I like my X-T30 II. But fell in love with my OM-5. It’s virtually the same size, but with IBIS and weather sealing. And the AF is great. Not sure if M43 cameras will ever get popular with the X-100V crowd, but the GX-85 and OM-5 are definitely sleepers.

Two years ago I bought x100v for a few reasons already having MFT: size, hopefully better low light capabilities for indoors, and I expected Panasonic MFT cameras are dead except of huge video orientated GH series. So for me it was camera to complement G80 which is fun to use.

My XT-20 is in silver, and I can’t tell you how many people have stopped me asking if it was a film camera. I have been a photographer since picking up photography while serving in the army, back in 1959. I bought the XT-20 from KEH a few years ago. Service was good and the warranty gave me enough time to make sure it was a good quality camera. The camera had never had its firmware updated so who ever had owned it before probably hadn’t used it much. On the other hand I use it almost daily.

  • @carringtonvisuals2983
    @carringtonvisuals2983 Год назад +15

I would say the XT30 is more versatile for sure, but for everyday and travel, I'm using the X100V hands down. The X100V is just simpler so you don't have to worry about bringing different lenses for different shots, you get a 35mm equivalent and that's it. I mean, I do have the TCL as well, but I don't bring that for everything.
The X100V has everything else that you mentioned as well, the same sensor as the XPro 3, built in flash, the same video specs, and even a built-in ND filter that you can use for both photo and video. I use the ND filter every day I take the X100V with me. And I personally like the rangefinder style, and even love the fact that I can use the EVF or change it to an optical viewfinder.
But again, if price was an issue, especially since the resale of the X100V has skyrocketed, the xT30 is a no brainer. I would even argue that the XE4 might even be the better buy.

I think the XT30 body is superior to the X100S for hybrid photography. As you state, the XT30 is a mini XT3. There are so many video feature to choose from. Some people dig the fixed lens. Many will want the option to change lenses. It all comes down to what you want.
I choose not to upgrade bodies to the XT30ii. The improvements are incremental. If buying new I don’t think I’d pay extra for that body. It all comes down to your needs and how much you are willing to spend. For me, the XT30 is the right choice.

The ability to have interchangeable lenses is a big bonus for flexibility to get closer to your subjects on vacation especially in mountainous areas. However the prime lens in the X100V is much better than the Fuji prime lenses you mentioned. When you buy a range finder type camera the glass is everything. One of the main reasons Leica photos look so good. The T3, T30ll all are great values especially these days when you see X100V prices hovering above $1700.

Did you ever try the XT20? I prefer the sensor and image quality over the one in my XT3 (and I presume XT30). Seems more contrasty and punchy to me, less washed out. Plus it has a beeeeeeautiful clicky, super useful d-pad and the shutter sounds like a dream. AF is still perfectly usable. I only really reach for my XT3 if I need better af-c...
I'm with you on wanting to give that 18f2 a spin. Some magic in those old lenses. The xf60 is much maligned and def worth having a peek at...

There are only three photographic reasons to want an X100 series camera over an X-T10/20/30 or X-E3/4:-
    1. You want or need to use the OVF
    2. You want or need to use flash with high shutter speeds
    3. You only want to ever shoot the 35mm FOV in a compact form and are not bothered about not being able to change your lens
If you are not going to use these features, for taking pictures the X-T10 etc and X-E3/4 are way more sensible purchases.
If of course you just want to look cool and follow the latest fad and don't mind paying a premium go ahead and buy an X100 camera.
Personally I own a X100T (I prefer the output from the older sensor) which I use on occasions for reasons 1 and 2 above, and just for a change now and again. Overwhelmingly though my X-T1 and X-T0 see far more use. The X-T1 with all manner of different lenses and the X-T10 usually with the 27mm f2.8.
Booray Perry put it very well using a Jeep (Wrangler, I think the model was) as an analogy. Why buy a 4X4 if you never take it off road?

Yeah I have an XT1 but recently bought a mint X100V second hand from a camera store now they are available. I think I’m going to return it tomorrow. I loved the X100S and T when I had them but I think my tastes have changed. As you say the X trans II has a nicer rendering. The V has a clinical look to the images - this was somewhat the case with the earlier X100 cameras but not so much as with the V. I do like the sharpness though. I may stick with my trusty XT1 and 35mm f/1.4 - a combination that is just… chef’s kiss! I also never fully warmed to the 23mm focal length. Nice for people shots if you get close enough, I liked it for night photography, but for a lot of other stuff I walked away frustrated.

XE4 has entered the chat. If you can find one. Granted you trade smaller size for no grip, if you add the grip it adds height bringing it closer to the 30's height with the evf. I've owned the X100 a few times and each time I sway back to an XE w/18mm. A lot of this comes down to a SLR/rangefinder preference. I really wish they'd make a new version of the 18mm though, hopefully slightly smaller but definitely better AF. It's odd to me they've made a V2 of the 28mm but left the older 18mm alone for all these years.

XT-30 I and II are great cameras but I would never, never take them as backup or main camera for a wedding or anything else paid. The reason is single card slot. I had twice in my career card failure (once it was SanDisk Extreme PRO and the second was Lexar - I don't remember series here). I was on the safe side, as one it was in Nikon D810, and second time was in Sony A73. In both I had set saving RAWs to both cards. Double card slot is a must for me for a job. So as personal private daily, sure, why not. But as something that my clients rely on - hell no.

What made me interested in x100v was useable images straight out of camera (good filters), wifi connectivity, built in nd filter, decent lens, small form factor. Want a fast lens but not one that’s twice the size of the camera. So a good fast pancake but for a budget as well.

The issue with all these comparison videos is, that I have yet to see the person doing these while actually having owned both to make an objective comparison. Both camera's images DO DIFFER BY A LOT! Why? Because first - the lens on the X100V is is unique in optical design, because the rear element of the lens is closer to the sensor than on any interchangable lens Fuji, therefor generates a war "3 dimensional look" to the subjects. Second - while they are internally the same on paper, they are NOT the same in reality! Fuji claims the ProNeg film sim uses too much computing power to be featured in the X-Trans 4 sensor generation, but the X100v DOES have it and it somehow works and it looks just AMAZING! Not even later XT-30ii has the ProNeg film sim. Third - the XT-30 and XT-30ii produce a much more punchy and contrasty image with the exact same settings and film recipes, when everything on the X100V is more "subdued" but in the most pleasant ways. But this proves that internal processing just has to be different. Both are great cameras, but I feel like all these videos are a compensational measure because you couldn't get your hands on an actual X100V.

If Fujifilm is designing around their new battery I would not be surprised if there is not a successor to the X-T30(II). The new battery will not fit in that form factor. The X-S20 needed a slight increase in size to accommodate it. Additionally, the X-T5 is smaller than its predecessor, so it may be marketed as Fujifilm's "compact" stills camera when compared to the X-H2. I hope I'm wrong.
