Finally someone spoke on behalf of dentist POV. Public generally dont know the hidden cost of each and everything in the clinic. Like Dr Sonia mentioned, the cost for dental chair itself can cash out a car. Cheaper brands maybe cash out an Axia, some higher spec chair can even cash out a full spec Honda City or even Civic. Another example will be the blue light that your dentist shines at your teeth when you're doing a filling. That thing only shines for 5-10 seconds or so but to buy that thing can cost a few thousands to about 10k! And with all the things above, some patients complains Dentist for charging RM30 consultation fee🤦🏼♂
Thank you, Dr Sonia for voicing out our views as dentists, while interjecting much needed dental public health information about illegal dentistry. Much respect.
Hi Sonia! True. Even plumber charge consultation fee. And some even more expensive than us. And some patients still asking for free dental consultation 🥲
im touched by all things she revealed in this cideo ...real real words n.passions from her heart ..real touching when she said shes giving back to the community!!!
My hats off for those dentists who chose to return to Malaysia to work. They are definitely serving their people and doing a huge service to the community. I think Malaysian patients are really blessed to enjoy dentistry at such a low cost.
i am doing IT infrastructure support in Singapore. i am getting around 20k ringgit after conversion per month. Its a work from home role and i am Singaporean. I dont have a degree. Just a diploma.
The “brain drain” or “talent exodus” is a very real thing. Hearing the monthly income for roles in Malaysia vs UK (where I am from) is very different! Even after all the heavy National Insurance and Income taxes we have here the remaining amount for professionals is significantly higher than same equivalent before tax. However the cost of living is of course higher if you’re smart with money over here across the years it would accumulate into something very useable for possible later (early) retirement back in Malaysia, whilst also having worked for so long abroad to get the right to receive government pension makes it even more attractive to go abroad.
I would suggest an interview with a Malaysia doctor (medical officer) in government/ had work in government. Then you would know exactly what doctors earn
- Dr in GP charge RM10-RM30 for consultation fee. Which is so called expertise charge - Likewise, when I send car for maintenance, or calling plumbers/electrician to fix broken things at home. They charge ~RM50 for labour fee. - Yet some patients still asking for discount. I mean everyone is making money to live. Just don`t berkira lah. Only then economy will grows.
true. when it comes to us dentists its always discounts, free etc. just filter the patients that value your expertise. if they want consultation free, please feel free to find a clinic that accepts free consultation. saves your time and good for mental health.
only when u stop berkira with us in other industry as well. I've had this doctor questioning why our rice with whole chicken leg meal is RM14. wtf. it's a full service restaurant.
Although this does not apply locally, my cousin had to dish out roughly 1 mil AUD to acquire a defunct dental clinic in Perth. The cost is very high but so is the potential revenue.
Prosthodontists actually do not earn as much as orthodontists, endodontists or oral surgeons. Or the dentists who do a lot of implant surgeries and/or orthodontics. But at the end of the day, it is how business minded the dentist or specialist is. Dr Sonia is probably more passionate about teachings, so that’s why she seemed contented
Living in the US right now as an electrical engineer, making around 9k a month, which is decent in USD, but an enormous amount in MYR. Debating whether to move back to Malaysia after my retirement to enjoy the fruits of my labour or to continue living in the US.
Strong pull factor to retire in Malaysia started after Covid. Sudden rise of inflation throughout the world. Expats who stay in Malaysia work online, earn in USD, SGD, Yen, Won but spent in RM. Majority of expats are from the east e.g. China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore.
Its better to retire in msia due to lower cost of living & 1st class medical… u can search u tube for the past few months where many foreigner (from west, china, hong kong, Australia etc..)move to msia to retire or apply mm2h
@@JessieWong-u9p haha i know, i grew up in malaysia, but honestly I'm really enjoying life in the US right now, honestly the infastructure is much nicer than that of Malaysia's.
For the government part it's really true. More people need to know that we are being under paid. And the ridiculous system are making us unable to feed ourselves not to said to serve back the county. The working experience is not equal with the right paid due to policies changes every time and not transparent. Government need to change the policies so that more talent will be maintained.
Just make the jump to Australia , and you can easily make AUD200k a year. If willing to OT, 300k also possible. While taxes is 45% but you still make loads more than in Malaysia.
Can’t be any more wrong. 45% is already the cap. Australia is not as expensive as you think. And it’s a no brainer. $10k rm per month living in Malaysia vs $10k AUD per month after taxes. You will definitely earn more and save more in Australia.
I can tell you affirmatively how much a dentist earns in Australia because I reside in Australia and my wife is a dentist. $300k per annum salary, deducting 45% tax (which is already the cap) leaves $165k of disposable income. Way more comfortable than an average dentist earning rm10k in Malaysia. You are right, the dentist degree cost $500k in Australia. But let’s compare apples to apples. The dentist in the video studied in Singapore. My comment was for her to make the jump to Australia and she can x5 her income. I get the whole patriotism, but look at it objectively. Malaysia pay is terribly low for professionals. The only reason why so many professionals are still working on Malaysia because it is still home.
I think you are clearly missing the point. My original comment was directed at the dentist in the video to work in Australia and x5 her income. The cost of her education is already a sunk cost. My advice is based off her current situation where she already has a degree and is working. If she wants more money, go to Australia and the money will roll in way faster than she is in Malaysia. And I remain firm on my point that earning $165k AUD after taxes is more comfortable than $10k rm in Malaysia. If you cannot agree on this, then there’s no point commenting further.
that's why more doctor from govt join/open their own clinics once their bond expired with govt easy to say dentist is structural engineer in mechanical/ civil engineering niche
