Good you explain to a dummy like myself. I understand how you are breaking it down and explaining each but my brain won’t allow me to understand. Could you just tell me around about where each setting should be. Such as the gain, should I turn it all the way to the right, halfway, or a quarter. Same as the lpf and subsonic. Should I have those turned a quarter, half, or full. I hope I’m asking the question where you can understand.
First sentence, Good you explain, like I said, I’m a dummy, Could you explain

I've been wiring car audio since the late 80s. I think it's about damn time that all amp manufacturers finally start using tactile potentiometers across all amps in increments of 5hz. It would be way easier rather than giving a silly random range and not being able to tell accurately what it's currently at.
You cant really do increments of 5hz on a lpf that goes 30hz to 250hz. Markings every 1/4 turn however would help greatly
I just recently turned down my LPF because with my new build being at 28HZ, I figured the same think and turned it down from 80 or so and I gained. Awesome video.
I wanna learn every detail possible, but I’m always so busy. You help speed the learning curve up a lot. Your doing great man. 👊
Pick up a mecp test book I did that at 15 and was installing professionally at 17
For Low Pass Filter, Noon is actually a really good starting point. I typically do about the same, mathematically speaking... but then I dial back Just a Tiny Bit more just to help Clean & Tighten things up sonically.
Subsonic Filter is the more important guy for a Clean Signal Boost ... Helps your Tuning to really Shine - Just Find that Sweet Spot, Then Set it and Forget It!
Hi Jacob, if you are setting the LPF on the stereo , just try setting the amp to max (200hz). This way one doesnt need to worry if the amp dial (like you did at 12 o clock position) is indeed say a 90hz or something. I do it this way and it sounds good as well as loud, though am not a true SPL person. May be you can test it that way and let everyone know how it works. Thank you for your regular content bro.
I was about to ask that.i have my lpf on the amp to the max @200hz.using my pioneer head unit sub filter to 80hz.sounds very clean. 👍
So on amp max it out and on stereo put what I want it tuned to ?
@@ramonrincon8078yes.. Or vice versa. I have two amps to two different subwoofers and I want each one of them to have different low-pass frequencies so on my head unit I have LPF turned all the way up but at The amp I have them tuned to where I want them to be
You DO NOT set both amp and head unit... home theater, car audio, nothing. If the head unit cuts off at 80hz to the sub at -24db per octave, it then sends the cut off to the amp at -24db and then your amp cuts it off more at whatever -db it has built in.. meaning your doubling the cut off... so now your subwoofer crossover isn't ROLLING off, it's completely DROPPING out compared to the rest of frequencies. There will be no blend with the highs and mids and will cause a gap between them..especially if you're doing the same incorrect method on your highs and mid amp. Pick ONE place to set your crossover and open the crossover completely on the other device.
This technique does not work on pioneer double din head units. You gotta set crossovers to the same frequency on both hu and amps or else its not gonna sound right.
@@akuma4u I have AVH-X300BHS and for my head unit I agree it doesnt work that way .
@@ImVocabsdaddy. ya i dont know why its like that but i made an amazing improvement 2 days ago after years of using pioneer double dead headunits. You need a clarion equalizer and connect that to the pioneer then you can really clean up the sound AND get lower bass. If u r planning or have an eq let me know and i will explain to u what to do.
@@akuma4u what about the pioneer nex series hu? Should one use the lpf on the hu and turn the lpf off on the amp or use both at the same time ?
@@NightmareonAnyStreet_ from what i have noticed. There is no way to turn off the crossover on the amp. U can only either set it to its lowest point which is 35hz or 30hz or set it to max which is usually 250hz. You can turn off the crossover on the hu however. You can fool around and see if you can get the sound to be clear that way or keep the hu crossover on around 63 to 100hz on the subwoofer channel and on the amp, keep the dial around 10 to 11 oclock.
I got a completely different set up now. Still using a pioneer avh double din hu but have added am epicenter and a clarion eq and i run the pioneer hu in network mode for more crossover options and slopes
Remember to not double crossover your speakers, either pass threw on the head unit and use the LPF on the amp, or full range on the amp and use the EQ on the head unit. Shouldn't EQ an EQed signal.
Agreed I came to comments to say the same thing.. glad I searched the comments... id like to hear Jacob's reply to this comment. I got confused when he was doing that double crossover...smh.
This was actually my question. Thanks!
so should i turn off the LPF on my head unit for the subwoofer?
@@KaveMan504 if the amplifier has an LPF setting, yes, unless it is an output that you can switch from either front, rear, or sub out, then just set it to sub out. If it's a dedicated subwoofer out and has a "through" setting, send the full signal to the amplifier, and xover it there.
@@AudioGearhead thanks for the fast reply. it's a pioneer AVH model. It has all those settings.
I use my head units high pass cause my 4ch cut off is to low with no adjustments but I don’t use the low pass on my head unit for my sub amp cause I heard/read the less you use your decks options the less it interferes with a clean signal and doesn’t consume as much current and I don’t use an eq I keep everything on my deck at 0 my sub out as well unless I’m listening to regular music not bass tracks like I normally bump. I’m tuned super low there are days when I want to go for a higher tune or just go sealed for that strong flat response but then I play a 20hz note with authority and I just think to myself what a wonderful blurry world
I'm running my lpf right at 67hz wall tuned to 37hz subsonic right at 27hz gain set clean volume 57 crossover for subwoofer OFF on 2018-2022 pioneer headunit my setup sounds amazing
Thanks a lot JacobViral my settings were all screwed up and had my amp shut off intermittently due to clipping. My sub lpf was set on 40 on my head unit and my amp was set around 80-100hrz and subsonic was at around 30hrz your video helped me understand a lot. Not I can turn my music up without clipping
Glad to help! Thanks for watching and subscribing. Amp settings are crucial.
Isn’t the median between 20 and 200 is 110. So shouldn’t your lpf be set to around 11 o’clock? Or does being 20hz off from the target not make difference? Thanks.
200-20=180, 180/2=90. That's how I did the mat,h maybe I was wrong? you will be fine long as not putting it below 60hz to avoid lower sub freq cutoffs
At 10:15, arent u setting your lpf on that amp on 110hz? 180/2=90 and then Add that to 20. Also, can u set your lpf and hpf using test tones? Lets say youre trying to set your lpf to 80 hz and u play a 81hz test tone to your sub. Then slowly turn your lpf knob until you cant hear the freqeuncy.
Every octave the turn reduces the output not just at the tone so if you start at max and slowly turn down it will start turning down from there and not only at the note you want.
@@JacobViral2 Is there any way to accurately set your lpf and hpf then without an osciloscope? My headunit only has an option to set HPF at 100hz and i want to set my mine to 80.
mistafisz I’m sure most just do it by sight and I do the same no issues. There’s a few devices you can use just all costly.
Good lesson Jacob I learned something.
What is subsonic for
Explained in ruclips.net/video/mfunR30oJHQ/видео.html
So lpf is 30hz and spl is just there the tuning is 25hz and the box is round just set it and forget it cause 100 -50 =50 and if u add that to ur total number of windows minus the total number of door locks ur speaker will work just fine cause it’s hooked up to the flux capacitor in the blinker fluid reservoir half way set to the subsonic as long as u have the iPod in and the head unit off.....”is wat I think was explained”
I need a little guidance on slopes. My amp for subs has a 6 and 12db . My pioneer head unit has crossovers - running off head unit power- rear door 3 way 5.25 coaxials and xover is 6 to 24. Up front, again running off head unit to a 12 db passive crossover and set of components and again 6 to 24 db. The sub xover is 6 to 36bd slope. Sub range is 20hz to 300hz. Both sets of mids/highs are 67hz to 20k or something. Both the components up front and coaxials in back have a 0 or 3db boost feature.
Oh, and the mids and highs are JBL and rated 5-270 w 3 ohm. So my pioneer head unit pushes quiet nicely. Just adding that before someone gives me grief about not having the highs on an amp lol.
So recommendations? On. The front set of components, is 12 db in the passive and 12 on head unit the same as running 24 db slope on rear speakers..? Just clarifying that concept. What really get me is the phase issue and making a "hump" if my slopes are wrong.
I'm wondering the same thing... did u ever get an answer on this?
What yu use for the frequency app so I can set up mine

My L7Q15inch D2 running on a 1200.1 and I have my gain a quarter down from the half way point. Then my LPF knob is set at the 11am to 4pm position and no bass boost and my subsonic is turned a quarter of the way. Does that seem right?
Sub will also mids on 80hz lpf
How does your box sound tuned to 45hz? Does it play down to 28hz? Whats the bandwidth range? How does it sound on music?
It’s a bandpass 4th order so it does well between 28hz up to 55ish hz but loudest near tuning. It does great for music but high peak.
Do your soundqubed amp ever gets hot?

I have a question abt my speakers and LPF. The speakers I have hooked up to my amp in my car which Is a box of 2 8's and 2 horn tweeters have been hooked up in my room with a home audio system playing all frequencys and higher notes hearing the full song. Now that it's in my car hooked up to a amp with only lpf adjustment it's only playing bass and low frequencys. I turned the lpf off because ik that's what will keep the higher frequency from playing but it still don't have all the music to it like it did. But after watching this video I think my head unit is set real low for lpf and that might be blocking everything but if someone could please explain? Thankyou
If my sub and amp are not directly wired to my head unit,(it’s wired to my rear speakers instead) is it a good idea to use lpf setting ? I’m a beginner so I have no idea. Lol thanks
If it’s a class d sub monoblock amp then it’s made for subs only, If class ab 2/4 channel then yes lpf more needed.

Thanx man I’ll try it and how about trying out a line driver like the audio control overdrive what’s your thoughts? Cuz in my system now my amps seem twice as powerful....really
Never used one or know how. Always worked fine without personally.
Hey Jack line drivers can be very beneficial I been using them since 2007. Line drivers are suppose to be used to drive a stronger preout voltage to your amps if the headunit has low preout voltage. Always buy a headunit with 4 volts or better on preout voltage and another thing make sure your amp can handle that high of voltage on the RCA inputs. Some amps are sensitive to high preout voltage.
Also u don't have to buy a audio control line driver. They are quite expensive but now a days there are many brands and types. For instance they have 3 way crossovers now for trunk mounting with built in line drivers and they also have dash mounted line drivers 👍. I'd go with a Clarion or Cadence for the money but if u don't like audio control makes great equipment if u wanna spend that much.
Also Jack one other thing I didn't mention is u have to be careful with setting the level on line drivers u can get distortion in your system if improperly set.
Walter Brown Ya just what I was thinking and since alot of cheap head units only put out 2volts it’s nice to have that extra juice for adjustability for example my Orion xtr amps take up to 8volts

I would tune it by ear, they will tell you when clipping occurs
Ears never lie, audible clipping always stands out
Multimeter is good only if you know the proper way to do it. Although tuning by ear isn’t bad if your really know what to listen for.
I've tuned it by ear a few days back and it really makes a world of difference. I'm sure a multimeter might be more effective on an aftermarket head unit. But for my stock head unit I think by ear is the way to go
Saleem Hoosen multimeter works equally well on an aftermarket headunit and a stock one.

Hey Jack u should look up your speakers spec and look at the frequency response. That will give u a starting point of reference in setting your HPF. I generally set my HPF from 90-150hz depending on what the speakers frequency response.
Hpf is not for subs. So if ur amp on ur sub has one as well you pretty much switch it off. Hpf is for mid and high door speakers. The higher you set the hpf the easier it’ll be on ur speakers but you’ll get sharper and sharper. The lower you go the warmer it’ll get but depending on your speakers they won’t be able to handle the lower notes and it’ll become distorted. Distortion is a lot easier to hear on highs and mids.
That was great. Now do I need to fool with this bass boost knob?
Keep bass boost off for cleanest signal

Constantly reminding us about the poor presentation is unnecessary. You just need to mention it once, half your videos are you apologizing for how “non-professional” everything looks. Honestly I wouldn’t have even looked at it twice and had any negative judgement, but you are constantly reminding us that it looks rough and cluttered. It’s the only thing that stands out in my mind of your videos. “Oh it’s that channel where all the guy does is apologize for the unprofessional look of everything.” It’s extremely obnoxious.
The information is actually very good
and informative. Your speech pattern is
also very good, and voice pacing is
pleasant to follow. Lots of potential
here. My suggestion would be to just comment on how “this is a work in progress and what your seeing is not the final product”. Mine looks very similar but people don’t notice then rough look they just comment on the material because I don’t call attention to
it. Don’t apologize to the audience. Make them apologize to you.

Would half way 30hz?
10+50=60
60/2= 30hz
@@FinsleysCustomCarAudio yes. I recommend getting dsp for proper EQ
@@iSCOPEXZatec thank you for the quick reply
Good info
The inside of that car looks like new construction 😳
It's been gutted for the system only lol, checkout my newer videos and you'll see update. Thanks for watching my daily videos!

How do you set your subsonic with a dmm or without?
Set it around 2hz lower than ur box tuning
Actually this is how you do it. Say your box is tuned at 35hz just for example. Now do 35x.25 and then subtract that from 35 hz and that is the perfect pint for your subsonic 👍
@@jacbybentril7114 I’m tuned to 34hz that means I’ll be set the subsonic to 25hz👀
What app are you using to read the frequency?
Ssa studio app with a dB Meter: xplicitaudio.com/product-category/installation/tools/?ref=3229
In what order do you set amp controls? I have the skar rp1200.1 on 2 12" alpine type s wired down to 1 ohm. What would I set my controls to? Can you help, thank you for your time
LPF 80hz, subsonic 25-27hz(depending on your tuning of port could be higher), boost off, gain match head unit rca voltage.
@@JacobViral2 thank you for the input I really do appreciate it
@@JacobViral2 LPF, subsonic, gain in that order? Can I use the 40 hz text tone to set amp?
@@drewcarr4478 lpf and subsonic first yes and yea a lot set gain with 40hz
THank you JACOB!!!!
I have a 2way cross over in line before my sub amp. Right now I have the amp crossover down on the amp and on my headunit the LPF is set at 80hz, my crossover LPF is somewhere around 80hz. Is this setting okay.
Yep
Either use one or the other bro. I generally use my amps crossover and set the headunit to pass or through. If I have a inline crossover I set the crossover and amp Lpf to match.
@@walterbrown4608 Ok thanks bro

Subsonic set to 60 or 70 hz? You mean lpf right? That confused the hell outta me lol
Correct
Ok ...I just have to ask...whats going on with your vehicle? Lol
See more recent videos to upload understand ;)
My subwoofers box is tune to 33hz so I guess I will do my amp at 66?
lpf is for to cut higher hz off that ur system dont play well or u dont want them to be played
So what would hw see it at? Or does he need to play the music and see what doesnt okay well n then set it
@@richardwilson5944 personally i adjust lpf to 50-55hz cos i know i never listen that high songs. from head unit always settings set to flat.
how do i know what my sub box tune hz would be ? i just bought a kicker compvx 12 and need a box so how would i be able to find out the hz tune on the box?
Have you noticed that all the videos on something simple like AMP Low Pass Filter become too complex for the person posting the video to explain. They're so immersed in their tech nomenclature that they can no longer communicate the simplest idea. Just how do you use the LPF? They can't do it, they end up drowning in their own word play. "Okay on the LPF setting you want to get out your volt meter and it depends on if you have a 1 to 1 or a 3 to 5 or 5 to 8 band pass box ratio and then you measure your frequency so get out your oscilloscope." shut up shut up shut up I should've known not to ask a guy whose stereo is so complex the seats and motor had to be removed to make room for one of the amps.
Nothing wrong with learning the things we do not know 🙃
You have your LPF set to 110 not 90.
Thanks
can't stand that HU beep.
Someone told me to have it all the way on

All LPF is is setting a crossover at that specific frequency. Amplifiers usually contain a 12DB/octave slope, don’t overthink it. If you want your sub to stop playing music around 60hz, cool. Set it to 60. Just because a crossover is set to 60 doesn’t mean the speaker rolls off at 60, the slope usually starts before the desired frequency. Most set it at 80 because that’s where midbass is supposed to pick up. There is never a “correct” way to set it, mine is set to 55 in mine because my midbass picks up at 55hz and is confirmed through an RTA.
All in all, there’s never a correct way. Just need to find where the subwoofer either stops playing at in a ported/band pass box or where you want it to stop.
Thanks makes sense
Setting LPF to where midbass/mids kick in or are crossed over is one way to do it
the other way is to set mono amp gain first, turn volume to max listening volume then turn LPF up until you start hearing mids come thru the sub or when it starts sounding muddy.
I opt for the 2nd way to set my LPF so i can get the most clean frequencies as possible out of my sub.
What RTA hardware / software do you use please?
@A. Melbs mono gain: your subwoofer amp gain. Yes it helps to unplug your mid amd high speakers when doing this and leave only subwoofer plugged in so you can hear just whats coming out of the subwoofer.
@A. Melbs pls tell me what model head unit u have and what model subwoofer/mono amp you have
hey i bought an amp avatar 1000.1D and subwoofer 2x 12 inch i wonder how i can play 30 hz songs is it lpf i will change to play lower hz songs?`ty

@@JacobViral2 thank you will try that :D have a good day sir :D
I had my new system sounding great when I first hooked it up. Then I went into the deck settings and messed it all up! I’m sure this will help me get it back to sounding great. Thanks
Same but the pawnshop messed mine up
You can tune lpf and hpf with a multimeter. I just watched a video here on RUclips. The guy played the Hz freq through the head unit then watched AC voltage from the + & - speaker terminals on the amp and stopped adjusting when the voltage dropped off
What video was that, can you put a link on
@@tyronearendse1722 if I come across it again, I will. I don't have it on hand. But try searching on RUclips "tuning car amplifier with multimeter" and you'll get some relevant videos I'm sure
