I think you may have missed a crucial detail in using the stove top method the 8-bit guy uses, he kept the water at a fairly consistent temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit (not celsius). In the US we still use the old Imperial measurements, not metric. 100 F is just above body temperature which helps the hydrogen peroxide react with the plastic. 100 degrees is about about 37 degrees Celsius.
peroxide (at least on hair) works best in temps between 37°c and 45°c, any lower takes a while to process and higher gives patchy results or uncontrolled.
@@Kubulek17 Do you put the cream on the console and then pour 37-45c water on it? and for how long?

Retrobright is very interesting and I always enjoy a good retrobright video. Brilliant video Elliot. Keep it up
Thanks Joe!
That dog stole a the video
Shes pretty cool!
The toy Thief can you use English
The toy Thief I was only loonking at that dog😂
For the hot water method, have you tried putting the parts in sealed plastic (sandwich) bags first? Adding the hot water directly onto the parts and salon cream is only going to dilute the peroxide.
David made a lot of video on retrobright, he clearly said the temperature is crucial. I also tried the cream version but I had trouble with the sun so my Amiga500 ended up marble... Get a brush to smear the cream!
what happened to your arm? That looks rough!
Thats what I wanna know.
Aww your new dog is so adorable
Hi Elliott, did you find that the "retro brighting" process effected the A/B, start/select lettering? I tried something similar on my NES and it completely dissolved the lettering on the front flap to the point where I needed to order a new one.
The video I have been waiting for 😊 I am so sorry for the original shell😢 I got distracted by your dog while watching. She is super cuuuteee!!
Good video 5 years on.
No issue with the serial number or the blue writing on the shell?
Impressive work dude nice job
How many minutes was the shell under the UV light?
Roughly how long do you leave the case under the UV light?
What kind of nail box you use
0:18 - 1:16 the only thing I paid attention to during that timeframe was your dog XD
just discovered your channel bro. And i love the content. I love refurbing things too. Good stuff :D
Thank you!
Hey man, I tried using the 40% salon crème on my Macintosh case pieces in the sun, and I end up getting a lot of splotches and it doesn’t work very well. Any tips?
A great result that mate. Now all I need is one of those nail hardening machines big enough to fit a snes shell ;-)
I had to watch this twice because I was distracted by the cute pupper.
how do you make retro bright? i want to retro bright my old legos
I use one of those nail hardeners. I actually got it with a stamp making kit at the thrift store. What I get the best results from is using liquid hydrogen peroxide in a sealed container with a little oxy booster. Just a clear Tupperware container. You want it submerged.
can you also do this to coloured shells? i have a blue GBC that has turned green.
Have you ever tried using oxy laundry booster (napisan) or something like that. It worked well for me on one of my dmg shells
i wouldnt use hot water on gameboy shells or plastic in general. i saw how this affects the plastic with my GBC cases that got only partially covered in the water.
i dont know how long you tried the UV lamp method but i used a UV flashlight put it through a cardboardbox with aluminum foil covered insides and put that over the gameboy which is covered thick in hair bleach, 13% i think. then i leave that for up to a week and i get a perfect GB case.
I think you just need to prop up the case inside the nail hardener thing to get the sides/top/bottom more exposed to the UV light. Or maybe try it so the shell is upside down so the yellow side bits are closer to the UV light. Great video though...
Do you sell any of your gameboy light consoles?
After bleaching, I got a few stains left on my DMG shell. Is it possible to get rid of those in second bleaching which I would apply hydrogen only on those stains? Thank you. Thanks for all the cool videos. :)
How many Game boy pocket do you have?
Great Job!!! The GB locks new and clean
Hugs back
So I saw that you got your Gameboy Pocket from Japan4U and I was wondering (I'm very new to gameboys and such) if the motherboard of the Japan version of an NDS was the same as uk or us
beautiful work m8
Whould this process damage decals? I managed to get the Limited Gameboy Color Card Captor Sakura Edition which has a picture of the character on the front, and I'd be worried about this potentially removing that.
would it work to use that blonde-stuff and put it under sunlight instead of that nail lamp? cuz i could get that blonde thingy cream, but i cant get my nes top part under a nail lamp LUL
Was waiting for this video to come out after seeing pics of the meltboy Elliot posted over on fb.
Haha thanks Shawn!
is this permanent solution because everytime i clean my gameboy after 3 months it turns to yellow again
Hey Elliot, I'm looking just for the DMG purple colored GBP buttons, would you happen to have a spare you could part with, or do you know a source for these specific ones? The ones on ebay are too pink for my tastes. Great content, keep on going!
Maybe I'm too late, but gotta say, works the same way as whitening Jordan 11's soles (or any translucent/white sole that is yellow). Salon care 40 over it, then the plastic wrap around it and finally put it under the sun for some hours, doing it 3-8 times (depending of how is the yellowing). That sould be okay
i know you're not using it on hair ofc, but as someone who does uses that very same creme peroxide for its intended purpose, i feel it might've worked a bit better if you'd mixed it with a packet of the powder bleach
where can i get one of those little uv boxes? what is that? for fingernails?
Yeah it ia for fingernails!
Another awesome refurbish
Thanks!
Elliot, did you tried rotating the gameboy 90 degree each time you applied more cream and lifting it up with something so the UV light could reach it better from the sites?
Also probably the lamp you failed at was a chinese scam :l the other day i bought a small lamp than measures the UV than have helped me out and those nails dryers are stronger at UV than the sun (at least where i am)
Miley will be the NEW retro future
Has it Re-Yellowed since then?
yay been looking forward to this :D
Glad you like it!
This plastic will be prone to bending at around 75-80 celsius. 8bit guy used a sous vide, which can be quite an expensive method. I have used an old chocolate melter to retrobright key caps. Keeps the water at around 50 celcius and I submerged the keys in a plastic bag filled with peroxide. Left it around 24 hours before I was happy with the color.
Ah thats a good idea dude, thanks.
UV lamps do not work very well with retrobriting, you should just set it out in the sun. That works a lot better and you can get it done in about a few hours
Sucks about the original shell man, loving the videos and music!
Yeah man gutted, thank you!
The Retro Future Dude I cannot for the life of me find the song you used at 1:20. I searched his whole soundcloud page and it just isnt there.
•o• SHMOLL PUPPER! That's a cute 🐕
Awesome Video
whoa, what the hell happened to your wrist/ back of the right hand?
What happen to your hand?
It's called a UV heat lamp :)
Well, you can't win them all, as it is said.
Still, well done, lessons learned, and happy gaming!
Awwwwwww hi Miley!
Keep this dude as far away as possible from any Gameboys.
4:02 what hapend to your hand?!
Does soaking in Hydrogen Peroxide (HO) in sunlight work as well as Retrobright?
Yeah
Retrobright is a process, it was a product but they stopped making it. All im using is a hair cream.
next video better be about your cute dog or else i am unsubbing
How are we supposed to concentrate on the video when you have you little pupper in the background
The problem with your UV light is that the tube is only Black Light Blue tube as is used in Fly Killer's to attract flies. These do not give out enough UV light.
Ah damn... should have done my homework!
No... As the right ones are VERY Dangerous and should only be used for what they are designed for ie : Killing Bug's during Water Purification.
Hydrogen peroxide 12% and Youngnuo lights work as a charm! :)
Dude what happened to your hand?
I fell over!
On to a pile of broken glass?
Finalllly
Can you retrobrite rubber?
I think so!
I tried looking it up and aparently it's either oxyization or exposure to the skin's natural oils rather than light degredation and the only solutions are bleach or possibly strong toothpaste.
Hi milie! (I hope I spelled it right...)
Miley is wonderful!!!
Last I checked, you're not supposed to put it in water. Just cover it with the hair cream and sit it in the sun.
you should watch more 8-Bit guy
I watch him all the time!
The Retro Future what about his other channel, 8-bit keys?
Flutterdrive I recommend Cranial Pasta. Though I wish the 8 bit guy would make more Cranial Pasta vids.
Idk why you didn’t first try leaving it out in the sun, the most common method 😂😂😂😂
Hey Elliot. Japan 4 u has some good deals on dmg style gameboys. From £24. U should check it out.
I imagine a Sous Vide Cooker would work nicely with a hydrogen peroxide solution. It holds the temperature at 60°C and also stirs the liquid.
Ah nice man, will check it out! Thank you!
The best way I do it is use hydrogen peroxide in a plastic container under High pressure sodium light at 600watt and it makes the plastic look like new again
Please send me one of these DMG Gameboy Pockets
I was mostly focused on the dog tbh
I still can't believe you drink Budweiser
Doesn’t the sun put out a lot of UV radiation?
I like your dog.
Thanks man!
Awsomeee
Cheers dude!
Dude can you do a collection video?
Hi, Elliot
Hi!
Bro just leve it outside in the bright sun
Stop playing with my emotions!
Aww cute puppy.
Ahh nice the colours getting there I could use this method.
Oh my god, hahaha
Then genuinely wow.
The other half is getting a UV nail hardener for her birthday lol
Looks amazing, job well done to be honest
I would like to see Miley grown up!
what happened to ur hands?!
Fell over!

DOGGY
Why not just buy some new housing for $5?
do they have one in classic dmg color?
Yes
NetNerdy obviously!
Tech James will most likely not be a nintendo product.
Original is better.
1st!!!!
Congrats!
