I saved RM450,000 within 2 years as a Big 4 manager in Singapore during my early 30s. I could have saved even more if I hadn’t lived just 15 minutes from the office or spent recklessly on food and other things-honestly, I spent way more than my Singaporean colleagues. You’d never save RM450,000 working in Kuala Lumpur unless you're a politician.

Thats why msians working in sg stay in JB. Rental rm1.5k~1.8k at Danga Bay(Woodlands border) or Forest City(Tuas border).

Great video, really breaks down the financials and lifestyle differences! I've been thinking about this move myself, and your points about the cost of living and career growth in Singapore are super insightful. However, the property and car ownership restrictions in Singapore are a bit of a deal-breaker for me, especially if you're not a PR. Also, the work culture sounds intense - it's something to really consider if you value a more relaxed lifestyle like we often have in Malaysia. Thanks for highlighting the pros and cons, definitely food for thought

Yes and no, Yes, if the person is single and not stay in SG...means must travel everyday to work from JB...the cost of living in SG so high..the rental is so crazy high that it is not economical to rent a room and cost bear by one person...and if you have family worse, the cost of education for PR child is also very high. No if you have family and with a a child with PR status and to rent a house, you need to have salary minimum SGD 6K above.

Frankly speaking I believe Malaysians are the winners here as compared to Singaporeans..
Able to earn 3.3 times more just across a short border from the comfort of your own country and there’s no need to serve many years of National Service and subsequent in-camp trainings (if you are a man).
Just work hard for a few years, save and invest your money properly and you could be heading for an early retirement back in Malaysia.. no such luck for a Singaporean..

Such a small thinker, you think 10 years later Malaysia will be cheaper than Singapore in terms of cost of living? You lucky you can still afford a meal in Malaysia due to the exchange rate back in Malaysia many can't even afford 3 meals a day due to very high cost of living now from food, transportation and accommodations. You can still find S$3.50 a meal in Singapore but in Malaysia it is at least rm15. Plus they have retirement funds to fall back on. What have you if you can save which u know most arrogant Malaysian would rather spend it on a LV. Bags. Singaporeans always plan no matter how poor they still can afford a roof. How many Malaysians like you can? Still got the audacity to make such a childish statement about them. Pathetic

    Another factor is TAX rate.
As an above average salaried working adult, engineers/finance/accountant etc..
Malaysia: Earns RM8k per month. Whatever more than 8k, it is taxed at a staggering 25%.
SG: Similarly, earning 4k SGD per month, it is taxed at 7%

Similar situation but I have worked In Australia for 15 years. Invested / saved and not have net worth of about RM5 million with some passive income . I also built up a good network and relationship in my industry and have obtained a job can work remotely. Planning to move back next year at age 42 while working remotely . even at a monthly salary of $AU5-6k post tax plus passive income that is more than enough to live comfortably in Malaysia. If I was to live in Malaysia and work I people never get these opportunities and savings . But it was not an easy path, lots of sacrifices and discipline was needed to get to where I am.
