Myanmar-China fence was built to mostly prevent drug trade in that region. During WW2, ROC sent troops to Myanmar to fight Japanese, but as KMT was defeated by the commies soon after WW2, some of KMT's land forces retreated into the forest in northern Myanmar. After KMT fled to Taiwan, it couldn't afford maintaining supply and logistics of this military presence in Myanmar, and (I might be wrong here) subsequently decommissioned these regiments. However, instead of letting them to surrender to PRC or bring them to Taiwan, they just left them in Myanmar. These militants became the local warlords and started to grow poppies to finance/support themselves. Note, these aren't from creditable sources because it's a dark history for both sides. The true stories are covered by both sides. Only rumors and tales told by people from that region.

But there are hundreds of thousands of drug dealers, illegal gambling, smuggle and even deal of organs are prevailing in this area, I knew some people who live near this border and is constantly harassed by warlords' troops and threatened, it's just a place of chaos, it's common to have small war there. As China is extremely strict on drugs due to its past history more than 100 years ago, the wall makes it harder for drugs to go into China as well as smuggle.

Based on my understanding, those soldiers left/abandoned in Myanmar eventually moved to northern Thailand many decades ago (might have been kicked out by Myanmar). A lot of their descendants now live in Mae Salong and I visited it in 2012. I stumbled across a school which taught children textbooks donated by the ROC government.

But the land that he said "BELONGS" to India (Arunachal Pradesh) is a state which has been a rightful part of the Indian territory since its independence, ocuupied by Indian citizens and the claim by China is nonsense with no backing. They already have problems with their claim to tibet which is disputed, let alone this so called south tibet of theirs lol. As he commented, wishful thinking. @@lamewater772 The concept of a nation's "legal" territory is inherently subject to change over history, wars, and various events. If you firmly believe that a specific area objectively belongs to a certain country, you should take a look at the extent of China's Yuan dynasty's territory. The territories we discuss as "disputed" indicate that the narrator should not have any bias regarding their ownership. When you presuppose that a place strictly "belongs" to a particular country, your understanding of the word "disputed" has already been skewed. What you are doing is merely reinforcing and justifying your pre-existing stance with that same stance.

I think there is a major point missing in this video: Namely, that almost all of these territorial disputes have not simply been created by China’s Communist Party, but have been inherited (and later exacerbated) from the Chinese Republic and to some degree from the Qing era.
These border conflicts are the result of the absolute mess that we call the 20th century, and unfortunately the video doesn’t really reflect that. By watching, one instead gets the feeling that these disputes have mainly been orchestrated by the modern Chinese government. And while there are plenty of gross violations of international laws and norms that one can lay onto Beijing’s feet, these border disputes have a far more complicated story than that.
I also think that this outlook on China’s border conflicts actually minimizes the gravity of the situation, because one gets the feeling that if China was to become a democracy overnight, these problems would go away. Unfortunately, they would not, which may be exemplified by the fact that Taiwan holds almost the same, if not larger territorial claims. Taiwan also argues that the 9 (or 11) dash line is valid - and it has shown little interest to compromise on this stance thus far.
And while I understand the message of the video was to make a point about the political weight of creating maps, its still important to at least hint at the complexity and debatable story behind these disputes - even if there is no time to explain them in a short video, which is of course understandable.

This video characterizes China as a land grabber, which is not surprising. I think even people with scant knowledge of China know that premodern China has never been a land-grabbing belligerent. What they really mean is that Communist China is a land grabber. But is it? Communist China's territorial management has been studied by Taylor Fravel, a political scientist at MIT, who published a book called "Strong Borders, Secure Nation," concluding that Communist China is a land conceder and has not land-grabbed any of its neighbors. Taylor Fravel is a China hawk, so even he has admitted that China is not a land grabber. There is a land grabber by the way and that is India. Today, the territory of India is much bigger than it was in 1947, and all the land it acquired was through invasion and subjugation. You should find out how India's 'Seven Sister States' became part of India.
Talking about maps in 1912, the first full year of the Republic of China (nowadays usually referred to as Taiwan) after the fall of the Qing dynasty, the United States National Geographic Society dedicated an issue on China and with the issue it included a very large and detailed foldout map of China. If you go to the area close to Bhutan, you can see the town of Tawang and the surrounding area, which is clearly within China. Today, Tawang is occupied by India, and the surrounding area is called Arunachal Pradesh by India. In fact, as late as the late 1940s after World War II, the flag of the Republic of China (nowadays usually referred to as Taiwan) was flying high in Tawang. Today, it is the Indian flag that is flying there. And India is still promoting the narrative that India is a hapless victim of an expansionist China.

Funny facts, China's territorial disputes with countries along the Himalayas stem from the borders that Britain arbitrarily drew on a map when it withdrew from colonizing Indochina (Pakistan and India's conflicts are due to the same reason). And the root cause of China's territorial disputes in the South China Sea is also due to the geopolitical needs of the United States to carve up the world at the end of the Second World War. As for Taiwan, it was included in China's jurisdiction eight centuries ago until it was colonized by Japan in World War II. As a youtuber, there is so much history you need to catch up on.

I don’t understand who’s really bullying the Chinese people and who’s actually protecting them from invasion of foreign imperialist.
US knew that bombing your own people is absurd and unacceptable, they refused the stupid request and asked Taiwan to accept their failure. No need to mention the Chiang Kai Shek government constantly refuse and intentionally undermining China’s peace and democratization process.
US in 1945 was helping the KMT in democratisation process, but Chiang Kai Shek only wants to be another new emperor and rule. The current independent idea of Taiwan has no historical background, political evidence and diplomatic support from most countries of the world, which means no body support Taiwan for independence internationally. Not because people are afraid of China or other bullshit, because Taiwan government was a piece of shit and it’s still like this, so no other country is happy that he’s back in UN and make everyone unhappy.
And no legal reason or evidence in supporting the independence of Taiwan.
The fun fact: if Taiwan should independent, then Northern Ireland should be independent from UK too. Because a simply fact: UK government was bullying Irish people and a part of Ireland is already independent. The Northern Ireland is a sign of colonialism and imperialism. Why American people don’t go to help Irish people to fight for their legal rights?

@@Xiezi_0125 Your claim just doesn't make sense at all. Even after the chinese civil war ended and PRC gained total control over chinese mainland, United Nations kept denying that PRC is a lawful representative for Chinese people. And when PRC slowly re-gained global power with its military and world's biggest market, UN declared that PRC is a representative of chinese people. Not even a single country cut diplomatic ties with taiwan just because ROC is a piece of shit. That's just because they are scared of economic backlash. It's even nonsense to compare northern ireland to Taiwan. Northern Irish and British government officials signed 'Belfast Agreement' which makes northern ireland still be a part of UK. Taiwanese problem is totally different thing. And It's kinda reality that Taiwan is de facto independent country. I'm not saying that Taiwan is completely independent and international community broadly accepted it, but i just wanted to point out that your opinion contains a bit of misinformation and biased point of view.

    1. The tenth dash line in the South China Sea has always existed; it's just that the previous maps were horizontal, and the South China Sea was displayed in a small section, where only nine dashes could be seen. The old version with Taiwan included has been available, so wouldn't it be reasonable to consult the old version map before making a video?
    2. Originally, there were 11 dashes in the South China Sea, but due to the clear demarcation of the boundary between China and Vietnam in the northern Gulf, it was canceled.
    3. When the eleven-dash line was drawn in the South China Sea, the surrounding countries were still colonies. If we really want to discuss it, their countries were established around China, rather than the eleven-dash line extending to their surroundings. As a victorious country in World War II, the South China Sea was within China's sphere of influence at that time (supported by navigation maps and historical records), and it was tacitly approved by the United States and others. Just because China is now a communist country and not your Western ally doesn't mean you can ignore historical facts.
    4. There has always been a traditional customary line in the southern Tibet region, and the Chinese government (since the Republic of China) has never recognized the McMahon Line (falsified by the British government in 1935). Regarding the Sino-Indian issue, I suggest you look into the Sino-Indian War of the 1960s to understand who invaded whom and who initiated the war. India not only invaded Chinese territory beyond the traditional customary line but also crossed the McMahon Line before China counterattacked.
    5. Taiwan (Republic of China government) used to make claims about the mainland, or it would be more accurate to say that the Republic of China government's claims were broader. This included present-day Mongolia, parts of the far northwest (part of West Asian countries), the Tannu Uriankhai (now the Tuva Republic of Russia). The Republic of China government also claimed that the Diaoyu Islands belonged to China.

@@johnnyharris First of all, the boundary agreement signed by the so-called representatives of Britain and Tibet was illegal because the central government at the time was the Qing government and the Qing government had never agreed to the boundary drawn by the British. The so-called Tibetan representatives were purely directed and acted by the British. Second, the territory of the East India Company that India illegally inherited has never belonged to India in history. Even India was the only regime to annex a sovereign country after World War II. India illegally annexed Sikkim. Third, the United States is the first country in the world to recognize China’s maritime territory in the South China Sea. In order to allow the Republic of China to fight against the Japanese Empire in the South China Sea, the United States proactively recognized the South China Sea. When China was managing the territory of the South China Sea, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Vietnam How could this sea area belong to these countries when they are not yet independent but are still colonies? The fourth channel is a common white baboon anti-China media that guides public opinion by fabricating false history, taking quotes out of context, and false implications.

The CPC and the Chinese Kuomintang were different political parties in a country decades ago. The political ideas of the two parties were different. The Kuomintang lost its popular support. The Communist Party was once maimed by the Kuomintang and forced to flee to remote mountainous areas in China. Later, it continued to grow and prosper under the condition of material shortage, and the surrounding of cities by rural areas won. Since then, China has split into two regions, and China has not fully achieved reunification. Although some of their grandparents hope to return, it has little impact on the overall situation. The people of Chinese Mainland do not want to recover by force. They have been helping Taiwan businessmen economically and interacting with each other in cultural exchanges for many years. However, under the political leadership of the United States, China can only tolerate. Because the mainland has always believed that a family should have a bottom line and not harm ordinary people. We cannot lose the hearts of the people. So I haven't played for so many years. Chinese culture has had a tradition of unified collectivism since ancient times, sacrificing one's own small family for the sake of a larger family. In the past century, China was bullied by many countries, and the Nationalist and Communist governments in Taiwan drove away the Japanese aggressors in such an era. Eventually, they dispersed due to political beliefs and party struggles. Why should a family be fooled by reality? Fate has caused Chinese people too much, but in the end, I want to say that Chinese people will always strive for self-improvement and create their own future with their own efforts. No one can hinder us from achieving our unified goal. No one can abandon the relationship between bloodline cultures.

What is missed, is the terrain in this flat plain is above 15,000 feet (4.5 km) high, unlike any other place on continents elsewhere. It creates huge physiological (& psychological) problems. In all wars, from times immemorial till modern times, it is the troops on land, that hold the land for that country. 1962 war proved it. Air force's role is secondary & as pressure point sea-warfare is tertiary. It is the will of men on ground to hold that ground that is crucial. Galwan incident amply proved it. At these altitudes (& in winter particularly) aircraft may not take off & tanks may not move. The will hold the land was not there in the Indian Army in 1962 (though a heroic bunch of 105 defying orders of superior officers)held the ground at Rezang la. In the heap of bodies taken as dead, 5 soldiers were found alive. This time too PLA made repeated forays to take it but couldn't (his time Tibetans with Indian Army did it). India still possesses tactical advantages.
Helicopters that are taken for granted, to land or pick soldiers & supplies, as made in the West are useless (Chinook & Apache of American make have service ceiling of 6km - there is no need to for them - while terrain demands higher performance). India saw that need & has to design own helicopters. In 1962, C-113 packet couldn't land or take off. Indian aircraft factory put a "jet pack" on top, to compensate for lower performance at these high altitudes. I heard that 18 ton "light" tanks with parachutes tied to each corner were dropped from air, as it is insane to ask for roads here. Many of them got reduced to heaps of metals & were cannibalised for those who were still mobile. It is a multi-dimensional warfare here, that if I start writing it'll become a book. Let someone write (not me).
In these skirmishes (by the dozen) both sides can't use fire-arms as per pacts made as PRC claims that India is a friendly country after 4 decades of bloody incidents (only in 1990s the then Indian Defence minister, George Fernandes declared that PRC is India's No.1 enemy relegating Pakistan to a minor place). So one sees a comic show of troops from both sides doing Sumo-wrestling at altitudes higher than M. Denali - at times with a contrived smile on faces. It is painful that reminds Albert Einstein prophecy of WW III. It seems that one of the goals in their 5 year plans is
(how much)territory acquired that year from the neighbour ! Chinese are inscrutable & have no doubts about it.

There had been human trafficking happening around the boarder. Many Chinese men and women are kidnapped to Myanmar and subsequently into force labor or even killed. 3. Drug smuggling. What you may not know is that all the maps, territories, and territorial claims of mainland China, including the 10-dash line and other territorial and map rules, are legally inherited from the Autumn Leaf Begonia map of the Republic of China government (the former regime of the Kuomintang, the opposition party of the current Taiwan government, which still calls itself the Republic of China, and the People’s Republic of China also agrees to recognize the Republic of China and Chinese Taipei under the “only one China” principle, which is widely accepted by the United States, Europe, and the United Nations). Moreover, compared to the territorial claims of the Autumn Leaf Begonia map (Outer Mongolia, Outer Northeast, Outer Northwest), the disputed territorial claims of mainland China are less than 1% of the Autumn Leaf Begonia map’s territorial claims. According to the principles of international law, the People’s Republic of China government is the legal successor of the Republic of China, and has the right to claim all the inheritance of the Republic of China, including territory, population, state machinery, and state assets. The biggest problem now is that the Republic of China in Taiwan has not been completely wiped out. When they completely give up their sovereignty claims over the Republic of China, the CCP, as the legal successor of the Republic of China, will also be normal to carry out the final recovery of the Republic of China’s territory and population.

    • @carlolatz7487
      @carlolatz7487 4 месяца назад

The Republic of China (Taiwan) is technically still claiming all these territories (which even includes the whole country of Mongolia), but of course they in no way enforce these claims. The claims only still exist because the PRC is basically forcing Taiwan to keep them. The Taiwanese people by an overwhelming majority want Taiwan to be a sovereign state, independent from Mainland China. The PRC is threatening to invade Taiwan if they formally declare independence. Meaning, if Taiwan would change their official claim of territory to only include Taiwan and the Islands around it (which is all they are actually in control of), the PRC would retaliate severely, maybe even invade. For Taiwan it's of course not worth it to officially change some claims that no-one (including them) actually takes seriously.
And besides that, no country has the right to forcefully annex territory just because some map drawn one hundred years ago included them somewhere.

In the South China Sea sections, you are accurate that China also has disputes with other countries bordering the South China Sea: Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam. However, there is one other country that also has disputes with the Nine-dash Line: Indonesia (my home country). The disputes with the other countries are mostly regarding the Spratly Islands, but not with Indonesia. So, Indonesia’s EEZ in the South China Sea overlaps with the Nine-dash Line, which is the source of the tension; I watched a video when Indonesia was planting an oil rig, presumably close to the Nine-dash Line (whereas it is within Indonesia's own waters), and that Chinese vessels were sent to patrol the site.

In his state, Ladakh, including Aksai Chin were parts. Thus India as inheritor had jurisdiction over these regions. Yet, in 1950s, PRC built a road across Aksai Chin (that the Indian authorities hadn't got even a smell of it), nomenclature-d as G219 in their maps - to connect Tibet with Xinjiang. Aksai Chin is attached to their Xinjiang.

This video represents the view of most foreigners that any disputed territory is not considered China. Before the emergence of international law, the South China Sea belonged to China. What qualifications does a later law have to delineate China's territory? The McMahon Line is the same. What qualifications does a British person have to unilaterally cede Chinese territory to India? China's claim that the territory in the South China Sea is an invasion of Southeast Asia, and India's migration of population to southern Tibet is not an invasion. Yes, even in legends & mythology. The cultural bonds are too deep.
We are a two weeks away from the coming Diwali (Deepavali, meaning an array of lights). The legend (mythology) is this.
The region around River Brahmaputra was known as Prag`jyotisha pura (Eastern Zodiacal town) ruled by a demons king, Naraka. Lord Krishna to subdue him & release the people from his tyranny went there riding his mount, the eagle "Garuda" (now the mascot of Indonesian Airways). His favourite wife "Sathya" said she'd accompany him. So, the couple went & engaged in a battle with Naraka`asura, who was well-protected by the forces of nature. After a while Krishna was hit by an arrow that made him unconscious. Then a furious Sathya took the bow & shot a row of arrows that killed Naraka`asura. Then Krishna was revived. It could be that Naraka`asura gazing at Sathya, he has forgotten about the battle he was engaged in. The killing of Naraka`asura is observed a day before Diwali, with fire-crackers & such explosions to signify the war. He freed sixteen thousand & odd young "dames" the dead king imprisoned. Krishna told them to go to their respective families. But the crowd of young girls raised a cry & said "we're not going home". Krishna asked "why?". They said they wouldn't be accepted by their parents, being prisoners of someone & that they didn't accept. It is a matter of their honour or chastity. There was an argument. Finally, the girls pointed a way out that would restore their esteem (or respect). They wanted Krishna (who has 8 wives) to marry them all, as that would also enhance their status of Krishna's wives that the people would respect. Krishna did that & returned home to Dwaraka, some 2000 km to the west. Flippant & even lewd comments are made on this act of Krishna without realising the honour that was restored to the girls. Even now Krishna cult is predominant in Brahmaputra valley & in Manipur (Jewel city) predominantly .
Another character, the main hero in Maha`Bharata war, Arjuna (comparable to Ulysses in Greek mythology) committed a small mistake & as penance had to leave home (& his four brothers). He came to Manipur & the princess there, Ulupi fell in love with him & married. A son was born to them, even. After the stipulated time Arjuna returned home. The war started soon after.

It's very very generalised. North-East region is generalised as a single whole, when it is not that way historically. Far from it. Even Arunachal Pradesh itself has different regions with different historical narratives, some associated with India(mainly the plains of current Northern Assam), but many if not most are not. The northwestern corner has historical ties with Tibet, that is what the media likes to focus on mostly, but that's only a corner of Arunachal Pradesh. In fact, most of the population reside on the inner central+eastern regions, which were independent and self-governed prior to British entry(often forcibly). Similarly, association with the Kirat very vague; they could have been Nepal, they could have been Bhutan, they could have been any Himalayan mountain dwelling group. That didn't provide the India the authority over it. I mean that in the nicest of ways.
The true fact remains none of Tibet, China, or British India had a full control over the region initially. It was mostly independent. Tibet had trade ties, but was never in political control of the current whole region. British India made the first move to politically capture the land, they agreed the boundary with Tibet in a treaty which China pulled out of; British India marched ahead regardless of China's withdrawal. And hence the current mess.

The funniest part of China saying this all about maps being so important and that they must be right is that they don’t allow any maps to be made by companies outside of China so if you ever use google maps or anything to try to find your way around in China you’ll find that basically everything is wrong because it is all scrambled.

    • @vonB-kw4th
      @vonB-kw4th 4 месяца назад +5

I think you’re wrong about this. Are you saying that China has to use maps made by Western countries, and that only Western products are right? I’ve done some research on the history. China and the US drew the nine-dash line when the neighboring countries didn’t even exist, and they later reduced it because it was unfair. China was very weak back then. The US has been trying to stop China and Russia from growing, and wanted to break up China like they did with the Soviet Union. But as China’s military power increased, China refused to accept being surrounded and humiliated, and started to take back the original borders. If there’s a dispute, they can argue it at the UN. You can’t just say that these countries own the coastline because they’re close to it. When China divided the coastline, these countries were still tribes.

@@vonB-kw4th I legitimately didn’t talk about any of that at all, so I don’t know what you’re even really talking about. It was even mentioned in the video that for security reasons Chinese companies scramble exact locations of things. Western based companies aren’t allowed to make exact maps of China and are forced to rely the ones China gives them. It’s a common fact that they do this. Now on to the random thing you brought up, there are countless instances in history of countries deciding and making territorial claims on their own or with just a small selection of other countries and those claims even though historical almost never hold up today. I haven’t done any research on this, but I can tell you that even if what you said is true which I doubt is true because there have been people living in all of these areas for long before the US was even a country. Even if you think this is wrong can you not see how incredibly hostile. China has been to their neighbors and how even after gaining more and more land they still push to get just a little bit more? I believe the UN should actually be much harsher on how it is able to treat countries that do things like this like Russia as well. It is clear that these countries and governments and leaders that have no qualms with taking land by almost any means necessary just because of “historical” claim (which we all know is just an excuse as it has been for many countries trying to expand their borders in history). The nine dash like in and of itself is completely incoherent with UN laws on claims on territorial waters. These rules are already stretched thin in the area as was also stated in the video with the drawing of various countries territorial water claims and how they all overlap. The fact is that China keeps changing their claims and exerting influence where they don’t belong in an effort to gain more control and that cannot be denied if you do any legitimate research.

@@Sitskier123 Isn't it normal for China not to recognize maps made by Western countries? Isn't that common knowledge? Would the U.S. allow China to create maps of America, marking Alaska or Hawaii as separate countries? Japan wouldn't permit China to mark Okinawa as the Ryukyu Kingdom on its maps, right? Everyone knows the U.S. expects the world to serve its interests and doesn't allow other countries to share the stage. Their tactic is to divide nations and interfere in their internal affairs. In today's world, only China and Russia possess this capability, with China being the most prominent. It's among the few countries not controlled by U.S. military presence in its territories. Countries hosting U.S. troops are hardly sovereign; they merely cater to U.S. interests. As for China's territorial waters, every nation claims its version based on historical evidence, right? It's not about trusting just China or other countries; it's about considering all evidence and letting nations worldwide vote or decide. Look at Israel and Palestine today; Israel labels Palestine as a terrorist organization, while Palestine claims Israel has occupied its land for decades and they're forced to retaliate. But power often dictates authority, even when everyone knows the truth. Lastly, why does the West overlook their own country's expansion and suppression of other nations' survival conditions while pointing fingers at others? Isn't that like saying 'I can insult or hit you, but you can't'? Do you understand what I'm saying? The West often holds double standards. What can small nations do apart from fearing the dominance of larger powers?

11:52 - The Permanent Court of Arbitration is not a UN court. It's basically a NGO that some special interest groups pulled together. USA does not abide by its rulings. What makes you think any country has any legal obligation to abide by its ruling - the court has no jurisdiction whatsoever.
12:00 - "International law says belonging to these neighboring countries" and 12:49 - "Right inside the waters that the world has agreed belong to these other countries" - which part of the world has agreed? Are you referring to a specific convention or international law? Please enlighten me.
12:21 - There are many islands and isles in South China Sea. Why don't you put up a list of which countries control the most of them? That's right, because it's going to show that Vietnam actually controls the most of these islands.
