    I love the way you get into reproducing the vibe of what a gem cutter of the day working conditions were like. Thanks for sharing this fascinating experience.

      Thank you , I totally agree. I love the vintage looks, the way the water glistens inside and also the way the color perfect matches the brass parts of my machine.

    I've got a analog angle finder. No batteries or zero necessary. Also those measurements loupe are essential

    Way back in high school when I took a jewelry class I dreamed of faceting stones. I got a book from the library that showed the machines and I gave that thought up to do to expense of them. But Peter the Gem Shepard steered me to you and I saw your video on the English jambpeg. I was taken with the old school machine and at my age and skill level I could create that easy enough. But boy did I get a surprise when I checked an online metal supplier for 1” thick copper. They wanted a grand for a 12” square! Take care of them copper laps! I’m guessing the original on the English lap was 10” diameter by 1” thick?

      Yes you are correct. 10” diameter at about an inch thick. A big hunk of metal. You can still find an affordable copper. 6” at around 1/2” for about $100 in bangkok or Sri Lanka. I hope your journey towards faceting is progressing and glad you found me via Peter :)

    I just got a regular mast machine. I feel like I would like the jam peg style better. I used to cabbing a lot so I’m used to the stick and angles

    Hello, can you cut an oval stone with a checkered face and upload the video to your channel? Grateful.

    Use Velcro for your apron then you can swap out fabrics as necessary and have spares handy

    Always interesting watching your videos 👍😊
    I'm also using one of those angle finders. ..and that's a must for me, because I'm using one of those cheap Chinese faceting mast/devices with a scale that's incorrect and difficult to read.
    So I zero it out (on the side) at my disc and then I will get a correct angle on the arm 😊

    Justin have you tried completely cutting a stone free hand ? Just with the dop stick in your hands no mechanical. Other than obviously your machine.

      I’ve faceted a stone before with just a stone in hand before I had access to a faceting machine. I did a few flat topped pyramids and a cube but nothing complicated. That would be a good experiment.

    So do you suggest Jampeg is better then the Raytechshaw machine ?

    • @JustinKPrim
      @JustinKPrim  7 месяцев назад +1

      Not at all. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to go down the Jambpeg path unless they feel so called to do it. It’s very hard with almost no reward as far as finished stones go. It’s a fool errand and in this situation I’m happy to play the fool on my journey towards becoming the magus.
