    I remember covering this when the FOM allowed those races on YT for a certain period of time. I do remember uploading this over on Dailymotion a handful of years ago.

    This is a fascinating upload. Thank you very much! Love this sort of behind-the-scenes stuff, and massive kudos to the ITV team for their professionalism throughout a very difficult (for many reasons) broadcast.

    The reason this race didn't happen was because Ferrari saw a chance to take advantage of Michelin's ineptness to get an easy win. Mosely went along with it.
    The fact the FIA came up with the rule that you couldn't change tyres in a race, then didn't offer a compromise is the real joke. It's rather ironic that they made this judgment while putting in tyre chicanes in some corners in 1994 after Imola.
    Also a lot of people don't realise is that the only reason Jordan and Minardi took the start was because Collin Kolles arrogantly decided to race and Paul Stoddart only raced because Jordan raced.
    It was going to be just the 2 Ferraris. Oh what a sight that would have been.

    • @RANDOMZBOSSMAN1
      @RANDOMZBOSSMAN1 6 месяцев назад +4

      Kolles by choosing to race also knew it would essentially guarantee P9 for Jordan over Minardi as the 11 points gained to Minardi 7 meant Minardi would need 5 points to overtake them in the WCC and everyone knew Minardi will never be able to make up the gap
      The needs of the few outweighed the needs of many
      Also Ferrari saw it potentially as payback for Spain earlier that year when Bridgestone had major tire issues with Michael leading to a DNF

      Tracks need to be homologated and they also have to pass a safety inspection. In order to change the track it would have to be homologated again and pass a safety inspection.I
      To not follow this and there was an accident (which could involve spectator injuries) the USA being one of the most litigious countries in the world would have been a disaster.
      I had been to the first four races as part of a trip to the USA and this was the first race there I had not been to.

      Ferrari are not to blame, Michelin are solely to blame, a competitor looking for an edge is not something you can lay at their feet. What should of happened is the chicane gets built, as punishment the Michelin teams start in the pit's a lap down after the 6 Bridgestone runners have gone past.
      That way the teams don't get a free out of jail card and the race goes on with the full set of cars. top 2 would of been the same outcome, but at least a full race would of taken place. FIA however were incompetent.

    This was such a stupid move by fia and f1 not to try and compromise, even all the other team where willing to race for no points, stupid Ferrari thinking only of them selfs and not the wider impact on the sport.

    • @simonkevnorris
      @simonkevnorris 5 месяцев назад

      I believe earlier in the year Ferrari had a,problem and the other teams prevented the change. Also tracks need to be homologated and to alter them without this process could be a legal nightmare if anything went wrong.

      @darylyatestransportblogs Год назад +1

      Only Ferrari would have raced as Minardi weren’t going to either but needed the points as Jordan raced but said they weren’t if you ask me this is why there should be a single tyre suppler that why races like this won’t happen plus the stupid single set of tyres for qualifying and the race which was the primary cause of this since tyres couldn’t be replaced before they failed.
