I just got the subwoofer and I'm currently breaking it in and I have to say this will be my forever sub. I have the tennis Mark II and while that's a fantastic sub this sub takes it to another level. I find the reference setting to be the best setting all around.
They are TIGHT as a drum! Very addictive and articulate sound. I have both the Speedwoofer and 15 inch HSU's ...The Speeds are for music and HSU's are for movies and rattling the foundation off my house and knocking down pictures off the walls. lol
Absolutely a fantastic review of the RSL 12S! Thank you so much. I am currently in the market to replace my KEF Cube which had died, and this may fit the bill. I appreciate your objective review. have a great day!
Everything you said is true! I have both Speedwoofers and HSU 15 subs. The Speeds handle the music and are TIGHT as a drum! They are very very punchy and very VERY articulate with music and no slouch with movies. As for movies I run two HSU VTF 15 MK 2's...as they are hands down the best bang for your buck subs for under $1000 (when on sale). In our circle of geeks these are known as SVS killers. They have the MOST tactile feel than much bigger subs that also cost much more that we have tried out. Dr HSU's subs move you and your couch at a fraction of the cost! Give them a try! ;-) ..
I'm currently trying to decide between these two subs as they're both at ~$800 mark. Can you provide any extra details to help me make my decision?? Thanks! Seems like both the RSL 12s and the Hsu VTF2 Mk5 are amazing options at the price point so it's hard to decide.
Great review - very straightforward and concise. I ordered my 12S and is in transit. I have the 10kii and will pair them. I had a Cambridge Soundworks P1000 hooked up to my HT and unfortunately the control module recently crapped out so I went with the 12S since I run two subs nd the other one being the RSL already. Man the 10kii really rock and I can only imagine how this 12S will be in addition- great review and thanks!
I can testify to the owner-friendly atmosphere emitted by this company. You need not fear confrontations or dismissals if you have questions or complaints. My next sub (and it may be this one) will be bought from them.
I have 2 RSL 12S and my room is 36 x 15. I've been highly amazed at how they perform in my room. Main listening position is 18 ft and my friends think I have bass shakers under the seat..but I don’t
I totally get that, I listen to a pretty wide variety of genres, some I have preference for no subs others I just enjoy more of a deep frequency kick. The remote on the 12S is a bonus for that type of user as well.
@@JamaicaSocial lol that's the first time I'm hearing someone call an hsu sub musical. just so you know, their subs are marketed for movie theaters, they are the furthest from hifi or audiophile sound quality.
Need your personal opinion about the 12s vs the SVS PC-4000. I know the biggest difference is price and space but really just want to know of I'll get the same performance from the 12s in comparison to the SVS.
i want to add this to my z906 system would using an rca splitter to have one LR signal going to my z906 system and the other split LR signal to this sub for the low end would that work?
I just got my 10S MkII about 8 months ago. I love it. My plan was always to buy another 10S and have dual subs, but I'm not even sure I need it. My room is kind of large (part of a finished basement) but I'll be damned if that 10S isn't putting out a lot of bass. I'll have to watch Dune 4k again and find out if I feel anything is missing.
I’m in the exact situation, I bought one 10s MKII for my medium size basement movie room with plans to add a second one. I’m not sure i need a second one, the single 10s MKII sounds so good . I’m debating getting the 12s and selling the 10s
Comparing deep extension it will greatly lean to the RSL 12S, but to be fair it is ported vs sealed. The SB-3000 is a nice sub but just cant complete in a larger space if your looking for sub 20hz feel it instead of hear it bass.
@@MattCoykendall1 I see, thanks. Would one choose a sealed sub only if they had a small enough room / large enough sealed sub and wanted to get some extra clarity? I have a 30 foot x 20 foot room (only first 17 feet of it is dedicated HT seating, the rest is ping pong, wet bar etc that can be secondary seating when needed) with 8.5ft ceilings, so guessing I'd need the bigger output of RSL 12S. Asking since SB-3000 is on sale for $900 right now :)
I actually prefer sealed for music only systems, sounds a bit cleaner to me and music rarely requires the ultra deep extension but if your main use case is home theater I would suggest sealed. You can pull off sealed in the right room but yours is pretty large.
I wonder if this is “too much” for 2 channel music focused system? I have a set of Maggie 1.7is and Anthem STr integrated with ARC room correction. 80% used for 2 channel 20% for gaming or HT. Was looking at dual rythmik f12 , dual rel t9x, dual sumiko s9, or dual rsl speed woofer 10S mk2. This would be a nice savings but not sure it will integrate well with fast speakers. Don’t really care about maximum spl or excursion. But more about speed, transient response, control, and integration.
One thing to consider is the size in comparison to all the others mentioned in your comment. I feel like your leaning more to a music focused sub, most budget friendly option would be the 10s pair which I found quite musical, the Sumiko s.9 I also own a pair, good sub but very difficult to find these days, closest comparison to those would be the REL. I still need to get a Rythmik in to test, but by all means if you want a monster the 12s fits the bill! Haha
@@MattCoykendall1 I’ve got a sumiko dealer or former dealer near me with some s.9 stock. If you were choosing between dual s.9 and dual 10s mk2 for purely music which would you lean towards?
No such thing as too much, it has to do with room size. My room is 500 square feet, so I chose vented over sealed, and I sit about 12 feet away from my speakers, so I could go with anything from 12 inch to 18 inch ported. But also it has to do with how "warm" you like your sound. If you like super warm, you could go with 18 inch subs, I like just a bit of definition so I went with 2 FVX12 Rythmik subs.
The main benefit of rsl everyone who made the video on this sub missed is that this is not your old school simple ported sub they use TQWT (aka folded voigt They won't directly say this but diy'rs know that). Which is far better than just adding a port in terms of speed of the transients are far better than ported not quite sealed level but with better Extention down low. So even if you remove the price factor that sub will still beat almost everything of its size in ported form.
Yes you are spot on and I wish I would have went into that, I can tell you I reached out to their engineer as I was curious how they felt it compared to TQWT and this is what they came back with “Our patented Compression Guide tuning differs in that it creates areas of expansion, contraction, expansion coupled with specific volume, baffling, transducer parameters and tuning to achieve the desired output, vent velocity and impedance attributes which yield the extension and transient performance that we target.”
@@MattCoykendall1 Woah thanks for this. I still don't understand what they changed to patent that but more power to those engineers if they were. In english he was simply stating what a voight pipe does (ofc they are using a tweaked version of that) check our Real world audio's voigt pipe speaker build series he explains it far better than me.
This is an infomercial. If it is $800 with free shipping, it looks like a best value of 12" sub. The sharp exterior corners are bad, easily get nicked. What is the warranty for the amp? Those on board amps have much higher failure rate. Warranty on amp determines the life of the whole sub.
I respectfully disagree but that depends on the features that are important to you as well. The non pro pb2000 falls short on a number of areas, previous owner of PB2000 here, not as much power below 20hz, less powerful amp, no remote, no dsp options no bass management no speaker level inputs. It can be had for 600 but only through the outlet store on a previously used model, 699 new when it’s on sale like it is right now.
@@MattCoykendall1 I agree to disagree. I own two PB2000's. Same RMS 500 watts rating. The peak rating is very short bursts that don't make that much of a difference. Thats just bragging about higher numbers. The PB2000 has plenty of power under 20hz...maybe you have room issues. In my opinion the no remote is fine with me.
