Glad you talked about how adding the subwoofer makes the sound more "expansive". It's really impressive and movies, as well as music. Especially with the modern music, which use a lot more of the lower frequency range.
I used two of these bad boys in a friends basement rig. I pre-wired the whole loudspeaker system and installed the speakers. It's a big room, UHD projector, 120" screen, mid tier Atmos receiver and matching tweeter/woofer speakers everywhere. The best thing about the RSL product is the affordable wireless setup that allows for easy experimentation with placement. Not cheap but very musical and they boom when needed.
I don’t have a subwoofer but I am on the market.. I was wandering about using one wirelessly for a desktop PC gaming/audio setup.. Do you feel your subs “lack” at all using them wirelessly? I have sort of a unique game room layout that I may use 2 subs for and place them in opposite corners, which would translate to some long wire runs, of which I’m completely ocd about so I’d have to drill a hole in the wall, run them up to the ceiling to the attic, across the room and down to the source.. A pain in the ass that I don’t want to deal with but I thought would be necessary to get the best experience.. I’ve always thought a wireless sub wouldn’t translate to a great experience, but maybe that’s me getting old lol
@@rahliE777I chose wireless because I wanted the flexibility to place the subwoofers where they fit the decor. I never auditioned them with cables. I set the subwoofer levels with women's vocal music music, and haven't touched the settings since. While I have NOT had any extended listening sessions in my friends basement lossy music via Spotify and Pandora sounds fine. Lossless Blu-rays are amazing. IIRC RSL has a generous return policy if you're not please. Just to clarify the basement is a large open plan room with 11.5" ceilings, hence the two (2) RSL 10SMKII subs. Take a look at the Brent Butterworth's New York Time Wirecutter review.
agree 100% Randy... I have used Subs dialed with my fronts for 3 decades.. its not about the boom, but adding richness and punch to the music. Only time folks know my subs are on is when I turn them off!!! no boom-boom.. only for action movies. One of my set-ups has the RSL10" speedwoofer... and its awesome, we call it our "mighty-mouse"!!
I ended up buying the Speedwoofer 10S MKiii because of your review. I was on the fence about the SVS SB1000 because of comments about its limited output, so I started considering the PB1000, but that's $300 more. The RSL came in at the right price point and the reviews were absolutely raving.
@@NeoRimeOnline that's great to hear! Glad that you enjoy it. I love the way you put it haha. I really want one as well but I'm in Europe so I'll have to work out the total price it'll cost me to get it here, hopefully I can manage it :(
Totally right, Randy. Esperanza Spalding describes what she does as a bass player as setting up the dance floor for other musicians. A subwoofer does the same thing for home stereo. A wide and deep soundstage has nowhere to go without a solid low end.
I have pretty big floorstanders, but after watching a bunch of Paul McGowan videos, I decided I needed subs. A couple of BK subs later, and my speakers were transformed. It's about bass quality rather than just quantity. It also improves the mid range. If you have the subs dialled in properly, you would never know a sub was there until you take it, or them, away. It's a fantastic way to improve your musical experience without splashing out on brand new speakers.
I run a pair of subs on my system and the difference a pair makes over 1 is quite impressive. I highly recommend 2 over 1. I run them through the speaker level inputs and that sounds the best listening to music as well as movies to me.
My home theater setup has two subs. A 10" Mirage Omni S10 with a built-in 300w amp, and some repurposed car audio, a 12" Boston Acoustics G312-44 Dual Voice Coil sub in a custom sealed box powered by a SoundStream Reference 500s (500w rms) amplifier. The main speaker setup is a pair of JBL Studio Series S310 towers, S38 Rear, and S-Center.
15:20 to fifteen thirty: no truer words have been spoken, at least as of mid-2023. I've been into home theater for years. I love Hsu subs, and only Hsu and SVS had subs that could realistically dig down to or below 20Hz at prices below $2000 with both output and fidelity. But I really have to check out the 12S because all stats and reviews seem to indicate that the 12S can match or beat the performance of Hsu and SVS subs for half the cost or less. And for those that don't know, that is staggeringly cheap compared to REL, JTR, PSA, JLA, Perlisten, etc. who all sell some of the best-performing subs in existence right now, but you'll be paying 4 or 5 figures per sub!
Great info in this video!! I just recently picked up a Dayton 12” sub to add to the 8” ported and required high level inputs. My goal was to fill in under 55hz down to as low as possible which the Dayton 12” doesn’t do. However it does add volume and depth and overall bass to my HT setup!! I had both RSL mkII in the cart but couldn’t get enough $$ to purchase at that time. 🎉. That said, my next goal is to starve and save until I can get the RSL 12”!! This is such an awesome deal!! $799 plus free shipping, remote control AND high and low level inputs, PLUS built in EQ?!?! For me this is the best ported sub I could ask for!!!! (Live in a townhouse so sound levels would need to be adjusted depending on time of day etc) 🎉 I researched for weeks and compared everything with high level inputs and the RSL 12S is my dream sub! 🎉 I WILL have one some day! 🎉 At any rate, point of comment is to say that after days and weeks of research, the 12S is def the best bang for buck under $800!! No question! 🎉
Don't the cheap audio fans have dreams? I am surprised that this many people complain about prices on stuff you show. There isn't that much stuff under $200 that is worth talking about. $699 is cheap in the big picture. Newbies need to aspire to something greater than Chinese repro's. IMO
Man I just discovered your channel. I too am a cheap audio guy! I don't claim to be an audiophile, but I've been around for quite a while and just know what sounds good to me. Great content.
Hey Randy thanks for the content, I have watched most of it (I'm subscribed)! I have set up my SMSL AO200 MK2, love it, and today placed an order for my RSL Speedwoofer 12S. The wife doesn't know - her reaction will be EPIC!!!! I may need to crash at your place for a while!!!!!! I'll blame it ALL on you man!!! Keep it coming brother!!! Hey and ignore the lifeless idiot haters (if any) keep your style! Fellow military member (USAF) Jose.
I believe when I started watching you, which was not very long ago, you were around 120k subs.. Congrats on the growth! Love the channel, I love that I’m not seeing all kind of graphs that I don’t at all understand, just some real talk about your experience with whatever piece of kit you’re reviewing.. Measurements are cool, but for me they don’t translate to “entertainment” so to speak, meaning if the videos full of measurement talk and going back and forth to different graphs I’m not watching it
I have GR-Reserch modified CerwinVega! SL12 Speakers and I still use a subwoofer. I agree it makes things so much better even on a full range speaker 👍🏻🔈
I've got a lot of power on the cheap. I've got two RTR 15 inch sub towers. powered by a Mitsubishi M-VR1000 receiver from Goodwill for $40.00. I bought a Rockville PA amp and hooked it to an NVX 15 inch sub in a slot ported box that I built for a car stereo in the past. It rattles the house pretty good.
Great review and advice. RSL and SVS have been on my list for a long time. I have always felt that a sub fills out the 'feel' of the music. Thanks, as always, for your time and effort to share this with us all.
The mobile apps allows you to 'control' the sub without getting off your seats and is more affordable than RSL are the reasons why I ended up with SVS. :)
I have a couple of SVS tubes from the early 2000s, they still seam to work flawless. Also I was hoping you would take time to review those SVS or REL wireless adapters for subwoofers.
I got the 10S MkII and it's excellent. It's all the sub I need, although it would have been nice to have the internal high-pass filter. (And WHY don't more subs have that, BTW?) If the 10S sounds this good, the 12S must be just unbelievable.
I agree. The Speedwoofer 12S is a great value. Rear ports are a bit more placement picky. But the reviews I've seen and read speak very highly of this subwoofer. One does hear a lot more detail from a well designed sound system.
I’m running two RSL 10s for music and movies in my open concept living room. Sounds great and fills the space with plenty of warmth and kick for me. I’d love to try two of these, but I’m afraid of them!
so timely. got my 10smk2 two days ago.thanks largley to your recommendation.not gonna lie. it is a bit intimidating with all the phase and pass and placement and all that but i guess ill figure it out.ill rewatch this video probably 5 more times and your insight is really appreciated. Thanks as always CAM!
I have two Sunfire EQ’s and I use them on all my speakers. Even hooked one to my vintage ten watt tube amp , with some LS/35a’s . Now that was cool:) When taken out , the soundstage collapses.
I'm kind of surprised more companies haven't come out with a SVS style app. A sub when set up properly with decent stand mounts can sound outrageously good. Getting off the couch and fiddling around with settings between albums gets old real fast.
So if you are using the HPF'd main pair output from the sub to drive Front L/R, aren't you giving up the pseudo-surround effect processing of the Syn ? Since that already has a cutoff of 80Hz on its sub-specific output, why not use that, and then HPF the Front L/R separately, after the Syn direct output?
Hi Randy. About 4 months ago you did an unboxing video on RSL Bookshelf Speakers, I assumed a review will follow up, I kept on checking on you and finally I see "RSL", but this "Giant Sub" SHOCKED me as well - in a different way :( Common guys, is it just me interested in CG3/CG5 Speaker review?!?!
Great insight Ran! A properly integrated sub should help the frequencies right above what it could do to help make the sstg wider, a better sense of depth & ‘atmosphere’. It ain’t all about the boom-boom!
I have a 12 inch Monoprice I got on sale for 78 bucks. I use it with my Emotiva T1s and Aiyima T9. I have the bass on the T9 turned down about 3 db and turned up on the sub to compensate. The bass control on the T9 is at 100 Hz so that is where I also set the sub. By doing this the below 100 Hz jaggedness in the Emotivas is reduced. It makes a notable improvement in their sound.
Always appreciate your take. Heard a lot about this subwoofer. Seems like a beast. A follow up on the Syn would be awesome, like you said long term thoughts. All the best.
@Cheapaudioman..-_ so how do I get in touch with you .. I do have an account on patreon and I see no way to email you or message you.. I'm quite curious to see what it is that I won.. whatever it may be it just maybe when I'm looking for which things in the way of communication we're a bit more private on RUclips but they're not..
I have the speedwoofer 10 and I love it. Just for comparison my reference subwoofer is dual svs pb 4000's in my theater set up so I know quality bass and rsl is a ridiculous deal for what they offer. I will be buying the s 12 to incorporate I to one of my 2 channel set ups so thanks for the video randy.
I bought my first sub longer ago- the original Sunfire sub. Sure it augmented the bass for my Maggie’s, which I expected but I was shocked at what it did for the soundstage.
I think I made a discovery A lot of cheaper speakers or just a lot of speakers in general sound good pointing straight out .. I believe the sound engineers designed the music to echo around the room and in a smaller room which most people have they sound amazing
No such thing as a waste of time or money when you can walk away and learn something from it. The knowledge you are gaining from all of these experiments is priceless. I know I have learned a lot from your videos. Thanks for being whiling to share your journey with us.
Great company. They do not deal in disappointing their customers, I know. My 10 is a good SMALL sub. I would have bought this 12 if it had been available. Since almost every decent sub has an amp, the receiver's amps have this load lifted from it's narrower 'shoulders'.
I preamp the f-mod 70 hz through douk level control to fix the 3db loss then into tpa3255 monoblock, all from 35 ft pro cable to my smartphone. Lol @ my home concert level system (last one).
hook sub up to preamp out then run an rca from the sub to the amp and then connect speakers to the amp. only works if you have a separate soucre/preamp and amp though
The HiPass filter is quite handy. Most 2.0 integrated amps don't have anything like this and run the mains full range. Which is not ideal. The HPF saves the day.
Subwoofers add depth when done right! You always have great caveat call outs. I think when you set where the speakers frequency response rolls off and you let the sub blend in… good things happen. This monster looks fun! Random your video quality is really good! I know it’s a bunch of work! Been watching your channel grow and am impressed! What software you editing with?
I have a modest budget sub that only goes down to 35Hz, but it's transformed music for me. 'Intergalactic' now sounds like Godzilla is breakdancing in my living room. Also tested out that Korn / Skrillex track, finally heard what you were talking about.
I recently replaced my SVS PB2000 Pro for the RSL S12 and yeah huge difference. S12 is way better and best bang for the buck in home theater subs, bar none.
@@kholl7692 I don't know how that could be your take. Nothing in my post is even slightly looking for validation. I could not care less what anyone thinks.
Big driving subs for HT and small a driving subs for music. My stereo speakers only go down to 45 Hz so I purchased a stereo pair of 8 in rel subs. Considering the vast majority of music only goes down to 30 Hz there absolutely perfect for 2-channel stereo listening and if I don't mind saying so myself they actually sound pretty good in my small 13 x 11.5 ft room for HT as well.
What do you think of the new klipsch rp1200sw? I just ordered it as it was only 599. If I don't like it I'm returning it to get the rsl 12s. Do u think the 12s is 200 dollars better? If the klipsch performs I'll just keep it.
I purchased the 10mkii but that wasn't doing it for me. I ordered this 12 and it's nice! I would say this is like a svs pb2000 pro. I also have a PB3000 and it's not quite there but very very close...had they existed before me buying the PB3000 then I would've gone with the RSL to save me almost half the money.
how does it compares with yamaha s301 for near field (as s301 has loudness compensation that should be very useful at low volume that is necessary for super near field destop setup) why isn't there more modern amps with loudness compensation that is usefull to a lot of us that are listening to music from a laptop on a desk ?
I recently bought the RSL 10S and it's really nice. My living room is kinda big-ish and the 10" makes really nice house-shaking bass. I can only imagine the 12S being even more wub wubs. Good quality product.
Can I assume these are not rated neighbour proof? I don't have experience with subs really. I'm gonna assume my neighbours in my appartment complex will despise me with such subs even at relatively low volumes?
@@danielh12345 yeah, I live in a house with no shared walls, so I cant really say. I guess it depends on how much insulation your apartment has in walls and floors. If you can hear your neighbors, then it probably goes both ways.
@@danielh12345 I would go with one subwoofer if you live in an apartment. I have a basic soundbar with a 10" sub and the upstairs neighbors came down and knocked on my door. I wouldn't consider getting anything bigger unless I move into a house.
I've never been able to smoothly integrate my SVS 13 inch sub with my main tower speakers. I think the problem is that my speakers already have excellent bass and the SVS cuts off at about 20 Hz (they say 18 Hz) so it doesn't add much to bass response. To be fair, SVS recommended the larger sub for my speakers but it cost twice as much so I opted for the smaller cheaper one.
Subs are a “must have” for home theater; don’t enjoy movies without it. Not so much imho for stereo, if you have a serious amount of cash wrapped up in an “appropriate” speakers, amp, and sonic environment. I know a lot of people don’t agree with this, but if you have a lot of money wrapped up in full range speakers, and amplifiers and quality sources for stereo reproduction, and the place to det it up, the extra expense of getting subs set up, in my mind is not worth the extra expense; if you want to do the speakers on stands with the high pass filter and subs for stereo, then that’s another story. That said, this $800 sub is way 😎.👨🏻
I seriously need a subwoofer update since my decade-old Velodyne shorted out somehow, but I want something more than Ash Black, Piano Black, and Gloss White for finish choices! Was recently trying get get my hands on a Klipsch R-112SW in the cherry finish to match my RP160Ms, but the seller was just too proud of what they had. Even Hsu Research ended their Rosenut options, dagnabit... Bring back the wood finishes!
I have what 15 or 20 years back (or more?) was £1000 worth of REL subwoofer, a 12" driver in a sealed box. It never gets used now because when it's tufned on & dialled in at 40, 60 or 80'hz or any x'over point & i stand near a wall, it seems to really add & help the music sound great, really great! But as soon as I get a foot or 15"inches max away from any side wall, the bass disappears like Prince Andrew in his mum's basement, & graduallt turning it's Vol' up just makes it sound awfully boomy all of a sudden from no bass. In fact, when I'm on the listening sofa aka stereo sweet spot, it sounds like less bass when the sub is turned on & more bass when turned off, it subtracts bass for the listening position regaurdless where I put that 2 position phase switch, it's either "total phase shift on or none" i.e. zero degree or a 180'deg shift but I may need a 90' or 120' degree shift or 116'degree shift tho dialled-in by ear to suit speaker matched listening for anywhere in room, except a foot near a damm prerimeter wall!! but i cannot do that with my (nor any?) REL. I notice other brands have a completely variable phase shift throughout 1 whole sine-wave of 360'degree or half of one to shift upto 180'deg but variably so, not just a 180'deg shift or none at all as in my Rel Q400E. I've tried moving the sub, the listening sofa but not allowed to keep the sub too far from the rear wall or corners. I've sworn to myself to get rid of this bloody REL Q400E with it's dumb phase shift choice & I've sworn to common sense that my next Sub will have a completely variable phase shift to cover 1 whole sine-wave so it will blend Anywhere in the room, not everywhere but blend at the listening seat, with my main speaker pair. I've not heard anyone talk of phase shift limitations that can force you to place the sub in the most inconvenient positions if it doesn't blend by sheer chance if plonked between or to the side of one speaker, or a corner, my room shape does not suit the limited phase shift of this REL, period.
I'm also a big fan of SVS, though I've had duals from a company called totem, and PSB and some others. I think duals are really great for making the low end feel impactful regardless of where you're sitting. I've been doing duals with my towers in my 2 channel setup and really like it too. I'm debating going to ported for home theater - you mentioned moving from sealed to ported recently. Is the size and cost worth it? It's probably entirely dependent on my own preference, but I still appreciate hearing others.
I'd recommend 2 of those subs. Also if you go big like an 18 inch sub but your Maines are 6 inch speakers. There's going to be a hole in the middle of your sound. You're better off looking at 10's or 12's. I wouldn't over look a dual bandpass speaker either. dual 12's will kick like 15's in an open box. A passive filter in the main speaker line can be used too. The correct filter is going to depend on what size subs you're using and what size Mains you're running. With 5 inch mains I'd guess at somewhere from 80 to 125Hz to the main speakers. you'll have to determine whats best for your setup. There's no cookie cutter solution.
A good 18 inch should be fine regardless of how big your speakers are. I think an 18 inch driver shouldnt start beaming until well past 400hz that said id rather have two 12s than just one 18
@@Nick_4i but it won't be fine if your mains are 10 inches or smaller. Your sound will have a hole in the middle where 125 to 250 Hz should be. The 18's will produce very little above 80 Hz and roll off about 6 or 12 decibel per octave until cutoff. Before you settle for 12's. I would encourage you to listen to a pair of 18's. They will blow your socks off if you have the power available. The bass that 18's or 15's produce without effort will be a strain for 12's. The cones will struggle to produce the same bass and the stress will produce more distortion, especially at higher volumes. That's not to say Im against 12's especially if you have 2 or 4 per channel. If you're a metal head, or you listen to AC/DC you'll be impressed. My friend had some Bose 901's with with 8 4 1/2 in drives and they would produce low bass but they weren't impressive to me when I listened to them. I invited him to hear my speakers that consisted of 4 15's in each box and when the bass kicked in I thought he was going into labor. The Bose sounded good but they didn't have the impact that my speakers delivered. I would also encourage you to build your own speakers. Play safe.
I got one of these when they first released them. I have towers that go down to 33Hz, and find that a 40Hz cross over works best for me. What I love about it is the volume remote. I usually leave it in Reference mode and then dial up the volume for movies about 3 dB and then roll it back down when listening to music. So easy! Love the channel. Wondering if I can use my Sith Port Lube on this sub? Any advice?
Well Randy, I do both🙊 Fullrange speakers, dual 12inch, starts to roll off at 14hz in room, and two subs too boot🙊 Hard as duck to integrate peoperly, but when done right, it is sooooo good 😁 Btw: 699 for a sub, is not much. Rather cheap for the performance (from what I find about it).
Unless it's very small speakers I will NEVER use high-pass filter on them. Bookshelf is ok, bigger floorstanding I don't touch it. The sub is supposed to add in where the room makes the speakers roll off. Even if a speaker is rated to go down to 10Hz it will most likely never do it any good because most normal rooms wont allow that. Or if the amp is weak. It requires some juice to hit the lows good. I also don't adjust the sub level to the music.. I adjust it where it plays like it should on everything and never touch it again. And tone controls on amps/recivers are always disabled if possible.
The 12s would make you change those habits I am pretty sure. The thing slams tracks. Rock N Roll never sounded better. FULL, deep and poweful. Vinyl Appetite for destruction is blissful.
@@Eron55555 Nope... Not at all. Tried this so many times now that I lost count with different spealers and subs in all orice ranges. It never sounds as good as not using x-over on larger speakers. ONLY on small speakers I had succes with this Yeah.. The subs are good. But that will still never make me mess up the bass from my floorstanding speakers
@@Oystein87 Oh I didn't mean xovers on mains.. lol .. I meant messing with the sub volume, ect. Remote makes it nice to just give ya that extra punch if the mood suits. To me, it's much more impactful for rock than the SVS PB1000 Pro.
@@Eron55555 Oh, my bad😅 Yes, on that we can agree👌 I also have a remote on my Velodyne sub but I don't really touch it. The sub gets adjusted to fit all music genres I listen to and then I leave it alone. Bit it sure is nice to habe a remote for it
@@Oystein87 I have Energy RC-70's as the mains in my theater room. I do cross them at 40hz.. I tested full range with them before and in my previous location where I had a bigger wider room, going full range with the subs kicked major butt. But in my new smaller area I now occupy for a theater room I find better response with the slight crossover. But, I'll likely give it some more testing.. That room has 4 SVS SB1000s. The RSL 12's are to bookshelves ..(SONY CS-CS 5's or whatever they are.. I find they just punch the highs in wonderful unity with large ported subs. Impact... Anyhow I am babbbling. :)
Wish manufacturers like Klipsch who did a nice job with eArc with 7's and 9','s could add a simple 5.2 out and offer a center option Cheap to do removes reciever from equation of getting steering logic for movie sountracks
I walked into a budget AVR and am currently researching speakers for it. It would be going into a roughly 12x12 ft room. What would be a better option: smaller speaker and a sub or a larger pair of bookshelf speakers? Would be used mostly for music.
I am very much loving the fact that I can bounce my house around and any One direction by just a few in with my subwoofer setup.. and my neighbor's care a great deal about that.. and honestly I don't give a damn. They can ham and haniel and complain and scream and make phone calls and all kinds of other nonsense but I love my subwoofer setup ever since I discovered jtx and cerwin-vega earthquake machines.. just listen to an album titled.. oxygen.. created performed and splendidly packaged by by J. I ended up buying the Speedwoofer 10S MKiii because of your review. I was on the fence about the SVS SB1000 because of comments about its limited output, so I started considering the PB1000, but that's $300 more. The RSL came in at the right price point and the reviews were absolutely raving.
How is it?
@@yannis7815 it's awesome! WAY better than my Klipsch R120SW. I have ZERO regrets. If I was stolen, I'd buy it again.
@@NeoRimeOnline that's great to hear! Glad that you enjoy it. I love the way you put it haha. I really want one as well but I'm in Europe so I'll have to work out the total price it'll cost me to get it here, hopefully I can manage it :(
I got a pair of the 10s and they are more than I need. Holy moly. I'd love to hear the 12. Or a pair of them for that matter.
I have 2 of the older speedwoofer 10s that are fantastic for music, filling an 18x24 room with any missing bottom end and do it with ease.
I was an early adopter for the 12S and I have to say this subwoofer is dayum!! Deep and hard.
I just ordered mine today - looking forward to it!
Totally right, Randy. Esperanza Spalding describes what she does as a bass player as setting up the dance floor for other musicians. A subwoofer does the same thing for home stereo. A wide and deep soundstage has nowhere to go without a solid low end.
I appreciate the explanations of all the doodads and thingies.
I've had my Klipsch 15" sub for almost 25 years. And the Klipsch 12" sub for about 13 years. When that craps out, I may look at these.
Thanx Randy.
(Live in a townhouse so sound levels would need to be adjusted depending on time of day etc) 🎉
I researched for weeks and compared everything with high level inputs and the RSL 12S is my dream sub! 🎉 I WILL have one some day! 🎉
At any rate, point of comment is to say that after days and weeks of research, the 12S is def the best bang for buck under $800!!
IMO
Haha Cheap Audioman gets the award for finding the needle in the haystack. I think price to performance this thing is GOLD great find SIR KUDOS
Man I just discovered your channel. I too am a cheap audio guy! I don't claim to be an audiophile, but I've been around for quite a while and just know what sounds good to me. Great content.
You are the best Randy, i love all your videos, so informative. God bless you
Hey Randy thanks for the content, I have watched most of it (I'm subscribed)!

I believe when I started watching you, which was not very long ago, you were around 120k subs.. Congrats on the growth! Love the channel, I love that I’m not seeing all kind of graphs that I don’t at all understand, just some real talk about your experience with whatever piece of kit you’re reviewing.. Measurements are cool, but for me they don’t translate to “entertainment” so to speak, meaning if the videos full of measurement talk and going back and forth to different graphs I’m not watching it
I’ve never heard of RSL, but it looks like it’ll do work!
I use two. one left one right. It gives a more even bass response
2 is always more appropriate for best, flexible results. Don’t forget the high pass on the mains.
Rockville and NVX are 2 underrated companies. Hopefully more people will start to notice them 😀
Great review and advice.
@@cheowlinlee6703 RSL has remotes. No need to fumble with the phone.
(And WHY don't more subs have that, BTW?)
If the 10S sounds this good, the 12S must be just unbelievable.
Love my 10 mkiis! They do it all! Amazing sound quality with balls.
Now that was cool:)
When taken out , the soundstage collapses.
Thank you. You were really on Bass (base) with this one.
5:20 Like the slipper being used as an acoustic room treatment.
I thought it was for scale, LOL. He was probably out of bananas.
Or the slipper says that this sub, kicks all others to the curb !!!
Randy a good review would be the $1K Parasound pre which has high/low pass something you don't find in many 2 channel pre's
I wonder how it compares to a klipsch 14". I have two of the 14s and would love to get two speedwoofers 12s to compare
I'm kind of surprised more companies haven't come out with a SVS style app. A sub when set up properly with decent stand mounts can sound outrageously good. Getting off the couch and fiddling around with settings between albums gets old real fast.
RSL said they were going to but the cost of making the app would ruin the cost placement of the sub
I got a speedwoofer 12S. Huge beast.
Hi Randy. About 4 months ago you did an unboxing video on RSL Bookshelf Speakers, I assumed a review will follow up, I kept on checking on you and finally I see "RSL", but this "Giant Sub" SHOCKED me as well - in a different way :(
Common guys, is it just me interested in CG3/CG5 Speaker review?!?!
Question, can you control the volume of the HPF with the remote or its fixed?
Still rocking the Sunfire True Sub Signature, but love hearing about what’s out there in the market.
Hear the lyrics to a great little jingle. Having to bounce my house across the landscape because it has no wheels😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
For slightly more money, you can get the Monoprice M-12. The advantage is that it's THX certified, has front ports, and XLR input.
Great company. They do not deal in disappointing their customers, I know.
My 10 is a good SMALL sub. I would have bought this 12 if it had been available.
Since almost every decent sub has an amp, the receiver's amps have this load lifted from it's narrower 'shoulders'.
My diy duo dayton 18's need the parametric eq of the 500w dayton plate. I put wheels on it. Fmod 70hz .❤
I preamp the f-mod 70 hz through douk level control to fix the 3db loss then into tpa3255 monoblock, all from 35 ft pro cable to my smartphone. Lol @ my home concert level system (last one).
Which SVS subs would you compare to this?
+1 for another long term user’s review of the Syn. I still can’t quite wrap my head around it.
Kali WS-6.5.... dual speaker active subwoofer. $499! Incredible! 😎
Thanks for the vid
For hooking up a sub in a separates system, should the sub go into the pre-amp, and then 2 speakers into the power amp?
hook sub up to preamp out then run an rca from the sub to the amp and then connect speakers to the amp. only works if you have a separate soucre/preamp and amp though
@@cheapaudioman thank you sir. Going with an Emotiva system as a result of your vids :)
This sub is on my shortlist to replace my boomy and sloopy polk psw 505
Best sub for the price hands down love mine may have to buy another when I can
The HiPass filter is quite handy.
Hi cheapaudioman, do you have any interest to review Proreck Speakers?
I have a modest budget sub that only goes down to 35Hz, but it's transformed music for me. 'Intergalactic' now sounds like Godzilla is breakdancing in my living room. Also tested out that Korn / Skrillex track, finally heard what you were talking about.
I recently replaced my SVS PB2000 Pro for the RSL S12 and yeah huge difference. S12 is way better and best bang for the buck in home theater subs, bar none.
Are you looking for validation?
@@kholl7692 I don't know how that could be your take. Nothing in my post is even slightly looking for validation. I could not care less what anyone thinks.
I have subs. I don't use them when listening to music. Obviously, they're very much needed for HT use.
1:42, "doodies"😂
Ok, back to being mature.
Randy. The RSL 12S has BARELY ANY reviews on youtube. You should do a subwoofer shootout with this badboy. Thanks in advance. ;p
how does it compares with yamaha s301 for near field (as s301 has loudness compensation that should be very useful at low volume that is necessary for super near field destop setup) why isn't there more modern amps with loudness compensation that is usefull to a lot of us that are listening to music from a laptop on a desk ?
Not gonna lie you can throw a decent sub in a gsg enclosure with pro amp and get huge output that sounds great
I enjoy your channel and it kicked me into audio mode after many moons away. It's costing me money. Thanks? Yeah. Thanks I guess, lol.
@@lloydhudson9032 thanks, sounds like solid advice!
That said, this $800 sub is way 😎.👨🏻
Can you do a Comparison between Q Acoustics Q5020 vs Polk Legend L200???
Sibilance of the Lambs FTW. If RSL adds a dual-opposed subwoofer variant, you could then safely rest your nice Chianti on it.
yay!...Im the 1K like...what do I get Randy?
Subwoofer of the Lambs, great movie
I think an 18 inch driver shouldnt start beaming until well past 400hz
that said id rather have two 12s than just one 18
Any advice?
Hey randy are you going to review elac’s new subs? Their new varro line up? I just want to know if they are worth 2x the price of rsl

Well Randy, I do both🙊
Fullrange speakers, dual 12inch, starts to roll off at 14hz in room, and two subs too boot🙊
Hard as duck to integrate peoperly, but when done right, it is sooooo good 😁
Btw:
699 for a sub, is not much.
Rather cheap for the performance (from what I find about it).
I'm sure I will eventually get a sub. But it's still not very high on my list. Great Review Randy!!! 👍👍👍
ONLY on small speakers I had succes with this
Yeah..
What I found with subwoofers is that you can sense low frequency presence even if you can’t hear it.
kool beans!
What was the sub that you replaced?
I am very much loving the fact that I can bounce my house around and any One direction by just a few in with my subwoofer setup.. and my neighbor's care a great deal about that.. and honestly I don't give a damn.
