And to think that Emma Thompson wound up marrying Willoughby! Go Emma!
Geez dude yeah.. he fine
No, she married the actor who played Willoughby.
@@l.a.3479recisely! People are often so immersed by the charecter actors portray that they associate the actors with the charecters themself,in real life actors aren't the charecters they play, they have a personal life of their own,it's rude to talk about an actor's real life events by calling them by the charecter they played once
Next stop: Willoughby
Also from what I understand they are still married and have a daughter.
Margaret: Please don't say anything important. I know the feeling, don't want to miss the details 😄
it was soo cute!
Margaret is so cute! I honestly felt sorry for her because all she really wanted was to be a part of everyone's conversation since she had nobody else to really talk to, nobody her own age to play with.
She starts yelling in the hallway "wait for me!" 😂
The sad thing is that Willoughby was not your typical villain. He genuinely loved Marianne, but after being left no fortune due to the Beth incident he grew scared and decided to marry for money instead of love. It was either out of greed and laziness, or out of fear that he could not support himself, Marianne and possible children in the future. I like to think it's the latter.
You also must remember what he did to Colonel Brandon's daughter
@@ThatReadingGuy28 Beth is Brandon's daughter. I mentioned the incident
@@crimsonkatharine6857 I forgot that was her name my bad
@@ThatReadingGuy28 Ward. Not daughter.
I agree
Ah poetry, romance, manners, respect, minds and hearts meetings first and foremost, a lost art!
false pleasantries
i’m afraid poetry will kill a love stone dead. As the movie implies by this relationship failing.
No it isn't, there are still people falling in love in a romantic way. Quit your whining!
Haha everyone calm down he took Liberty of feeling the bone!!!
Lolz
And there's not a bolder rider in all of England!
Ha! Did Marianne actually expect Sir John to regale her with tales of Mr Willoughby's passions and penchants?!
His reply was perfect from a male perspective, maybe not from a female perspective though! 😊
He was being evasive because he knew all about Willoughby's reputation.
If he really knew, wouldn't he want to warn them, maybe tell the mom what unmarried girls shouldn't be privy to? To protect Marianne from the sorry fate of Willoughby's prior conquests?
I hadn't thought of that. Bit like a job reference, it's what's left out that's often most telling.@@jihangamal5823
When he later says "I know you and your wicked ways!" as a joke, it's actually a Freudian Slip on his part. Which makes you think of to which extent he's self-conscious of the fact that if the people around him knew his previous actions with Beth, they'd leave him, including Marianne.
“Please don’t say anything important” That was me when I was younger. As the youngest of 3 girls I identified so much with Margaret.
He has my permission to feel my entire body
Inappropriate
@@l.a.3479 But true!
Did Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) direct this film? This is one of the best book-to-screen adaptation i've ever known!
Yup. He thought Emma Thompson and the others were crazy because he knew nothing of Jane Austen or 1800s England until he read the script and saw it was similar to how he did his movies, like the Wedding Banquet, and thus, he jumped in, despite some cultural barriers he faced since he's Taiwanese.
This is my favorite of all the Jane Austen film adaptations.
He also direct Brokeback Mountain.
Yes, and Emma Thompson wrote the screenplay and won an Oscar for it.
@@lemorab1 Nope
And Willoughby spent his whole life regretting his choice and paying dearly for it. Marianne carried a wounded heart but never forgot their young love and passion. Many, many years later, after each of their spouses had passed, Marianne and (a changed) Willoughby connected on fb and they were reunited! 😉
😂😂😂😂
No she didn't. Marianne fell deeply in love with the Colonel and never looked back! Any woman would have.
My favorite movie of all time. I watch this over and over and over again.
@@l.a.3479 perhaps you should leave people to themselves and not judge somebody for watching their favourite movie
I have no desire of leaving a water mark!
I've always tried the right moment to say this to someone. Alas, I live in a place that hardly sees rain anymore
Greg Wise was succcchhh a babe in this movie. I always love that Eleanor ended up with Willoughby in real life .
No. Emma ended up with Greg.
@@l.a.3479 it's a joke/way of wording something. Eleanor in real life married Willoughby in real life
@@lauraslade5308 I'm aware.
This is the same film Emma Thompson first met her now husband Greg Wise
@@l.a.3479 not everybody does
"Is he human?" Elinor throwing shade 😎
This movie is amazing. One of my favorites. Cannot stand this scene
Huh? Why?
Which one for your all-time favourite period drama : Sense & Sensibility (1995) or Howard's End (1992)
Sense and Sensibility, no contest.
You've severely limited the choices.
Both starred Emma Thompson
I love Sense and Sensibility, but I love Howards End too. Helena Bonham Carter is Emma Thompson’s sister in Howards End.
What is the name of the book that Willoughby and Maryanne both like
Williams Shakespeare's Sonnets; a large number of poems on various themes, especially romance and gallantly love. 154 in total. Published in 1609.
irl Elinor end up with Willoughby. ironic
Sir John is so useless as a source of information, it's very funny. There's so many talented actors in the smaller roles in this film. Hugh Laurie, Imelda Staunton, Jessica Walter, James Fleet,
I love how boy crazy 🤪they are... I'd be too
It Went Air On NBC
