It's only the riff that covers the verses in "Paradise City", and not the chorus riff, which is the popularly noted one. Most bands that don't try playing a riff from an older song-in a different key-will usually just pick one and pump it up with some good noise, like they do here (pretty well, I might add).
If you want a complete ripoff song, listen to "All Summer Long" by Kid Rock: the guitars from Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama" and piano from Warren Zevon's "Werewolves of London"
