People are spoiled because there are so many much better survival horror games out there. Re2 remake, Dead Space remake just to name a couple. This game will be remembered for great graphics and a satisfying crunchy feeling to hitting enemies. Not much more. It's a good game just nothing more than average.
To glen and his team I played this game for hours on pc and hated the frame rate issues but I could not stop playing it because sound alone was on a new level. I hope there will be a sequel day one purchase again for me.
I finished this game and the dlcs and enjoyed it very much BUT they talk so much about horror aspect while the most scary thing was opening those crates and expecting that jumping thing :D
Glen, throughout all the interviews published by various Game journalist companies, never lied about what the game was going to be like. No scrapped mechanics, no gameplay footage used solely for the marketing. He even was asked about the melee combat 5 months before release, and he described it as it is within the game. It was never oversold by the devs themselves (nor the publishers to my knowledge). Of course, the people overselling it as “dead space 2^2: electric boogaloo” were either game journalist companies or commenters on said videos. Glen was even asked directly, over multiple interviews, how the game was like dead space. Every time he was asked, he stated: “you might come in looking for a dead space experience, but that’s not what we’re going for in Callisto. You’ll see a few similarities, but you’ll come out the other end of a different experience.” So of course, the game is being bashed for not living up to the hype the devs never generated. Sure, there are legitimate criticisms of the game. The botched PC release, the clunky auto save system, the disorienting camera behavior when using the gun-melee combo, the poor jump-scares, and so forth. However, I find that the majority of “criticisms”, ~60-70%, are completely unwarranted. I have my own criticisms, one’s not stated by reviewers, but I did enjoy the game and see it as a passionate misstep into a new world ready to be explored. One that I want to see explored. I don’t want the undeserved reaction to this game to prevent Striking Distance Studios from further realizing the world (or solar system) of Callisto. P.S: I would recommend checking out the audio drama “Helix Station” which was finished just before the release of Callisto Protocol. It takes place within the same universe, but isn’t directly connected to the events of the game. It’s 6 22 minute long episodes, and is worth the listen.

Truth is it's a gorgeous looking mid game. It just doesn't do anything outstanding. It really didn't scare me much. Just cheap jump scares. The tension wasn't implemented well and the combat is really janky and amateurish. I enjoyed beating and shooting these enemies but it gets old quick.

I consider the game a masterpiece. Sadly, gamers weren't ready for its combat - and the PC launch state was very unfortunate. Eventually, it will be appreciated as a cult classic - but obviously that won't help the developers gain any kind of recognition that actually matters for future games.

Even though I haven't played this but from what I'm seeing here is the game rely and focus more on inflicting brutal hits on the enemies which makes it more like an action game than being a tension filled survival horror. And I can't help comparing this to Dead Space because Dead Space while being having action but it's mechanics rely on you making the right decisions. That game gave off a sense of helplessness even when you are dismembering Necromorphs.

The Callisto Protocol is the first survival horror game I’ve ever played from start to finish. What an amazing experience. Gonna play more games in that genre now. Just bought the Dead Space remake.
I just started playing this game and have never played a sci fi survival horror game before. So far I think it's amazing. Graphics are killer and the sound track is super creepy and atmospheric. The extreme gore might not be for everyone but it totally works for this. The melee mechanics takes some time getting used to but it's like that whenever you play a completely new type of game. I play it on PS4 and can only imagine the PS5 graphics. I don't find it particularly scary most of the time but there are some great jump scares. Can't wait to dig in more to this amazing world that has been created.
I see The Callisto Protocol as a production that has a very high potential, but the creators can not use it or show a great pity, perhaps the creators will draw conclusions from their first project and create a continuation will surprise by cutting off completely from Dead Space and fans will get the real The Callisto Protocol, which will show something completely new, real horror made of flesh and blood 😉
I played The Callisto Protocol and to be honest the developers did not use their potential, something fresh or new is missing, most of it is just copy paste from Dead Space, not to mention the combat mechanics, which is not thought out, as well as dodging, for me the most important drawback is the lack of real horror, I do not feel horror, I would like to be scared or jump out of fear, if Striking Distance Studios cut itself off completely from Dead Space, they could have created something impressive, you can see that The studio has very high skills graphics, lighting, climate, sound, character animations had to be created by real specialists If they created production only for new consoles using all the latest technologies and the potential of new equipment, you can say one quality at the highest level 🤔
I don’t hate this game, but it is a lacking experience in a few areas. The story is basically Resident Evil 2 in space. Not necessarily a bad thing just an unoriginal story. The scare factor is absent in my experience and it’s criminally short for a game that charged $70. With that said I actually enjoyed the combat gameplay. It felt great to go toe to toe with these hideous monsters. The graphics are absolutely fantastic and models are extremely detailed. I just find that there’s too many things about the game that disappointed me rather than impressed me. I’d like to see the studio get another chance to improve but I’m not sure what might happen because the game reviewed badly for the most part. I’d say it’s a good game but not a great one. Though I’d be willing to try a sequel if it ever happens.
This game didn’t flop tbh, the company just gave an unrealistic expectation for a brand new IP. The gang sold well over 2 million copies (which is a standard success) but the goal they were given was 5 million which kinda makes sense given how awesome this cast is.

Some of the absolute worst combat styling and attempt of a combat video game I have ever seen. Sometimes new things work great, sometimes they don't. Great environment, great theme, great acting, great characters, design, but man. That combat... unplayable I'm sorry.
Got to love the staff using face diapers while doing the motion capture but the actors dont have too. So the logic is the virus doesn't touch actors at all only the off camera people 🤣
Besides Karen Furukawa and good visuals, I found NOTHING OF VALUE in this game. What is a shame, I expected more from the guys of Dead Space. Irony will be if the remake of Dead Space turn out to be very good (or fairly decent). Either way, avoid this trash, it's a waste of time and money that you could expend in dozen of better (indie or not) horror games!
I’ve been playing this for about 6 hrs and I have to be honest, it’s okay at best. I also haven’t felt sacred at all so far which is really disappointing.
Game ended up being a bore. Runs a lot better and looks great, but man the combat sucks ass. I also absolutely have not been scared yet with its shitty jump scares. Please Dead Space remake be good. IDK why people think Glen is some master. He made Dead Space....one game. His other games are pretty meh. Well minus his Barbie game....that may be his scariest.

L O L
That was a rumor started by IGN. Not real.
they also cut out the ending to sell back as DLC / season pass. it literally ends on a spit in your face cliffhanger just so they can sell it back as DLC. the ending ahem "ENDING" was so insulting
Ign lies
DLC ending is shit
Some of the absolute worst combat styling and attempt of a combat video game I have ever seen. Sometimes new things work great, sometimes they don't. Great environment, great theme, great acting, great characters, design, but man. That combat... unplayable I'm sorry.
It's ok but when compared to dead space it comes up short and that ending is just a giant "fuck you buy the season pass for the real ending".
The game isn’t scary at all. I’m about 6 hrs in and I haven’t felt scared once 😂
steam's review system destroys the gaming industrie. should be shutted down! i dont need other peoples opinions!!!
saved me money, love steam reviews. Game deserved all the backlash
Why the word's "Brutality" and keep saying "Brutality" 🤣 but the gameplay is so Short...
12 hrs isn't bad at all, plus wtf does your comment pointing out brutality have to do with how long the game is?
i think brutality belong to mortal kombat than any other game...
Never played confirmed
You expected another dead space instead of a completely different game.
Lol you never played it this game is fun af and feels extremely fluid.. on ps5 at least
I’ve been playing this for about 6 hrs and I have to be honest, it’s okay at best. I also haven’t felt sacred at all so far which is really disappointing.
They forgot to make the game fun.
Could say the same for elden ring
Would you say Dead Space 1 is fun, concretely?
@@Kara-de5cz Aside from having a shit pc port and not benefiting from the improvements of DS2, I'd say yes it's still alot of fun
I really don't want a horror game to be fun. I don't find Resident Evil or games like Until Dawn fun to play. However, they're successful horrors.
@@movingcastle1 I think it's a better game than DS2
I've played many horror games. Callisto is simply annoying. Very difficult to finish this nonsense. 😕
60€ for a 6h game
the perfect horror experience. is that what you really are trying to tell people? dear lord..... there are games 15-20 years older than this that are infinitely more scary than this garbage was...which is a shame because nobody was shilling harder than i was for this game and to have played through it, i cannot put into words my disappointment
Fear is subjective, just like humor, that's why I'm laughing at your comment
Everything Josh Duhamel touches. It reeks of failure. Look at his career.
