Matt, I’m with you 100%. It’s commendable that this guy had a vision and saw it through. I’m a guy who doesn’t own any razor more expensive than $50 USD. But I’m not a mega wealthy guy who can afford the “top of the line” things. My little Gillette Silver Tip is my go to, and I have seen some of these collector who spend $10,000 on shaving supplies in a year or two. So for those collectors that have that sort of disposable income, this will be a great piece for them. It’s silly to hate something just because you can’t afford it. 🤣

  • @brianh2287
    @brianh2287 7 месяцев назад +27

How can you hate on the guy for creating a piece of art? That's what this is, it is art that is functional and shaves. Even though I'm not buying it, I can definitely appreciate it. I think my Konsul and Ambassador razors are also a work of art.
I personally want to see more companies like RazoRock that offer high quality precision razors in premium materials at a price for everyone. However, RazoRock might be unique and have that market already.

Not so crazy if you're a traditional wet shaver.
It's crazy that I have three segmented cases of modern razors, several hundred blades and 30 to 50 soaps too.
I get it and that's a sweet razor!
I'm glad you were able to get one and show it to us Matt, really very cool. Thank You!

Manuel did an incredible job with the Tedalus razor. Hands down, the absolute best looking razor I’ve ever seen.
Hats off to Matt for the review🙏🏼 Manuel should be proud of his achievement💪🏼.
I understand all of the different view points.. but I would prefer to appreciate the vision, the leap of faith and production effort that was put into this work. This wasn’t achieved without a lot of R&D. Incredible job Manuel💪🏼
    Happy New Year to all🙏🏼

I am using my Raw RS-18 this week and the packaging is second to none for any razor ever made. Don’t forget Carbon and their Damascus razors. They go for over $1k. I do not know what an engraved Shield razor goes for, but I am sure it isn’t cheap. I’m with you in that it is nice to see high quality products and it is up to the individual to decide whether they are willing to pay for it. No hate, just respect. Happy New Year.

I have a background in Marketing and you are bang on. While I would never spend that much on a razor, I can see why people would want to be in that exclusive club. I bet that razor doubles in value in less than 10 years, provided the creator keeps his promise and limits production to 100 units. Display it with pride; look at it every day and smile. You're a lucky man to be able to afford such a gorgeous work of art.

Sometimes people want to have something beautiful even for the ordinary day things. I buy an insanely expensive toothpaste of wich I didn’t even liked the taste first just because the tube looks beautiful. I thought I’ll just reuse the tube and fill it up with a normal toothpaste. Well after using one tube I love the taste now but hate the taste of normal ones XD as the bathroom is maybe the first place one uses in the morning why not let it look nice with beautiful tools :) I finally found a toothbrush what looks kinda nice. Not perfect. But still better than the other plastic things. Now I only need to hide my mouth wash. XD

I've been waiting to see a review of this razor since it was released. Whatever this razor is worth the money or not, it's up to the individual to decide. For some people it's all about saving money and getting the best shave possible on a budget, while others don't care about the money and want the best of the best. Everyone is right for himself and there're no wrong answers here. It's just said that people get into either the very inexpensive camp and call those who are willing to spend more than $100 on a razor crazy and then there are those who do the opposite and make fun of those who buy inexpensive razors.

I think your commentary is spot on. My manufacturing experience tells me how much something of this quality costs to produce. I also appreciate your analogy of vintage cars. In reality, wet shaving is a much more affordable hobby in the grand scheme of things. While I have no plans to purchase the razor, I do appreciate those who would and don't think of it as excessive for $1K. One last comparison. How many watches (and expensive ones) can you collect? They all tell time.

Matt, RESPECT, for making this video. I have a variety of razors in my collection, costs ranging from less than $100 to more than $400. Do I need a $400 razor to get a great shave? No more than I need a luxury watch to tell the time (but I wear one)! We all have a different price point we won’t go above and should respect each others perspectives. It’s an absolutely gorgeous razor! I’m not itching to buy one, but congratulations anyone who does on their purchase. Enjoy!

Great review, Matt! Thanks for investing in it and sharing with us. Price is all about the value that something brings to someone - as I say whenever someone criticises the Ambassador’s price; people will pay $1,000 for an iPhone and it’ll be redundant in a few years…these razors are beautifully crafted to last many, many lifetimes.

@@Argy_V so you wouldn’t leave your house to your kids then? Your car will still be in the same condition in 50 years? $1,000 on one man’s daily shaver over his lifetime plus that again of his son’s/nephews lifetime and their son’s lifetime etc is nothing.

I honestly think it’s a great deal of money but true craftsmanship comes with a craftsmanship price. This the reason that Rex razors are worth the money they are functional works of art that will last for generations. I know people who are commenting on the Tedalus saying it’s to expensive but have bought Wolfman razor for almost the same price. No one is being forced to purchase one. All the power to someone with the vision to create such an incredibly beautiful piece of functional art.

Haters always hate. They hate Apple and they hate Ryobi...we need to always remember what Elon Musk stated in his interview a month or so back. You did a fantastic job of your presentation in the video. I do hope you keep it for your collection. My wife and I have a 1965 Mustang (air condition, disc front breaks, and a push button AM radio, 289 in Poppy Red) which we bought new which only has 80,000 miles. It is our Tedious razor. It is only little people that cannot understand that concept. They see a big house on a hill and demand it be torn down out of jealously. But there are the few that see the big house on the hill and believe they can also achieve such. Again, great presentation

I have a Tedalus Essence and it’s easily the best shavette today. If Manuel makes a product you can bet it’s going to be first class personified.
If I wasn’t into my straight razors and honing more so a part of me would love to add this beautifully crafted piece of art but the price point is what hold many back.
We should appreciate the work behind this razor and Manuel making a phenomenal product!

Just had a look on the essence. looks really nice. I am not sure how solid the blade mechanism is though. I started to use a shavette for my first stroke when I haven’t shaved for longer. Just wanted to try and bought one for 4 euros. Meanwhile I use it regularly. Especially when flying with cabin luggage only. I actually see the wear and tear on its wooden handle XD. For being at home I actually bought a knife. Well, I could step up the tool with the Essence if it wasn’t sold out. I mean especially when I have the luck of having a nice bathroom I also want to enjoy my shave in a special way. ;)

Your review of this awesome razor confirms my gut feeling towards this razor. As a piece of Art, it's worth its price tag; and with the added excellence in function as a shaving tool, it's a fulfilling investment for those who know, appreciate and enjoy the fulfillment that comes from using quality. I love it, and shall add it to my collection alongside the very solid razors I now enjoy so much (Rockwell, Envoy, Edwin Jagger 316). Matt, this was a very fair and informative review. The razor is beautiful and yes, expensive. But price is very subjective. I started with purchasing a $50.00 razor and thought that was the end of it. Now, I am purchasing a $400.00 razor and not thinking twice about the investment. I am sure he will sell these out and once they are gone and the prices on all the other razors on the market, for this quality, are even more expensive, we will all say "we should have bought it back when it was cheap".
    Happy New Year all.

Great review, great talk. I bought an Essence by Tedalus exactly 6 minutes after they were on the market. It is the world’s most elite and unique replaceable blade straight. Manuel is meticulous in his design and presentation. I would encourage anyone who is able to buy and wants a unique and luxurious shave piece to just pay the price. When I was in the horse world, good clean fresh hay was $4 per bale…ENORMOUS discounts and bargains were available to those who WANTED the stuff that had already been through the horse. I’m not buying one, but I could.

Great unbiased review Matt! I’ve long been a fan of Tedalus, I have the essence and absolutely love it. The velocity one is way outside my price range, and it likely doesn’t shave any better than my other high end razors, but I’ll be darned if I don’t want one lol, it would look killer sitting beside the Essence in my den. Have a great weekend bud!

I bought almost all the high end razors in the world and after all the smoke clears I would say my cheap under 50 dollar razors are just as smooth and comfortable. For me the Merkur 37c and the Razorock Sloc are very good shavers.

If you can afford it good on you, if not it gives you something to strive for. Be happy for others instead of being jealous or resentful. Well thats my $0.02. Have a great new year take care, Peace.

I agree what you mentioned about his right to sell this beautiful razor for the amount he wants to or perhaps has to. I could buy one at this point in my life but being 74 years old it would not make much sense unless I had someone to leave it to when I'm gone. Unfortunately I don't, however if you want a life time razor and have years to go then I think it would make sense to buy a life time razor. I wish they had your ambasador razor or this one when I was young, saving up for it would have been worth it. Thanks for educational video's and your great products. Andy

110%, this is not just a razor, it is art and he can charge whatever he wants. The market will decide the value, and seems to have said it is worth the asking price. Just look at the cost of watches or other luxury goods. This is a luxury item from a designer who wanted his idea made into reality.

  • @johnmeyer1557
    @johnmeyer1557 7 месяцев назад +2

Great review of this razor. As you I can see that the packaging is first line quality. I know that the packaging doesn't perform the shave but for the amount of money being charged you should expect quality packaging. You, being involve with the manufacturing aspect of your razors know and see the detail put into the finish of the razor. Detailing the finish such as knowing that certain parts must be masked off while polishing and different amounts of sand blasting were performed or just tumbling to get the texture desired. This is just so that the razor looks superb. I see that not only does the razor look great it gives a fantastic shave. The .89 blade gap IMO is the perfect choice, not to mild or aggressive. Even though I cannot afford this razor I do see the 100 razors being sold. As you stated many will not be used but just stored away as a great art work is stored in appreciation of the artist.

Excellent points you've raised in this video!
Would I buy it myself? Most likely not.
But this video reminds me of the Limited Edition Leaf Elite SS series.
When it came out for pre-order, the reaction was very similar.
If I recall correctly the complete set was around 500$
    Yes, that's an expensive investment.
But I'm almost positive that only 25 sets were produced. Due primarily to the initial lack of interest and the extreme complexity of the parts being machined. There were issues that did arise during the manufacturing process because of the detailed intricacies of some parts. To the best of my understanding, it doesn't sound like there will be any more made.
Some folks are regretting their decision to pass now. And I've only seen one complete set listed for resale since at 600$ + S/H.
Of those 25, some aren't even the complete sets as some folks only ordered one or the other of the razors.
So these complete sets are about as rare as hen's teeth. Lol!
I am very thankful I ordered soon enough to get in at #18. And I own the complete set.
The perspective from which one looks at the price from is what really determines whether it's a valid purchase or skews their reasoning.
Of course, most folks don't have a 1000$ available to spend all at once either. So that's a factor as well.
Enjoy and Congratulations on the purchase of your new Velocity One!
