Absolutely fantastic video! Cam belt changes are one of those things, very expensive to get someone else to do it for us, even more expensive if we do it ourselves to save money and mess it up. This video is excellent, really informative and shows that really anyone can do a belt change, so long as they take their time, no rush. The 206 8v engine is one of the more simple ones to do and certainly a good one to start on, but like any timing belt change it is easy to mess it up and write off the engine. Thanks for making this video and sharing your knowledge, I am sure many will benefit from it. Gets a big thumbs up from me!
I have just done a cylinder head gasket/water pump and timing belt on my 2001 1.1 206 so this video and the drive belt one came in very handy. I didn't remove the engine mount because I had plenty of room. Thanks for posting.
A fine "how to" guide presented in an easy to follow style. My son was given a 206 with the 1.4 engine and I want to replace the Timing Belt just in case it is overdue. Car runs well. I'm used to working on DOHC engines which are a bit more involved than SOHC ones like this. Even so, nice to have access to this fine guide. Thank you.
For piece of mind both flywheel and camshaft should be locked with pins for correct timing. just noticed that belt was still loose when you refitted it! yikes!
Thanks a lot! Quetsion: is it not possible to leave the mount in place but only undo the two bolts that are on the front side of the engine? The ones closest to you. That would also save getting the ECU out of the way. Probably will give you a little less wiggle room around the belt tho.
When you install the timing belt and spin the engine by hand do you do a full rotation and look the your marks go in the same spot after a full rotation/cycle?
Yes, good video. But I think it should be pointed out that 16mm is the spanner / socket size, not the size of the bolt, which are sized by the diameter of the bolt shank.
Excellent video with clear explanation and good pace. Well done. One question, where and how did you find the 8mm squsre drive?? The only thing I have that might fit is a sump plug key!
Thanks for that mate , great video... going to do mine , in fiesta 1.4 diesel ... I think il buy the locking tool , its on e bay for € 15 .. & does few other models
Good video :) But I have a question: If there's a manual tensioner on the car, can I replace it with a automatic tensioner? (while replacing the timing belt and waterpump) or is t not possible?
im changing my engine on mu tu1 saxo from the head up with the head from another identical engine would setting the timing up be the same as whats shown in video or would this be more complicated
I know this is an old video but I need to do the cam belt, water pump etc on a Citroen C3 which has basically the same engine and layout. Is this something an amature should attempt? I'm worried I'll bugger the timming up. I guess I'll just have to go for it. Wish me luck and thank you for making the video it's very informative 👍
Ok, got a small request, I just looked at your videos. What would be a good Idea is if they were in the make, model of car ie if it's a 206 then a 206 playlist and if its a vectra a vectra playlist this would make is easier for you subscribers. just a thought
My 2000 Peugeot Boxer petrol and LPG motor now misfires, any ideas as to fix this, unable get it running so will need to tow to garage or is there an easy fix. Thanks
check head is ok first that valves are not bent then carefully bring bottom pulley round to tdc if bottom pulley gets tight turn top cam shaft pulley to tdc if you cannot find marks on top pulley remove first sparkplug and where piston is turn carefully clockwise until piston is tdc use small screwdriver down port to feel . make sure the cam on one piston is closed both cam heels are facing up and level across then you have tdc ready to fit your belt.
Hi Stu,timing belt 120.000kms says the manual under normal driving 80.000kms under severe driving (city) or every 5 years. I'll let you to do conversion to miles, besides there is an online manual for 1.4hdi engines PSA group citroen and Peugeot, and you can also DL the Ford fiesta 1.4 TDCI engine service manual, it is the same engine. Water pumps with good coolant 50 to 50 ratio should last at least 120.000kms, with proper tensión on the belt, if you avertighten the timing belt this creates too much load on the wáter pump bearing, leading to premature failure, there is a tool to measure the right tensión, but it is expensive and hard to find it measures in SEEMS (they are french, they have to do it their way) but you can look very carefully how much tensión the belt have, taking note it is a stretched one, a new one should be a bit tighter, but with use it will stretch about 0,4 centimeters.
Hi I like your video. Its spot on. I need to do the same on my Peugeot 206 gti. Its been parked 2 years and need to be running. Would you know if the same applies for the 206 gti or is it different procedure? ''''Billi Joe
Very easy job, i didnt need to take off the engine mount etc as there is enough room to get in, My 1.4 8v had a different tensioner, but still easy to work out. All the parts inc water pump cost £55 garage wanted to charge £250, no special tools required except a pin to lock the camshaft and a bit of white paint.
I've read that Peugeot since merging with Fiat Chrysler that they plan on coming back to the U.S. and sell cars. If Peugeot does they need to learn from Fiat's mistakes now that they are planning to stop selling their Italian brands in the U.S. due to declining sales. Here are some key items Peugeot will have to meet in order to be successful in the U.S. 1. American's do not like diesel engines for powering their cars, only trucks. 2. American's do not like small displacement for cylinder engines like Europeans do because gas is much cheaper in the U.S. than Europe. 3. American's hate timing belts on engines because they have to be replaced and prefer timing chains on our engines and car manufactures that once used belts have gone back to timing chains. 4. Most European brands including the largest, Volkswagen have a poor reputation for reliability and are expensive to repair. Fiat's sales in the U.S. declined steeply after reentering the U.S. market after a few short years after negative feedback online from owners of Fiat's 500 and their Alfa Romeo brand products. Now Fiat is pulling out their Italian brands from the U.S. market because of poor sales.
dear publisher, you shouldn't fix the timming belt tenser like that you did in this video, the manual says that you have to tighten it then adjusting its tens by hanging a 1.5 KG whieght while fixing it through the square open in th tens ... I will explain it here: 1- put a squre metal rod in the square openning in te tens belt 2- attach a rope with a hanging wieght of 1.5 KG 3- tight the tens then slowly loosen it untill the 1.5 KG wieght is shown perpendicular to the ground then tighten the tense nut. 4- if you don't make it like that, you will move the water pump ax with extra timming belt tighten which leads to corruption of the ax inner part and cause leakage of coolant fluid as it happened to me. regards
I have called the dealership to change the distribution and they tell me that being such an old car (1999) they will surely have to order the spare parts from an external distributor to find them. I take them there so they can put original parts on me, not what they intend to do.
Absolutely fantastic video! Cam belt changes are one of those things, very expensive to get someone else to do it for us, even more expensive if we do it ourselves to save money and mess it up. I've changed my water pump today by only watching this tutorial, and actually it worked perfectly . thank you for your useful info.
I have just done a cylinder head gasket/water pump and timing belt on my 2001 1.1 206 so this video and the drive belt one came in very handy. I didn't remove the engine mount because I had plenty of room. Thanks for posting.

Thank you for this excellent explanatory demonstration of a timing belt removal and replacement. Wow, What a load of work!!!
Doesn't get much clearer than this! Excellent work and thanks.

Amazing. Followed it step by step and sorted it all out. Thank you so much
3 hours and 180 quid later managed it cheers mate
Quality video... and very clear instructions. Thanks from Bristol UK
Great video.
You make it look so easy lol
For piece of mind both flywheel and camshaft should be locked with pins for correct timing.
just noticed that belt was still loose when you refitted it! yikes!
superb video was most helpful thanks from cape town south africa
Thanks for taking the time to do this. It has been very helpful to me. :)
The missing information is that the timing is set correctly when the cambelt peg is set and no.1 cylinder is at TDC.
Forget the rest.
Very well done easy to understand Thank you
Very useful! I´m on this procedure & was very instructive! Even the sizes oh tools! Great add! Thanks
The tensioner seems so loose on that 8 mm tread . Doesn’t it need a nylon bush or something else in it to support it more ?
Very helpful and in depth. Thanks for the upload
Thanks a lot! Quetsion: is it not possible to leave the mount in place but only undo the two bolts that are on the front side of the engine? The ones closest to you. That would also save getting the ECU out of the way. Probably will give you a little less wiggle room around the belt tho.
do you do a video on head gaskit chage for 206 model
Thanks a lot for posting, very well presented. I'm gonna attempt to resurrect my old citroen zx (1.4) which I think is very similar.
Gonna be doing this tomorrow on a 1.4 8v, should be the same yes?
When you install the timing belt and spin the engine by hand do you do a full rotation and look the your marks go in the same spot after a full rotation/cycle?
Thanks for sharing this video, clear and calm explanation. Love it 😍
excellent! very enjoyable video...finally i know secrets of changing it :)
Wow this video was suuuuper helpful thanks dude
would this job be a lot more easier if you removed the off side wing ?
very good job!! well done!
Thanks for that mate , great video... going to do mine , in fiesta 1.4 diesel ... I think il buy the locking tool , its on e bay for € 15 .. & does few other models
Thank you for the instruction video and tips.
Good video :)
But I have a question: If there's a manual tensioner on the car, can I replace it with a automatic tensioner? (while replacing the timing belt and waterpump) or is t not possible?
Great info, I can now have a go at this myself and save a few quid.
im changing my engine on mu tu1 saxo from the head up with the head from another identical engine would setting the timing up be the same as whats shown in video or would this be more complicated
Great help. Thanks for your upload.
thanks! my waterpump hes died on my 206.need to do the same as you. Waterpump, rolls, and timingbelt
Thanks really needed the help
Brilliant. Really clear. Many thenks.
How much should you tighten the timing belt?
Thanks, very clear and informative video! I don't fancy the job though...
I've done plenty of them and they are one of the easier cars to do this work on. Good video this, thanks.
Thanks for video
Dear i want ask u if the xu5 and xu7 and xu9 same block cylinder
Ti ringrazio sei molto bravo il tuo video mi servirà molto!!🔝🔝🔝
what if belt falls before the adjustment of camshaft,is it a job for a mechanic then??
Is this the same on the 206 rc?
Please can you show us the crankshaft mark
good VIdeo! but its missing the drain plug on the thermostat base and locking the crank at the flywheel using the hole near the oil filter.
Awsome! Thanks! Great video.
I know this is an old video but I need to do the cam belt, water pump etc on a Citroen C3 which has basically the same engine and layout. Is this something an amature should attempt? JLB Credit did you manage it?
dont need to remove the engine mount, there is room, abit tight, but i was able to do it fine .
Great content thank you!

My 2000 Peugeot Boxer petrol and LPG motor now misfires, any ideas as to fix this, unable get it running so will need to tow to garage or is there an easy fix. Thanks
That sounds like your timing is now out.
Good afternoon, I am replacing a timing belt of a Peugot 206 but this is broken and I have no idea where is located the alignment points
check head is ok first that valves are not bent then carefully bring bottom pulley round to tdc if bottom pulley gets tight turn top cam shaft pulley to tdc if you cannot find marks on top pulley remove first sparkplug and where piston is turn carefully clockwise until piston is tdc use small screwdriver down port to feel . make sure the cam on one piston is closed both cam heels are facing up and level across then you have tdc ready to fit your belt.
Thanks a lot. very helpfull video.

do you do a video on head gaskit chage for 206 model??? please
Excellent Well presented, 5 star!
Thank you a lot really helpful!
I see that the engine is the same as it is on my 2005 Citroen c3 1.4
the procedure would be the same I belive
I WISHED THEY USED INTERNAL CAM TIMING CHAINS LIKE BIKE BIKE ENGINES..THAT WAY THEY WOULD LAST A LOT LOT LONGER
What are you talking about? There are many car engines that do use a timing chain instead of a timing belt :)
Great video
quiero q espliquen los puntos de arriba de leva y l o de abajo del ciguenal y la marcas dee las correa d punto gracias
So I guess you - just like me - have no idea where the original timing mark from Peugeot's crankshaft is.
this same for a 307cc 1.6 ?
I think its very hard work
Amazing..thank you
When is the best time to replace the timing belt and water pump? After how many miles approx? Hope someone can help.

ts valid for 205 TU engine?
Very good, thanks.
You have to block crankshaft using 6 mm bolt!!!
HOW BLOCK THE CRANCK?
is'nt life hard working on cars that little bit more space would help .getting your fingers in better ??? good vid thanks
yeah new cars are jam packed and motors are sideways which doesn't help.
great video....thanks
Thanks
Thx & good work !
You should have warned about the top water pump bolt is prone to shearing even with little presure !!!
Good 'how to' video.
Great video, thank you!

I found a detailed and accurate project on the Avasva website.
Could someone please tell me all the tools i would need to do the replacement shown in the video?
Very easy job, i didnt need to take off the engine mount etc as there is enough room to get in, My 1.4 8v had a different tensioner, but still easy to work out.

Who uses water a coolant ??
I wouldn't know, and I don't advise using water as coolant if that's what you are asking.
