    I have the canon R100 and I recommend this camera I think people just dont get it. At the end of the day a camera is a camera and it has all the bells and whistles you can ask for at this price range. What I enjoy is the simplicity of the manual mode allowed me to focus on the picture more than the settings. Which made it a very enjoyable experience all around for portrait and street photography. More dials and buttons might be great for others but more is not always better. The wireless features is also a bonus coming from an older camera this allowed me to edit photos in lightroom on the fly just by wireless transfer and you can adjust settings straight from the app.

      Is it worth it? How much did you get it? I'm a beginner, never used an actual camera. Thinking of getting one. The price is pretty cheap for this one where i live (420 euro with kit lens) NEW.
      Can't really find good deals here for used cameras, and that seems like the most value for money.
      The r50 costs like double the money here.

      @ yeah definitely a good step in the right direction. Good sensor and size apsc. You can use the new Rf and rf-s lenses with that body. That can be used on the higher end canons. I would say personally the prices for the new rf and rf-s lens are kind of high for my budget. Just make sure what kind of budget you can afford and grow with. Check the prices on lenses of each company and camera body’s that go with it. To make your decision, i hope this helps.

      @@Vibing_in_peace It's very infuriating researching this online since there are so many photography elitist snobs/nerds who will shit on any camera that's actually entry level.
      And the fact that when you research entry level cameras the results are always cameras that cost 1500-2000 for the body only.
      Online comments make the r100 and cameras similarly priced to it seem like they're completely garbage and i don't get it since it's specs are fine? It's biggest downside is probably the lack of touch screen? But who fucking cares. It's a cheap price, of course it will have compromises.

      @@astralgod6448 in reality no camera is a bad camera. I moved from canon and came back to lumix. I would say check out the lumix G7 it has the same features of the r50 with a micro four thirds sensor which is great! At the same price or less of the r100. No problems in low light, great prices on lens for the lumix m43 system.

      So quickly ? M series came out in like 2012-13. Long term it 100% doesn’t make sense for Canon to continue with the platform if they can move everything to one single platform that way they can put all of their effort into one single type of lens instead of multiple types of lenses. I’ve been saying for years on my channel that the M series was on its way out the door only to be told over and over I was wrong lol.

    • @Moustafa11
      @Moustafa11 Год назад +2

      @@RexxReviews I agree it wouldn’t have made sense to maintain two different lens mounts. That said, Canon has yet to make a compact interchangeable lens body on the RF mount. It’s subjective but given how popular the compact form factor is in cameras like Fuji X100V, Ricoh GRIII, and even the Leica Q2/3, which all have fixed lenses, I’m surprised Canon hasn’t tried to cater to that travel or street photographer with bodies and suitable interchangeable lenses. For photo first non-pro shooters, EF-M bodies and limited lens selection (from Canon & Sigma) still make sense. Personally, I still enjoy my M6ii and M200 while traveling when I don’t want to take my R5.

      I agree. Their current strategy of releasing inexpensive bodies with EVF and decent autofocus is a great way to get people into the system, and helps address the lack of RF-S mount - or RF, for that matter - lenses. (Yes, we can use EF/EF-S...and an adapter, which I believe misses the point.)
      Where Canon continues losing to Sony is in large part the breadth of available lenses, many of which are arguably better (linear motors, weather-sealing, etc.) than what Canon offers, and at less cost.

    For most people that are buying a camera after having use smart phone cameras, this camera wouldn't be a smart choice. The camera has too many limitations and lacks basic features that people are used to having on their cell phones. If keeping the price down to $500 is essential, you would be much better served by buying a used camera body and lens. By doing so, you could easily get a camera body that has built in image stabilization, a more user-friendly LCD screen and have better (and more) controls which make it possible to make crucial adjustments while the camera is held up to the eye. Both of you have contributed a lot of helpful videos for aspiring photographers and I have certainly benefited from your help since I've been dabbling in photography for 25 years or so, but this video comes across as more of a advertisement for the Canon and Adorama (which is a great retailer) rather than a solid review.

    Is the hot shoe capable of accepting 3rd party flash units? I had a 2000D (T7), and Canon thought it was appropriate to design an inexpensive, entry-level DSLR with a hot shoe that can only accept Canon brand external flashes. I think there may be one or two compatible 3rd party flashes, but they're almost as expensive as Canon. The 2000D probably can't even use the most basic flash that would work with it to its full potential.
    Anyway, it looks like a decent camera, and a likely successor to the Rebel line. Hopefully Canon is trying to make its product line more accessible to newbies, amateurs and people on a budget, not just with the camera itself, but also with lenses and other accessories that enhance the experience.

    I understand why advanced amateurs would lament loss of touch screen but I think the point of this camera is for people to just leave it in "set it and forget it" mode and proceed to let the camera do the work, all the while bringing in better images than their smart phone can deliver. Particularly as you get older you're less inclined to want to fiddle with sometimes detailed and complex choices.

    thanks to it's affordability, this camera got my daughter into photography...I would have loved a new mirrorless camera at this price point in 2010 and even today...I am still shooting Nikon dslr's and elder fuji and olympus, which I dearly love for the mirrorless experience, but the AF response of this RF 100 would be so much better then a Fuji xt1 or a Olympus em5. One doesn't need a flip or touch screen to produce great images :)

They are same price and size so I would be interesting to find in which cases would you prefer the APS-C cameras. Is it wildlife as they have higher fps and stacked sensor in X-H2s? Is it landscape with high reolution on X-H2? I expected Sony to domainate the portrait though.

    Since most of the recommend lenses are RF (fullframe) - I would rather look for a used EOS R. The camera is faster (R has 5fps with AF / 8 without while RF 100 is 3.5 with / 6.5 without), has touch/swivel and the 30MP from the 5D4 is better than the 24MP from the 80D in all areas (Low light, pixel size, Dynamic Range even if minimal,...)

    Does this have clean HDMI out? Will this overheat if used to stream for extended periods?
    I'm going to guess that without a flip screen it's not a very good fit for a budget streaming camera. At this price point I know that there have to be some compromises.
    I also heard no mention of image stabilization.

    NICE = LIKE :)
    ..but WHY didn't mention R50 as FIRST BETTER OPTION?
    - Totally trimmed to the base R100 is suitable much more for institutional usage like taking solid quality product photos and/or for driving licences, passports, etc. & basic fixed "studio" video usage for starting YTbers (best with ext. monitor) or for some interviews + quality webcam, R50 (= baby R10 ;) is IMHO first reasonable option for photo + video newcomer enthusiast - last but not least from this reason that her SoC HEART is Digic X (same as R10 :) instead previous 8gen in R100...
    - R100 = also OLDER APS-C Sensor => LESS Gain + LESS Dynamic Range + MORE NOISE...
    - DIFFERENCE between R10 -> R50 is MUCH MORE SMALLER, than between R50 -> R100 i.e. SAVING first $200 is the WORST POSSIBLE "investment"...
    => CONCLUSION: R50 is MUCH BETTER OPTION ( GOLD MEAN :) , than R100 HISTORICAL ZOMBIE (..Fixed Display, Older Main Parts + Many Others HW + SW WEAKNESSES...)

    It is always my suggestion to anyone wanting to get into photography, to get a nice condition, used Fujifilm X-T3… Which you can get for around the same price as the R100. The 18-55mm f2.8-4 kit lens is fantastic, and a used one is a few hundred bucks. That’s an awesome package for well under 1k.
    It’s the perfect tool for learning the ‘exposure triangle’ and the art of photography… And its specs still hold up (as does the build quality), so you won’t outgrow the camera as your skill level improves. I’ve had various Sony A7R models and currently own a Canon R5, but the X-T3 is the one camera I know I’ll never sell. It’s just fun and rewarding.
    I know the point of this video is buying new gear from Adorama (apologies for hijacking it), but for stills photography, things haven’t really progressed since 2017. The X-T3 or Sony A7III (if you want full frame) would be the way I’d go… But I’m just some guy in a comment section with no affiliate links, so take that with a handful of salt.

  • @matthieuzglurg6015
    @matthieuzglurg6015 Год назад +6

    No, just no.
    You can't be serious recommending the R100. R50, I totally get it, the burst rate and autofocus capabilities alone make it super worth it, if it's not the pretty strong video for the price, touch and flip out screen etc.
    But the R100 is THE SAME THING as a Canon M50 mark II, which itself is just a firmware update to the original M50. You can still buy the M50 for SUPER CHEAP brand new in stores, or used on KEH or MPB, either the mark 1 or mark 2 versions.
    It has the same processor, the same sensor, the same autofocus, the same video specs, but on top of that you get a bit smaller camera, a touch interface and a flip out screen.
    And if that wasn't enough, the basic kit lens bundled with it (15-45mm) is MILES better than the 18-45 RF-S kit lens. And the EF-M range of lenses makes a ton of sense for beginner users as you have very good entry level lenses that are good and cheap, as well as some 3rd party options from both Sigma and Viltrox.
    NOBODY should buy expensive RF glass for an R100, it makes absolutely 0 sense for a beginner user.
    The R100 is just a cheap and lazy way for Canon to get some ROI on the product lines of the Digic 8 processor and that older sensor while sharing parts with the M50 and the R50 to reduce cost as much as possible. There is literally NOTHING new with this camera, it's just an M50 with less practical ergonomics and an RF mount that doesn't have lenses for that kind of camera yet.
    no, no no and no. You cannot be serious recommending this, You guys litterally are the only people I've seen having a positive opinion of that POS while the previous gen, cheaper camera from the same brand is better in almost every way.
