When you mentioned the rule of thirds making you appear taller, I thought of high school marching band uniforms. Looking back, the jackets were cropped for the exact purpose of making us look taller and more uniform.
I felt weird buying a binder since I'm not transmasc, just genderqueer, but the GIDDINESS I felt with how a binder makes a graphic tee look on me cannot be overstated. I about cried. I love my binder.
as a transmasc enby this is just the best! I have been looking to get a more masc wardrobe and this has really helped, thank you so much. I'm so glad I found your videos.
@@Kelly-di3qs exactly! I cant Seem to find the right silhuet Thats also interesting when it comes to shorts-outfits. And Im s bit confused about the thirds-rule there, cause so much lenght is gone😆 And i hate How the legs peaking out of the shorts ruin the silhuet hahah
Idk how much it'll help you, but I wear shorts ALL THE TIME. Specifically cargo shorts that usuallt rest below mid thigh. I usually pair it with a belt and sit it lower, closer to my hips, and also a button up floral shirt. You can tuck or not, but I like how it lands on me. Again, I'm not sure how well it'll help but thats my experience.
it work's the same, I've been doing a lot of experimentation recently, what I've found is try for shorts that end no higher than 1/2'' above the knee, that are quite loose and boxy looking, cargo shorts are good, then the outfit is divided into three thirds (lower leg, shorts, shirt) instead of one third (shirt) and two thirds (pants), for me personally my thighs are curvy so if my shorts are too short it starts to look very fem
thank you so much! i really like switching from femme to more masculine looks and i recently have been trying to get some clothes and this helped me soo much!!
I recently had to go shopping for an outfit for a wedding, and we also went to Goodwill for it. So it was kinda difficult size wise, and while I don't have the biggest boobs, it helped so fucking much to get a vest that went ovrr my shirt. And idk if that even helps anyone but I'm really happy about it and im keeping the outfit for a long while yet
Thx so much for this video :) I've known I am non-binary for nearly 10 years, and for my whole life I've had dysphoria, but while some people would have gone out and changed how they look, I guess I've just never thought about it, I've never liked how I look no matter what I do so I've just not cared and hidden from mirrors/cameras, it's only recently when I've started to workout for health benefit that I had this sudden realization that I actually like the way some of my body look's so I've finally started to try to dress how I want to look, your explanation of proportion helps a lot, now I know why there's this one button shirt I love and many I don't love so much, the one I love is 4'' shorter, so now I'm getting the sewing machine out to spend the next evening shortening all the rest of my shirts LOL
i swear it's always the little things. I have never felt uncomfortable with my chest or really ever thought about it UNTILL i bought my first sports bra. I was sitting there jaw on the floor and everything.
I've been following you for a while and you explaining the proportions of torso to legs and cutting your shirts and T's changed my life fr. I do it ALL the time now and my outfits look fire. My and my gf are short and so we both slay now
watched it to the end sometimes while cleaning up and sometimes just chillin🙆🏼 i really appreciate how much effort you put into everything, and also for including the bra and binder part! it’s really important to me since having a lot of dysphoria with my chest LOVE YOU CLAIREEEE have a good one!! ~cadwi ;D
Personally I hate that everyone is only recommending high waisted pants and cropped shirts to achieve a "rule of thirds" look so then everyone starts only wearing the same proportions. Plus as someone who likes low waisted pants/shorts (I hate the look/sensory feel of them over my bigger stomach), it doesn't work for me. I think the 1/2 shirt &1/2 pants outfit also looks beautiful (plus if you add in your head, it's about 2/3 on top and 1/3 on bottom) and you can also do a longer shirt on top to create a 1/3 bottom and 2/3 top look (maybe this doesn't work if you're short but for 5'4 or above, I think it looks good). I also think when people go too high rise, even with the long legs, you still look short because your torso looks short. Also for half and half (or other) looks, you can add a jacket (etc) that goes down 2/3 on top so that you still have that rule of thirds working for you. Finally, there are no rules in fashion and you don't have to fit the perfect proportions all the time - have fun with your looks and play around!
Yeah, I’m definitely saving this for the next time I go shopping. Thank you Claire, this was very helpful! Recently I’ve been getting more into fashion and upgrading my style as a masc presenting person and I loved this!(Btw this was very funny..😂14:48)
I would personally like if we could buy more masculine items in women's sections. I have a shirt from the men's section I like but it doesn't necessarily fit well 😅
Try shopping in the higher ages of the boy section in stores! Not only do they tend to have sizes that fit shorter women better, they're usually cheaper.
U made a reel about how to tuck in sweatshirt or sweaters but when i tried 😅 this was not giving that look and not comfortable also when i raise my hand it comes out don't know how to tuck in a way u do
nonbinary royalty works too! love this claire - your ig reels have helped me experiment with my fits and im sure so many are gonna find this SO valuable :)
Big sister energy

i recommend bras from girlfriend collective! they’re a bit pricey but super flattening and they last a long time
Where was this when I was in high school 😭 thank you for making this video
THANK YOU for this. Now PLEASE a tutorial on how you style your hair and what products you use, it looks so good ❤
You are 💯 correct! I have been masc/ butch dressing for past 30 yrs..and yes..straight leg is key
Loved it, even though I'm amab enby but If I do the opposite it still might work xD
you can get a tailor to take in or put elastic in your pants if the waist is too big...
Thank you, I'm a femme who loves fashion theory but struggle to find representative resources to share with the butches and mascs in my life
hiii thanks for this vid,, could u make a video trying on sports bras like for masc people like ranking them or like the best ones

Tailoring is your key factor

This is so helpful. I really appreciate it, Claire.
rule of thirds was actually educational tip wow. i remember learning that in an art class but never saw it applied to anything else
hell yea!!!
I hadn’t heard of adjustable buttons before but that is such a good idea???? I just ordered some, thanks for the suggestion!
