Fun fact: Spam is made up here in Minnesota. Austin, Minnesota. There's a museum and everything. Though, I don't recommend it if you wanna continue eating spam.

My ma is from austin and going to the spam museum (the original one) was a must do ever time we went to visit! I absolutely hate spam but that is my absolute favorite museum!
Another fun fact: During WWII SPAM colloquially became known in the UK as an acronym that stood for Special Processed American Meat - though the real name is just a contraction of Spiced Ham (apparently)

Spam is underrated. You should definitely try it. Like idk about spam musubi but my stepdad made a fried spam sandwich only once and it changed my mind entirely about spam ever since.
As a Hawaii boy born and raised, I never understood why people wouldn't give it a chance. Until I learned that most people outside of Hawaii ate it raw. 🤢🤢
Anyway, just fry it and it tastes so much better and the texture is so much better. You never know what you're missing out on.

@@RealSoccerFreak to be more specific, outside of hawaii that is part of the USA, everyone in my country cooks it first and I'm pretty sure most countries cook it first and usa is an exception, cuz lets be honest the average american don't know about spices or how to cook... I was so shocked when I discovered how bad at cooking average americans are, who cooks vegetables as they are using a microwave? No wonder kids hate broccoli...

As someone who grew up in Hawaiian culture and spent most of my childhood enjoying spam foods, this was an absolute joy to watch! Thank you Steven, it felt like a little piece of home!
i never had spam, so i wanted o ask what does it taste like? is it salty? or like nore mild?
@@tacotuesday7556 hmm it's sorta hard to explain. I will say it's rather salty. And quite squishy. I personally am bit such a huge fan of it in its own (raw) so I tend to eat it cooked with sauce.

Normally I don't go for ASMR, but I could listen to Steven crunching those croissants for ages (until I got too hungry and had to go out and get my own).

As someone who doesn’t really have cultural family foods in their background, I’ve found this series super interesting and have learnt so much about where foods come from and the cultural background to some of my favourites. Thanks to Steven for bringing new, exciting and delicious looking food to our screens!

spam musubi is such a good nostaglic snack for me. i was born in hawaii because my father was stationed there when he was in the navy. i remember i used to pronounce it "mooskuhbi" or "moostuhbi" bc i was so young 😭 truly a lovely snack to indulge in when i need something comforting

Homemade is such a good, beautiful feeling all wrapped up in one show. We didn't have many family dishes growing up, but these episodes remind me of family potlucks and cooking for everyone getting together at the holidays.

Here's an idea of a show for Steven, since you are an amateur home cook, when you make stuff for the show (homemade, tms) or cook for yourself, you gotta have quite a bit of leftovers or no-so-successful edible product, what do you do with it? Like when I test batch chiffon cake, there are way too many unsuccessful cakes to consume and gets boring real quickly eating on its own, so I'll turn them into cake pops, tiramisu ..etc. Every unsuccessful run in the kitchen is not a failure, just another foundation stone to make something better :) Like there are so many cook shows, but hardly any of them deal with less than prefect batch, so doing a dish from that angle would be practical and suitable for amateur homecooks.
