Im a Singaporean but I think Singapore can be a good reference point but honestly Malaysia 's recent policy is looking inward - there are resources have that Singapore dont - so capitalise on it. Everyone is making progress and there is nothing to compare who is doing better or not, I look forward to more collaborations where both countries can benefit.

Exactly! Singapore life is about living middle class working 60 hours a week. Nobody wants that. Yes, you can be lazy and rich like Norwegians and some European countries. And yes, Malaysia can be like them.
I am malay,Malaysian. I dont think Malaysia will be able to catch up lah. M'sia got so much issues. For now, lack of visionary leaders , sad but true 😢

You don’t need to catch up. Just do your own thing and don’t copy Singapore. Singapore is small with limited resources while Malaysia is big with vast resources. You should be copying Norway, Australia and US.

A better question to ask is how long will Johor Bahru (and the surrounding suburbs in Senai, Pasir Gudang and Iskandar Puteri) take to catch up with Kuala Lumpur (including the Metropolitan area like PJ, SJ, SA and Klang). JB doesn’t even have an integrated public transportation system like RapidKL and RapidPG to begin with.

I think it is not about Malaysia "overtaking " Singapore but rather whether Malaysia can continue to developed to a level which can provide financial security, employment opportunity and a good standard of living . Singapore is and will always be a counterbalanced to Malaysia to ensure that Malaysia doesn't fall into the scenario cause by Dutch disease . Hence it is not about overtaking but rather complimenting the synergy provided by Singapore.
Totally impossible to catch up, a crystal clear example everybody can see the huge differences is the way each country conducts their parliament meetings.
Yeah LMAO when it's an authoritarian govt of course the parliament is silent and boring. Look at any developed country parliament. Have you ever seen the UK parliament? New Zealand? Australia or Canada? It's just as chaotic lol
You make a valid point about the term "catching up" being quite broad. It can refer to progress in various aspects like technology, business, or innovation. Both countries indeed possess unique strengths and face distinct challenges. Singapore relies on Malaysia for crucial resources like workforce, energy, and water due to limited land availability. Malaysia, on the other hand, offers quality resources at an attractive price point. Singapore excels in innovation, startups, and cutting-edge technologies. I couldn't agree more about the productivity in Parliament. It's surprising how even kindergartens can sometimes be more organized. There seems to be an excess of words and not enough action, with many discussions centering on who's at fault or headed for court. Only a select few seem genuinely hands-on in their approach.
@@natep6729we voted for it. So there is nth wrong about it as long as they do their job well and Singapore continue to improve and the citizen enjoys it.
The impossible part is the goverment. Ask Singaporean Malays to become Malaysians. No, regardless of how close their culture are, they wont want even if they become minorities in Singapore. So the cultural part can really be fixed when the economy pie is bigger. The government need to fix 1. Corruption 2. Governance 3. Policy making 4. Cultural difference 5. Upholding Law and Justice 6. Finance competiveness 7. Currency problem

Singaporean 🇸🇬 here, The issue Malaysia was too far back (which none of them mentioned in the video) is while Malaysia has a hinterland, population and natural resources, the key issue is the government politicking and like some of them mentioned equal opportunities and talent retention in Malaysia. How Singapore attract talents is equal opportunities for all based on merits and the means to attract talent into Singapore. This is something Malaysia has to really dealt with in terms of dissociating racial with politics, and given the fact that each development of the respective states in Malaysia differs, I would say it would be a hefty task to have an overhaul of the entire country on the entirety in order to catch up with Singapore (which I feel impossible given today's political situation in Malaysia and if possible I feel it would take fifty or more years for Malaysia to reach the Singapore's stage as of 2023) which stable and incorruptible government is essential in order for Malaysia to improve (which I feel the development in Malaysia are pulled back based on the bumiputera policies (somehow detrimental to having equal opportunities for all based on merits and not racially). In order for Malaysia to reach the stage like Singapore, here are those Malaysia has to do (which I may have mentioned earlier on): 1. Raising minimum salary for all Malaysians (to retain talent within the country) 2. Further improvement on meritocracy and doing away from bumiputera and race-based policies (which not only divides the population but impedes the country's socio-economic development) "Malaysia Malaysia" idea was the part some rejected that idea which that slogan do unify the Malaysian citizens regardless of race (no different from 1Malaysia, different naming but both means the same thing despite "Malaysian Malaysia was brought up by the late founding prime minister of Singapore Mr Lee Kuan Yew). 3. A clean, stable and incorruptible government is essential and crucial for Malaysia (means cleansing of corrupt politicians in Singapore standard). 4. The country has to be progressive instead of regressive in their developments (education, infrastructure, etc), meaning to say that it would be challenging and impossible for states like Kelantan, Terengganu (both states are very Islamic), along with Sabah and Sarawak (both which are still poorly developed as compared to other Malaysian states). 5. Language medium in schools will have to set as English instead of Bahasa Melayu (As subjects taught in Singapore such as Physics, Biology, Chemistry, History, Science, Math etc, are conducted and taught in English).
As a Malaysian working in SG, I agree with your pointers here. When i first come to SG to work is an eye opener to me, and i would say no wonder over 1 million malaysians would definite work here in all fields even still have better pay than a manager level in Malaysia 😂
There is one thing people forget about when talking about economics, is policy stability. A simple example, RTS with SG. If policy keep changing, no company will want long term investment in Malaysia.
My opinion: to get better answers, could also interview Malaysians living and working in Singapore as they have more knowledge and experience between these 2 economies (get a mix between different ages and working classes, and also length of stay in SG).
As a Malaysian working in SG, I always feel that SG is literally what Malaysia could have become.. MY definitely has all the potentials to become on par or beyond SG.. another way of saying it is, SG is a better version of Malaysia. There are so many things in common here, as in the people, the culture, weather, food, etc. When Malaysia is always proud of our multiculturalism, I see what true multiculturalism is here in SG. As long as the mindset of “ketuanan Melayu” is ingrained in most Malays (especially in the North), I think it’s gonna be impossible for Malaysia to truly achieve unity. #sadtruth
Both countries have different ideologies leading to a different outcome, Singapore focusing on meritocracy, while Malaysia emphasizing on the bumiputra scheme. The politics in the different countries result in various good and bad outcomes. Instead of being emotional and lament on whether Malaysia would catch up with Singapore, Malaysians should ponder whether they would have chosen the same path that Singapore took, which was the main reason why the country left the federation.
@@kokhiangho403 SG was kicked out by MY Federation, not chose to leave.. Please cross check the history. All these years Malaysians were taught with "tweaked" version.
@@markleong89, yes Singapore was kicked out of the federation because it wanted to go the meritocracy path. Actually, Klang Valley is not that crazy far off from SG. In terms of GDP per capita, Klang Valley is US$22,000 whilst SG is US$60,000 (~40%), this is on nominal not PPP. If PPP, it will be even closer. Also, in most rankings nowadays, SG is 1st/2nd in Asia whilst Klang Valley is 5th - 8th in Asia. If Klang Valley grows rapidly in the next 10 years with higher population, the gap will be significantly narrowed.
Erm...u do know that the fundamental differences between Singapore and Malaysia on how society should be, a Malaysian Malaysia vs a Malay Malaysia was what led to Singapore getting kicked out of Malaysia? That is why, Singapore is basically a mirror for Malaysia (and a slap in the face) on what the nation could have become, if only they have pursued a different type of politics. Afterall, it is basically one people in two countries (I mean half our founding cabinet were from malaysia) - same culture, history etc...but two very different outcomes.....Logical Conclusion: There can only be one reason.
Malaysia just need to focus on a few key industries where Malaysia already has advantage/strengths and raise economic complexity for all of them to a level that signficantly increase wages/salaries. Also, identify a few states to grow like crazy namely Klang Valley, Penang, Johor and Sarawak.
The BIGGEST GAP, that none of them mentioned is... EDUCATION. It's one of the most important premise to have / build better economic foundation. So in short, it's impossible for Malaysian to catch up.
So true... education first! With the right education implemented, the right mindset will lead the way. No point of building tall buildings and modern infrastructure. When... the people are not equipped with the right education/knowledge to exploit the benefits.
At first I felt education was an issue till I(singaporean) married to my wife(Malaysian) . When I found out her cousins are doctors and to my surprise their education begins from the kampung of segamat. With this,I don't think malaysia education is an issue and to add on, even with Singapore first world education I only manage to get up to diploma and I don't even have close friend or cousins who are doctors .
@kjjoe8339 it is not about where you got your early education first! It is the journey to pursue higher education that matters. And just like yourself... I am sure that there are opportunities for you to seek higher education and upskill yourself! But... unfortunately, you did not grab the opportunities due to some reasons that only yourself know.
@@fafafifufu what u replied is not wrong and also I'm replying on the premise of the initial comment which is about education. To add on Abit more details, the people mentioned are from low income background(their parents operates a small warung stall) and still becomes Dr and one of them become a professor in utm. Due to this ,my opinion on malaysia education has changed to positive and that is my personal opinion as a singaporean. In the end, the individual whom is getting the education also plays apart.
@kjjoe8339 for myself... I have always wanted to be a tailor since I was a teenager. But many art schools here in SG mostly offer fashion designing courses. Uninterested by the options offered, I put my interest aside. 15 years later, I met a local tailor who is willing to accept me as an apprentice. I am glad with the right guidance and knowledge. I am now a junior tailor at her tailor store. That is why, to me, education is important. It gives you the right sense of direction that you need to progress forward.

Prioritize Economy over 3Rs, Stop politicing. Minimizing corruption in any aspect, Gradually reduction in subsidizing... These may eventually retain some local talents and subsequently will encourage more FDI, R&D.. It may then be comparable to developed countries.
Singapore pegged their currency to a basket of currencies to remain strong while Malaysia dont mind the ringgit being weaker as Ringgit being strong doesnt mean economy in fantastic. So, im gonna save all my salary savings into sgd
Very true. I think Malaysian needs to wake up. MYR/SGD will never go back to 1 : 1 or even 2.5 : 1 like 10 years ago. Malaysia is a developing country where we produce goods. Singapore is a servicing country. It can't be compared. Keeping ringgit low is good for Malaysia economy, having Ringgit strong will only hurt Malaysia economy. The answer is, hedge your ringgit with foreign currency like usd and sgd to protect your myr current value.
most of items consumed in Singapore are imported. so make sense to them to maintain a strong currency. Malaysia on the other hands have to strike a balance between the need to make export attractive (money inflow) vs import cost of material/goods (money outflow).
Don't compare with SG because Malaysia has abandoned SG and since then it has been focusing to do the best for survival so Malaysia should also just focus to do whichever is necessary.
If Malaysia is managed like a MNC company. Put all race, religion aside. Zero tolerance to corruption. Promote Talent. Fire useless staffs. Invest in R&D. Improve our products. Rebrand. Work-life Balance. Social Responsibility. Possible? Nah~ not gonna happen.
Well. difference is in the MNC, you cannot vote who becomes the CEO, COO, CFO, CIO, GM, HODs and etc. But in Malaysia, the problem is those uneducated rainforest savages get to vote for their leaders and representatives who usually get appointed as ministers or policymakers.
The central inquiry shifts from a comparative assessment of Malaysia's economy against Singapore's to a more nuanced exploration of Malaysia's potential to undergo a strategic restructuring. This restructuring involves the pursuit of a more open economic approach, enhancing resilience in the face of global challenges, and striving for greater self-sufficiency. The emphasis is on Malaysia's capacity to adapt its economic and foreign policy frameworks to meet evolving demands and foster sustainable growth.
Obviously not. Singapore's economic policies will be deeply offensive to the Malaysians. And since our prosperity is rooted in those economic policies, they come hand in hand. You are not gonna attract those wealthy MCNs that Singapore did, unless you are willing to accommodate their demands
SG is too overly developed to compete with. Even the likes of Spain has no business with it, let alone Malaysia. 😅 What's more important for Malaysia is to escape the middle income trap, reduce poverty and improve education. That's it
The main significant difference in Singapore & Malaysia from the beginning is economic & social approach, where Singapore focus on meritocracy & welcome foreign talents. Malaysia however focus on affirmative action & rely on mainly locals only. Malaysia is doing well if compare with other nations, like around ASEAN that follow this schemes. However the different approaches had shown very different results... like other global cities, Shanghai, NY, Paris, London (before BREXIT). Further evidence on performance on the different approaches - Singapore is similar to USA vs old Europe (like Malaysia & most of ASEAN). USA has been able to supersede Old Europe with similar meritocracy & welcome foreign talents - comparably. With this set in place, the social dynamics will help bring huge progress & innovation.
@CalvinClive-ti4hd Nah, I think is good that Malaysians try to compare with Singapore, probably using their most dynamic cities like KL, Penang, JB or Malacca. That is how to improve. Singapore herself also compare herself in past with Asian Tigers, then HK, in 90s raised to Switzerland, and 2000s with other global cities like NY, Paris, London etc. We need good comparison to improve.

I think, Malaysia doesn't need to catch up with Singapore, because these 2 countries is different in term of size and geographical. In term of economy, Singapore is already established. But Malaysia is bigger in geographic. There is many more potential that a country like Malaysia can offer that Singapore can't.
I think it's best to increase the number of good quality channels and topics to see what's happening like this channel or like keluar sekejap, bfm, cna, r.age, says, aphd etc covering SEA things. Very useful hearing from the politician or analyst themselves instead of cherry picked short content information that can be turned into a easy yet effective in relaying a type of narrative creating unhealthy reality discourses. It's also important that information should be easier to digest information and readily available instead of being blocked by a paywall, language barrier, knowledge gap with available sources. Making it for the average lay person to knowledgeable people. News websites should do something like TLDR news summarizing what is happening and its implications. I'm a Malaysian myself, Malaysia is unequally developed. Old towns often would get left out with poor work opportunities, maintenance wise and either bad or absent infrastructures. An update of infrastructure around pedestrian, cyclist, public transport definitely should take hold. I lived abroad for a while in Europe from people not fairing well to the well off uses the infrastructure as it's a de-facto majority efficient means of transport even for near, interstate abroad travel. Projects that reclaim the roads also are made to retrofit section of cities and towns. increase the quality of life getting around. The 3R issue I think imo would come up several times over Malaysia's development as many view it as an injustice. That's pretty wide ,such as education wise, job opportunity wise, marriage wise etc. The public and the government I think need to analyze how and why it effect their lives in a civil way to solve the issue instead of ignoring the issue as its viewed minor until now, social problems like interracial marriage, changing one's religion among bumiputera's especially malays, hiring problems like language preferences. It has become amplified ever worse ever since covid and during the recent political turmoil with financial stress motivating it.To reverse it will take time, wrong or right is up to you just be healthy about it.
As long Malaysia cannot attract investments of paying attractive salary to retain Malaysians, most will work in Singapore and other countries provide better opportunities. Corruption is like cancer must be eridicated. Government policies include education must be consistent and not flip flop like prata. Malaysia government need to gain trust from own people work together and international countries. Then we talk about playing catch up with Singapore . With natural resources and bigger land space, Malaysia leaders should take advantage but instead lost to Singapore.. Opposition always trying to bring down the government, how can Malaysia prosper?
In my opinion, while i feel it's true politicking and corruption is one of the biggest obstacle we have here, another aspect that is often overlooked is the EDUCATION system here. It's sad but i feel Malaysia probably can only catch up after 50 years. By then, Singapore would've already moved even further ahead.
Maybe start by comparing between Kuala Lumpur (including PJ, SJ, SA and Klang) and the other cities such as Penang, Ipoh, Melaka, Johor Bahru, Kuantan, Kota Bharu, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu? I guess the competition will make more sense and healthier.
Even South Korea Taiwan Japan can't keep up with Singapore with that very tiny country. Malaysia should compare with Taiwan which is nearly the same population as Malaysia
As a Malaysian I see this for the reality that we will never be able to go anywhere near what Singapore is no matter how long. Of course we have a certain Malayalee Kutty who was the prime minister of Malaysia for more than twenty years to thank for.
Impossible sorry, in my company when the vision for System Automation was planned to complete within 5 years, they really roll it out even though it is full of bugs, issues, and manual works. Sad to say, they are starting to cut headcounts now. I believe Malaysia may take like 8 years, 10 years for the automation to be fully working. Its not a bad thing though in my opinion. But generally, if I were to compare ..... the pace is much much much faster than Malaysia.
Not sure which industry you are in but I believe human cost plays a factor in terms of attracting employers to automate their system. In SG due to high human cost the automation captures the benefit but in MY because the human cost is cheap, company would just think of hire another headcount rather than think of way to automate it. In short the incentive factor is just not there

If catching up to Singapore means having to pay SGD100K or RM100Kfor a COE just to buy a car.... No thanks. Or if it means I can only afford to buy leased hold property then also no thanks. It's possible to be content in both countries. You can be happy in both SG or Malaysia. I think it would be interesting to interview upper middle class Malaysians and ask them... We need more local innovative startups that does tech development in house in Malaysia and not the usual hiring external company to do the high value job for us. Singapore is doing extremely well however we should not be taking cookie cutter approach since our country is more dispersed.
If we can stop talking about race and racism, and focus on progress then boleh lah kalau tak sampai bila2 tak berubah banyak benda tak boleh buat. One thing we can do is open the border between Singapore and Malaysia.
What for open the border between MY-SG? Do you know that it usually takes me less than a minute to clear the immigration at Woodlands checkpoint? Even easier and shorter to enter Singapore than any private condominium or gated community in Malaysia where you have to register your vehicle, IC, license, visitor’s pass, call owner and etc.
I am a Singaporean and here is some ways to fix and catch up to Singaporean . 1. Build a damm god train . Across the border. No need to KL . Make it affordable ( just do it . Even if you are losing money .) Yes Malaysia talents will run to SG but sg will go to your country and shop . SG will also think ABT investing there before for once they did not complain ABT the Malaysia ICA incompetence. 2. Further the distance of Malaysia and Islam . Yes Islamic practices can still be done but make Malaysia not a Muslim country . Make it atheist . ( This will reduce race and idk what problems between ppl.) 3. Equal education for all ( so no rare quota for university. If you can get in . U can get in . ) 4. Relocate . Lack of man power at jb ? Bring ppl form ulu places to jb to work . 5. Harsh laws on drugs , corruptions and thinks that disrupt the reputation of Malaysia like vandalism or anything. ( U don't need alot of arrest . Harsh punishment will let those cops think twice before taking a bribe . 6. increase mim wage as much as there is money left . For gov job like check point officers , police . Pay them higher than private . (So your cop pay should be more than a security job . ) 7. Remove unnecessary things ( basically things that won't help the economy ) ban or charge a very high price for smoking , drinking and vaping . Rehabs , education and medical treatment is expensive for a country and it looks better . Change the impression of Malaysia to not a lazy , crazy and care free Malaysia to a hardworking, lively Malaysia . 8. Decrease corporate tax to half . Increase taxes on the rich . Put taxes for buying your second house or buying your second car . 9. Build public transit and make it frequent . 1 am hour is still frequent kinda . Just make sure the citizens can plan and co-ordinate. The only way to escape poverty is though public transport. Ppl can have more jobs opportunities. Ppl can reach social and business like malls or gyms . It is very expensive for health care . 10 . Control your currency . Keep it at 2.5 so that SG will continue to come . Make is slowly stronger . Don't suddenly make it too strong . 11. Have rent control . Don't let your citizens go from paying 1k to 1. 5k . 50 percent jump . But let the landlord have the power to increase rent . Maybe kept it at 40 percent or less . 12.bring back national service. Don't just do army , police and scdf. Include national service like community service .( Basically they are increase for cleaning beaches . Cleaning the streets . Make it look presentable for tourist . BC right now got a lot of shit . Vandalism . Poor buildings and what not . 13. Put restrictions on building . Make it so that the buildings owner will have to maintain the buildings or else ppl will just get turned off by the poor building management . And re claim land that have not been in used for a long time . 14 . For major talents ..try to Ur very best to keep it in your country. Famous actors, musician, lawyers , doctors and engineers . 15. In sch make it so that sci and math is thought in english .

Here’s the thing, let’s be honest, Malaysia’s fixated on Singapore for obvious reasons. Let’s put it in another way, can Malaysia catch Hong Kong, Taiwan? To get to Singapore, you need to get past HK first. And if recent reports are accurate, Vietnam and Indonesia are already overtaking Malaysia. Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand adalah jiran terdekat Malaysia. Dan termasuk dalam negara-negara anggota ASEAN yang sama-sama berganding bahu. Setiap negara ada kekuatan dan kelemahan, oleh itu kita saling lengkap melengkapi dengan harmoni terutama dalam isu antarabangsa. As a Malaysian i can say that we need each other. You will feel the amazing vibes when you visit Malaysia. Ok, love from Malaysia ❤😽 Jemput datang ke Malaysia and feel the beauty of Asia.
Don't worry about Singapore it's too far to catch-up , next ASEAN countries to overtake or has already exceeded Malaysia are Thailand , Indonesia , Vietnam , Philippines .
100% NO. We will NEVER catch up to Singapore. And frankly we don't need to catch up Singapore and we should stop comparing ourselves with it. Malaysia is special in many own way. BUT, first and foremost, we need to heal Malaysia. We will NEVER progress or move fwd if race, religion, identity and skin color are the main issues daily. We will NEVER move fwd is we have a low class parliment filled with low class racist leaders. Always remember, there was a time when all races got along. The 60s,70s,80s and some of the 90s were amazing years. We all got along. Yes there was corruption back then too but at least we got along. Fast fwd to today and we are trying to fix so many bleeding issues at the same time + rasicm at the same time. Its very sad.
90s is the best years of Malaysia. 10% GDP growth every single year within 11 years. That's impressive. Even Vietnam nowadays cant even reach that growth level

As long as corruption is normalized, we the rakyat will be used and the fund to build Malaysia will only go to these immoral politicians .. from top to bottom, masuk penjara keluar still trying to screw the country. It'll be a long way to go, if ever
Because we Singaporeans couldn't care less. It's fine for msia not to progress and compete. Win win for both. We can fly to msia and enjoy cheap stuff whilst the lucky Malaysians who can work in sg can earn way more after they go back msia. Win win for both! This is the reality no matter whether u want to sugar coat or hide it. I love that it's 3.4 exchange rate. Please go higher to 4. :)
What works for Singapore will not work for Malaysia, the 2Rs are and have been a defining part of Malaysia's policy since her inception and persists till today. Doing what Singapore is doing will cost political capital that no PM or political party can afford. Any policy change to become more progressive or be more meritocracy driven will not be easy and Anwar is walking a tight rope to nudge Malaysia in that direction with the faction he is in now. Malaysia is on a distinct path from Singapore that was set in stone since 1965, changing that path now is impossible. I can only hope the best for them.
The injustice throughout the system causes a fail of retention in talents, and consequently causes an under development in all sectors which lead to a weak economical power
Short answer.. Malaysia cannot catch up to Singapore because most developed countries in the world are progressing upwards.. Singapore will never stay still to be caught up by Malaysia. In my opinion if Malaysia wants to make leaps and bounds in the economic race, let the Chinese run your government and economy and remove affirmative actions for bumi. If people compete to become better then the malaysian economy will definitely grow
wouldn't copying SGD monetary policy cause the MYR to increase against the USD causing all our exports to increase in price relative to the other competition ie vietnam, thailand, indonesia. making it cheaper for other countries to just buy non-msian made products?
Imagine Malaysia currency to be the same as SGD, noone gonna buy from us anymore, and remaining MNC factories migrate to neighbour countries. Instantly middle class country>Low Class

@user-ff2hy3oz9h I agree, that's the more reason I prefer my day to day investment decisions being guided by an inv-coach, seeing that their entire skillset is built around short & long term holdings for profit realisation, coupled with the exclusive analysis they possess, it's near impossible to not out-perform. I've been investing with a coach literally for 4years, and have accrued approx. $1.4m in net-profits thus far.

Education is really the only reason. If most of the population speaks English and is well educated and most go to university, you will have more local talent that will attract companies to setup shop in MY. That's high value job creation that can only come about with being well educated. With that, you naturally get higher salaries because the work done is more productive. Higher salaries in general raises standards of living and also creates a much larger tax base for the govt to tap into for further developing the nation. This is a virtuous cycle that uplifts the nation. It really starts with education. Obviously second is having a competent govt and unfortunately MY simply lacks that. You need to just look at the quality of the leadership and the politicking. You need to also ask the question - with such a large population, why does MY need a lot of foreign labour?
Only certain segment of Malaysian idolize Singapore as a perfect country. Singapore model is good for city state like Singapore while Malaysia should carve its own niche and identity. Yes corruption must be kept in check but so is miserable kiasu life. As a half Malaysian and Singaporean who lived abroad for 20 years including in Singapore. The over idolizing of Singapore and the pursuit of becoming like Singapore may cause Malaysia to lose what is good about Malaysia.
Indeed, they expect every square inch of Malaysia to be like Singapore. To have HDB flats, SMRT & SBST connectivity, concrete jungles with some greeneries. Just take look at Perak, it has all the nice sceneries and natural virgin forest that’s untouched. It’s large enough to be a country on its own. Apart from Ipoh & Taiping, the rest of the state is very green from Hulu to Hilir Perak.
I like the people in Teluk Intan & Bagan Datoh. They are one of the friendliest and most helpful people in the state of Perak based on my personal experience.
It depends on what field, if we are talking about football, then we are slightly better, if we go for corruption, may be we somewhere on par with another African country.
maybe let's not talk about money, let's talk about education and healthcare. Singapore is lightyears ahead in terms of education standard and quality of healthcare (although Malaysian govt hospitals are almost free).
Can Malaysia REALLY Catch Up With Singapore? you can, and you can do much better than us too. ur only problem, is the people....meaning the politicians. poorly educated individuals, not the best minds... policies are flippy floppy. not planning into the future. 50-60 years into the future planning. 1st place u start, education. invest heavily into it. make it compulsory to master english. impose fines for those not gng to schools. provide solid educational infrastructure and quality teachers. 2nd infrastructure, provide solid infrastructure for investors and industries. 3rd simplify the redtape. 4th provide incentives to investors 5th safety. tighten criminal laws and enforcement. this are recipe for laying foundation for future growth. i have high hopes and believe in Malaysia, I'm a singaporean. i love going there and would readily live there

If you want to compare a US top city vs Singapore, shouldn't you compare New York/San Fran vs SG instead of US vs Singapore. It's basic common sense.

In order for Malaysia to reach the stage like Singapore, here are those Malaysia has to do (which I may have mentioned earlier on):
1. Raising minimum salary for all Malaysians (to retain talent within the country)
No need to write so much. Just 2 words.
Ketuanan Melayu

Impossible, because of the fragile ego of certain kind of people, who thought they are the center of the earth
The Malaysian government has learned none of it.
There is one thing people forget about when talking about economics, is policy stability. A simple example, RTS with SG. If policy keep changing, no company will want long term investment in Malaysia.

Meritocracy with corruption like dap did
As a Malaysian working in SG, I always feel that SG is literally what Malaysia could have become..

Both countries have different ideologies leading to a different outcome, Singapore focusing on meritocracy, while Malaysia emphasizing on the bumiputra scheme. The politics in the different countries result in various good and bad outcomes.

While another one only focus on the only less moving leg, kept injecting steroids to make it "grow" it becoz it claims itself as the "biggest" part of the body, while other legs not receiving enough nutrients.
Now after 50 years, we still asking which horse runs faster ar....?

When they say Malaysia, are they referring to only KL? 😅Cos that's what people do, even Malaysians in general.

I think, Malaysia doesn't need to catch up with Singapore, because these 2 countries is different in term of size and geographical. In term of economy, Singapore is already established. But Malaysia is bigger in geographic. There is many more potential that a country like Malaysia can offer that Singapore can't.
The demographics are also very different. More diverse and geographically scattered

Why Singapore? Look at UAE, Dubai, SA la... come onnnnnnn work life balance
Even South Korea Taiwan Japan can't keep up with Singapore with that very tiny country. Malaysia should compare with Taiwan which is nearly the same population as Malaysia
But the demographics have lower IQ compared to Taiwan
In 1965, PAP Malaysia was deregistered and it's members founded DAP.
Singapore is what Malaysia could have been if DAP was in power for 6 decades.
Impossible to have DAP to be in power for 6 decades as the demographics will not allow it to happen
In short the incentive factor is just not there
Politic, corruption, racisim, and quality of ministers and civil servants. These are what dragging Malaysia's progress.
One also wonders why Kranji-Woodlands-Yishun-Sembawang cannot catch up with Holland Village-Bukit Timah in terms of property value. How come most people in Yishun-Sembawang are average to poor just like those who live in Hougang-Sengkang-Punggol.
Why compare? It's not apple to apple comparison to start with. Strange!

Yup, let’s start with the Malays and their leaders
( This will reduce race and idk what problems between ppl.)
3. Equal education for all ( so no rare quota for university. If you can get in . U can get in . )
(So your cop pay should be more than a security job . )
Malaysia is an islamic country though, but not so "islamic" in a sense that they still collect taxes. One good example of an islamic country is Brunei, miles more developed too lah.
There is no need for Malaysia to catch up. Enjoy what you have!
That's more like it👏👏👍👌

Why need to compete with Singapore in the first place when both countries have very different demographics?
Here’s the thing, let’s be honest, Malaysia’s fixated on Singapore for obvious reasons. Let’s put it in another way, can Malaysia catch Hong Kong, Taiwan? To get to Singapore, you need to get past HK first. And if recent reports are accurate, Vietnam and Indonesia are already overtaking Malaysia. If you can’t get past those 2, then maybe a wake-up call is in order.

@@leealex24 there are varied estimates of Singapores per capita GDP, HK and Taiwan recognises it to be between 70-90k. A Taiwanese did a calculation, he concluded Taiwan needs to have 7.6-7.8% growth for 20 years to catch up to Singapore, assuming Singapore maintains 3% growth.
@@ryanseet8314 For Klang Valley, it's unlikely GDP per capita will match SG next 10 years but, the gap would significantly narrow maybe 60% of SG by 2033, but, Malaysia GDP as a whole could be significantly larger. If Malaysia GDP doubles in the next 10 years, that's almost US$1tn, SG assume moderate growth would be US$700bn - US$750bn.
@@leealex24 it’s currently about a third there abouts of Singapore’s. 10 years is very ambitious, Singapore is not standing still. HKs gdp is roughly half of Singapores, so for Klang to be 60% than would require you to overtake HK. That’s why I think set realistic targets, Vietnam and Indonesia have already overtaking Malaysia on several metrics. The danger of fixating on Singapore is that others are catching up fast, if not surpassing Malaysia. As I said catch up to HK first before talking about Singapore.
@@ryanseet8314 Yeah, 1/3 is about right on nominal basis. It's fine. After 10 years, 1/3 becomes 1/2 or best 60% for Klang Valley. But, entire Malaysia also grow man. No, don't compare with HK.

Frankly, we screw up transforming to Ringgit Malaysia enabling Brunei and Singapore Dollar to spearhead in value for money.
