It's hard for a really good singer to do a song this beautiful an injustice. I've heard 6 very very good versions. A couple not so good. Some versions I want to cheer on, some I want to admire their expression, one mesmerizes me, Shoshana has the only version where I feel compelled to give the woman a hug and tell her everything's going to be ok when it's over.
What is a singer? Like shosan bean -> Singing whose purpose is to express emotions using sound as a tool, not for sound. So, vocal training (chest voice) is necessary.
I love this song and the story it tells. I will comment, however, Shoshana Bean does a wonderful cover but you must also listen to Jordan Sparks cover as well as Morissette Amon's cover of this song!! You MUST! : )))
Alison Luff's version is much more emotional without sacrificing technique when it is often the norm to be more emotional technique is sacrificed somewhat. Alison's version has had over 1.3 million views since it was uploaded 6 months ago while Shoshana's version has had around 800,000 views within 11 months. While it may be true that quantity doesn't always equate quality in this case it surely does.
I disagree about Alison’s being more emotional. It’s a different emotionality: Alison is angry; Shoshanna is filled with sadness and regret. Both versions are lovely. More views =/= better quality.

I think Alison pitched too high in the end, Soshana did it way better. Her technique and acting of the song is on another level.

Why compare talented women? They are both beautiful singers. You're allowed to have your fav without insulting another artist.
Which part is the insult? The fact that Shoshana has less views? Comparisons are inevitable in music when people sing the same song.
Ehhh, Allison’s just feels a little too shouty for me, Shoshana has more natural vibrato and brings more of an interesting edge to the song
