    Very nice! This brings back memories when the F-15 A/B later the F-15C/D was deployed at the 36th TFW in Bitburg/ Germany. The F-15 was the best USAF fighter aircraft at this time (late 1970s until early 1990s). And now 40 years later the F-15 Eagle is still one of the world best fighter jets. A great achievement of the Mc Donnel Douglas engineers.

      @@possiblyadickhead6653That´s right. But for a long time the armament was identical to that of the F-4 Phantom (4x AIM 9, 4x AIM 7, 20mm Vulcan gun. But the new radar of the F-15 had advantages. The success of the F-15 is also due to the P&W F100 engines with an excellent Thrust-to-weight ratio as well as an intelligent lightweight construction of the airframe.

    I was at Al Kharj with 84-0019 when she got those kills. It was crazy to see birds come back with missiles missing when it wasn't an exercise. We painted Iraqi flags on it, but I guess now that they're an ally it's more PC to put on stars.

    It is too bad the DOD has not given the F-15C some love instead of the F-15X. The Silent Eagle was a cost-effective stop-gap for the 6th gen fighters.

    • @digitalman01010

      They have though. F-15C has gotten JHMICS and AESA radar upgrades, and is being cleared to carry more AIM-120s via new wing stations and quadruple racks. Note the CFTs as well, which used to be only on the F-15E. The Cs are getting plenty of love. =) www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/18259/its-back-to-the-future-for-u-s-f-15c-eagles-and-conformal-fuel-tanks

      @switstrike123 That is deceiving though, the parameters for vision without glasses is still very restrictive. I had to get PRK laser eye surgery in order to meet the pilot requirements.

      at least in bore sight mode

    • @timhortons232
      @timhortons232  3 года назад +1

      Time to lock is usually dependant on, range, velocity, and mode. ie. different radar search methods. It's also dependant on model of AIM-9 used, as the AIM-9(M) is now outdated and the AIM-9(X) is the current Sidewinder.

    • @possiblyadickhead6653
      @possiblyadickhead6653 3 года назад +1

      I was just wondering, because the affirmative lock sound came so late. How is dependent on velocity tho. With velocity do you mean how fast the objects moves through the field of view of the missile or the actual velocity of the target or the aircraft carrying the missile because of heating through the air friction?

    What a beautiful bird F-15C is! I cant believe they are thinking off replacing it with that piece of shit of F-35. They should just upgrade the eagle... if needed. And its not needed just yet.

    • @timhortons232
      @timhortons232  6 лет назад +3

      Take a look at 3:18 and 3:32 they've been slowly upgrading, both the F-15E and F-15C with new displays and AESA radar. Amongst other upgrades as well. Regardless, the F-35 is a great aircraft.

      I didn't think that any US F-15 could possibly have 2 kills, so I did some research and found that it's possible. There are two instances where a US pilot downed two enemy aircraft in the same encounter in an F-15. Seems like long odds that it happens to be the plane on the video, but it is possible.
