    Well done Bella…Two months ago I was on a bike with my friend when we were stopped by some police officers. ‘Who are you?’, they asked me. I told them I was a Corps member. Showed them my ID card. One of the officers asked me what else I did apart from being a Corps member. I told them I created contents on African cultures. That was not convincing enough. He went further to be plain with his question. ‘Are you into Yahoo’. I laughed and said no. But they still took me to their station, where they checked my phone, looking for what they didn’t keep. I was later released without paying a dime. But the point is, why stop a young guy on the road, simply because you think he looks healthy and has an IPhone. Nigeria police system is a mess. And I hope it improves for better.

    I think, someone had to make this video. Much more than just a video on RUclips, this should be a revolutional content. My brother and I bought 10 doors worth N460k and then we drove into a police check point. They had us detained just cause we were young guys cruising in a Lexus 350 and had a taxi driver carry 10 American doors for us (the taxi driver was driving behind us). And this happened just last year in 2023, post Covid and post End Sars. After searching through our phones and then they found nothing, they started begging us to give them 5k because there was nothing to hold us to. We didnt consider sueing them cause we could've easily done that.

    The "big bosses" of the Nigerian police are not ready to deal with the issue of police brutality in Nigeria. It is bushmalistic, unethical, uncivilized, and shameful. Whenever cases are brought to their awareness, all we see is a dismissal video, and that is it. We don't know what follows. I think it is a shame for a police officer to ask people for money. The federal government needs to upgrade their welfare so that they can stop disgracing them publicly. Police chief, please stop your boys from harrasing us. We are not criminals.

    • @chikembanefo9784
      @chikembanefo9784 7 месяцев назад +3

      The police oga at the top are unable to act, because they know what the problem is. These police bosses are thieves, often withholding salaries of their officers. So when their officers commit crimes like extortion and even armed robbery, they mostly do so because they’re not paid, not well trained and certainly not well equipped. Instead of holding their oga accountable, the criminal police officers in their hunger m, choose to turn on the weaker citizens. This is of course not an excuse for police to commit crime, but who will prosecute? This is Nigeria, ALL law enforcement is corrupt and in tinubu’s government, criminals are even more emboldened.

    decentralization of any sort is bad in a corrupt and immature system. It would make tracking of inadequacies harder. Nigerian governors shouldn't be given such autonomy. The interpol is effective because it is centralized and effective. Divide and conquer is what put Nigeria in its present state

    We need something like the district attorney system used in countries like the US, an office that can provide checks to the abuses of the police.

    I can't entirely blame the Nigerian police for their unprofessional conduct; the mismanagement and corruption within the senior ranks have rendered them ineffective in their duties and pursuit of justice. Many officers are now performing menial tasks for politicians. Furthermore, a lack of emotional intelligence and the impact of poverty diminish their effectiveness. God bless Nigeria.

    In the US, you could get stopped buy a White Police Officer and be murdered under the guise of self defense, fear or mistake just for being Black, and it's implicitly legal as long as they claim or do it under the guise of self defense, fear or mistake.
    In Nigeria, you could be stopped by the Police and have your phone searched by the Police for being a fraudster, just for being young and ridding a nice car. Having lived in both countries, I wonder if anyone could respond and tell us about currupt policing in your country or the country you live in.
