I feel a HUGE need to post here. I adopted an incredibly aggressive amazon parrot that I can not handle at all. Carlos is 22 yo and must have come from an abusive situation. I did a consult with Dave and have been target training with Carlos through the cage. Yesterday I had a huge moment with him. I was taking a dish holder out of his cage. I was able to put my hand in and unscrew the last screw WITHOUT him charging. He sat on the same perch and calmly watched the whole process. Happy happy!!! It's a small step and there might be charging again, but it was an awesome thing to see/experience!! Target training works!!
I have a blue front crested Amazon parrot and it's very aggressive my other bird is a umbrella cockatoo the parrot is a female and has never laid eggs since I've had it for 10 years but it laid eggs before
I had a very similar situation, we inherited (rescued really) an orange winged Amazon from this wealthy family who had 3 or 4 young boys who just completely abused and traumatized the poor guy. I mean these kids were the definition of entitled snobs and were bullies too so who knows what the did to the poor bird. They got him as a gift and within a year didn't want him anymore (who does that or let's their kids do that? You should teach responsibility and if you start something and take responsibility for it you need to fi is it out). But honestly it was best for him due to the abuse he was getting. Anyway he was very aggressive and would only step up maybe one out of five times. Unless he had flown down to the floor and needed to get back up, then he would always step up. But if he didn't want to step up he would go for your finger HARD and I mean like could probably take your finger off. I have tons and tons of blood drawn injuries from trying to work with him, man it hurt like hell. I wish I had seen these videos back when he was alive cause I tried for years to build a bond with him and he still would bite and be aggressive to me. I eventually kind of gave up and assumed he was forever aggressive toward males because of his abuse, but now i wonder if he might have responded better to clicker training. His name was Cromwell, I miss the little guy.
He is actually well behaived, he just needs attention like all bluefronts seem to need and require. If you don't give them alot of attention they will hold a grudge. Very smart birds...

I took in a 40 year old MEAN Amazon. I have had him for 3 years, and i just dont put my hands near him. the problem is, i can not get close enough to put him in a cage to bring him to the vet for a beak and nail trim. I put on gloves and he FREAKED. he also was kept in a very small cage and he cant open his wings. So when he falls off the cage, he goes down like a ton of bricks. I really really want to make him feel better. any thoughts?
31yrs old male rescue with serious issues from abuse. Had him 2yrs. Just rescued what I believe is a female 29yrs old, again, years of abuse! Starting at the beginning with both of them
I took in a 50yr old mean parrot. Only because he saw my 8yr old daughter and instantly came alive. He instantly started calling her over to the cage, and when she leaves the room, he is mute and won’t interact with anyone else. He puts his head down for my daughter so I had her give him a head rub. Then she filed his nails, he is sooo gentle with my daughter, but if anyone else goes near him he lunges and attacks them. So now my daughter has a best friend and the rest of us have to stay away from him. I have a video on my channel of how cute he is with my daughter
Hi I bought a Amazon blue fronted 10 days ago the pet shop did not provide me with hatch certificate nor a feet band he said he was 15weeks old, within these 10 days I taught him how to step up, step down and to give me a kiss, he even learnt to whistle from my African grey the only problem I have is his poop is yellow, under his feet too are yellow, I took him to the avain hospital in London, they said over all his condition was very good but couldn't tell me why his poop is yellow, they said he cud have liver problem but not 100% sure so I have to make another appointment and take his poop sample, it's costing a lot for the test, what do you think is it because of sunflower seed that I use to train him? Please let me know what you think thanks 🙏
Please, tell me how better to hold as a pet, one or one pair of blue fronted amazon? I have a boy (near 4 years old ) and recent i got a 8 mounths old girl for him. In the last few weeks he's become aggressive towards me. Will it be permanent or shortly? What am I supposed to do to keep him on my side? Thanks!
I used to have a Hans McCaw (I'm not even sure if I'm spelling that correctly) he never bit me or my daughter ever but my husband had a fit because he liked my husband and he would start yelling when my husband came home so unfortunately I had to find him a new home and to this day my daughter and I really regret that he was a really cool bird he talked he sang and I think my favorite was when he would stick his head in his food bowl and talk to himself just so he could hear his own voice echo. It was really hysterical and the more we laugh the more he would talk into his bowl and then he would laugh. I really regret giving him up I should have fought him more on it. I'll tell you one thing if I ever find another one I will not even hesitate to buy it. That and a Senegal parrot should I find another.
