Didn't really feel the bass in our home theater until I repurposed a couple old Rockford fosgate 15" car subs (HX2) from the 90's and connected them to a crown XLS 2002. 1050w RMS per sub with a 2ohm load on each channel of the amp.
I have a pair of them! Slightly older front ported 10s and the new MkII. They work well together and will rip your guts out! Movies and music are at another level. I did purchase the wireless transmitter but I think my positioning was negatively impacting it and was somewhat hard to pair to two different era speakers. I ditched it and put them in the same corner of the room and the dead spots are pretty much non-existent now and they are so tight and can really reach low especially with a pair of them. I can also attest to the fact that it's accurate. I believe it is the RSL signature waveguide that makes the sub act like a sealed enclosure while also boosting those lows and SPL with the port. Also the port is quiet so these suckers whether it's the older front facing or the rear facing seem crazy accurate. Love it!
I purchased a 10s Mk II about a year ago and have been very happy with it. I delayed purchasing a sub for years as my main speakers do quite well with bass. So I was pleasantly surprised when the bass (especially with movies) became fuller and deeper and not localized. I set the crossover at 60hz and that relieves much of the bass burden on the AVR and mains. At 450, it's a steal! The preorder process is acceptable to me for a company that works hard to bring top value for buck and relies on word of mouth advertising rather than incessant Internet ads (svs). Oh.. musically the RSL doesn't disappoint either!
This company has been everywhere after I started researching options for a sub to add to my 2 channel system. I was looking at a SVS SB-1000 pro to begin with until I got wind of the RSL 10s. RSL quoted for the 10s and shipping to Western Australia only $60 more than it costs to buy a PB-1000 pro here and to my understanding the RSL out performs it in every respect apart from the app, looks and size( if you value any of those things). This will be my first proper sub and very exited to see how it will sound with some edifier s3000 pro bookshelves. Fingers crossed I can snag one!
RSL FTW. I have 2 OG Speedwoofer 10S in my system. I also have 2 CG25s to round out my 2.2 setup. It's an excellent combo. I drive them with a Cambridge Audio CXA81 and a Willsenton R8 tube amp. The CG25 and Speed woofers work great with both. I also use the Wireless transmitter to connect the subs. That works great as well.
I always heard good things about this brand but never used them. A few weeks ago I purchased their in-ceiling speakers to use for my atmos setup and I am pretty happy with them. I will be replacing some Def Tech 9004 towers in my living room at some point and may look to RSL for a 2.1 or 3.1 setup.
Hey Randy! For someone who acknowledges they move and change speaker configs regularly I'm surprised you didn't appreciate SVS's setup app more. In my use case, I use more than one speaker setup in my listening room (basically small vs. large) and can setup, store and recall different configs for each using the SVS app. Also, to get the best setup possible as efficiently as possible, I pass a test tone to the both the main and subs centered on the desired crossover frequency and then sit in my listening chair with a decibel meter and tweak the phase of the subs from the SVS app until the meter maxes out. My small speakers' crossover is 80Hz and phase is 35 degrees. The large speakers' crossover is 60 and phase is 80 degrees. Lot simpler to toggle between them on my phone than crawling around to change settings on the back -- even more important when you have two subs (SB1000 Pro's) like I do. As always, I appreciate your work and will remain a patron.
You will not be sorry. While you're at it get the wireless transmitter to connect to your amp, and you don't have to run a cable to it... (Wireless receiver is built into the sub.)
Highly recommend them. I've gone from 2 CG3/CG23 and 10S to 3 CG25, 2 CG3 rear and a 10S +10SII. Waiting to order the 12S to replace the original speedwoofer. They're all great.
Found you at the perfect time! Based on this video I ordered this sub and love it! Thanks for showing out to set it up! Now I’m comparing the Elac corina to evo 4.1 evos I like much better than my Polk r100s
I specified two, count 'em, of these in my friends basement home theater. Their affordable wireless solution sealed the deal. Awesome bass, reasonable prices. "nuff said.
Waited for months during the pandemic for a mk1 with wireless. Almost cancelled the order, glad I didn’t. RSL was great with updates and no questions asked refunds. These are quick and tight as others have said and works great in a two channel setup paired with Elac DBR62.
I didn't "feel" the bass in my music until i got a SB3000. Had a SB2000, but there's a world of difference stepping up. Totally changes the listening experience for the better. The low end just keeps staying strong. Haven't heard this one, but it would interesting to hear comparisons as you review more subs.
I have a SB2000pro. Now it's a good sub, better than some others I tried, and I couldn't live without the PEQ unless I have a minidsp or Dirac with a sub..but the 2000 doesn't give that low end that stays strong like you mentioned. So the 3000 is that much better?
The ported PB2000 it can be very good value too, I recently picked up two PB2000's for $500/ea on the SVS outlet, I find them to be pretty fast and punchy after tuning with REW/MiniDSP. But they are primarily for movies which they really slam in a mid size treated room.
@PleesJakMeHof the tone of the 3k is just deeper and stronger, giving a more premium, live, professional, expensive, overall better feel to the music. Its not just volume, it sounds better at the same volume.
I don't disagree with your results, but I will add that if you have the PB 2000 Pro, you can simply plug the ports with their port tuning feature, thereby giving yourself a sealed 2000 series sub, and with a larger enclosure, no less. Best of both worlds. I've got a pair of them, and after having all the adjustment controls (PEQ, etc.) accessible from my phone (read: my comfy seat in the sweet spot), I just can't go back. If I'd had more cash on hand, I would've gotten the 3000 series, but hey...one does what one can.
It’s at the point where I watch Randy for entertainment, rather than audio buying advice, but that’s perfectly fine. Gives me something to do while I’m relaxing and enjoying my cup of coffee. 👍 Plus, hearing about “new” cheap hobby products is interesting . now that I’m an old dinosaur, people like Randy make my day lol
@@cheapaudioman 👍Well, your welcome there CAM. Idk what kind of commissions they pay you, but I did get a few things on Amazon based on your recommendations, for example, the Elac BS41’s, a couple of WiiM mini units, and a Topping E50 DAC to name a few. I always do appreciate your efforts regardless, so I hope and pray your business arrangements are working out for you. These days I’m essentially the FAM (Frugal Audio Man). That said, whenever I run into a situation where I need a piece of audio equipment, I won’t hesitate to do whatever it takes to get it working or replace it.😉.. since I have some vintage stuff and it’s all in service, I never know when I’m going to need an amplifier or whatever; I don’t currently have to change any cables, recap anything, change any phono styli, or fix any speaker driver or crossover.. yay👍 It must get friggin’ hot over there where you live, and we’re about to get to “those” months.
Great intro cinematic! Thank you so much for this great review. I shall certainly look into purchasing this speaker in the future. Your time and effort is, as always, greatly appreciated. Stay well and all the best.
I've got an original Speedwoofer and they play the bottom octave behind my Zu ODW. I love them. I crossover around 50hz and leave the level very low for most music, turn it up about halfway with movies through my amplifier. I've got the gain about halfway up and there is an absurd amount of headroom. I never even come close to maxing out the originals less powerful amp, and I can literally feel the air blowing across my feet when I listen to metal with the bass cranked. I'm a fan. I want another one
So far I'm loving my RSL Speedwoofer. I have it set up with L/C/R of the RSL W25E in walls running on a Denon S760. Going to add some C34E's to try out 5.1.2 in the next few weeks.
I'm seriously considering this sub. I love all the extra control and inputs/outputs that most in this class lack... and its only 10" (holds its weight against many 12" subs). It also extends upwards of 160 Hz with pretty flat response... a good pairing with my good bookshelf speakers I use for my mains and surrounds. Lack of app... That has no impact for me. Once dialed in, it will stay setup as-is.
Just got mine. Very nice. Gonna line cabinet w/ No Rez, as it does vibrate a bit. But outstanding sound for the money. Using w/ Merlin TSM-MME that are run full range. I may build some passive hi pass filters using really high end caps down the road. BTW: those cheap inline filters from Amazon are a waste of money. I suspected as much but bought anyway. Came back out of rig within minutes of listening.
Full deja vu moment right at the beginning. I think it is really widely conceived in the community how loyal rsls fans are. I think it was dms who said something similar, not about how good rsl is but about the fanbase
Hi Jeff, could you elaborate? I'm not sure what you mean with articulation / extension? I'm interpreting it as: Articulation being the speed and tightness of the bass notes and extension the more boomy goes lower part? So you combine it to get both clean feel and punch and it punches deeper?
Keep the big sub and measure it. I'll bet it has some sudden changes in frequency response in your room leading to high group delay and therefore mushy 'slow' sound. I run four 15" subs that are flat to 10hz in room (not actually that hard to do btw) and they are tight as heck. Summary? Tuning is everything!
wow. new intro. cool. although i like the original retro tune. i sort of miss the last few notes after you switched to the rock ending, lol. Now, onto the video...
Nice new intro ! Keep up the good work. I don't see there anything wrong with having premium gear from time to time if it is worth a mention a la Denafrips Aries, Elac unifi reference etc. May not be cheap, but plenty worth the investment for those who truly identify as "HiFi Enthusiasts". Randy should be re-labelled as the Affordable Audio Man (Destroyer of buildings).
Please try a hsu subwoofer. I believe they take the cake for high quality next to rythmik or psa and they are budget friendly compared to those brands at $560ish for one.
Decent review. I have 2 10smk2 and 1 10smk1. Love there products. Can't wait to here your review on there bookshelf speakers. Not many reviews of the loudspeakers exist on the interwebs, so spend some time on editing and make it a good one.
I love the way the manual is written, especially the part warning against buying expensive audio cables. However, I think what they actually have here is just a variant on a bandpass enclosure. Not saying it's not legitimate, just that it's not all that new.
The excursion and powerful amplifier are big plusses. The amp being more powerful than many larger woofers means more definition and bass excursion when needed.
I had the same opinion of the SVS being underpowered until I got it put in the right place and got the phase adjusted right. Now I have way more power than I need. The RSL is monotone in my opinion.
Raaandayyyy! about RSL, they are a SoCal company based in the San Fernando Valley where Howard Rodgers, the dad, successfully marketed knock-off JBL monitor style speakers at very reasonable prices. they weren't to my liking as i wasn't fond of the JBL sound. i was more into the Infinity and Dahlquist plus other flatter, less efficient speakers nor did i like the horn-based Klipsch (still not my bag) but i recognized the value and it got a lot of kids started into audio. starting with one location, RSL blossomed into a small chain of stores, one of which had a department called U
I’ve been waiting for this review thank you for putting this out! If you liked the 10sii wait until they drop their new 12” I think that one will shake your socks!
I've wanted to try one for many years now, but without a minidsp or dirac/rew I can't go without the PEQ that SVS offers. No way I could go back to not having dsp/peq options
Never heard RSL, but when I wanted to add a 3rd sub for the rear (some bump in the trunk), I did not wish to to buy another SVS PB1000 Pro (because of the price alone), so I picked up the Monolith by Monoprice 10in THX for $499, and I must say I am still impressed 9 months later with what comes out of that sub for a $500 10". I can only imagine the RSL being the same way.
Monolith 10 inch is superior to this one hands down. Hdf, thx certified, XLR, 500w amp , heavier build at 75 pounds ish .. and I bet the driver is better too. This is not a bad value but I don't see it dethrone the monoprice monoliths 😊
I sort of feel like the Emotiva Airmotiv XS series powered subs are doin' what these subs are doin'....at around the same price....& the Emotivas come in a pretty nicely finished HDF enclosure. Whether you like the looks of the Airmotiv XS enclosure is another discussion...but it's HDF construction & satin lacquered front baffle are "nicer" than the finish of the Speedwoofer. ...but I'm not hating on the Speedwoofer here either. For the price point, their product seems to be really nice, too.
Per the website there’s a $50 return fee. Not too sure if that’s standard in the industry but if performs well at a great price they might not have the margins for a lot of returns.
Thanks for the review! I'm building a system with Klipsch bookshelf speakers, but am thinking of going with this sub for space reasons. What is the 12" Klipsch sub that you might replace with this one?
I want too get two rsl 12" subwoofers for my basement.. i was thinking two rhythmik 15" subwoofers not sure yet those get lots of love as well.. but i think 12" will be perfect size that wont take up too much space them rhythmiks look huge ..
I just got a 10s II Speedwoofer. IMHO it doesn’t rival the SVS SB 1000 Pro, which has a deeper and much richer sound. I don’t understand what people like about the speedwoofer. Maybe it’s my system.
For my bedroom system, after testing 3 Subs, I went with the Martin Logan Dynamo 400 8 inch. 2 of the other subs had a low level buzz when my system was powered off or low volume listening, I also love the Class D amp in the ML.
Ordered a RSL 10S MK2 and tried it out in my home, with high hopes, due to reviews. Once I successfully connected the speaker to their “janky” transmitter, I started listening. The bass seemed low, lacking. I checked my settings and the receiver output. After a while, I reconnected the budget Polk I was testing and the power was obvious. I returned the RSL, ($50 return shipping) I used to install and tube competition car audio, so I have some experience with this.
@@Ezees23 nope, didn’t do SPL competition; we were into sound quality. Not only that, but I paired it with a couple nice bookshelf speakers and a smaller receiver, but it still didn’t keep up.
REL makes some great subs, but they are generally fairly pricey. Even the HT1003 is roughly 30% more than the RSL 10S and is probably on par in terms of performance, though the REL has a nicer finish.
With a sub with this much power. Is it going to blow out my ears. I have a small room, but I will be calibrating it with dirac. I guess what would you recommend for a small room set up?
How would you set the crossover if you don't have the capability on your mains? It looks like the crossover on the back only applies to the input but the outputs are all line level. I'm running out of an apollo x6 and unfortunately there's no capability of running multiple simultaneous outs and setting the crossover in the software?
The SVS PB-1000 Pro smokes the SB-1000 pro, yes even for music. If you are in Canada just get a PB-1000 pro. By the time RSL ships to you and good ol' Taxes are added to your shipment along with duty conversion rate ect,.. Just get the SVS PB1000 pro.
@@ytj22 Today , you are likely right. The RSL will cost you approximately 800 dollars or more when all said and done and the PB1000 pro is currently 1100 if your lucky. Personally, I think the SVS is worth it with the APP and build in DSP. That's worth quite a bit in a sub in my opinion. I'd be quite surprised if the RSL can get anywhere close to the punch of the PB1000.
@@Eron55555 Yes, just a bit under $800. Haven't tried the PB1000 but I would like to. I can say the mkii hits pretty hard in my small/medium sized rec room. As Randy mentioned, I too have it set to the 12 o'clock mark.
which mode were you running the sub in for most of your testing? can you/ anyone speak at all about the difference heard between the two modes? running speaker level inputs I think I can only use music mode.
SVS is currently selling the regular SB 1000 for $399. Which would you prefer now? I like clean/quick base, but for me bass isn't necessarily the be all and end all.

I seriously think I'm going to be grabbing RSL speakers for my first true HT set up. I've heard nothing but great things about their products!!
You will not be sorry. While you're at it get the wireless transmitter to connect to your amp, and you don't have to run a cable to it... (Wireless receiver is built into the sub.)

@@NimrodTod sorry, just contemplating the wireless part. 😁
Highly recommend them. I've gone from 2 CG3/CG23 and 10S to 3 CG25, 2 CG3 rear and a 10S +10SII. Waiting to order the 12S to replace the original speedwoofer. They're all great.
Awesome opening sequence. The sub looks pretty good too!
Found you at the perfect time! Based on this video I ordered this sub and love it! Thanks for showing out to set it up! Now I’m comparing the Elac corina to evo 4.1 evos I like much better than my Polk r100s
i just preordered one it looks awesome
I specified two, count 'em, of these in my friends basement home theater. Their affordable wireless solution sealed the deal. Awesome bass, reasonable prices. "nuff said.
I pre ordered it based on your review. It arrived a couple of weeks ago and I love it!! Thanks for posting the vid!!!!
of course
I went from a sb1000pro to a sb3000. It was like going from little league to the MLB. Tight, accurate, fast. It's amazing.
It’s at the point where I watch Randy for entertainment, rather than audio buying advice, but that’s perfectly fine. Gives me something to do while I’m relaxing and enjoying my cup of coffee. 👍
Plus, hearing about “new” cheap hobby products is interesting . now that I’m an old dinosaur, people like Randy make my day lol
Well thank you!
That said, whenever I run into a situation where I need a piece of audio equipment,
I won’t hesitate to do whatever it takes to get it working or replace it.😉.. since I have some vintage stuff and it’s all in service, I never know when I’m going to need an amplifier or whatever; I don’t currently have to change any cables, recap anything, change any phono styli, or fix any speaker driver or crossover.. yay👍
It must get friggin’ hot over there where you live, and we’re about to get to “those” months.
Me too,.
No Rez takes to another level. Cutting out cabinet vibration cleans up the sound. Still not totally dead (like my Merlins) but a worthy upgrade.
Great intro cinematic! Thank you so much for this great review. I shall certainly look into purchasing this speaker in the future. Your time and effort is, as always, greatly appreciated. Stay well and all the best.
Awesome intro. The wife and I laughed our socks off at that! Brilliant.
Z Rea very cool. is the Zu ODW the original dirty weekend or what?
@@Ian-wh8ut is shorthand for Omen Dirty Weekend

This sub is amazing! I have it paired with some Emotiva B2+ and it is great for both music and movies.
Their 12” speedwoofer looks promising.
I just got it and it's big but it sounds incredible
Love your new intro - the building demolition! Very Metal
Excellent! It delivers the goods! Having high quality bass is one of those things - once you have heard it, you really don't want to be without it.

Super good customer support!
So far I'm loving my RSL Speedwoofer. I have it set up with L/C/R of the RSL W25E in walls running on a Denon S760. Going to add some C34E's to try out 5.1.2 in the next few weeks.
Im signed up for the waiting list on one of these. Can't wait!!
HOLY INTRO Batman! Love It!! Randy, You're becoming quite the pro! All the best, Kevin
I use two different sized subs in my system. I think the smaller one gives better articulation and the big one better extension.
What an awesome idea! That idea never even crossed my mind. Do you run them with the same crossover point?
@@greenbeginner3353 I have a 12 inch set at 60Hz and one that has dual 8 inch drivers in a push-pull configuration set at 80Hz
Hi Jeff, could you elaborate? I'm not sure what you mean with articulation / extension? I'm interpreting it as: Articulation being the speed and tightness of the bass notes and extension the more boomy goes lower part? So you combine it to get both clean feel and punch and it punches deeper?
@@danielh12345 Yes, the larger sub has more low down SPL, while the smaller one is faster yet both are rated 3 dB down at 27 Hz.
Hey, got my PSA test done and it came back normal!
Excited for the speaker review!
I'd love to see more budget subwoofer reviews. Feels like there's lots of speaker reviews but few for subs.
The app for SVS is a huge differentiator over other brands.
I’ve been waiting for this review thank you for putting this out! If you liked the 10sii wait until they drop their new 12” I think that one will shake your socks!
The new intro is pretty slick!
Nice SFX at the lead-in, Chief! (and "excursions" is one of the more ridiculous jargon I've heard that DIDN'T come out of D.C.!)
@@MichelLinschoten do you actually own the monolith 10”?
@@MichelLinschotenTHX? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
What kind of whiskey do you prefer in your coffee?
share a wall with my neighbor but really want to add this sub, any reccomendations to keep this from bleeding through the walls so much?
Got 2, love at first sound !
Love the opening!
I just got a 10s II Speedwoofer. IMHO it doesn’t rival the SVS SB 1000 Pro, which has a deeper and much richer sound. I don’t understand what people like about the speedwoofer. Maybe it’s my system.
Have you done a video with their RSL surround speaker set up?
Digging your new intro Randy!
For my bedroom system, after testing 3 Subs, I went with the Martin Logan Dynamo 400 8 inch. 2 of the other subs had a low level buzz when my system was powered off or low volume listening, I also love the Class D amp in the ML.
Thanks for the review, have a question, would you take the rsl speedwoofer 10 or the Starke sound sw12, I'm can't decide on which one to buy?
Ordered a RSL 10S MK2 and tried it out in my home, with high hopes, due to reviews.
Once I successfully connected the speaker to their “janky” transmitter, I started listening.
The bass seemed low, lacking. I checked my settings and the receiver output.
After a while, I reconnected the budget Polk I was testing and the power was obvious.
I returned the RSL, ($50 return shipping)
I used to install and tube competition car audio, so I have some experience with this.
You sound like you may be just used to the typical car audio "bass hump" - instead of the audiophile type of bass that's more "accurate".....
@@Ezees23 nope, didn’t do SPL competition; we were into sound quality. Not only that, but I paired it with a couple nice bookshelf speakers and a smaller receiver, but it still didn’t keep up.
The best subwoofer integration room response is when it really doesn't call attention to itself.
where is the grill? What does it look like with the grill on?
In the EU the best subwoofer brand is REL. What is your opinion? Can they compete??
REL makes some great subs, but they are generally fairly pricey. Even the HT1003 is roughly 30% more than the RSL 10S and is probably on par in terms of performance, though the REL has a nicer finish.
This is such good news considering SVS is continuing to increase their prices in North America! 🤘😎
What are you using or recommend for a home theater receiver these days?
Been a minute since you mentioned home theater audio. Lol.
Dear owners, when using speaker level inputs, does it apply a HPF to the speakers?
Hey how does it compare to emotiva se8 ?
I want to know too
Could it be you just prefer the greater output of a ported vs a sealed?
It could be. But I have a few subs here
With a sub with this much power. Is it going to blow out my ears. I have a small room, but I will be calibrating it with dirac. I guess what would you recommend for a small room set up?
Rsl10s mkii vs Starke sw12,which of the two is your choice?based on your reviews.thanks for your answer.❤
How would you set the crossover if you don't have the capability on your mains? It looks like the crossover on the back only applies to the input but the outputs are all line level. I'm running out of an apollo x6 and unfortunately there's no capability of running multiple simultaneous outs and setting the crossover in the software?
Nicely done, gents.
You really need to give the Rythmik L12 a test. It's the next step up from the speedwoofer imo. I think it goes for around $650 now.
Rhythmic are often recommended on hi Fi forums. Although not marketed in UK
You have Ron Swanson vibes…… and I love Ron Swanson.
The SVS will still be hundreds of dollars more, but not sure it will be hundreds of dollars more worth of Subwoofer.

Hmm svs pb1000 pro ported or the speedwoofer 12s sealed for movies?
SVS is currently selling the regular SB 1000 for $399. Which would you prefer now? I like clean/quick base, but for me bass isn't necessarily the be all and end all.
