Australia became a nation on 1 January 1901, when the British Parliament passed legislation enabling the six Australian colonies to collectively govern in their own right as the Commonwealth of Australia. Does not matter if they were a Commonwealth or Country, least have the respect toi name them with the others who fought and died. Anzac's did a lot at this battle, along with many other's.
Australia. A colony of the "British Empire". Even though it's become a self- ruling dominion after 1901. It's never gained independence even after the collapse of the empire.
@@silas5704 That isn't remotely correct. The British no longer have any constitutional links to Australia and cannot make or pressure the Australian Government in to creating any legislation or deciding foreign policy. In 1901 Australia ceased to be a collection of several colonies and federated into the Commonwealth of Australia, a respective state in it's own right and a Dominion (not colony) of the Empire. In 1975 the last links were cut, meaning that Australia is a legitimately free sovereign state. The only link to the UK being it's status as a Commonwealth realm.
@@doomfireblade2693 incorrect, 1901 they became completely self governing and not deemed a colony like Hong Kong for example. From 1901 they elected their first prime minister in Barton

Australia is technically a part of the british empire along with its colonies.
There were more quadruple more Brits than ANZAC forces in the Gallipoli campaign.
