We adopted a 40 year old Amazon two and a half years ago - he took to my wife, but HATED me. I couldn't enter the room without him trying to bite and walking by his enclosure felt like I was risking my life. This went on for over two years! But I never gave up and I would whistle with him, talk to him, and continued to earn his trust. Then just a few months ago he let me touch him - barely. Today, I'm able to have him step up and walk around the house with him on my arm. I can't even describe how satisfying it is to know that all the persistence finally paid off and we are now buddies :)
Taylor did such a great job at showing and explaining to us how she's working with Archie ♥ Might never use this information since I don't have or plan on having a bird, but still love learning about all types of animals.
gondiamond Its seams kind of pay tribute to “rag edging” or pinking edges. It’s a step towards acknowledging hand made things within factory products, unless of course its hand-made, in which case, bravo! Have you considered that when producing content it might be frustrating to see comments that aren’t so much about the content the creator is focusing on? I don’t know that’s the case here, but have heard other creators express their frustration with such comments. I’m sure that wasn’t your intention and hope pointing out it might be something to consider didn’t come across as negative in any way. Take care
hi everyone ,if anyone else needs to find out about how to train your parrot to stop bitingparrot teaching try Pycanta Parrot Tips Protocol (just google it ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my friend got cool success with it.
My old workplace (cat and dog animal shelter) asked me to foster a 35 yr old Amazon parrot with the option to adopt at the end. I live in a one bedroom apartment. Over the two weeks I fell in love with the parrot. He cuddled in my lap to sleep, demanded to be with me every moment. I literally started sobbing when I returned him to the shelter for a rescue to pick him up. I could hear him screaming for me. I knew, however, that I couldn’t provide the best long-term care for him. Thank you to people and organizations that take such good care of these beautiful animals ❤️
The thing I love most in this video is how you (Taylor) are clearly enjoying this. You are SOOO happy, and so eager to share your joy. Thank you for sharing it, and keep having fun! :D
My mother has a Blue fronted amazon as well! Was super excited to see you and Archie and you both did great! My mother's bird, Mack, is extremely noisy and while happy noises and singing are not a problem, it sounds more like yelling and screaming for someone to come in with him as he usually gets better when someone goes and talks to him. was wondering if there was anything I could do to advise my mom on what to do, Thanks
Same here, people think my Amazon is a wild child, even had the police arrive at my door once, because he was screaming so while I was reporting a car being stolen on my street. Cops laughed. Thieves got the car.
A+++++++ On Presentation. You explained everything so well Taylor ...You are confident, you have eye contact and you smile too:)))Keep up the great work!
Man, her excitment about her work was palpable. So cool! Also, lol at Archie following her hands and turning his head upside down. "Gimme the treat already!" XD
It's great to meet you, Taylor! From this video it is crystal clear that AWM has found the perfect person to be a partner in caring for their family! Just wonderfulto look forward to the exciting future of these amazing people doing so much for so many.
Great work, Taylor? How much you love your job shines through & that's awesome. Archie seems to be enjoying the enrichment training you're doing w/ him.
Well done Taylor and Archie! I love to see humans and animals learning together and building a mutual trust. Both you and Archie have had your worlds enriched, and you have an amazing friendship to explore. Excellent presentation, and excellent use of training skills and positive reinforcement. I'm so excited to see where Archie and you are able to go!
My god I love Animal Wonders - Ethical, animal care centered wholesome content with an educational message. It's the definition of a video that will make anyone's day! Also, Taylor, you are so professional and wonderful with Archie!
Cool. I wish this video was around 25 yrs ago when I dumped a guy because his parrot kept attacking me - even when I was across the room and not looking at him.
I have a rescued Amazon blue front for 40 yrs. I can't get him to talk, he was originally cared for by my mom who has passed and i have him. Would love to know why he won't talk. Great job taylor,v your so 🥰 nfidant and a real natural animal trainer.
My brother has a parrot and I love her! She doesn't allow much interaction, but I like to watch her and talk to her when she is in her cage. I wonder if one day I will be able to handle her! I loved tjhis video, Taylor!
great job, Taylor! 👏👍 You aren’t just good at training parrots, but also at teaching human beings! Very nice explanation! I love clicker training, works great with all sorts of animals! I especially love how it easily gets the animals to also offer us behaviors they think we would like, so it makes them take initiative and show us, which I think makes them show their personality much more. Makes the whole thing a lot more fun... 😊
That was nice. The Admiral and I watched together. She's a 30+ yr old blue front that we've had since she was a few months old. We look forward to seeing future videos of you two.
This really helps me, because soon i will be taking my friends amazon for a bit to train him, they'd do it themselves but they are scared of him as he bites them, plus, his wings aren't clipped but he cant fly, im going to teach him that too as im working with Tiki on how to
I was working at a petco back in 07 with great co-workers who cared. We had an enclosed bird room in the middle of the store and got a sun conure transfered from another store. It had bonded strongly with a worker there and couldn't be sold. Since I had purchased a GCC earlier I decided to work with it and use my new knowledge of birds. It was a fiesty bird and only wanted to bite so I would put my hand close then pull back at signs of aggression then turn it into a fun game to spark curiosity. What was at first pure aggression turned into a positive interaction. It wasn't long before my daily interaction turned into stepping up then sitting on my shoulder while I cleaned the room and changed food and water. Then I thought about the over-bond issue and gradually stepped away my duties. It wasn't long before I could walk down the isle's of the store and look into the bird room and see the Sun stepping up and flying from the cart handle to another employee. It didn't take long before this conure found a new home.
This helped me much I've just got an orange winged amazon, and we got him from a abusive home. And 2nd day he way already letting me stroke him. I got stuck when I needed to teach how to teach him to step up.
Working with parrots I can tell you it really depends some bird it can a couple of days months and some even take years but the ones that take the longest are the most rewarding it depends on the bird and where it came from
Archie's behaviors in the end of the video are so cute! Is his turning his head upside down just a way to try and get Taylor's attention to ask for treats or something else?
Hello Taylor, and congratulations on the job 😁 It's good to see and hear another person on this channel, not that Jessi is not doing an awesome job, but she looks tired from time to time... 🤔 I'm hyped for what's to come and thank you all at animal wonders for such an amazing show 😍
Currently building a trust bond with two chinchillas that I rescued last weekend. It's super difficult because they're so soft and cute I just wanna snuggle them to death.
Hi Taylor, Glad to see you on Animal Wonders. I really liked your idea of placing Archie on the ground in order to rescue him onto your hand. I thought that was great! How long have you been working with birds? I am still young and I have had a passion for working with animals since a very young age. I also love birds but for right now I have a rabbit, like Hazel, that I have clicker trained, thanks to Jesse's videos. It is great that Jesse has invited you to bond with Archie. I admire her a lot. Look forward to seeing more videos with you and Archie on Animal Wonders.
I have an umbrella cockatoo that I was suppose to babysit but ended up stuck with him. He came from a not so good home. I have been trying to understand him more. But I don’t live alone and they don’t enjoy him very much as he is very loud all the time. I am not home very much during the week unfortunately so I work with him when I can. I haven’t let him over a month since he has bit me as well as guests. I still think he trusts he most. But I wrote all that to write this video helps me a bit. Thanks. I’m still trying to decide what is best for him.
I have the same type of bird! But yellow fronted My brother got him today but my brother wants to sell him and I thought him to make noises I want to teach it to speak and if I say hello to it his eyes pin and I think it means he is happy or excited and he dose not bite and he lets you pet his head and when I sit on the floor near him he will sometimes put his head in the bars for me to pet him and he makes noises when I go somewhere where he can’t see me

Your debut went great, very confident and engaging. Good job 👍
Only criticism... is that shirt inside out or wtf?

That upside-down head tilt at "stop and listen"! Archie is demonstrating the appropriate way to listen.

Archie once again ❤❤❤. Miss my Rio a lot whenever I see Archie.
Can I ask how long this took? Just on average how long does it take to develop a relationship with a bird? Days weeks months years?
Working with parrots I can tell you it really depends some bird it can a couple of days months and some even take years but the ones that take the longest are the most rewarding it depends on the bird and where it came from
About 7 months with a few training sessions every week :)

I kinda want a bird like this, but I travel for work 😞 I just dont have the time the bird deserves. Maybe when I retire.
And have someone else inherit it? Psittasines have loooonnnng lifespans senior. Just understand that. Good luck tho
Archie's behaviors in the end of the video are so cute! Is his turning his head upside down just a way to try and get Taylor's attention to ask for treats or something else?
