A bit late to the party!
I am a guy learning crochet to cope up with my anxiety and depression and all other videos on RUclips are confusing .. thank you so much for helping me to learn crocheting. Your videos are simple & precise ✨ Sending love and blessings to you from india🇮🇳 May you continue to grow ❣️
Fabulous coxo
How’s it going?
Marly do you teach beginners for making slippers I would really love to learn how to make different sizes
She’s the nikkitutorials if crochet
Oh my Goodness. That is HUGE because I LOVE HER!!! Thank you.
Thank you for the tutorial
Yassss
Finally time to learn how to crochet since we’re in quarantine😌
That's why I'm here. Gonna make everyone a blanket
Kingcyn yep. That’s why I’m here too 😂
Kingcyn sameee
Kingcyn same
Same lol, i bought all the supplies on amazon
I love how you talk to us like you’re talking to a 5 year old but without being condescending. Hahaha I’m being absolutely serious because you are one of the first....crochet tutors? crochet professor?...crochet professors I’ve come across in years that doesn’t either make me feel like an idiot, or working in such a way that I have to rewind the dang video 400 times. Or BOTH. 😶
Plus I get so excited when you congratulate me. Even if it’s for doing nothing more than exactly what I’m supposed to be doing 😂 Gold Star! ⭐️🤍
Gracias Professor!! 🧶😇
You made my day!
I agree completely. I love crocheting and I'm the newest of beginners, I don't learn very easily so this was perfect for me! Super Gold star! ⭐
You are absolutely professional without making me feel inadequate. I must compliment you for the manner in which you teach. Thank you for going slow with us beginners.
I've been looking for a basic tutorial on crocheting and stumbled on your video. I'm difinitly trying this soon.
Thank you. Greetings from South Africa.
You’re the only person I’ve found so far that goes step by step like this thank you so so so much 😭
You're so welcome!
@@MarlyBird I agree
I agree. So many other videos say beginner and they go so fast.
Dear Marly,
I have been trying for hours and hours to start a simple crochet blanket for my sister's new baby (ok, her new kitten, but close enough) and was about to give up frustration when I came across your video. Yours is the only video I've come across that carefully explains which exact gap the double stitch is being worked into. Thanks to your video, I am now four rows into a very cute blanket! Thank you!
Alot of tutorials tell you where next st goes .
How man skeins for a baby blanket?
Thank you for your wonderful tutorial. I had a “bucket list” item of teaching myself to crochet. This pattern is wonderful and I now have a beautiful blanket. I’m RUclips self taught and I’m thrilled to be able to cross it off my list.
Yo you copy other comment
Oh and also... I absolutely love your “congratulations you just did your first single/double crochet.” Your voice when you say it and the way your eyes smile actually made me excited for myself and so proud because the way you say it is so genuine it’s almost like you were actually here congratulating me haha.. thanks so much for your helpful video! I’m about to go check out some more now ☺️ I’m officially addicted to crocheting!
I just started crocheting a month ago and I’m about to finish my first blanket for my grandma! This video was so helpful!
Great!!!
Marly Bird I just finished my second blanket. I always come back to your video! ♥️♥️
Hi!how many of the 100g of yarn have you used?
I picked up crochet literally two days ago, never have I done it before and I didn’t know how to make a chain or anything. I came to this video immediately because I wanted to dive right in and go from not knowing how to do anything crochet to making a blanket. And i started it and finished it in two days with your video!
I just made this but unfortunately didn't have enough yarn :( but I made a nice bathmat haha!!
Hi Ik you made this a few years ago and I’ve tried and tried to Corchet but it never works your tutorial didn’t help and idk if I’m doing anything wrong but I do what you do and I can’t make 1 knot
I made an awesome throw from this video! It’s so easyyyyyyy. You don’t need too much concentration once you get into the rhythm of things! Marty does an amazing job at explaining crochet for beginners!
Watching the video made me so happy 🥺 it's currently 2 am and I've been trying for the last 4 hours how to do it properly. This video was really helpful and she would always congratulate us, it was as she was actually happy for me :( thank you for this❤
You’re very welcome!!
I'm in the middle of making this blanket as a gift for my girlfriend! I'm using a normal thin peach yarn to have it more detailed and it's a nice project to work on when I come home from work to relax
I've been wanting to crochet a blanket for a while now and this was very helpful. Thank you!
My new fav channel. Thank you, Marly. Banged this off in less than 5 days as my 1st EVER crochet project! Needless to say, I'm HOOKED! You've got yourself a new subscriber and I cannot wait to see more of your videos 🧶 👍👍
You do a really great job of making it clear as well as keeping it interesting. Thanks!
thank you.
Yes she really do. This is the best one I have found to follow so far.
Thank you so much.
"Marley bird you make my day as a bigger I learned 1 2 3 lesson
Very nice tuto
I did 183...
Thank you
I never thought that 2020 would be the year I learnt to crochet. But I'm so glad I did. Really enjoying it.

i dont understand why this video has ANY dislikes like this is the *most* helpful video for crocheting. i had looked for hours to learn how to crochet and just about gave up until i found this video and now I'm making tons of crochet projects.
EDIT: most videos just assume you know what you are doing and do it so fast and don't explain it this one is so helpful for begginers
Thank you so much!
When she goes to double it's way to fast. No matter how many times I pause and try to figure out where I am I end up pulling it all out and get lost at the same point
This was so incredibly helpful. Very clear, and easy to understand.
Hey there! I have a crochet group if you would like to join. Feel free to post pictures of your work :) facebook.com/Blissfully-in-love-with-crochet-patterns-and-CALS-614702069031770/
I restarted crocheting about a month ago after a 20 year hiatus so I'm really having to relearn everything. Your videos make it so easy to follow and get the stitches right. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much. My Mom passed away last year, and I asked her if I could finish her blanket. I have no clue as to what the pattern is called. I just know I had to start somewhere and learn how to crochet. I've been loom knitting for two years now. However, her blanket was not created on a loom. So thank you again for your awesome video and a warm tone teaching voice.
I love your videos. And this beginner blanket is great. I love it. I was so glad to see you explain correctly weaving in the end tails. Most tutorials don't instruct to send the needle through the yarn fibers, but rather to go through yarn openings. Anyway I think you are a wonderful instructor, so clear -- with simple explanations. 😊
Wow! Thank you got such a great tutorial. I just run across your channel, and so glad I did. I have wanted to learn how to crochet for a while now. I'm going to buy yarn and a needle tomorrow and rewatch your video. I can do this. You are a great instructor, thank you.
this is my first crochet project and you made it so easy to learn! so excited :)
Beginner here. Just finished this throw. It turned out so nice! The instructions were so easy to follow along with, and I loved Marly's personality!! Thanks so much. from NC
Rhonda Reis Yay! Good for you! I’m getting ready to try this! This will be my first project! 😊
Nice! How long did it take you?
is there a way to add on extra width to the blanket once you've already started?
A really thick boarder, maybe? You usually add the border once the blanket is totally finished. But I haven't watched the video yet, so I'm not 100% sure what she's going to show us.
I was really struggling with crocheting until I watched this video. The way you explain it and show each stitch really helped it click for me and now I'm fifteen rows into this pattern when I could barely single crochet yesterday! Thank you so much for this video and I can't wait to watch and learn more from you!
i've knitted 4 blankets and given them all away pls send help 👁👄👁
Thank you for this video, some are so hard to follow this was easy to follow. Thanks for helping the learning 🙏
I don’t have the chunky yarn is that ok
And I only have a 5.5m hook
Thank you for this video! First one I found where I understand each step. I completed my first crocheted blanket, and I’m gifting it to my sister for Christmas!🥰
Thank you. That has made it so easy!
You're welcome!
OMGOODNESS! I am soo happy and excited that I found this video tutorial! I have never had such clear instructions from a crochet video before. I've tried many only to be discouraged because I never knew how to create my gauge. Marly explained it! I had absolutely no idea that the wider part of the crochet hook was used to keep the stitches the same size! 🤷 WHO KNEW! lol Now I am soo excited to crochet again! Something that simple has made a world of difference for me! Thank you!💓
Hi, your video really helped me how to crochet but when i crochet my project gets really tight. Do you have any tips for that?❤️🤣
I had the same problem with my crochet being too tight. That's 'tension'. There are several videos on RUclips about tension. The ones by Jayda are good plus there's one by Mae(?) that teaches tension tricks and also shows you how to crochet a tension guide for your finger.
Thank you so much love the stitch also where did you buy your needle 🪡 i like the style 😊❤
Hi, can anyone tell me how many balls of wool /yarn we need to make this blanket?
I would also add how to slow down the video....this was how I learned!
This is the best beginner's video I've watched where my rows look like I'm crocheting! The first two rows were never ending but by row three...I was into a rhythm. Thank you for this wonderful tutorial.
Thank you!!
omg word
Ive been trying to learn this past week with other you tube vids and you have saved me. I didnt want to give up and your instruction is the best thank you
Marly, I thoroughly enjoyed this. Not only did you do an amazing job of going slow, being very detailed, but the praise you gave, and the video where we can see your face makes this feel much much more personal. I haven’t been having much luck from other videos. But I actually completed a full throw blanket. A million thanks!!!
My grandmother taught me to crochet/sew during summer visits when I was 7 yrs old. I must have been a very patient little girl & her a patient teacher. she made beautiful blankets for the church. Those memories with her have stayed with me all my life.
Awesome tutorial!!!
Rows one to three did my head in! Lol just rolled after that. ( first timer here) thank you so much. ❤️
Thanks easy to follow, I made my first throw blanket! Thanks
Love this, just learned anew pattern!!! Ty
Thanks for a perfect tutorial it has given me full confidence to start this throw for my children who have recently migrated to Toronto.
Though I have one query.......can I use 2/3 colours instead of 1?
thank you for the video i could barely chain before but now i am done with the blanket thank you god bless
Thank you so much out of all the other channels I did my first Crochet 🧶 because of you 😊👍🏽👏🏽 I wanted to give up so easy but thank God I will not give up. Thank you 🌻
Just finished this one. My first time since I was a kid crocheting. The first part (where I started the blanket) is smaller than the rest. The rest of perfect. I made the beginning stitches to tight and loosened the rest over time. Oh well. Still came out fine for my nephew.
Thank you for the tutorial and my next one will be perfect.

THANK-YOU SO SO MUCH…. I’m a few rows into it but you’re helping me do my first blanket! 😭
This video has serious helped me so much I want to cry! (We can also blame that on postpartum emotions lol) I'm 28 and haven't crocheted for at least 10 years. I've been trying to make a blanket for weeks so I can pass on my forgotten knowledge to my 6 year old daughter. Thank you so much for this!
You’re very welcome
This is going to be a fun project for a newbie like me! I do have one question. I’m buying yarn through Walmart pickup, so my options are somewhat limited. I don’t see the chunky version of the yarn. Would a regular red heart yarn work okay?
Would this be good with bulky yarn? I'm starting my first project and bought ultra soft bulky yarn.
Just found you, thank God. I'm a beginner trying to find easy to watch and understand the process. Thank you for showing slowly and explaining. I'm going to make this blanket. Thanks again for your tutorial. Excited to crochet now.
Thank Marly! This video was so helpful. Look forward to trying this blanket.
Love your hooks.
That is the best advice I have ever gotten to keep my chain size consistent!!! Thank you!;!
Happy to help!
Perfect tutorial for a beginner’s project. Thank you!
Thank you!
I bought velvet yarn. I’ve been practicing on acrylic yarn for 2-3 days from the dollar tree. I think I got the technique down, excited to start this!
I’m sorry, I can’t find the link to the free pattern, not can I find it on the red heart website!
Found it!! 😊
Can I chain 100?
This is an excellent video. Everything is perfectly explained and while it does repeat things you already know if you've been crocheting for at least a few weeks, the commentary doesn't get annoying. Also, this has the best explanation for weaving in ends I've seen. I haven't been able to find a good way to weave the ends in!
You teach very good thank you
after starting a project and forgetting which stitch I was doing I re-started a new blanket with this pattern and absolutely love it ! It's super simple, works up really quickly, and looks so beautiful ! I'll definitely be doing my next baby blanket with this same pattern :) ~ self taught (from RUclips) crochet'er ~
I have been crocheting for a while and you are great!!!! No one has ever said not to make the chain too tight until my mom had told me and you covered that. You are awesome!!!! I wish your video was the first that I had ever watched. You do the best teaching that I've ever seen. I've seen people who tutor a lot of patterns and they are hard to keep up with and impossible for a beginner. I have never seen anyone cover everything that you have. You are so spectacular!!! Thank you so much!!! After crocheting for over a year, I learned so much more from you
Hi do you do the same stitch you did on row 3 and 4 for all the 89 rows
Ahhh you don't know how happy I am that I finally found a video that actually thought me how to do it
How many skeins should we buy?
I saw an afghan made with this stitch several years ago and have searched high and low for how to actually make this!! I am so excited to FINALLY have found instructions on how to make it!! Thank you so very much!!!
If I wanted to make a blanket so need to increase the base stitches from 83, what number must I increase by eg adding extra 2 base stitches till my desire width? Hope this makes sense
you can increase by as many as you wish, this pattern doesn't have a stitch multiple.
Ok cool, this is my first attempt at crochet making this throw..l love your videos and you are so watchable x
Just what I was looking for. 1 question : 1 have yarn that is 4 weight instead of 5 like the recommended yarn. Do I size my crochet hook down to get the same effect?
You are an amazing teacher!
Hey there! I have a crochet group if you would like to join. Feel free to post pictures of your work :) facebook.com/Blissfully-in-love-with-crochet-patterns-and-CALS-614702069031770/
Finished the throw was super easy video after years of trying unsuccefully to crochet I cracked it and totally love it thanks Marly 😀
You’re welcome 😊
Way too fast for a beginner...need to slowdown your pace😢
Take your time. You will get it :)
What number ply is this wool? We dont have it in Australia
Thick 4 ply
Can I half the number of beginning stitches? I wanted to make a blanket for my kitten so it doesnt need to be full size. Could u recommend how many stitches to do as I dont wanna mess with the pattern I just want it smaller... 💕💕 (bought supplies arriving today first time crocheting in a long time since I was a kid)
Yes, you could do that.
Oh no! The beginning number of stitches is 83.. how do I half that 😂
Is it ok to do maybe 43?
Idk.. will it work as long as its an odd number? Or does it not matter!
I dont wanna mess this up 😩 my hooks and thread arrives in an hr!!!
So.. I can do any number of stitches as long as its odd?
I’ve been at this crochet thing for DAAYYYYSSS.... and I haven’t been able to figure it out for anything so I gave up, but I’m sitting here nursing my 3 month old baby boy and this video was recommended to me and I’m so glad it was, you explained so clearly and so patiently That I’ve gained confidence to pick up the yarn and hook and try again. Thank you!!! Btw I’ve saved this video to my favorites and I’ve subscribed!
Congratulations on your little bundle of joy! I'm also a beginner in crocheting & being a visual learner its difficult to find "tutorials" that actually Explain & Show each step:
Like this one!
Have fun
This yarn is very hard to find... any suggestions on a substitute?
Can I just say, this is the BEST video for a newbie! I've watched quite a few videos already and wasted a lot of practice yarn on complicated patterns for beginners... I wish I had started with this one! My practice run came out so good, I turned it into a scarf for my daughter! Now I will make throw blankets with confidence for her and my new niece coming in January!
I'm 5 skeins into this throw and can't find any more of this yarn. Booo hoooo!!!!
I hate when that happens. Have you tried online?
this would make a great washcloth also
Thanks to this tutorial I’m going to attempt a blanket but I’m curious does anyone know exactly how much yarn is needed I have 6 big rolls I’m curious if they will be enough
Check out the pattern. It will tell you how much yarn you need
Very helpful, easy to follow tutorial! Thank you.
just ripped up 3 of my first blankets because i kept messing up and i have gone 10 rows with this tutorial and not messed up at all and it looks perfect so THANK YOU!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Great job!
Me: meh I’m to lazy to find my thing I wil just use a pen
Hi Mary! Can't wait to crochet this blanket. Thank you for tutorial. Happy Easter!
Same to you!
I’ve been following along to do my first ever blanket but my left index finger is cramping up, I’m having trouble with this. Am I holding the yarn wrong, how do you suggest holding the yarn to prevent cramping! :(
The cramping could be cause from holding the yarn too tightly. You could try a different hold like weaving the yarn through all your fingers for tension. As a new crocheter it’s best to play around with all types of holds to find the one that works for you best.
Thank you for this video! currently trying to figure out how to make a new, cozy blanket for my little sister (I’m 18 and she’s 16). I promised I’d make her one once I got good enough at crocheting but now she’s sick and I haven’t had much time to practice crocheting because of my college work. She recently got covid and has pneumonia on top of that, so I wanna try and cheer her up. I have of course been avoiding in person contact to protect myself and my partner and everything, but I want to give her something because I obviously love my sister. I practiced this with an old ball of yarn I have from my mom, and it seems fairly simple. I’ve practically mastered making coasters with double crochets too so I figured a blanket with double crochets should be nothing :D Now all I have to do is pick up some yarn in some of her favorite colors.
That is so cool😃 Your sister is very blessed.
This is really helpful. I've been been struggling with crochet for a while now and I'm able to find a way about it watching this video. Thanks so much ma'am.
What a wonderful tutorial! Your instructions are so clear and you are so friendly! LOL I can't wait to give this a shot. Having made a billion scarves for Christmas presents this year, crocheting a throw is my New Year's resolution for 2021. Here we go! Thanks so much for the wonderful tutorial.
Just finished! This was my first throw and I love it! It was truly easy, which makes me that much more confident to move forward with more patterns. Thanks again! (I'd post a pic, but I don't seem able to do so.)
Thanks for the tutorial, this was my first experience crocheting. Do you need to do the border to finish it off? I watched the video and paused it as I was going along, should have watched the whole thing first. I used three colours and made a pattern. I don't know if I want a solid colour going all the way along, are there any other options to complete it?
congrats Christine! You don't need to add a border on this blanket. if you want to add a border then you can simply crochet around the blanket with double crochets or single crochets as evenly as possible.
Oh my goodness I did the same thing, paused the video did a whole blanket, went back and realized there was more I missed 🤦🏻♀️
Great video! But did anyone else follow instructions exactly but still mess up somehow? ugh!!
So many times. I'm an experienced knitter and will just absolutely fudge things occasionally. Part of the process of fibre arts
Thank you for this video. I have watched a lot of them and you are so much easier to follow.
This video is great. I finally understand what I was doing wrong with the single crochet. Was anyone else repeating her instructions to themselves? “Yarn over the hook, pull up a loop, yarn over...
:)
Thank you so much for this video
Hi! So I’m confused about doing the gauge... could you help me with that. I get the 15 dc part. But then the 13 rows... is that 13 rows of simply dcs? Or do you just start doing the pattern from the beginning until you have 13 rows?
Thanks!
P.S. Your tutorial is amazing. I actually feel able to learn how to crochet for real this time. Such a great teacher! ❤️
