing this song when I’m gone
It won’t be long before another day
We’re gonna have a good time
And no one’s gonna take that time away
You can stay as long as you like
Only close your eyes
You can close your eyes
It’s all right
Oh, I don’t know no love songs
And I can’t sing the blues anymore
Sure, but I can sing this song
Yes, and you can sing this song when I’m gone Видеоклипы
I am quite certain that I have never publicly Commented on RUclips and only limited posts on other social media platforms. However, I have been a James Taylor devotee since 1969 and I have been to scores of his concerts over the years I just have to add a comment. My three girls were brought up on his music and my grandchildren are listening to it now, most recently as the center focus of my wife’s departure from this earth 12 days ago. She (Cloma) and I talked about this song a lot but in the context of being played and recognized at my funeral… Never thinking she would pass before me. Anyway… A beautiful song, a beautiful rendition by father and son in a song that’s seared (in the best of ways) into my memory and soul. Thank you for a lifetime of music, James.
We're so sorry for the los of your wife. Sending warm thoughts to you and your girls.
Sorry for your loss. This song has brought me much comfort over years of raising my 2 alone . I sing the high Harmony when I’m alone . This is a beautiful rendition.
How beautifully said!! Sorry for your sudden loss! You can be sure she knows and loves you for picking this amazing song. God Bless you🎉🎉🎉
You and Cloma seem to have had a most beautiful relationship and your soulmate will always be walking by your side in spirit. James Taylor always seemed like such a low key, loving person and his music gives me such joy and pause to introspect the meaning of my existence.

James Taylor is as close to being an American treasure as anyone can be.
Yes, I agree
Close? He IS one of the greatest American treasures of his era. A true legend of the 1970s and beyond.
Sing it James love you thank you forall the years of music❤and memories
So is Carole King!

I am so sorry for your loss, but what a beautiful person you are to share the love you had for your son for everyone to see! I have three boys, so thinking about your pain is right there in my heart❤️
I'm so, so sorry for your loss
❤❤❤
I’m so sorry you lost your child. You honored him beautifully with the music you played for him at his service, in your words here, and in the love you’ve expressed. ❤
Hugs, from one mother to another.
Only JT would thank the audience for making the night possible! He is making our nights possible. He is THE BEST!❤
I've never attended a concert where the performer hasn't thanked the audience and fans for making it all possible.
...."And you can sing this song when I'm gone".........passing the torch. Has a whole new meaning at this stage of our lives!
That part
YEP
Ben is already successful.

Stunning
My parents are both gone now but after my mom died, my dad and I got to see James Taylor together. Every time he’d sing one of my mom’s favorites my dad and I would hug and cry. It is such a beautiful memory for me. My dad was born the same day and year as JT. He had ALS at the time but wasn’t diagnosed yet. The stark contrast between his level of functioning and JT was striking to me. He died only a few years later. Can’t wait to see my parents again on the other side. ❤
My love for James Taylor stretches back decades. This is the first time for me to see his son singing and playing one of my favourite songs. 55 years have gone by, and I still love all of his music.
👍 DITTO - 55 yrs for me too! I was in my teens when I 1st started listening to JT, and other Baby Boomer’s music, like Neil Young, Bob Dylan, etc., and 16 when Taylor released this one. it’s also the 1st time for me hearing his son sing, and performing with him.
This song is so special to me, my mother was hospitalized June 1st, 2013, after several hard falls in 2012 & 2013, her kidneys stopped working, due to blockages in both intestines. I sat by her bed in ICU with my sisters and we sang to her often, this was one of my favorite songs to sing her, when she was in a coma. 27 surgeries and over 5 months in hospital, with a relapse of C-Diff in 2016, it’s 2023 and she is still here, she has been caretaking our dad who has dementia 🙏🙏🙏
I have never met anyone who has not been moved by the music made by the talented Mr. Taylor , his presence is so calming and peaceful ❤❤❤❤
When people who are biologically related and sing together, there is a magic undefined by words. This performance: Yes, yes and still again yes! 🤗🥰
I agree
I sang with my cousin and best friend---three part natural harmony=) Shocked the hell out of us lol
James is explicitly on his top vocal form
Very nice
JT 3:24 3:27 you and your son Henry did a great job on this song ! You both harmonize your voices , and guitars !!
my first James Taylor album was Mud Slide Slim. I was 16. Been to three concerts, and have loved him and his music most of my life. I am 71 and never knew he had a son. this is one of my favorite songs and to hear it with Henry was deeply moving. thank you James for being the music of my life. I feel truly blessed.❤
Just beautiful. The harmonizing gave me the chills. What great memories for father and son playing together. Magical moment.
What a fantastic "Christmas present", it's a present that keeps on giving and never needs to be exchanged!!
That's what did it for me too. Absolutely beautiful.
AGREE..Still have goosebumps from hearing it..Survived my teens w/ JT.. SBJ, One man dog, JT so many more..LOVE THE MAN..
And seeing it performed in person, is a moment you will never forget. My son and I had the pleasure of sharing that together. It was absolutely beautiful.
❤
Wow. He’s singing with a voice still untouched by time. Same beautiful, unforced, dead-center-pitched tone as 50 years ago. This duet with his talented son is a real STUNNER for sure. Lucky US.
Whether it is brother to brother or father to son , the combination of the two voices is always sublime.
His son looks just like him when he was young ❤
Not really. James beauty is timeless. Classic. Like a Renaissance portrait
Played and sang this most beautiful of songs to my 4 daughters many a night as a lullaby! It was always their and Mama’s first request when I’d return from some deployment in the Marine Corps. They are all grown now and we still share this together as a family! Thank you James for this gift!
He's always been my FAVORITE since childhood! His lyrics truly speak to me.James is a very humble man for all that he has!
Thank you for your sacrifice and service. Blessings
@ Ed Gillcrist. Thank you for your service and thank you singing this to your daughters. You couldn't have picked a better song and they will carry this all their lives.
Thx for ur service! My daddy died in the Army! He loved our country & freedom also!
@@danstein8305 u can say that again. Im a laugh whore & made a joke about he & Carly Simon I still regret I did a Don Rickles. James Taylor was so humble I will regret that joke forever, even tho he excepted my apology. Divorces r not funny!
There aren’t many musicians I like better.... glad to see a son following in his footsteps...
This version is lovely, just right, easy, not hurried like all the other versions, including James' many live performances. This is how this song should be sung, at about 66bpm. It gives you time to savor the melody and the guitar and take in the words. I learned to play and sing this when I was 15, right after its release and it's still my favorite 52 years later. Thank you James Taylor.
We played this song to open my father’s funeral. He was a lifelong James Taylor fan. It seemed very fitting.
Henry definitely has his father’s gift. That was the highlight of the show!
Doesn’t get much better than that singing with your child! Very special moment James💕
Always loved James Taylor. Also loved his brother Livingston Taylor.
I too have been a JT fan since the age of 13 when I used to listen to Sweet Baby James on the neighbors stereo while babysitting the their kids. I know Mudslide Slim came later but "You Can Close Your Eyes" has always stuck with me for the joy and sadness which it portrays. Later in my life, the emotional journey of losing my oldest son to mental illness and only recently clawing back a semblance of a stable, loving relationship with him has forever made this lovely song an anthem of sorts for our shared experience. James himself gave an interview years ago in which indicated that this song was one that "just came to him" like so many others. As such, the meaning is, to the listener, whatever he/she wants it to be. Seeing JT perform this with his own son cements my interpretation. I am eternally indebted to James for sharing this most beautiful of songs with the world, and me.
Did anyone else start crying when they heard this!!!! Oh my word its beautiful 😍
Oh yes tears are flowing
Immediately!
I did!
WHAT A PLEASURE TO KNOW THAT MY GREAT IDOL HAS A SUCCESSOR!!! I AM REALLY HAPPY.
I sang it this song to my first baby .. itbwas on the back of my 45 you've got a friend .. my 2nd baby was born I sang it to her and then my grandchildren ..it's something when someone has music that lasts for generations
When my oldest daughter gave me a great gift of taking me to Nashville to see him ..she was one of the youngest people there but it was such a gift and had been on my bucket list. I'll never forget it
James is a legend. I'm listening to him and learning/playing his songs since the 1970s. I still try to play them from time to time. One of the greats of this era.
Wow, I didn't know his son was following in his footsteps. I'm a huge JT fan and this has always been my favorite song. I first heard it in college in 1974, and I had tears. So glad our lives our blessed to have people like JT!
Beautiful 💕
I know I'm 63 and loved JT since I was 15
Son Ben is also an amazing musician
So simple yet so full of meaning and emotion. He’s a great song-writer and it was lovely to see him with his son.
@@debragiannini5864 Ben & Sally also sang this song with James at shows. Talented family!
About 39 years ago I rocked my first baby boy to sleep while I sang to James' album, (Mud Slide Slim.....) the song, You've Got a Friend!!!
This is one of my favorite songs. James Taylor is one of my favorite artists ....I used to sew and sing along to James Taylor in the '70s ❤
This is, in my opinion the very existential meaning of life... sailing gracefully into the twilight as you bask in the warm sunrise of an offspring, knowing you've done the best you could under whatever circumstances and curve balls this life threw at you😎
Bean listening to James Taylor since the early 70,s , 1 of the best 👌.
🎶🎶 so true...he's part of the musical fabric of our lives🎶🍻....I graduated HS in 78...the 70's were the best musically🎶🎶🙏❤
No doubt he IS the best James Taylor! An extremely hard act to follow!
Me too
Absolutely wonderful. I remember the first time I heard James Taylor, first year at university, sitting in a dorm room studying, when this voice came over the radio. I’d never heard anything like it and I’ve loved that voice ever since. Often, when I hear that voice, I’m transported back to that very quiet night and my sense of wonder at that clear, melodic voice. I’m delighted that the next generation may follow along.
Me too.

FATHER AND SON GOD GIVEN TALENT AMERICAN AND MAGICAL PEACE .28
I have been thru so much pain and sorrow it takes everything I have to listen to any music at all. Music was my life. Now my life is mostly silence.
Damn, that was great. The young Taylor has an incredible tone to his voice...wow!
I got emotional and teary eyed the minute they started harmonizing together. How beautiful....on so many levels.
Beautiful. When my son was a young child, I would sing Sweet Baby James to him as he go to sleep. He called it the cowboy song. "Sing the cowboy sing, mom" Lol "There is a young cowboy, who lives on the range...."
My mother used to sing this song to me before I went to sleep.
I sang it to my daughter and she also asked for the cowboy song...
I sang this song to my son and daughter when they were babies.. Lots of sweet memories.
His son has an amazing voice too. What a fantastic thing!
No he doesn't but he can sing. Harmony takes a good ear. He sure got.the same type of frame tho, and unfortunately, the hair.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written!
💯♥
Sang this song as goodbye in my rehab. 33 years.
Well ..Father , Son renewing a classic when songs meant something..
This is so precious on so many levels. Thank you, James and Henry!
I agree. Love this so much
I just love JT. My mom is in hospice, it was a rough day for us both so, I needed to hear this today as she finally fell asleep and there it was. Nothing like JT's voice to smooth out such a day. Thank you!
Sending warm wishes to you and your mom.
@@jamestaylor Thank you kindly. I believe I wrote that on Wed., 12 Jan. She actually left this world at home on 13 Jan 22 at noon. She now has no worries or pain, but I do. I've had a few spiritual experiences in my life, but this one was further so. Our ancestors may be dead, but damn if they don't come to retrieve their descendants when their own time nears - without a doubt.
Pease be with you ❤️
Love to all.
So happy to see Henry following in your footsteps but no one will replace the sweetness you gave to me when at Uni now a Grannie!Thank you James!☘️
There is something seriously wrong with you if you don't like James Taylor's music! Really!
Sweet Baby James... Classic... Lovely offspring...
I see a proud loving father smiling at his talented son...
Sweet Baby James was the song I sang my daughter Jamie to sleep every night. This is so beautiful. I am touched. James Taylor became my go to when I was 17 and I have never stopped loving his voice and the beauty, sweetness, sincerity and depth of spirit I feel while listening to his voice. Thank you so much for spreading your kindness and gift like wildflowers. You have made the world a better place through your songs. LOVE🎵 💕🎶🕊️🌠🤍
How brave Henry to walk in the old mans footsteps and to do such a great job. I can see your guitar style was taught by James to look effortless. Keep it going my man, you are very worthy 👍
Such sweet harmonies. And so much love in this duet.
Precious. How does this not have a million views?
James this is going to played at my memorial service. I’m not going any time soon I hope. but my husband and kids know I want this played.
I used to sing this song to my son at bedtime when he was little. Still makes me teary
It was my big brother who introduced this beautiful song of james taylor in 1986, he was a folk singer and so was i. I miss my brother everytime i hear JT's music.
Man, what a thing to be able to do with your father. Great version of a wonderful song!
What an influential person who is crazy talented and who has been loved for so many years. Yes folks this is real emotion and real song writing and real vocals with depth with both playing your instruments and sharing your unbelievable talent with us. Thank you Lord for making this amazing person. I wish you peace and health. Sincerely Tracy☮️ missourigirl65
Tracy, I cried listening to this obvious God-given music and bestowed talent from heaven. I said a prayer, thanking God for creating this exceptionally gifted man and his son, also, and the gift of music that permeates the soul and heals one’s hurting vibrations.
Thank you ❤️ so much Lord.. Yes dear Tracy..
I believe in God too..
God bless you and your family and friends allways 🥀

Wow!!! His son is amazing!!! What a voice!!!!
Thanks James. I had this song played at my husband's funeral in 1977, he was 31 and I was 28. He'd died suddenly of a heart attack (from previous one or rheumatic fever as a child - undiagnosed)
As a dad, I've had the pleasure of playing with my son on stage. Believe me, there is nothing more fulfilling. Merry Christmas James and to you too, Henry.
Thank you James and son-- I needed this year a widow missing my beloved husband

James Taylor is just one of our many legends, his music is timeless..
I am so glad that the torch is being passed on to his son and the younger generation will be able to enjoy the wonderful music that we had growing up...
Brings tears to my eyes along with the memories of when we had transistor radios that we carried everywhere we went..
Sweet. Poignant. Enchanting. What a gift to the world!
I've lost count of the time I sang this song to my children, grandchildren and my pediatric patients. Thank you so much.
Wow, you sing to your patients?!?! That's very special.
James, your music has been the soundtrack of my life. Thank you, Sir.
James doesn't run this YT channel and he doesn't read the comments either.
Just found this. Beautiful.🥰☺️
Wow! Amazing father & son! Now you two my idol
For my love who passed away 2 months ago.....I love you
I have loved James Taylor's music for so long since the first time I heard his voice!!
1971 - 2022 👍👏✌️👌
Me too!
What’s amazing is that even at his age, the quality of his voice is still so clear and beautifully, uniquely his.
Same for me. I discovered JT at the age of NINE in 1985! (It was to the song "Your Smiling Face")
Fantastic fabulous ....
I've listened to J T my whole life. I'm a guitarist myself. Glad to see his son carrying on with his music...
James needs to live forever. I can't imagine a world without him.
Sweet Baby James and son! I saw him sing in concert in the 70's, as well as Livingston! Bought all his albums...he is truly amazing..a national treasure!
I love James Taylor, been listening to him since the Sweet Baby James album. I remember a video of him singing this song with Carly Simeon oh so long ago.
Yes so sad that those soulmates parted. Love her so much😍
Henry had no choice in his talent, with Carly Simon as his mother and James Taylor as his father...............well you see the product!!!
Henry's mom is Caroline (Kim) Taylor. James and Carly have been divorced for more than 40 years.
@@jamestaylor Don't worry, You only have to repeat that about 20 more times on this post!

Father & Son, so touching! ❤️🙏
I have been an unconditional James Taylor since I was a child.
James' songs are timeless because, in reality, the leaders of the young do not die,
the quality of the lyrics, the melody, but also the artist in it, its authenticity, its gauntlet, sin aura, make James a part of this world, I no longer listen to the songs, which came after 1990,
I just adore this song! Henry certainly was blessed with great talent like his father.
I drove my old mercury comet with my dog Mabel in the mid seventies while I listened to JT …I will forever remember the feelings I gleaned
And forever remember Mabel.💜🐾🎶
Our dogs share the greatest experiences w/us.
And our sorrows, fears, tears, secrets. No better friend, or confidant.
Aside from Jesus, Himself. Who made sure He left us the best example of that, in fur, on 4 legs.🐕
Ride on, sweet Mabel.... ☺
Gorgeous. But I can't stop hearing Carly Simon's voice in my head. The young man has a gorgeous voice!!!
This is very very good. No better honor than to have your son follow in the footsteps of his father. They harmonize very beautifully.
James Taylor is one of the coolest and warmest people in the business.
You've met him?
That's a precious moment there, that his son will remember forever! I've always loved James and his music!!! God bless you both!
Beautiful, Father’s genius music shared with his Son. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
Long live that man ! Decades of beautiful songs & guitar playing. So talented & soulful. Best wishes to him & his family & to his great friend , the one and only , Carole King ! 🙏🥰👌⭐️
Oh my, Henry sounds so like James when he was younger, a great legacy to pass on. 🥰
Now i know jt has a son to pass on his legacy

Don’t they look like peas from the same pod ? !
@@raylairetac3378 two actually.
His son, Ben, also has the “Taylor” voice, as does his daughter, Sally. A very talented family.
My younger brother introduced me to James' music back in the 1970's. I recall my brother singing this song from time to time over the decades. It evokes such sweet memories for me, since I recently lost him due to a rare, incurable cancer.

James, Henry, you’re still my favorite singers. You can sing this song…✨🕊️🤍
I still prefer the one when he sings this song with his son Ben. But any time listening to James is never wasted.
JT's voice is so ever-present. Growing up as a kid in L.A. in the 70s, you'd hear him on the radio, and it's still magical. "Listen to me and I'll sing you a song, and the time will go by, 'til you never know where it's gone..." - There We Are (JT, 1977)
saw hin in Syd Aust early 80's,he had a reel to reel and harmonised with himself, just him, guitar and player.perfect pitch n sound, sometimes bein old is cool. You get to see the legends
Same here, but I was growing up in Carolina…I even wound up in South Wing after a suicidal-thing when I was a freshman at UNC, just like James did…
This is SOOOOOO SOOOO BEAUTIFUL
Thanks James your fan from the Philippines,we love your music.
